“Sponsoring the walk is a way to give back to the LRA and also a way to support our patients and their families who are living with lupus,” he continued. “It is also a way for us to demonstrate the concept of Leadership By All, where every member of the HSS family is a leader, regardless of our role. By participating in this event, we demonstrated that we are leaders of our field, and that we are leaders for our patients, their families and the entire lupus community.”

During my visits at HSS I was assisted by Mrs. Lady Perez, whom I have come to see as my guardian angel at HSS. Dr. Cammisa has operated on both my lumbar spine & cervical spine with successful outcomes. In Panama, there’s a saying: “First God and then Dr. Cammisa!” I am most grateful for his care and outstanding professionalism, and also the dedication of all of the wonderful staff at HSS. Today I’m able to enjoy my grandchildren and family with a better quality of life.

New Medical Staff Carlo Milani, MD, MBA Carlo Milani, MD, MBA, is an Assistant Attending Physiatrist at HSS seeing patients at the Integrative Care Center (ICC), as well as on the main campus. His clinical practice focuses on non-operative treatment of acute sports injuries, musculoskeletal conditions and spine disorders. After earning his medical degree from Tulane University School of Medicine, Dr. Milani completed his residency in physical medicine & rehabilitation at the University of Washington in Seattle. He is fellowship trained in spine and sports medicine, which he completed here at HSS. Dr. Milani’s approach as a physiatrist is to work with patients to optimize function, return to an active lifestyle, help prevent future injury and improve quality of life. The fundamental components of his care include individualized education and guidance with a specific physical therapy prescription and/or personalized exercise plan. Dr. Milani is skilled in fluoroscopically-guided injections and ultrasound-guided injections, including PRP and hyaluronic acid.

We’ve all heard that sitting for long periods of time has a negative effect on your body so we’re going to help you break up time spent in sedentary postures and minimize overuse injuries. We suggest trying the following stretches/exercises. IMPORTANT: If you have any pain while performing the exercise stop immediately! Before starting any stretch program, please consult with your physician or contact the Body Mechanics Team. Safety first!
