YOUR LEGACY The Wilson Society

No other institution in the world has the expertise and experience to transform the future of musculoskeletal care like we do. Our team of specialists is committed to ensuring that every patient – at every stage of life – has the opportunity to live life to the fullest. When you make HSS part of your legacy, you are providing vital support for our experts who not only treat the world’s most complex orthopedic and rheumatic cases every day, but also develop medical breakthroughs that allow countless patients to enjoy active, pain-free lives.

Our founders, a group of passionate and concerned citizens, sought to bring life-changing care to children and adults who were struggling to overcome orthopedic disorders without access to proper treatment. They were dedicated to excellence in patient care, research, and education from the day the doors of the Hospital opened with 28 beds on Second Avenue and 6th Street. This commitment to excellence continues to drive the Hospital’s mission and vision today, and personalized, compassionate care remains the hallmark of our vision and work.

The Wilson Society Since 1998, The Wilson Society has acknowledged the generosity of all who have embraced this legacy and have included Hospital for Special Surgery in their estate plans. The Society was named for Dr. Philip D. Wilson, Jr., and his father, Dr. Philip D. Wilson, Sr., both of whom served as Surgeon-in-Chief. Their leadership helped transform Special Surgery into America’s leading specialty hospital devoted to orthopedics and rheumatology. Wilson Society members help HSS to continue their tradition of compassionate, unparalleled medical care.

Bequests For many supporters, a charitable bequest is the easiest way to make Special Surgery part of their legacy. A bequest to HSS, regardless of amount, is entirely free from federal estate taxes. You may leave any asset including a cash gift, securities or real property. Most bequests to HSS are either unrestricted, allowing us to use the assets in the most beneficial way, or restricted, allowing you to specify how your gift is to be used. Please call our office to discuss a restricted bequest. Bequests can be made in honor or in memory of a physician, nurse, or loved one who has made your experience at HSS particularly meaningful. Below is suggested language, including the Hospital’s tax identification number. Unrestricted Gifts: I give, devise and bequeath to Hospital for Special Surgery Fund, Inc., located at 535 East 70th Street, New York, NY 10021 and with the federal tax identification number of 136714749, (a) the sum of $______, or (b) ______% of my residuary estate as an unrestricted gift to be used for its general purposes. Restricted Gifts: I give, devise and bequeath to Hospital for Special Surgery, located at 535 East 70th Street, New York, NY 10021 and with federal tax identification number 13-1624135, (a) the sum of $______, or (b) ______% of my residuary estate. It is my preference that this bequest be used for the purpose(s) of ____________, or similar projects that may need financial assistance at the time my bequest is received.
