Orthopaedic Education Exchange HSS-China Orthopaedic Education Exchange The Hospital for Special Surgery (HSS)–China Orthopaedic Education Exchange provides a unique opportunity for Chinese orthopaedic surgeons and trainees to gain valuable knowledge and experience through professional education programs. Structured observation programs at HSS, participation in educational programs through live video conferencing along with attendance at annual symposia held in China are several offerings of the Exchange. Qualified applicants from medical centers throughout China are encouraged to apply to the Junior Faculty Observation Program.

Junior Faculty Observation Program Program Highlights

� Observation in the operating room and outpatient clinic � Daily schedule based on observation preferences � Observation of morning rounds with HSS attending surgeons � Observation of patient flow and perioperative services � Attendance at weekly educational conferences � Access to the HSS medical library system

Available Services for Observation � Adult Reconstruction and Joint Replacement � Spine � Foot and Ankle � Sports Medicine � Anesthesiology � Rehabilitation

Applicant Criteria � High level of English proficiency � Demonstrated leadership potential � At least 10 years of medical training

Application Process Step 1: All candidates must submit an online application (found at hss.edu/hss-china-exchange) with the following supporting documents: � Medical school diploma � CV � Two personal statements � Two recommendation letters on official letterhead with signatures � Digital photo (passport size: 2″x2″) Step 2: Selected applicants will be granted an interview prior to acceptance into the program. Step 3: Upon complete review of the application, successful candidates will be extended an invitation into the program along with additional information for registration and health clearance.

The entire selection process takes approximately three months from date of submission. Program start dates for accepted candidates are based upon availability and may last from two weeks to two months depending on the service. Please note that there is a $500 fee upon acceptance into the program.

Research Fellowship Program Chinese orthopaedic surgeons interested in conducting research at HSS can apply for a 1-2 year research fellowship with HSS Faculty in a specific service. Applications for this program can be found at hss.edu/ hss-china-exchange. Please note that all applicants are responsible for contacting HSS faculty to inquire about research collaboration before submitting an application. Applications must be submitted six months prior to the preferred start date.

HSS eAcademy is a web-based platform for distribution of education and academic programs through live streaming as well as offerings on demand.

Featured Online CME Symposia The field of musculoskeletal medicine is highly dynamic and rapidly changing. These modules are designed to help orthopaedic professionals remain informed of current issues affecting musculoskeletal medicine.

Orthopaedic Surgical Videos These videos demonstrate current concepts in surgical treatment and provide relevant instructional content. Topics include: � Arthroscopic Femoral Acetabular Impingement Surgery

HSS-China Club All alumni of the Junior Faculty Observation Program and the Research Fellowship Program will gain lasting membership within the HSS community. Annual Symposia HSS faculty members participate in symposia held at the annual Chinese Orthopaedic Association (COA) meeting and the annual Chinese Association of Orthopaedic Surgeons (CAOS) Meeting.
