Here’s a Record You Can Move to Visit Oxford Partners with Ole Miss SAA to bring one of Double Decker’s best music lineups yet
O
By Randall Haley
le Miss students Bradley Baker and Brady Ruffin stepped into the office of Visit Oxford last fall with an idea. The two members of the Ole Miss Student Activities Association (SAA) weren’t interested in hosting their annual Spring Concert in the Grove, despite the big names – Nelly, Thomas Rhett, Travis Porter – they’ve attracted over the years. “Bradley Baker and Brady Ruffin came to us at Visit Oxford,” said Lee Ann Stubbs, coordinator of the Double Decker Arts Festival. “They wanted to talk about a partnership and were interested in sponsoring the headlining band.” The SAA Spring Concerts were always scheduled to take place on the Sunday of Double Decker weekend. But a desire to build a stronger relationship between
the Oxford community and the Ole Miss students led SAA members to take their chances in bringing Oxford’s biggest events of the year together. “There is already such an incredible relationship between the City of Oxford and the University of Mississippi,” Ruffin said. “We thought this partnership with Visit Oxford and the Double Decker Festival would be another great way to strengthen that bond.” The SAA was able to sponsor the headlining band for the 23rd Double Decker Arts Festival, and this year’s music lineup has been all the rage ever since its unveiling in February. Because SAA sponsored the headlining band, Cold War Kids, in full, Visit Oxford’s music budget had a little bit further to reach for the following band on the lineup. Visit hottytoddy.com for news, arts, sports and fun! | 9
“They had never been to Oxford before,” Stubbs said. “I think that’s kind of how we attracted them. They were excited to play, so Oxford’s a good place. When bands start researching Oxford, they get excited about it. It’s something different they haven’t done before.” Stubbs is also excited to finally have Houndmouth perform at Double Decker. Visit Oxford staff has talked about bringing Houndmouth to perform at Double Decker for years, and this year, those hopes became a reality.
“I’m really excited about all of the bands,” Stubbs said. “The whole community is excited about this lineup, especially just being a well diverse lineup from beginning to end. We wanted the lineup to attract everybody. We don’t want to just cater to students, or just middle-aged. We want everybody, and this lineup does that.” Neither the SAA nor Visit Oxford staff were sure Cold War Kids would fit a small Oxford town into their schedule, but Stubbs said they were as ecstatic as all of Oxford was to have them headlining the music. As it just so happened to fit their time frame, Cold War Kids accepted the offer.

“It just has never worked out for us,” Stubbs said, “with their routing and getting it together, but this year, it did and we’re so excited. They’re supposed to be having a new record release in the next few months, and they have got a great following.” This year will also boast country band Whitey Morgan and the 78’s as well as a New Orleans funk and soul group who’s expected to have the crowd hip hop and boppin’ all over the Square – Tank and the Bangas. A partnership with SAA, however, wasn’t solely focused on a bigger, better music lineup. Every aspect of the biggest festival around is of utmost importance for both the SAA and Visit Oxford. “It was a good way to tie in the students coming to Double Decker and being more involved in the festival,” Stubbs said. “They are helping us as volunteers this year, so you’ll see SAA students all over
the festival throughout the weekend. They’ll be backstage, in the kids areas, at the merchandise tents … So we’ve got them really helping us. This partnership is great, and we’ve enjoyed working with them.” It’s to no surprise the Double Decker Arts Festival is bigger with each passing year. And when that Saturday finally arrives, Stubbs is usually the first one to the Oxford Square at 4 a.m. She walks around at looks at each of the art vendors that she was responsible for placing. She admires what each vendor will be selling as the day grows busy. “I like to go around to see all the vendors because I placed them,” she said.
“I emailed them. I talked to them. So I want to see what they have before the crowd comes.” But even that rewarding feeling of seeing the art vendors that have taken most of her time in planning this year’s festival doesn’t compare to one special moment later in the day. After what little bit of downtime she’s had to spend with her family, she goes behind the stage. “At the end of the day, we can kind of look up from behind the stage and see all the people out in the crowd,” she said. “And that’s when you realize … We did this. These people are here because we did this.”

How Much Pizza Is Too Much Pizza?
Is there such a thing as an excess of pizza? Here’s what some of Oxford’s leading pie makers have to say. By Randall Haley
W
ith at least 15 restaurants now serving delicious pizza—from newcomers like Southern Craft Stove + Tap to mainstays like Old Venice and Proud Larry’s—we decided to ask around and find out if Oxford has enough pizza lovers to pay for all that pepperoni and sausage. How much pizza, we wondered, is too much pizza? Is there even such a thing? Ask Jim Bulian, owner of Old Venice Pizza Co. on the Square, if Oxford has too many pizzerias, and he'll tell you absolutely not. "First of all, there's no such thing as too much pizza. Pizza lovers abound. They're everywhere," Bulian said. "Oxford’s always growing, so I feel there’s always room for a new pizza place." Mandy and Donnie McCord, owners of 6 N Tubbs on West Oxford Loop, don't feel threatened by new pizzerias either. "Yeah, there's a lot of pizza places," Mandy said, "but every pizza place in Oxford offers something different." Donnie agreed, adding, "We cook it traditional style, the New York style. We don't use a conveyor oven like most places use." While great-tasting food is the key factor to success, location is just as important. the Indianola-headquartered Lost Pizza Co. chain, looked to bring his restaurant to Oxford for years, but couldn't decide just where to open it. "None of [the locations] felt right for us, not to mention all of the really good pizza options already on and near the Square," Roberts said. "Then we looked at the 800 Park location on College Hill Road. This location was perfect for Lost Pizza Co. There are a ton of houses out on this side of town with lots of people who may not want to go into the busy parts of town to eat." While some pizzeria owners think Oxford has plenty of pizza lovers, they don't wish to see more pizza shops open anytime soon. “The pie is only so big,” noted Proud Larry's co-owner Scott Caradine. "You don't want to keep slicing it up forever." Caradine doesn't feel threatened by the newest pizzerias, however, since Proud Larry's, located on the Square, has plenty of other menu items to boast about. He takes it as a challenge. "I think competition makes people better," he said. "Competition kind of helps people step up their game. We feel like our pizza stands for itself."
WHAT TO EAT
Alena Tikhova, owner of Dodo Pizza, a delivery/carryout operation on West Jackson Ave., said the pizza market is definitely becoming more competitive in Oxford. "I wouldn't put my money into a dine-in pizza place in Oxford these days, simply because the market is moving toward its saturation point," Tikhova said. "Managing deliveries in the right way is a lot more complicated than managing just a dine-in, but it pays off because not so many places could be really good at delivering pizzas." David Campanella, general manager of Soulshine Pizza Factory on the Square, said he, too, would hesitate to open another pizzeria in Oxford. But he thinks the ones in place now will do just fine. "Usually the first people to the marketplace are the ones who kind of maintain and stay," he said. Speaking of first to the marketplace, Jeff Whiteaker, co-owner of Pizza Den (founded in 1966) on Heritage Drive, said he's learned a thing or two about the keys to success. "For us, [pizza lovers] may go somewhere and try something, but they always come on back," Whiteaker said. "We put out the same thing we've been putting out. Things have to taste the same as the last time you ate them."

WHAT TO EAT
Just Plain Folks
These four down-home Oxford eateries offer amazing southern-style, stick-to-your ribs comfort food. By Rick Hynum
Ajax Diner
118 COURTHOUSE SQUARE, OXFORD, MS (662) 232-8880
Sing along with us: “Nothing could be finer than to eat at Ajax Diner in the mooorning.” Unfortunately, Ajax doesn’t serve breakfast—owner Randy Yates is not exactly a morning person, we hear—so you’ll have to wait until lunchtime to dig into his famous meat loaf, butterbeans, fried okra and chicken dumplings. The portions are, shall we say, ample—you would have to be some of kind of gluttonous behemoth to go away hungry—and the servers love their jobs, even when they’re slammed, which is pretty much every lunch shift. Start dinner off with the Purple Hull Pea Catfish Cakes, then move on to the Hot Tamale Pie or the Buffalo Porterhouse Pork Chop. Or all of the above if you’re a gluttonous behemoth.
Gus's
306 S. LAMAR BLVD. • (662) 638-3420
If fried chicken is your weakness, Gus’s will bring you to your knees and make you beg for mercy. These folks know what they’re good at, and that’s what they focus on—dark meat, white meat, legs and thighs and wings, all hormone-free and fried in peanut oil like God intended. Looking for duck confit or pheasant under glass? You won’t find those fancy, high-falutin’ birds here. This is strictly a barnyard fowl kind of joint. Throw in a side order of potato salad, some baked beans and a sweet potato pie for dessert, and you’ve got yourself all you need for a picnic in Avent Park.

WHAT TO EAT
The Beacon
1200 N. LAMAR BLVD, OXFORD, MS (662) 234-5041
Mama Jo's Country Cookin
Don’t bother trying to find The Beacon’s menu online. Defiantly unhip and proud of it, Tony Mize’s family-owned business, the oldest restaurant in town, has no web presence to speak of, but they don’t need no stinkin’ Facebook page. Not with those juicy, greasy, chin-dribbling, oh-my-godthey’re-good burgers and blue-plate specials like the gravy-laden Big Bubba hamburger steak and the catfish and hushpuppies. And unlike Ajax Diner, The Beacon is all about the morning repast: They’ll whip up a full stack of pancakes or a big slab of country ham with red-eyed gravy for your breakfast. And the waitresses will call you “honey.” Trust us, that’s not for show. It’s a lifelong habit.
1503 OLD HWY 7 N. OXFORD, MS • (662) 513-0235 From pig’s feet to smothered pork chops, Joester “Mama Jo” Brassell, Oxford’s reigning queen of soul food, knows pretty much everything you can do with pig meat. She’ll use it to season her turnip greens or boil up the innards for chitlins (that’s chitterlings for you snooty types). The down-home buffet runs the gamut from fried catfish and candied yams to boiled okra and Rotel chicken. It’s so good that Andrew Zimmern, host of the Travel Channel’s “Bizarre Foods,” paid her a visit in 2012 and later tweeted that her smothered pork chops and neck bones were “epic” and her sides were “even better.” Mama Jo says many of her dishes come to her in visions from God, and we believe her. They taste like heaven to us.

Booking a Stay with Kay Having years of experience in the realty business, Kay Hightower knows a thing or two about the value of a rental property. More importantly, she knows the value of a happy client. By Savannah Woods
S
pring is in the air, and Oxford is blooming with tourism. Baseball season is in full swing, the highlyanticipated Double Decker Arts Festival will soon hit the streets of the Oxford Square and some will walk across the University of Mississippi Grove for the last time as an Ole Miss student as they take part in commencement weekend.
As these big weekends approach, Hightower said her weekends rentals are in the ideal locations. “We have several properties available for big weekends, like graduation,” Hightower said. “All of them are close to the Square and campus, about a mile or less.”
While Oxford welcomes in the crowd, the local hotels and Airbnbs are bursting at the seams. Kay Hightower, local realtor of three years in Oxford, has a unique business with offers that differ from any typical lodging options.
Hightower’s properties are conveniently located allowing guests to park with ease within walking distance of almost anywhere. But aside from location, Hightower’s guests stay at the top of her priority list, and she strives to offer the best experience possible when one rents from her.
Since 2007, Hightower has created a weekend rental business with a plethora of quaint, cozy Oxford staple properties. Guests of Kay Hightower’s properties can pick their style — town homes, condos, duplexes and stand-alone homes, depending on the price and size.
“When you do business with me, you know what you're getting,” Hightower said. “I am credited by the Better Business Bureau with an A+ rating. I am a wellknown person around Oxford, and my properties have a reputation for their excellent quality.”

WHERE TO STAY When booking a stay with Kay Hightower, her properties have anything one could possibly need, and more. With fully functional kitchen and laundry facilities, there’s more space than any hotel can offer — some properties have large yards and even extra entertainment space for social gatherings. “I put my main focus on my clients when they rent from me,” Hightower said. “I want everyone to have enough space and be pleased with the property they choose. I meet them at the house to check-in and get them accommodated, then I am on-call and available 24/7 if my renters are in need of my assistance.”
Lexington Pointe is located just off Jackson Avenue, minutes from campus and walking distance from dining, shopping and entertainment. Our community offers spacious 1, 2, & 3 bedrooms with flexible lease terms from 6 to 13 months, in addition to awesome amenities such as outdoor kitchen area, sparkling pool, tanning salon, tennis courts, and much more. Cable & internet are included!
These properties provide all of the materials one will need, from kitchen equipment to soap and clean linens. Hightower believes her weekend rentals are all about the experience, and that’s why she creates an environment to leave a lasting impact for her renters and ensures they have a great visit to her beloved town. “Through the weekend rentals, I love the variety of people I get to meet,” Hightower said. “I have made some long lasting friendships and regular renters through my business. When my clients leave my properties, I hope that they had an excellent time and that they leave knowing they have a new friend in me.”

THINGS TO DO
Let the Good Times
Roll By Adam Brown
W
hen one thinks Malco, one thinks movies. But screenplay isn’t always the main attraction at the Malco located at the Oxford Commons. Any given Monday or Tuesday night, one can hear the competition escalate next door. League bowlers are battling it out on the alleys of Premiere Lanes. Experience Oxford’s Adam Brown met with Selby LaBarre, general manager of Premier Lanes, to learn more about Oxford’s intense game of league bowling.

THINGS TO DO EO: How many bowling leagues and teams compete at Premier Lanes? SL: Currently we have two leagues, one on Monday and one on Tuesday. Monday has 10 teams, and Tuesday has 13 teams. We will have a summer league that will begin in late May/early June that will run 10 weeks. Last year, we had 10-12 teams. A lot of our sanctioned bowlers only bowl during USBC sanctioned leagues, so they do not participate. EO: How long does a sanctioned bowling league typically last? SL: The fall/spring leagues are USBC sanctioned leagues and the summer league is a fun league, which just allows our bowlers to keep up with their practice and offer competition year-round. Both sanctioned leagues begin in the fall and end in the spring. Monday night league is a 30-week league, Tuesday is a 28-week league. EO: How many league bowlers have scored perfect games at Premiere Lanes? SL: Currently, during league play, we have only ever had one perfect 300 bowled. The bowler that completed it is named Zach Cobb. He has been a league bowler with us since we first started offering leagues in May 2015. We have had a few perfect games outside of league, during open bowling, maybe two. EO: Are there any bowling specials, and are these limited to league bowlers only? SL: By offering so many different activities, we definitely have something for everyone. We have different specials available throughout the week. Our most popular special is $2 Tuesdays and Thursdays. We offer $2 games and $2 shoe rentals on those days. We just started
a new promotion on Sundays called Super Sunday. For children, we offer three free games of bowling with purchase of shoe rental, adults are able to purchase games for $3 each, and shoe rentals are $3 each, as well. Also on Sundays, we have arcade specials, where you purchase two $10 arcade play cards and receive a third $10 card free. EO: What makes Premier’s bowling lanes unique? SL: The main thing that sets us aside from other bowling centers is that we are not simply a bowling alley. We are a Family Entertainment Center. In addition to bowling, we offer a full service cafe, full service bar, an arcade with over 40 games where you can win tickets to redeem for prizes. We also have a VIP bowling section. The VIP has lowered lights and fewer lanes, so you feel a little more private. You are in a different room than the main bowling lanes, as well. On top of that, we have projectors and screens over the lanes, so that you can watch whatever televised event is currently airing. The VIP also has its own bar that we use for large group rentals, etc. On top of all of that, our bowling equipment is state-of-the-art. We have the latest and greatest bowling technology available, including touchscreen control panels that will allow you to customize your game, take your picture for display and use in some mini-games, and several other mini-games that are fun for everyone. There you have it. Whether you want to show these competitors what you’ve got as a league bowler or keep it laid back with a fun night of bowling with your best friends, memories are waiting to be made at Oxford’s Premier Lanes inside the Malco Oxford Commons Cinema. FROM LA TO MB:
Miss Behavin Is Bringing LA Grunge to Oxford This Spring By Talbert Toole
E
very spring, Miss Behavin revamps its well-known storefront window. As spring sets in, clothing store staff sets their eyes on a new theme. This year’s window infuses grunge and the style that floods the streets of Los Angeles. Owner Ivy Jackson, along with store managers Jasmine Gerald and Abby Rigsby, travels to market in LA every year to draw inspiration and purchases new merchandise to add to Oxford’s fashion trends.
Jackson and the managers then scope out what their fellow coworkers believe are the newest styles and trends in fashion and bring that back to the clothing racks of Miss Behavin. This allows for a larger range of style throughout the store. “We try to throw a spin on it, too, so people get stuff that they don’t know they want,” Gerald said. Gerald said this year, the window display will incorporate black chain-link fences and neon signs featuring Miss Behavin’s logo and phrases such as “Good Vibes Only.”
With each new season of spring, Miss Behavin’s window display embodies those LA styles and trends. Last year, the store’s front window was filled top to bottom with flowers. This year’s inspiration came from the ’90s vibe flooding the style scene, especially on the streets of LA.
The mannequins placed in the storefront window will be decked out in streetwear, which is a far cry from last year’s flower power aesthetic, Gerald said. The incorporation of chain-link fences and neon signs will also fill the walls and decor of the store’s interior.
“It is a lot of work but a lot of fun,” Gerald said. “We make our [sales associates] tell us what they want to see more of at the store and what their styles are.”
Miss Behavin pushes the boundaries of fashion and trends by the staff’s willingness to break rules as their slogan says, “Make Rules. Break Rules. Fashion Rules.”

WHERE TO SHOP With a mixture of styles and trends, anyone can shop at Miss Behavin, Gerald said. The store has a versatile ability that offers anything from graphic t-shirts to frilly skirts. “Not everything has to match but everything flows,” Gerald said. “We try to make it easy for everyone to come in here and shop and find something that will work for them.” Miss Behavin will also have a sidewalk sale on a variety of clothing, such as skirts and dresses, during Double Decker festivities. It will be an all-cash exclusive with items ranging from $1 to $10.
The store has also reduced prices throughout the store, which has led to a rise in sales and customer satisfaction, Gerald said. For someone who has been to Miss Behavin, the store strives on having the best customer service, Gerald said. “We try to make it as personable as possible and make sure everyone has the best experience they can here,” Gerald said. “We want them to leave here feeling like, ‘I love that store. I want my daughter to come here and buy everything she can from here because they are good people.’” Miss Behavin has been in operation since 2003 and continues to bring the best styles and trends of the LA streets to the Oxford Square.

More than Just Feed & Fertilizer How Oxford's Barn Trading Co. Can Tackle Any Springtime Demand
By Callie Daniels Bryant
B
right yellow and white daffodils heralded spring’s return to Oxford. Time to gather dead branches and enliven the bare ground with new flowers. The Barn Trading Company on West Oxford Loop is ready to help Oxonians carry out their annual mission: make their homes bright and green again. “We have annuals, perennials and tree shrubs,” said Turner Barnes, owner of The Barn. “My favorite kinds of flowers are annuals that people put in their pots along with impatiens and potato vines.” Glistening vases of all sizes and colors, from grass green to cerulean, line the front porch of the store. Once inside, the sight is cozy and plentiful. There is a stand of bulbs – from tulips to lilies – being sold at half price, a display of succulents in all sizes and shapes, and the largest selection of trees to be found in Lafayette County. Unsurprisingly, this store was voted Oxford’s Best Garden Center. 48 | Sign up for Daily Headlines from hottytoddy.com
Now that you know The Barn has a lot more than plants and fertilizer. Step inside and see their plant containers that are just as bright as the flowers, the feed for all types of birds and small critters (including hot nut bars to discourage unwanted animals) and feed for livestock. Want to create or restock a pond? The Barn provides fish for that. Turner Barnes got into the business of selling plants, fertilizer, animal feed and – you name it – for Oxonians’ homes and yards as the city rapidly expanded. “Oxford was growing so fast eight or nine years ago, and they needed a good garden center,” Barnes said. “We put a plan together, and we made it work. We like to keep product lines that compete with big box stores. We try to get unique stuff that will drive and help our customers.” Barnes loves seeing the flowers throughout the city and university campus, as the landscapers keep busy year round. To keep up, Barnes’ store is ready to tackle the demand, especially during springtime planting.
WHERE TO SHOP “The busiest time of the year is the end of March through July, and then October through December,” Barnes said. “We have a good fall season as well with pumpkins and then Christmas trees.” Barnes said preparing for spring time takes him around six weeks as he works at the store every day to get the greenhouse in shape and fill out orders for more flowers. “There are new varieties of plants every year, and we have to stay on top of our game,” Barnes said. “We have the core plants that people order every year, but we have to change it up so we can have new products.” The store offers seeds and bulbs along with potting soil and fertilizers to help with lacking soil, encouraging colorful growth or simply maintaining a lush garden.
Barnes goes to conferences and plant shows each year to provide new and trendy products. Recently, he went to Las Vegas for new chemical products to use for yard control, from weeds to ants and pests. With extensive knowledge and willingness to keep with the trends, Barnes welcomes everyone, especially those without a green thumb, to his store. “Come see us,” he said. “We’ll walk you through the process and help you be the best gardener you can be. That’s what we’re here for: to help, not just to sell. We want to make sure what you want is going to last. For example, some people plant in full shade and then don’t understand why their flowers aren’t blooming. Well, just come here, and we’ll help you out.”

Faith as Small as a
Mustard Seed By Talbert Toole
From stay-at-home mom to Oxford business owner, Kimberly Bumgardner has reinvented the shopping experience for Oxonians with The Mustard Seed Antique Emporium.
B
efore becoming a business owner, Bumgardner set her own work hours while she raised her children, just like her mother did by working for Mary Kay Cosmetics. Bumgardner appreciated that her mother was able to attend all of her school functions growing up, and she knew she wanted to do the same for her four children. Bumgardner always had a passion to own her own gift shop in the town in which she was raised. And in July of 2014, the perfect opportunity presented itself. “When the owner of The Mustard Seed was ready to retire, she called and asked if I would like to buy it,” Bumgardner said. “We jumped on the opportunity and haven’t looked back.” Since buying The Mustard Seed, Bumgardner has faced unexpected challenges. When she originally bought the store, it was located in a shopping 50 | Sign up for Daily Headlines from hottytoddy.com
center on University Ave. where she was renting the space. Now, she owns the building that houses The Mustard Seed across town on Jackson Ave.“Since the day we bought The Mustard Seed, we had been looking for somewhere to buy our own building so we didn’t have to pay rent,” Bumgardner said. Bumgardner and her husband looked several places before purchasing the building on Jackson Ave. Unfortunately, the deals fell through time and time again. “I knew God had something out there for us,” Bumgardner said. “We just had to wait for his timing.” After praying and searching, the prime location on Jackson Ave. became available. As shops, businesses and restaurants continue to fill Jackson Ave., the Bumgardners finally found “the best move.”
WHERE TO SHOP
Now the couple has flexibility for renovations and upgrades in their new space. “One huge advantage of owning our own building is we do not have the stress and worry if we will have to move for reasons beyond our control,” Bumgardner said. With new ownership and a new location, changes quickly took place at The Mustard Seed. “We have eliminated the vendors who sometimes use this type of business as warehouse and garage sale purposes,” Bumgardner said. “We have an application process to weed out garage sale items and only offer current appealing product.” The Mustard Seed has tripled in vendors since the changes took place. Now, the shop boasts 100 vendors for shoppers to choose from. “We have a variety [of items], from clothing to house decor and furniture,” Bumgardner said.
“I knew God had something out there for us,” Bumgardner said. “We just had to wait for his timing.”

WHERE TO SHOP
In addition to more vendors, The Mustard Seed also offers a little something for the men … a “man cave.” “We have added an area for the men to sit and watch sports on TV while the women shop,” Bumgardner said. And if one gets hungry while relaxing in the man cave or shopping, The Mustard Seed has a permanent food truck, Landshark Crawfish. These are just a few things that The Mustard Seed has to offer for Oxonians who are looking for a one-stop, shop all. Bumgardner still has more ideas in the works that will continue to offer shoppers a different experience than other business in Oxford.

A
s the sun shines and brings warmer weather, everyone starts thinking about how to make their outdoor space luscious and colorful to enjoy those long sunny days. Ole Miss’ landscape is the model for an ideal spring garden, boasting vibrant multi-colored flowers in perfect rows and patches of bright green grass. Landscaping Director Jeff McManus, the man behind the magic, will be teaching tricks to a beautiful garden with the least amount of effort at the Landscaping Camp, hosted by the Oxford- Lafayette Chamber of Commerce and Economic Development Foundation’s Retiree Attraction program. The camp features many professional gardening speakers and exclusive tours of Faulkner’s Rowan Oak and Diane and Dickie Scruggs’ residence gardens, which are also maintained by McManus. If you can’t be a master gardener, then the next best thing is to learn from the masters themselves. Donna Yowell, president of the Mississippi Urban Council and a cut flower gardening specialist, will share how to create and maintain a cut flower garden to adorn your house in lively, home-grown flowers. Nellie Neal, aka “The Garden Mama,” known for her helpful gardening radio show, will teach you how to grow a healthy and dynamic container garden, perfect for decorating any front door area. And who doesn’t love some good old Southern cuisine? Melissa Booth Hall, managing director of Southern Foodways
