This presentation outlines our thinking for the Creative Networks identity. The main consideration for us has been to design something with a life of its own, so that students can pick it up and develop its use for posters etc., but also something that subtly refers back to the main identity and therefore builds in a consistent look and feel.

What we’ve done at this first stage is rather rough and includes the following: We have: – Looked at the logo design – Thought about a system for application – Considered a framework so that students can take the design forward on posters We haven’t: – Fully resolved colour use – Come up with hard and fast rules for application. (these things are next stage considerations)
As always we started with lots of ideas and logo sketches...
The one we’ve pursued links us directly back to the LCA identity but in a way which gives Creative Networks its own voice and visual style. Here’s the idea...

LCA Logos
Looking at the LCA logo we discovered that there was a hidden ‘N’ for ‘Network’ in each shape. Creative Networks is about making connections with industry, with ideas, with professionals. So if you take the mosaic tile and connect the points, you’re left with a letter N.

What this gives us is a shape which suggests a 3 dimensional sculptural object. This concept fits well with the premise of Creative Networks – it’s the fleshed out, next stage of professional life. CN makes creativity into something real and tangible.

A suggestion Should we combine the name with the word ‘lectures’ or even the name of the college to further communicate what CN is?

If we have this shape as a framework, it opens up possibilities into representing it as a 3D shape made from different materials!

We know that students get involved with the promotional items designed for talks, so the logo should work within a framework that allows for students to express themselves whilst maintaining the consistency of the CN identity. Here’s how...
We take the mosaic as it stands...
Extreme zoom into sections of it...
And use that as our framework for poster designs.

Having this 3D mosaic tile as a starting point, it opens up possibilities for the moving ident that you intend to brief the students with...
That ident can run on screens at events.

The next stage for us would be to refine the logo expanding on colours and guidance for applications. All we need from you is agreement on the direction.
