Background
Target Audience
Creative Networks is Leeds College of Art’s major professional events programme. It consists of talks from a diverse group of high profile speakers from across the creative industries to entertain, challenge and make us think. It is the biggest network of this type in the region. In the past the events have featured a wide range of artists, academics and designers, including designer Jimmy Choo, artist David Shrigley, street artist James Jessop, photographer Kevin Cummins, creative entrepreneurs such as Wayne Hemmingway and Jamal Edwards, actor/comedian Adam Buxton, Turner Prize Winner 2012 Elizabeth Price and BBC Film 2014 presenter Danny Leigh.

Research To gauge an understanding of what the art direction is going to look like for the even the speakers were research as reference for the posters and vinyl. With it being thoughbubble a lot of the work is very illustrative and didn’t leave much give in terms of design.

A lot of Ians work is related very much to fantasy role playing games and is going to be difficult to replicate in our particular aesthetic.

This time for Patrick Grant: a British fashion designer and creative director of bespoke tailors Norton & Sons of Savile Row. As a media figure he is best known as a judge on the television series, The Great British Sewing Bee.

Research
To gauge an understanding of what the art direction is going to look like for the even the speakers were research as reference for the posters and vinyl. Patrick Grant work a lot with fashion and tailoring so there is a vast documention via photographs online that we can manipulate.
Manipulating photography from his collection with vectors created a kind of tayloring pattern overlaid on top of the fabric/clothing.

Research Elaine Constantine works a lot with photography, perfecting the grunge style of the 90’s leaving us with plenty of imagery to play with. She has also written and directed the film Northern Soul which provides a whole culture to research.

Outcome The simplistic nature of the typographic layout suited Elaines photography and imagery as it didn’t take away too much from her work.
