Lekker boys lekker…well ime lies when you are having fun they say, just a pity that it is also true for imes when you just don’t have ime. It seems that the more you have to do, the shorter the days become. Before I start with anything, I have a big apology to make here. In the previous issue we had the Corsa bakkie with the RF install in. In this feature I have consistently without skipping a beat referred to the owner as “Albert”, in actual fact his name is Andre van der Merwe. Andre sorry about this, I know that it is not nice when someone gets your name wrong in conversaion, let alone in a write up. Back to maters at hand. We had some issues to contend with since the last issue’s release, but that is just growing pains and small speed bumps in the way. Things almost never workout the way you plan it. So my apologies that we did not have an issue last month. With all the rain we had, some of the events that we intended to cover never took place. There was a sound comp/show and shine event in Johannesburg that rained out, One or two events at ODI rained out, or I just did not feel to take the chance of driving there due to the rain. Nitro raceway had an event that rained out, and on the “rain date” it was also raining… This month as you can see on our cover we have full Features on Leon du Plooy’s 8 second Nissan Champ, Mia Waterson’s DD kited sound quality compeiion car, Gert Eksteen’s blown FE3 powered Mazda and his classic 350ci 56 Chevy and last but not least, we have a litle KE 70 turbo charged Toyota with a full JBL sound system. On the event side we were at Tarlton for the irst club event of the year and the irst Fast Fest Naionals round 1. We had some ime at a local Nitro crew sound comp at Combo Two car wash in Centurion I hope you guys enjoy this issue, to all those who contributed to this in any way, from the guys on the tracks, those competing at sound ofs, every single one who has some part to play in the industry, thank you. leonK

ia Waterson, AKA “DD Bokkie” has been a member of the Sound Quality fraternity for some years now. You see, her husband is Kevin Waterson, owner of Pitch Audio in the Randburg area. So it is only fair that Kevin would have his wife drive around in a fully kitted car. The problem is that this is not just a fully kitted car; this is a meticulously built sound quality competition system. Mia has been competing for around 5 years now, and not just competing to pass the time, no sir, she is a very serious competitor, and the results show. Just to mention a few: In 2009 Mia competed at the IASCA Rand Easter Show (as you can imagine, this is one of the premier events of the year) and came first in her class (at that stage still amateur) and first overall. That in itself is a feat not to be frowned at, an amateur taking overall honours. In 2010 at the same event she came first in the Pro class and third overall. In the same year at the EMMA finals she took top spot in the Advanced class. In 2011 Mia again took the top spot
in the pro class at the EMMA and the following year again at the IASCA Rand Easter show she ended up with a win in the Pro class. Just the other day she took the SQSA Expert class and best install on the day. These are by no means all the comps that she has won with this car, just a few she could mention without thinking to hard… there are a lot more trophies amongst these mentioned here. In short, this is one of the best Sound Quality cars in the country. Before anyone ask “how many dBs does she push?” This not a SPL system, so please don't even go there. SQ is the art of reproducing the original unplugged production, concerning stage depth, height, width and placement of the original instruments on the stage. It is about tonal accuracy, musicality and the quality of the installation. So there are no screaming tweeters or overpowering subs in this ride, rather a clean, balanced and well displayed system. The heart and soul of this system, besides all the hard work and dedication that went into this car, is an Alpine CDA 9887 head unit. These
