2011 CAMP GENERAL INFORMATION

General Information Camps are 1 week sessions, unless otherwise noted. Each session participants will go on an exciting ¿eld trip. Swim time will be part of each of the full-day camps. A theme calendar and Camp T-shirt will be sent home the ¿rst day. Emergency form must be returned to staff on the ¿rst day of Camp. Campers must bring sunblock, lunch, snack, and a water bottle.

Camp Staff Camp staff are hired for their enthusiastic, fun, and creative personalities. All staff attend training programs prior to Camp. Mandatory background checks for all staff and drivers. Supervisors are mature and responsible adults. Counselors are 16 years and older. All staff are CPR/AED and First Aid certi¿ed.

Camp Registration Information Parents must register in-person or online for all Camp programs. Parents will receive a “Summer Day Camp Parent Manual” and emergency form at the time of registration. The registration deadline is the Wednesday prior to the camp’s start date. A payment plan is available to all 5-day session Day Camp registrants! A $25 down payment per child, per 5-day Camp session is required at the time of registration to reserve your spot. Payment must be made at the Park District of¿ce with the balance paid in full by the Wednesday preceding each Camp session. If not paid in full by the required date, the deposit will be forfeited, the child will be dropped from the Camp session. Full Camp session fees are required. Pro-rating is not available.

Camp Open House

Days off Club – Camp

Introduce yourself and your camper to the staff before camp begins! Staff will be available in their camp rooms to answer any questions from parents and campers. Staff will discuss speci¿c camp curriculum, camp policies, age ranges and procedures and ¿eld trips at your camp site. Campers will become more comfortable with their new surroundings and will get a jump start on their summer camp experience.

School’s out (for District 20)! Come join the club before camp begins. Each day will be a different theme! Enjoy playing games and activities and making crafts with our creative, friendly staff. An afternoon snack is provided on each day.

Discovery Camp This camp will help younger children discover what camp is all about! Their summer will be ¿lled with outside play, new friends, crafts, games and adventure. Campers must be toilet independent to attend camp. Campers will be split into age appropriate groups as needed. Each session we will go swimming and on a fun ¿eld trip. Sports Camp

This camp is for the younger sports fan! Campers will learn how to be a team player through drills, games, and sports. Campers will spend time at Seafari Springs and go on a ¿eld trip, each session.

Get active! During camp, a variety of sports and activities will be taught and played. Campers will learn team work, sportsmanship, and leadership while having fun. All activities are structured so that age and skill level are balanced. Campers will spend time at Seafari Springs and go on a ¿eld trip each session.

Teen Leader Camp

Have you ever wondered what its like to be a counselor? In this camp you will learn exactly what it takes. While learning how to prepare plans, you will also have your own camp experience through swimming, activities and a ¿eld trip.

The “Big Yellow Bus” will safely transport your child to and/or from summer camp. The bus driver will call to let you know where your child(ren) will be picked up and dropped off from prior to the ¿rst day of camp. A revised bus schedule will be sent home on the ¿rst day of the session if needed. Bus service is only available to Park District residents.

ROCKY’S HOOPS SQUAD ROCKY’S SMALL SHOTS CAMP

SUMMER YOUTH SOCCER CAMP!

Become a member of Rocky Robinson’s HOOPS SQUAD! Get a head start on the competition by enrolling in this inaugural camp, putting a strong emphasis on basic fundamentals of basketball. Instructor Rocky Robinson will teach your 4-6 year old the necessary skills to a successful Small Shots season this coming winter. AQUATIC FACILITY CLOSING

SUMMER EMPLOYMENT & VOLUNTEERS

Seafari Springs Aquatic Center will be closed at the Aquatic Coordinator’s discretion based on the air temperature being 68 degrees or below, low attendance (less than 25 people), mechanical failure or inclement weather. The facility may reopen if conditions improve. Refunds will not be issued if the pool is closed for the day.

Looking for your ¿rst job! Apply to work at the Seafari Springs Aquatic Center as a lifeguard, swim lesson instructor or concession staff. Each position has different requirements and responsibilities. Positions are available to individuals 16 years of age and older. Pick up an employment application and job description at the Hanover Park Park District Community Center registration desk.

ELLIS & ASSOCIATES LIFEGUARD TRAINING Hanover Park Park District lifeguards have completed water safety training and testing conducted by Ellis & Associates. Ellis & Associates is recognized as the leader in aquatic risk management and lifeguard training. Each lifeguard must pass the 20 hour International Lifeguard Training Program that includes First Aid/CPR/AED and water rescue skills. In addition, all lifeguards are required to complete a minimum of 4 hours of in service each month. Ellis & Associates conducts surprise audits to review the facility and staff performance throughout the summer.

Visitors without season pool passes will be charged admission each time they enter the aquatic facilities. Children age 2 and under are admitted free. Children 10 years of age and under will be allowed in the aquatic facility only if they are accompanied and supervised by a parent or responsible person (16 years & older).

Hippo’s Watering Hole

Zero-Depth Pool

Before you return to the pool or deck area, remember to rinse yourself off!

Just like a beach, the water gradually deepens from less than an inch to a depth of 12 feet. Wade and enjoy the cool water on a hot summer day. Water geysers shoot up to 6 feet of water. Have an Elephant Shower, too!

Aqua Bloom This feature has a large colorful Àower bloom as the top. It has a series of nozzles in a unique formation around the column creating an amazing spiral curtain. A secondary jet shoots water from the center of the Àower.

Turtle Falls Water Play Area & Slide Play in a rumbling 13-foot waterfall. Climb between the rocks for a fast trip down a tropical slide.

Cheetah’s Run Speed Slide Swish down the fastest 61-foot water slide in the area. Reach exhilarating high speeds before splash-landing in the plunge pool.

Anaconda Alley Tube Slide Grab an inner tube and cascade down our 200foot tube slide. Tandem tubes available for double fun.

Rhino Chute Body Slide The ultimate 130-foot water slide that twists and turns and ends with a big splash into the plunge pool.

The Oasis Concession Area For lunch, dinner, or just a snack! The Oasis is open daily during most open swim hours. Enjoy pizza, hot dogs, hamburgers, chicken ¿ngers, bratwurst, french fries, nachos, popcorn, hot jumbo pretzels, chips, cookies, ice cream, candy, slushies, bottled water, soft drinks, iced tea, and more.

Congo Capers Sand Play Area Wiggle your toes in the sand, ride an animal spring-bouncer, frolic on the huge gorilla or just relax under the palm trees.

Camel’s Sand Volleyball Zone For landlubbers who want action, our sand volleyball court provides opportunities for fun, exercise, competition and the chance to showcase your ability.

Leap or dive off our one-meter board. You’re airborne until splashdown.

Tarzan’s & Jane’s Locker Rooms Clean and spacious men’s and women’s locker rooms feature lockers to keep your belongings safe while you enjoy Seafari Springs. Locks are available for purchase at the cashier’s desk. (Locks not removed by the end of the day will be cut off.) The Hanover Park Park District is not responsible for personal belongings. As you enter the pool deck, stroll under our unique Misting Palm Trees.

Pool pass holders from summer 2010 or Centre Court members, who have retained their photo ID cards will not need new cards for 2011 These cards will automatically be updated upon renewal of the current year’s season pass. There is a $5.00 charge to re place a lost or stolen photo ID card issued from 2010. 2. NEW POOL PASS SALES: Each family member will need a photo taken at the time of registration. All family members should sign up for pool passes at the same time. 3. Have proof of Hanover Park Park District residency ready when you come to register for your pool pass. A current driver’s license AND a current utility bill that shows your name and address will be needed to con¿rm residency. If you are unsure about your residency status in the HPPD, please call us at 630-837-2468 to avoid any confusion prior to registration. 4. Payment may be made with cash, check, VISA, MasterCard or Discover. 5. Families with over 5 members will require birth certi¿cates for all children 23 years and under to be included on the pass. A family is de¿ned as parent(s) and any unmarried children who are between the ages of 3 and 23 who are living at home, and, grandparents who live at the same address (proof of residency is required). Children who are 24 and older or any other relatives/ individuals in the same household will not be included in the family pass. Children age 2 and under will not require a pass. The Hanover Park Park District’s Learn To Swim Program offers swimming instruction for people of all ages and abilities. Swim lessons are available several sessions throughout the summer. Rain dates are reserved for makeup classes due to inclement weather. The Learn To Swim Parent Manual is available at registration, the ¿rst day of lessons and on the Park District website at www.hpparks.org. Participants 5 years & older will be tested the ¿rst day of class and placed in the Seahorse through Dolphins levels. Parents and other spectators are permitted to wait on the deck area under the Funbrellas or the Oasis concession area. Advance registration is recommended to ensure choice of class times for the entire summer. Registration will not be accepted after the registration deadline to ensure low ratios, quality lessons and instructor availability. The park district reserves the right to combine class levels if deemed appropriate.

INCLEMENT WEATHER POLICY The Hanover Park Park District’s swim lesson program includes out-of-water instruction and teaches safety awareness. If there are questionable air or water temperatures/conditions, classes may still be held out-of-water. Classes will be cancelled only in the case of severe weather. The decision to cancel class will be made before the start of each swim lesson. Because of the large number of participants and unpredictable summer weather, we cannot contact everyone in case of cancellation. See the Learn To Swim Parent Manual for cancellation procedures.

SAILFISH SWIM TEAM The Hanover Park Park District’s Sail¿sh Swim Team is a competitive organization designed to improve each swimmer’s performance, racing technique, endurance, and Àexibility in an exciting atmosphere of fun and safety. Swim team is open to boys & girls between the ages of 6 and 18. Swimmers ages 9 & under must be able to swim two lengths of the pool. Interested in having your very own aquatic park for a few hours? Seafari Springs Aquatic Center is available for rent for those swim enthusiasts! Aquatic facilities are an ideal place for company picnics, church outings, school parties, birthday parties and all groups. Rates include use of the entire facility. The Park District reserves the right to allow more than one group to rent at one time. Rental times are available between Saturday, June 6 and Sunday August 22, 2010 after regular hours. If you have not yet applied for online registration, a simple quick visit to the Hanover Park Park District Community Center at 1919 Walnut, Hanover Park, Illinois is necessary to complete the online registration form. 2. RESIDENTS AND NON RESIDENT RATES A “resident” is de¿ned as anyone living within the geographical boundaries of the Hanover Park Park District. Residents in Hanover Park Park District have priority for limited programs. You may be required to pay the non-resident fee even though you live in Hanover Park because the boundaries of the village are not the same as the boundaries of the Park District. Non-residents may register for programs for a fee that is 50% percent higher than the resident fee or $15 over the resident fee, whichever is the smaller amount. TRANSFERS Requests must be made in person. A $5 fee will apply for most transfers. A $10 fee will apply for Preschool, After School Club, Before School Club and day camp programs. REFUND POLICY Refunds will not be granted for class(es) missed or forgotten. All requests for refunds must be submitted in writing. Forms for refunds are available at the Park District of¿ce. Refunds requested for a program prior to the start of a class will be assessed a $5 fee. A request for a refund after the program begins, but prior to the 2nd meeting, will also be assessed an additional prorated fee based upon the per class cost. NO refunds will be granted after the 2nd class with the exception of a written medical excuse with the fee based on the prorated cost per class and the normal service fee. Refunds for trips will not be given unless the trip is canceled by the Park District or a replacement is found to take the trip. A $10 refund fee applies for Preschool, After School Club, Before School Club, and day camp programs. PHOTO POLICY The Hanover Park Park District reserves the right to photograph or videotape participants in Park District programs, facilities or parks for the District's use. FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE The Youth Activity Supplement Program (Y.A.P.), sponsored by the Village of Hanover Park offers residents who experience undue hardship, an opportunity to enroll their children in recreation programs. ACCESSIBILITY The Hanover Park Park District, Centre Court Athletic Club and all other facilities are accessible and comply with A.D.A. standards. The elevator in the Community Center is accessible from all three levels and is available for public use. PROGRAM CODE OF CONDUCT To ensure enjoyable and safe programs for all participants, the Hanover Park Park District has developed a behavior code. Participants shall: • Show respect to all participants and staff • Refrain from using foul language • Refrain from causing bodily harm • Show respect to equipment, supplies and facilities Additional rules are developed for speci¿c programs as deemed necessary by staff. Failure to comply with this Code of Conduct may result in removal from program or event without refund.
