Bike Path and Trails Maintenance Policy

3

Hanover Park Park District | 630.837.2468 | hpparks.org

Mother Nature will be allowed to take her own course of action with respect to our park district bike paths and trails, located at Community Park, Ahlstrand Park, Harbor Park East-West, Nautilus Park and Ranger Park. In Illinois there is no legal duty to clear paths or trails. But if an agency voluntarily takes on the job, liability may be imposed if it is not done properly. The Park District Risk Management Agency (PDRMA) recommends that we limit path maintenance to a thorough seasonending inspection and documentation of irregularities, that we fix any hazards and that we post signs conveying the message that users of the paths and trails do so at their own risk.

Thank you to the Village of Hanover Park, Lions Club, and Hanover Park Park Foundation The staff and commissioners of the Hanover Park Park District take this opportunity to sincerely thank the Village of Hanover Park and the Hanover Park Lions Club for their generous financial donations that make participation in recreation programs possible for the children of families experiencing financial hardship. Working together, the Hanover Park Youth Activity Supplement Program of the Village of Hanover Park, the Lions Club, and the Hanover Park Park Foundation have assisted many families in Hanover Park to provide activities such as karate, dance, soccer, basketball, gymnastics, swim lessons, aquatic facility passes, and summer camp for their children. Since 1998, more than 300 individual scholarships have been awarded totaling more than $40,000.00 Thank you, Lions Club and Village of Hanover Park. Through your dedication, cooperation, and generosity you have enriched the lives of many children by giving them the opportunity to participate in our Park District’s programs.

Northwest Special Recreation Association The Hanover Park Park District is a member of a cooperative agreement among 17 park districts which forms the Northwest Special Recreation Association (NWSRA). The NWSRA team of full-time Therapeutic Recreation professionals and trained part-time staff offer safe, fun and high quality year-round recreation opportunities to individuals with disabilities of all ages and ability levels. For more information on NWSRA, brochures may be picked up at the park district main office or at the NWSRA office at Park Central, 3000 W. Central Road in Rolling Meadows. NWSRA may be contacted at (847) 3922848 (voice) 392-2855 (TTY) or 392-2870 (fax). Check us out on the web at nwsra.org.

630-837-2468 (EXT. 208)

Sledding and Ice Skating The Hanover Park Park District has two sledding areas just right for the winter sports enthusiasts. Community Park, 1919 Walnut Avenue and Heritage Park, Arlington Drive West. The sledding and skating areas are unsupervised. Parents are encouraged to visit these areas with their children. When sledding remember to sled away from the moat at Community Park and the lake at Heritage Park.

For those who wish to skate… The Park District clears areas at Community Park Lake, Heritage Park Lake, Morton Pond and Harbor East Lake from the first freeze through the end of February. Maintenance on these ponds will begin as soon as it is safe to skate. During the skating season, ice depth is monitored by Park District personnel. These areas are marked for safety. Skaters should proceed with caution. Skating is at your own risk. Skating is not permitted at any other Park District location, including Ranger Park and the Community Center moat. Red Flags indicate that conditions are dangerous and that no one should go on the ice. Yellow Flags indicate that the ice depth was safe at the time of testing.

If you are new to Hanover Park or have a friend or neighbor moving into our community call 630.837.2468 to request a free new resident packet. The packet contains Park District information and promotional products that will introduce new residents to our wonderful recreation activities and give them an opportunity to “Enrich Their Lives”.

ADULT ARTS & GENERAL Hanover Park Park District | 630.837.2468 | hpparks.org Painting Studio

Painting for the Person Who Can't Paint

For all ability levels. Beginners learn the basics of applying oil or acrylic paint, how to buy art supplies, how to mix colors, and how to compose a painting. Experienced students will develop individual interests and receive feedback. This is a low-stress class designed to get you started if you’ve always wanted to paint, or back into painting regularly if you gave it up. Please register by Saturday, January 15 for Winter session and Saturday, March 19 for Spring session.

Maybe you have never touched an artist’s paintbrush in your life. Great! This Thursday evening Spring course meeting March 10 through April 14 will start at the very beginning. Come empty-handed to the first class to experience for yourself the difference between oils and acrylics, allowing you to choose the medium you like best. With a simple supply list, you’ll shop for materials to bring to the second class when you’ll start learning fundamentals. After that, you’ll be guided through a set of enlightening exercises designed to introduce the creativity and fun of painting. Happiness studies show that “making something” is a good way to boost contentment. Bring a friend for extra fun. Questions in advance? Contact instructor Susan Matthews at 630-8372468, or email s.matthews@hpparks.org. Please register by Tuesday, March 8.

PERSONAL TRAINING

Fitness Testing & Assessment

Are you in need of advice, direction, or encouragement when it comes to your workout program? Our certified personal trainers can help you…

You’ve made a commitment to get in shape. A good way to get started is to have an assessment of your current fitness level to determine your strengths and weaknesses. The fitness test includes a cardiovascular assessment, muscular strength and endurance, flexibility, body fat composition analysis, and blood pressure. If you work out consistently, have an assessment done every 6-8 weeks to see your progress and learn of any changes to improve your workout program.
