The past twelve months have been nothing short of remarkable, a true testament to our relentless pursuit of excellence and the collective dedication of our team.

As always, our main source of inspiration stems from the remarkable growth and development of our exquisite sporthorses; from foals at foot in the pasture to the athletes on Auction to their ultimate achievements at the highest levels of the showjumping sport – this is the Capital Stud vision embodied.

Henning’s unwavering dedication to breeding horses of unrivalled consistency, capable of competing and winning on the global stage, shines through in this May 2024 Capital Stud Auction Collection. With each passing year, our offerings continue to surpass expectations. Whilst Capital Stud horses have long since established their dominance in the 1.50m classes in South Africa, we await the inevitable rise of these young athletes to join their compatriots at the pinnacle of our sport.

Capital Stud Legacy

The Capital Collection is now at the age where we can start looking back on our rich history of proven performance. The connections between horses at the top of the sport, and those in the Collections become fascinating to trace. With each year of Auction horses, our story unfolds, creating a narrative that we can now follow to see how the lines we breed, and the traits we breed for, are creating a new generation of world-class sporthorses. To be able to see the trajectory of where a youngster of today should find himself in years to come makes Capital horses a sure bet. With a host of new Capital Stud-bred horses reaching their first 1.40m and 1.50m classes, we are proud to be able to demonstrate the evidence supporting our vision.

This year’s Collections promise to reach new heights and achieve even more than the generations before.

As always, the well-being of our horses comes first, and as such we are limiting the number of try-out sessions available and maintaining our horses on strict individual schedules, with rest days.

TICKET BOOKINGS

All tickets will be on sale from Tuesday the 2nd of April. Booking is available via an online booking system and the links will be advertised on our social media and website.

VETTINGS

Capital Stud has a full vetting with X-Rays available for each sport horse on Auction. All vettings and X-Rays were completed by Dr Mike Ross.

These vettings will be available for viewing at the Auction where buyers can consult with Dr Mike Ross on Auction Day. Any pre-auction access to X-Rays and reports can be arranged through Dr Mike Ross directly on 011 468 3100.

In Nicole’s words, “Cornetblue has insane rideability – he’s adjustable and balanced with an exceptional mouth. His nature is amazing. He reminds me very much of Capital Colnardo – he’s intelligent, efficient and fast. This is a very exciting horse.”

With this combination of bloodlines featuring three of the top seven Black-Type percentage stallions in the world, it is no surprise that Cornetblue’s foals have left all who’ve seen them awestruck. They all have the stamp of their father. We can’t wait for the day we can offer them on Auction.

Capital Qorland is the son of Corland VDL and Zinnia I. Zinnia I is the mother to Capital Levubu, Capital Pretorius, and Capital New Star – this is a true stellar lineage. With genetics like these, it is no surprise that his striking looks come with talent and a temperament to match. He is demonstrating great promise for the future under Nicole Horwood. In the words of Nicole, “He has a big scopey jump, is balanced and careful.” He is jumping in the 1.35m classes and it’s fair to say he’s throwing ALL the right shapes.

Figaro is a stallion of the future and is certainly making his mark in the showjumping arena. Purchased as a foal at the Fences Auction, he is sired by Kannan GFE and out of a Dollar Du Murier mare, Miloust D’Isigny. Figaro is the full brother to top mare Albfuhren Paille, who partnered with Steve Guerdat to win the Longines FEI World Cup held in Las Vegas in 2015. Capital Figaro’s first offspring will soon appear on Auction, and they won’t disappoint. This is a stallion poised to rewrite the future of South African sporthorse breeding.

Capital Impossible is an exceptional stallion by the WBFSH ranked number 12 stallion Verdi, out of the illustrious Kicky Queen. He is the half-brother to Zangersheide approved stallion, Tyson, with both sharing Kicky Queen as their dam. Tyson was selected as a first reserve for the London Olympics. Kicky Queen is also the mother of Moeen, who competes in the 1.60m classes internationally. Capital Impossible is currently competing at the 1.50m level with Nicole Horwood. The best is still to come in the form of offspring from this prodigiously talented stallion.

Capital Legacy’s parents are both popular figures in the South African showjumping hall of fame. His sire, Capital Levubu, needs little introduction and his mother, Capital My Lady, needs even less. This is a family tree laden with showjumping royalty. Capital Levubu is sired by the Caretino son Cachas. When Cachas completed his 30-day test in 2012 he scored a 10.0 for jumping ability, 9.25 for character and 9.00 for his canter. Then, Capital My Lady, who is currently competing with Thomas van Rijckevorsel in the 1.50m classes is one of the most exciting mares on the circuit today, with an abundance of scope, carefulness, bravery and athleticism. With proven bloodlines like these, and Cassini I on both sides of the pedigree, we had high-hopes for this match, but Legacy has overdelivered on all our expectations. This stallion embodies the future ambitions of Capital Stud.

Capital’s Hermes Pommex Z was sold on the Stephex Stables Auction, where he was described as being ‘perfectly bred and born’. By Halifax van het Kluizebos, who himself is by Heartbreaker, the blood coursing in this young stallion’s veins is laced with greatness. And yet, this stallion’s prowess in many ways lies in his damline; Nusha is out of the very best damline featuring Usha van ’t Roosakker as her dam, who was not only a competitive 1.50m horse herself, but produced multiple top competitors and broodmares.

Capital’s Harton van de Berghoeve Z was the top seller at the 2019 Zangersheide Auction, going for 76,000 Euros. Sired by Heartbreaker and out of a mare by Diamant de Semilly, the genetics here are unbeatable. He demonstrates Heartbreaker’s trademark blood and agility, with Diamant de Semilly’s scope, flexibility and athleticism. It doesn’t get much better than this.

Capital Toulouse has a presence you can’t ignore. With the same mother, Cha Cha, as young competition stallion Capital Cornetblue Floreval Z and Capital Moonlight, he is destined to be great. Cha Cha is the daughter of the world number one breeding stallion Chacco-Blue. Chacco-Blue is known for giving his offspring a workable mindset, great front end technique, and bravery. Then on the stallion side we have Diarado, the son of Diamant de Semilly. Despite being the youngest stallion on the WBFSH, Diarado has almost 100 offspring competing in the 1.50m level and 60 approved sons in Germany alone. Capital Toulouse holds great promise for the future of South African breeding.

Capital’s Todos de Regor was sold on the Flanders Auction. His sire, Chacco-Blue, needs no introduction, still ranking as the number one stallion in the world. Similarly, Centa de Muze, his dam, has a reputation for quality that precedes her. Described by the Flanders Foal Auction team as a ‘supermare’ Centa de Muze’s offspring are almost guaranteed international competitiveness. By way of illustration, her offspring including Freestyle de Muze, Horizon de Regor, Inri de Regor, Kerly de Regor and Melia de Regor all compete at the 1.50-1.60m level. Centa’s dam, Walloon de Muze is the second dam of the very impressive, approved stallion Million Dollar. Walloon de Muze is out of the remarkable Qerly Chin who is probably one of the most well-known dams for breeding success, not only in terms of competition horses but also in terms of breeding exquisite broodmares. With these bloodlines, we have high expectations for the offspring of this young stallion.

Jaures is sired by Olympic Gold Medallist, Baloubet du Rouet (1.60m), who was ranked number one on the WBFSH in both 2012 and 2013. His dam, Hera van ’t Roosakker is by the stallion Wandor van Mispelaere (1.50m), who is known for his exemplary technique and enormous scope. Hera is also the daughter of the very competitive CSI5* 1.60m horse, Cella (1.60m), who is by Cento and out of the legendary Usha Van’t Roosakker (1.50m). He stamps his offspring with every bit of his genetic potential; this is a stallion destined to excel.
