ISSUE NO. 6
A MONTHLY NEWSLETTER SHANNON’S SNIPPET Sometimes it just takes a new perspective. We all can get bogged down in doing things because “we’ve always done it that way” - I’m here to tell you we can’t just keep on keeping on. When we fail to pay attention to how things change, whether it is the fact that we can get accurate property records online instead of heading down to the register of deeds, or that consumers want to sign paperwork with their phones and hear about the latest offer on their property via FaceTime while in their pajamas, we fail a little bit and, over time, that failure to adapt adds up in lack of efficiency, lack of consumer
service and ultimately, lack of confidence. So, in 2019, I encourage and challenge you to stretch your usual way of doing and thinking. Embrace change, BE the change that creates a better way. Embrace solutions even if you didn’t think of them. And think of them, too. Here’s to dreaming, improving, and growing together.

If showing up is half the battle, what’s the other half?
Remember that shiny new product that ate up your time & quickly got left behind? Did you see it as a waste of time or an opportunity to develop something better? Sony Betamax, 1975. RJ Reynolds Smokeless Cigarettes, 1989. Apple Newton, 1993. Google Glass, 2013. Epic failures of innovation that all ultimately resulted in huge successes. Failure is frustrating, to say the least, but failure is critical to growth. The founder of Honda said “Success is 99% failure.” I’d say that’s a little dramatic, but true in concept. If we’re afraid to be innovative, we fail to take risk & never have the opportunity to grow. Where would you be if at 10 months old you didn’t let go of the couch? What if when you finally did let go and fell down the first time, you said “Nah, I’m good at crawling. It gets me where I need to go. I think I’ll just stick with this”? Our industry is changing at the speed of light, consumer expectations & agent needs are evolving daily, new tools (and threats) are popping up everywhere, and your management team is committed to leading that change on a local and regional level to put you in position to be at the front of the pack. The combined knowledge of our huge agent network empowers us to do just that, but we need your input, so please be open with your ideas, encourage growth from the inside out, and try to see failures as opportunities. Showing up is half the battle. I’d argue the other half is a combination of risk & adaptation. Try new things. Celebrate failure. Fall forward. And most importantly, remember that every failure is an opportunity.

Let’s talk food RED VELVET HEART COOKIES
!
PHOTO: BETTER HOME & GARDEN
YIELDS: 46 cookies
HANDS ON: 40 mins
TOTAL TIME: 2 hour
LOVE IS IN THE AIR - These heart cookies are cute-as-can-be thanks to a flurry of powdered sugar. Get the free heart stencils at www.bhg.com/HeartCookie.
Ingredients
1 cup butter, softened | 1 1/4 cups granulated sugar | 2 tablespoons unsweetened cocoa powder
1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder | 1/2 teaspoon salt | 2 eggs | 1 tablespoon liquid red food coloring 1 teaspoon vanilla | 2 3/4 cups all-purpose flour | Powdered sugar
Directions
1. In a large mixing bowl beat butter on medium to high 30 seconds. Add sugar, cocoa, baking powder, and salt.
2. Beat until combined, scraping sides of bowl occasionally. Beat in eggs, food coloring, and vanilla until combined. Beat in as much of the flour as you can with the mixer. Stir in any remaining flour. Divide dough in half. Cover; chill dough 1 hour or until easy to handle.
3. Preheat oven to 375 degrees F. On a floured surface roll half the dough at a time to 1/4-inch thickness. Cut dough using a 21/2- to 31/2-inch heart-shape cookie cutter. Place cutouts 1 inch apart on ungreased cookie sheets.
4. Bake 6 to 7 minutes or until edges are firm and bottoms are very light brown. Transfer cookies to wire racks to cool. Sprinkle with powdered sugar, using stencils if desired. Makes forty-six 21/2-inch or twenty-two 31/2-inch cookies. View more recipes on Better Home & Garden - Link below: bhg.com/recipe/red-velvet-heart-cookies
