ho says men don’t understand women? We understand them, we listen, unfortunately sometimes it goes into one ear and accidentally falls out the other ear or our interpretation which has scientifically nothing to do with understanding is a bit or a lot different from what is being said or meant. When a woman says No, it is no. When she says Yes it is maybe and when she says maybe it is yes. Not difficult is it? Driving to BKK there are speed traps. A friend borrowed me his sports car which was capable of speeds close to Mach1. I spotted a cop on the road with a camera on the left lane. I decided to point the car to him a little. His face turned white within a fraction of a second and jumped backwards into the Klong, taking the camera with him. As both smelled badly no one believed him that he saw a Porsche doing 285 kmh. Must have been Batman, which reminds of of the terrible news in the US. This shooting and other increasing crime is a result of crime programs and films made in the recent years. No games without shooting, killing, bombs etc. What is happening in Syria you can buy from any android or similar game company. So who gets upset now? Putin is probably watching Tom

EDITORIAL FOREWORD and Jerry with which it all started which again proofs his reluctance to stop Assad. Make love not war people ! Watching developments closely on the financial chaos in Europe, I wonder where, when and how this is going to end. A lot of retirees are literally cheated as Embassies do not help them to show the income they originally received a retirement visa on. Not realizing that the Euro income was reduced by at least 20% from 50 THB per Euro to 38, Embassies have been approached for help but all on deaf ears. I did not expect any better. They are here for cocktail parties and Bak Wan the local authorities, but HELP? How do you spell it? Also Thai authorities should be a bit more considerate as Thai invoices are still paid in full. With the Bath being as strong as it is, although standing on shifting sands, retirees should be granted lower income levels for a Visa. Watching TV, the commentator got a bit pessimistic with our Eurozone. No reason, we have Baht here anyway, why worry and it is strong. So strong that one day it may swallow our Euro. Well our savings are under pressure but then again we have great capacities managing our money. Greats like Helmuth Kohl, Mitterand and others who sold us out, had figures
manipulated to make others look good in order to enable a United Euro, one currency, now have now worries. The Dutch are sitting on their gebakkene peren and the Germans proclaim “ach du liebe Scheisse”. In France it is whispered “La grande merde est arrive. No worries we have Angela and monsieur Hollande. They will fix. Italians have little worry, they could always go back to Lire and collect millions as before. Europeans bring your money to Thailand, invest in Real estate. If Euro drops, your money will be worth less in Europe so buy assets here. SEA will grow importantly, your assets will grow. Which reminds me. Being a believer but not belonging to any religious organization, I though this was good : Toward the end of the Sunday service, the Minister asked, How many of you have forgiven your enemies?” 80% held up their hands. The Minister then repeated his question. All responded this time, except one man, an avid golfer named Walter Barnes, who attended church only when the weather was bad. “Mr. Barnes, it’s obviously not a good morning for golf. It’s good to see you here today. Are you not willing to forgive your enemies?” “I don’t have any,” he replied gruffly. “Mr. Barnes,
that is very unusual. How old are you?” “Ninety-eight,” he replied. The congregation stood up and clapped their hands. “Oh, Mr. Barnes, would you please come down in front & tell us all how a person can live ninety-eight years & not have an enemy in the world?” The old golfer tottered down the aisle, stopped in front of the pulpit, turned around, faced the congregation, and said simply, “I outlived the bastards.” ……….. Yours truly GMoss

Hua Hin to Celebrate Queen’s Birthday
Life Story of
Her Majesty Queen Sirikit of Thailand
H
er Majesty, Queen regent Sirikit of Thailand was born on August 12, 1932 to the second Prince Chanthaburi and his wife Mom Luang Bua Sanidvongse. While her parents worked at the Royal Siamese Embassy in Washington DC young Sirikit was cared for by her grandparents for the first year of her life. As a child she went to school amid many dangers due to the Second World War in which Bangkok was often attacked from the air. She went to the St Francis Xavier Convent school near the palace and after the war went with her family to Great Britain where her father was appointed ambassador to the Court of St James. In Britain Sirikit learned English, French and the piano, she was able to visit a number of countries and studied music in Paris where she also met her musically inclined husband-to-be who was then studying in Switzerland. A courtship soon developed between the pair. In 1948 the future king was in a car accident that injured his back and cost him an eye but Sirikit was ever at his side to care for him. She moved to a school closer to the Prince to be near him and after a one year engagement the couple were married in 1950. One week later man and wife became King Bhumibol Adulyadej and Queen Sirikit of Thailand but returned to Switzerland after the coronation to continue their education, returning to Thailand in 1952. The handsome young couple were extremely popular with the people and the King greatly loved and trusted his wife. In 1956 when the King, following Thai custom, spent some time as a Buddhist monk he named Sirikit regent of Thailand in his absence, only the second time in Thai history that a consort had
been given the title of regent. Over the years Queen Sirikit has endeared herself ever more to her people who celebrate her birthday as a national holiday and as Thai mother’s day. On the family front she gave her husband three daughters and one son born in 1951, 1952, 1955 and 1957. One of the areas that the Queen has taken a particular interest in is the Muslim minority in southern Thailand which she frequently visits and works to promote peace and cooperation. Her service in this area, as a “quiet diplomat” as she has been called, has been extremely helpful in maintaining peace in the kingdom. Queen Sirikit has also shown herself to be a talented writer, writing a book about her travels in Europe as well as a number of musical compositions. As President of the Thai Red Cross she was of great service during the tsunami disaster and has also taken a special interest in the humanitarian service of Cambodian and Burmese refugees who have fled to Thailand. She has also worked to emphasize and preserve traditional Thai culture and history and keep it alive in new ways for younger generations. A particularly proud achievement she participated in was the production of the massive, epic movie “The Legend of Suriyothai” about the inspiring life of the most famous warrior queen in Thai history. In recent years Queen Sirikit has suffered from several health problems but these have been kept strictly private. Nonetheless, she has been a tower of strength for her husband in his increasingly frail years. She is extremely protective of him and due to his fragile health has had to take on most responsibilities in the palace while always working behind the scenes in deference to her revered husband and king. Her years of service and her loving kindness toward her husband, His Majesty King Bhumibol, have been outstanding and prove her totally worthy of the immense regard in which she is held by the Thai people. Long live our Queen.
H
ua Hin city is going to celebrate the 80th birthday anniversary of HRH Queen Sirikit on 12 August 2012. According to the District Chief of Hua Hin Mr. Pornchai Thomkrachang, 12 August marks the Queen’s birthday and the National Mother’s Day of Thailand as the Queen’s untiring contribution to the country is exceptional and overwhelming to all Thai people. Consequently, public and private organizations organize an event to celebrate this auspicious occasion all over the country every year. In terms of the Queen’s birthday celebration in Hua Hin, this year’s event will be divided into 3 sessions. The morning session, from 6.30 a.m. to 8 a.m., allows everyone in Hua Hin to offer alms to Buddhist monks on Dechanuchit Road (in front of Hua Hin Municipal School). Then, from 8.45 a.m. to 7 p.m., there is a ceremony of presenting royal tributes to the Queen at the exit of Klai Kangwon Royal Palace. Finally, from 5 p.m. onwards, a candle-lit ceremony of expressing gratitude to Her Majesty will be held at 19-Rai Queen Sirikit Memorial Park. On this occasion, the Hua Hin Municipality kindly asks local people and
visitors to attend the event together and decorate their house and building with a national Thai flag or a flag with the royal emblem to honor Her Majesty.

Hua Hin to Celebrate Annual Buddhist Lent T
he Hua Hin Municipality will organize the Annual Budhist Lent Festival again this year to mark the 3-month period of the rainsretreat by Buddhist monks, said Mr. Natthaphol Wannaphuti, the Permanent Secretary of Hua Hin Municipality. The event will take place at Phon Kingphet Memorial Park in Hua Hin from 31 July to 1 August 2012. On 31 July, there will be a candle molding ceremony and music performances from 5 – 8.30 p.m. and on 1 August, there will be a candle procession ceremony starting at 8 a.m. onwards. All the candles made from the ceremony will be provided to temples in Hua Hin municipal areas. As the Buddhist Lent falls on 3 August this year, all Buddhist temples in Hua Hin will hold a Buddhist Lent
ceremony to mark the rains-retreat on that day. For the duration of Buddhist Lent or Khao Phansa in Thai, Buddhist monks remain inside monasteries and temple grounds. In some monasteries, they dedicate the time to intensive meditation. Some Buddhist lay people choose to observe the period by adopting more ascetic practices, such as giving up meat, alcohol, or smoking. In Thailand, besides making merit at temple and observe Buddhist precepts, Thai people hold a candle molding and a candle procession ceremony. Following Buddhist beliefs, offering candles to Buddhist monks will make ones intelligent.

Bangkok’s top developers ‘dominate the market’
P
rices of luxury apartments in Bangkok have hit a record high. According to the latest market report from property consultants, CBRE significant price influxes have been witnessed at the top end of the capital’s condominium market. Reason being, a lack of availability of two and three bedroom properties on the Bangkok market. Aliwassa Pathnadabutr, managing director of CBRE Thailand said: “Generally the best performing projects have been those closest to transit stations. In some areas the one bedroom sector is going to come under pressure from developers unsold inventory and shadow inventory from units bought by speculative buyers who want to resell before completion.” Prices of middle and entry level condominiums have slightly increased but to a far lesser degree than that of the high-end residential market, said the report. “There continues to be new launches in this sector although the absorption rate is slower compared to two years ago when many projects tended to sell out at launch. “The top developers dominate this segment of the market,” said Pathnadabutr when reflecting upon the motion of the market, over the last three months. The firm expects developers to give top priority to a project’s location. The skill will be in striking a balance between lucrative locations with land site purchase prices where condominiums can be constructed and marketed within the buyers maximum budget price range. “The choice will be either to buy cheaper land away from mass transit stations or to reduce the size of units as they try to balance affordability with usability,” said Pathnadabutr. The report concluded that more and more people are welcoming and accepting condominium living in Bangkok and that demand remained strong, particularly in areas near transit stations and in densely populated areas where supply is restricted, reported Homes Go Fast.

Is China’s Economy Headed for Slowdown? B EIJING – As the United States and Europe work to recover from their own economic crises, China has been one of the world’s bright spots. But recent figures show that the country’s fast economic growth is slowing. Days ago, Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao signaled that the country’s top leadership is concerned about an impending economic slowdown. He urged the government to implement policies to offset the “huge downward pressure” on the Chinese economy. His comments foreshadowed China’s second quarter growth figures for this year, which were announced Friday by National Bureau of Statistics spokesman Sheng Laiyun. Sheng says China’s economy grew by 7.8 percent for the first half of this year. Meanwhile, he says the economic growth rate for the second quarter of this year slowed from 8.1 percent in the first quarter to 7.6 percent.
China GDP Growth, 2007-2012
acknowledges that this is the first time in He three years that China’s GDP growth rate has dipped below eight percent, but adds he does not think it is a bad thing. According to Sheng, people should not only focus on the numbers, but also take into account unspecified domestic and external factors. From this perspective, he says China’s economy has maintained what he described as steady growth. Song Hong, a trade expert at the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, says the pressure the Chinese premier was talking about is partially due to China’s diminished trade figures, which he blames on European debt woes and the 2011 Japanese earthquake. At the same time, he says he thinks domestic demand in China will continue to increase and will help pull the whole economy up.Song says the demand for things like oil and cars is still increasing rapidly, and that Chinese consumer demand will be, “faster than any government stimulus measures to increase imports”. The latest growth figures are China’s lowest since the 2008 global financial crisis, but they are still higher than the official annual target of 7.5 percent. Stephen Green, of Standard Chartered Bank, says he thinks the Chinese government has been taking short-term steps to try to avoid a hard economic landing.“These kinds of measures - cutting interest rates, doing infrastructure spending, more money
in infrastructure - should help to stabilize the economy,” noted Green. “And we think by sometime around August, September, we will be seeing clearer signs that the economy is stabilized and is beginning to grow faster.” He adds, though, that the Chinese economy needs to undergo more extensive reforms if it wants stronger and more sustainable growth. He says one major challenge will be reducing the presence of state-owned companies in industries across the board - including transportation, finance and health care. “It’s like opening a door to a room, inviting the private sector to come in, and then seeing that these enormous elephants are in that room and there is no way to actually come in, because big state companies are actually dominating these sectors,” Green said. “So what we would love to see is more aggressive moves - I personally think that if you are really serious about the private sector being involved in rail, or roads, or hospitals, you are going to have to see the state sector start selling some assets to create some space for the private sector to get involved.” China’s government has noted international concerns over its economic slowdown, but is not alarmed. Earlier this week, Foreign Ministry spokesman Liu Weimin said some estimates are positive and some are negative, but not all are accurate. Liu adds that the Chinese government will always implement macroeconomic policy coordination and regulations according to the actual conditions for the economy. He also hinted that the slowing is deliberate. He said these days, when it comes to the Chinese economy; the government is “now putting more emphasis on quality, rather than quantity.”
Eurozone in trouble..? I
Q & A
n 2009 it was already said: Greece is bankrupt. Then German politicians criticized us for being irresponsible and unsettling Germans savers. But for us, it was a mathematical certainty: Greece does not have a business model to survive within the eurozone. Nothing has changed. It is clear that sooner or later, Greece will have to leave the eurozone. The alternative is that strong economies such as Finland, Germany, the Netherlands and Austria agree to permanently support this hopeless case. Does Germany even need the euro? If the Greeks give up, Portugal, Spain and others might also exit the eurozone, which might eventually dissolve. The euro in its present form can not survive. Either weaker countries will leave - Portugal, Greece, possibly Spain and Italy - or we must leave. We believe the former is the more likely option. We are not convinced Germany benefits greatly from the euro. We also do not believe our economy will founder if the euro disappears. Of course there will be an appreciation of a new German currency. For a while, we will have to burden the German export industry. But Germany is more than the sum of its exports. Germany also has citizens who save money and their buying power should be heard just as loudly in the discussion as the permanent hymns of praise to the export industry. If you want to export goods, you need buyers.
The debt landslide is heading not only to Europe, but to the US, Japan and other parts of the world as well. That is true. The conclusion should be close scrutiny of the German business model. Is it a good idea to live off an export industry whose goods are shipped all over the world and where payments are often made on paper only. Germany must also consider whether a policy of stimulating domestic demand shouldn’t be a long term element in the political strategy. Where debt is concerned, the old economies - apart from many Eurozone member states, they include Britain, the US and Japan - have problems the same as we do. In the long run, these old economies will no longer be able to buy our goods to the same extent as before. Other economies will fill the gap. A look at German exports to the Eurozone since the introduction of the euro shows a clear decline. But apparently, based on quality - and despite high prices - Germany manages to find buyers for its products in emerging markets. Philipp Vorndran is a capital market strategist with the renowned Cologne portfolio management firm Flossbach von Storch. The business economist previously held the position of chief strategist for global asset management at Credit Suisse; he also worked for the Swiss private bank Julius Bär and the University of Würzburg. Vorndran is the author of “The debt avalanche”. In his book, he explains why only inflation can resolve the debt crisis in Europe.

Singaporean developers directtheir focus to selling off unsold properties
ingaporean property developers have turned their focus towards clearing off unsold units from their earlier launches after launching fewer new projects during the June school holidays, it was reported by Channel Asia News yesterday. Around 7,234 new private homes were still unsold last month, down by around 2 percent from May. The units seem to be complete bargains in comparison to the price of newer launches since they were launched at prices before the recent rise in property prices, according to some market watchers. In order to lure in both foreign and local buyers, some developers may offer bulk discounts, some analysts have said. Reflections at Keppel Bay, A Treasure Trove, Interlace, and D’leedon are just some of the developments offering a large number of units. These properties all have a large portion of their units unsold, based on caveats that have been lodged. According to analysts, most of the buyers purchasing these developments are foreigners, but due to the Additional Buyers’ Stamp Duty (ABSD) many have recently shied away from purchases. The head of research at Savills Singapore, Alan Cheong, explained that in Q1 of 2012, there were no purchases made by foreigners in districts 1 and 2. “But in the second quarter of this year, the foreign content as a percentage of total purchases is almost back to second-quarter last year, meaning the foreigners have probably
T

shied away from the market in the first quarter. They are still mainly the Indonesians and the Malaysians,” he said. There is optimistic speculation however, that foreign buyers could start to spend more money on properties in Singapore. Such a comeback is hoped to occur due to the softening of property prices in prime areas. Prices of residential properties have eased by approximately 0.6 percent, according to the latest price data released by the Urban Redevelopment Authority, who went on to add that the occurrence of recent high profile transactions may be indicative of the fact that some institutional buyers are once again becoming active.
IPD Pan Asia Return Research Reveal Results
he local currency return for Asian commercial property investment was 8.4 per cent in 2011, reported the IPD Pan Asia Return Research (PARR).Year-on-year, this was an improvement than the rate of 6.6 per cent in 2010.The Pan Asia 2011 return combines an income return of 5.6 per cent with a capital growth of 2.7 per cent. IPD have conducted their largest sample of Asia investment property, to date. Research was sponsored by Invesco Real Estate and J P Morgan and included China, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Japan, Korea, Malaysia, Singapore, Taiwan, and Thailand. The largest sample of Asia investment property and includes assets worth US$244.3 billion – a growth of 20 per cent, year-on-year.The annual research increases transparency, promotes better governance, and aids improvements in best practices across local property markets throughout Asia. Dr Kevin Swaddle, managing director of IPD Asia said: “While most of Asia’s property investment markets improved a little last year, the Chinese markets soared with a return of 18 per cent. Still, there was a wide range of returns included in the 2011 Pan Asia composite, from a high of 22.3 per cent for Hong Kong to 3.4 per cent for Japan. The continuing poor performance in Japanese property, the largest segment of the index, will be of little surprise to investors. “Some of the markets are up on last year, and a few down. But the key finding is that the top three markets are all influenced by China: Hong Kong, the Mainland itself and Taiwan.” Thomas Au, director, head of Asia Real Estate Research at Invesco Real Estate Asia said: “The solid performance reflects strong fundamentals of the APAC market. The wide range of returns across different markets and
sectors suggest that there are many different opportunities available for investors in this region.”Presently, Asia returns yield higher than those in Europe. “Values in Asia, and their continuing growth, are in doubt, but the previously stable income holds of Europe offer little better risk aversion potential. The US is still seeing strong doubledigit returns, but this is not expected to continue next year. In the current global market it is becoming more and more difficult to find safe havens,” said Dr Swaddle. The weighted local currency Pan Asia return, over the previous five years was 6.2 per cent per year – combining an annual income return of 5.3 per cent and an annual capital return of 0.9 per cent.Hong Kong rated consistently top with
an annualised return of 16 per cent, per year. Japan had the lowest return at 1.6 per cent, per year. Both countries have occupied the top and bottom positions, over two, three and four years annualised. Significantly ahead of office returns, retail property had an annualised return of 8.5 per cent over the five-year span. Office returns achieved 5.9 per cent.David Chen, managing director, Head of Global Real Assets – Asia at J.P. Morgan Asset Management said: “The data illustrates why we believe the property markets offer attractive opportunities to harness the growth in Asia.”The research will be announced throughout global events in: Tokyo, Seoul, London, Shanghai, Hong Kong, Kuala Lumpur, and Singapore.

Hua Hin Triathlon 2012 By Supansa
The 4th International Hua Hin Triathlon Championship 2012 is coming back on 19 August 2012 at a local fishermen village by the Khao Tao beach and at the Khao Tao reservoir, 10 kilometers southwards from Hua Hin. Ltd., Tourism Authority of Thailand and Hotel Business Association of Thailand among others, this year’s event is celebrating the birthday anniversary of Queen Sirikit who wishes to see promotion and development of sports in Thailand. r.Santi Bhirombhakdi, a.k.a. ‘Big Boss’ of Boonrawd Brewery Public Co. Ltd., attended the 4th Santi Buri Tournament at the Hua Hin Royal Golf Course on July 2012, leading his team for the Pro-Golfer Trophy. With an aim to enhance unity of all staff at Boonrawd Brewery, the golf tournament, chaired by Mr. Santi, has 100 participating golfers, 10 of whom belong to 1 team, namely Santi Buri from Boonrawd’s Head Office in Bangkok, Santi Buri Golf Resort and Spa, Bo Phad Resort and Spa, Santi Buri Samui Country Club, Santi Buri Country Club from Chiang Rai, and Santi Buri Development and Resort from Khon Kaen, among others. Awards are categorized into a Pro-Golf trophy, an A-Flight trophy, a B-Flight trophy, a C-Flight trophy and a Senior Flight trophy apart from prizes for distant flight hit from Par 5 and short flight hit from Par 3. The morning session saw a music parade performance from students of Nong Phlab Witthaya School led by Mr. Jongrak Jantawong as an opening. The game then started until 5 pm. with showering rain. After that, an awarding ceremony was held together with a dinner banquet. The Pro-Golf trophy went to Singha Park from Khon Kaen; the A-Flight trophy to Mr. Phiraphon Namat, Mr. Arthorn
Jaturongsaeng and Mr. Chusak Phermphol; the B-Flight trophy to Mr. Phanu Anambut, Mr. Somkiat Phenmun and Mr. Piyapat Sukkanta; the C-Flight trophy to Mr. Buraporn Terngwiset, Mr. Adul Sinsuwin and Mr. Surathon Thiemrit. Pol. Sub-Lt. Sakulnoi Samsen and Mr. Pramot Orachon were awarded the Senior Flight trophy. Mr. Santi said that the Santi Buri Golf Tournament was organized in many parts of Thailand, not only Hua Hin. It also takes place in Chiang Rai, Samui and Khon Kaen. Its main objective is to enable golfers to get familiar with playing golf at different golf courses in the country and master their skill because playing golf needs a lot of practice and techniques, namely how to do short and long flight hits or how to make a shot from a green to a hole. Therefore, experience of playing golf at various places is very important. Moreover, this event can strengthen friendship and unity among staff and executive personnel in relaxing atmosphere. The Big Boss of Boonrawd Brewery was also pleased that more young people like to play golf as they joined all the participating teams at the tournament. Finally, he congratulated the Singha Park Khon Kaen for winning the highest award.

Kids & Health
International Education
Expat families have various international education options at their disposal. If you bring your children along when moving abroad, a big part of helping them adjust to their new home is the school they will attend. InterNations gives you an overview of the different schooling options for expat kids about to receive an international education. Many parents measure the quality of their children’s international education by their own personal standards. However, different schooling options for international education may differ widely from what parents are aware of.For expat parents and children, there are many international education options to choose from. Apart from the many local schools, bigger cities with a large expat community also have international schools or foreign national schools that follow a country-specific curriculum with international elements. However, not every type of school is suitable for every child, so be sure to choose your child’s international education wisely. International Education: Essential Aspects to Consider
25
Before parents decide whether to place their child in a local school, an international school or even a boarding school at home, there are different aspects of international education to consider. For instance, the ideal type of international education depends largely on the duration of the parents’ stay abroad and on the child’s language skills.A longterm assignment may require the child’s international education to include learning the local language. When expat kids reach a certain age, they might need the help of a tutor or language teacher. Younger children, however, often need very little help to pick up a foreign language.Of course, the international education of expat children also depends on the available schooling options as well as their parent’s budget. Private and boarding schools can be extremely expensive and many not be affordable to everyone. It is important to choose the type of international education which caters to children’s intellectual and cognitive needs and
help them thrive in an academic environment. Some children may have extra physical needs as well. Local or public schools often do not offer all the support and facilities necessary for these children. Parents should make sure that their school of choice fulfills all their requirements to offer their children the best possible international education. International Education and Local Schools In local schools, both private and public, the language of instruction is that of the host country. Parents should be prepared for a much different curriculum than what they
are used to. For younger children in particular, there may be no other choice of international education. Some private schools may offer instruction in the local language to foreign students, as well as international curricula or diplomas. The quality of the international education varies from country to country. P arents with older children should be especially cautious. It may it be harder for these students to be accepted and keep track academically due to the language barrier. Moreover, academic qualifications are not necessarily transferable, and children may struggle to have their international education recognized for admission to college/university later on.For younger children however, an international education at a local school may be the right and, in some cases, the only, choice. At an age when they pick up a language relatively quickly, it is often easier for children to immerse themselves in a foreign culture when they are surrounded
all we be well, the platitudes of recovery just bounce off the wall of my healing heart digging away at the shallow reassurance that wisdom comes from pain and experience you have gained. I feel cold, empty, drained, abandoned, betrayed, daggers of ice shoving their way into the depth of my soul. All this will pass, they all say, but the dark teal clouds that are rolling towards me, purple like the bruise of a profound stabbing to the heart, followed by black and only a glimmer of light in the very distant moon that dances in a playful teasing way. The world where I used to feel happy and accomplished is now running in a parallel universe to me, like a separate path on the other side of a very large and never-ending ravine. Colored by the reality that the woman, I once loved and
called my wife for years is living a new life of passion, kisses and dreams with a man she may love for another 10 years or 10 months, merely a-month after leaving me. Here I am, sadly living the grey life of misery, silently suffering from the absence of my children taken away from me, and being imposed a new man in their lives. The gods have other plans for her I say to myself, but the love I felt once refuses to let me hate. That same world, where I used to question, the tiny moments of my life, as if I were icing, a cake and making it into a masterpiece, was now shattering under my feet, visions of hell appearing thru the broken grounds. We had everything, everything sweet and light; at least that’s what I thought. Very little did I know, she had meticulously planned Her divorce, to the last detail for months if not years. Lies and deception were now words I knew well enough and feared. Still cuddled in my bed, looking sadly out of the window, I am laying in despair waiting for death to put an end to my misery, my head is aching, a reminder of a heavy night drinking.I close my eyes and consume the memories of my past life in a panic, as if they will dissolve and disappear if I take my attention off of them for a couple of aspirins. I feel heavy, overweight with grief. My life is a contradiction between the world of life that I know must be courageously
declared and the inner pain of defeat and withdrawal that shouts priority. I hate my life! And so each day, one step after the other, I drag and kick myself to move forward. My heart is breaking. My head is hollow. I try to go on each day, I get dressed and the memories of beaches and kids come jumping at me. My mind is empty of depth; I skim the surface, afraid to go towards the center of my grief. I circle it like a person gazing at a dead body, carefully waiting for it to jump back into life. I want to puke. I shall go back in time and erase all the hurtful words, dilute the pain with the wisdom of time and understanding. I see it all so clearly now but it’s just too late, she’s gone, their missing, my heart is in pieces, my life to an end, I am walking the endless path of loneliness as a convicted murderer walking his last mile in the corridor of death. I feel no more. I have gained so much wisdom but at such a price, and all these sacrifices, all this pain… They say, all things will pass and of course this is true! Each day, the memories of my children remind me that once I had a family, I was happy, but it’s not the end of the world, I am still a father and nothing in the world will take my children away from me, even if distance is an issue, age a factor and language an obstacle, I will fight to remain a father in their eyes. It’s not the end of the world, just the beginning of a new life!
MOVING FORWARD ALONE
By Jack Mairoo – Writer at large
“I feel so alone”
– never in a million years, would have I, had the thought that one day I would say this sentence out loud here, in Thailand. It’s been less than a year that my wife and kids have left. Years of love, the moments of joy crash upon the shore of my definition of who I am. But who am I, by the way? Huddled in my bed, my energy is fueled by my fear of a cold void. Memory flashes of once a happy life, every single day, every single minute, every single second tattooed in my mind pound inside my head, like the sound of the water lapping on the shore. For me, the nights are the worst. Sometimes, I just lie there, and it’s like somebody’s piling dirt on my coffin. I can’t wait for daytime so I can get up again and chase away those feelings and images haunting me. I’m exhausted, but at least I’m not alone in the dark. Sometimes, I wake up and try to remember how I used to feel, back when life had a shape, love had a focus, dreams a reality. I try to remember the feeling of my skin being touched, my heart being ignited like a fire, the electricity of a kiss, kids climbing in bed and squeezing themselves against my body, suddenly, I feel the pain rising to the surface and I sob bitter tears of regrets, strong ,waves of shuddering emotion pulverize my shaking heart as I try to be a warrior in the face of negation. The wind is blue, dark and wet, and despite the knowledge that all this will pass,
Encouraging news about vaccination against Dengue fever
D
engue fever is a viral illness that infects many people in Thailand every year. It is a very debilitating disease and leads to many patients being hospitalized. It is a particularly vicious disease in children and each year there are fatalities in this age group. It usually starts as a ‘flu like’ illness and is often associated with severe muscular pain. The old name for the disease was “Breakbone fever” It can have cause abnormalities in the blood and can interfere with the body’s clotting mechanism. It is an interesting disease—there are four types of virus and infection by one virus, with subsequent antibody response does not confer protection against the other three. In fact if you should be infected by a second virus the body’s immune response may be delayed and weak. For several years work has progressed on developing vaccine; some of the work has been performed in Thailand. A vaccine has now been developed and is being tested by the Sanofi Company. One of the concerns about any new vaccine is that it will cause the very disease that it is trying to prevent. The results of the first tests came in some time ago and it was found
that this does NOT happen and that no serious side-effects were found. The latest report on its effectiveness has been released and is very encouraging. It has been found that vaccination with this new product confers protection against three out of the four types of virus. It is not clear why the fourth virus is causing a problem and this being investigated. Further larger trials have been started and the Sanofi company feel that the vaccine will be available in 2014 or 20015. Dr Michael Moreton
A kindergarten pupil told his teacher he’d found a cat, but it was dead. “How do you know that the cat was dead?” she asked her pupil. “Because I pissed in its ear and it didn’t move,” answered the child innocently. “You did WHAT?! ?” the teacher exclaimed in surprise. “You know,” explained the boy, “I leaned over and went ‘Pssst!’ and it didn’t move.”

The Devarana Experience Chiva-Som at Dusit Thani Stress Release Therapy
By GMoss
F
S
tanding on it’s own, the Devarana Spa resembles an ancient Thai or even Roman Spa amidst green pastures surrounded by a lush tropical setting of trees and bushes. The entrance hall definitely has Roman appearance.Upon entering I was greeted in perfect English by three lovely Spa attendants, seated and served a refreshing Rosella drink. Khun Bud, the Spa manager explained the Spa menue, analyzed my preferences and was able to convince me that their signature treatment with precious oils
was the best for me, concentrating also on small details of my well-being. She was right! The 90 minute Devarana signature treatment concentrates on Eastern, Western and Thai methods, both in the oils used and massage therapy. A mixture of Thai, Ayurveda, Shiatsu ands Swedish massages techniques with a balanced Aromatherapy. With an initial releasing of pelvis tensions by softly rocking the body face down, hot towels are placed on the back, neck and pelvis to soften the muscles and awaken the spinal energies. The precious oils are applied to the massage area and soon a stretching massage starting at the spine will release energy from the joints and energy pathways. It is a most relaxing therapy and I had a problem staying awake to enjoy this feast of body massage. The Devarana Spa has treatment rooms in the main building and separate treatment Villas for couples outside. All, of course equipped with
requent use of a personal computer and sitting at your desk for extended periods of time can cause chronic physical problems that you can hardly imagine. More and more people are suffering from neck pain, backaches, headaches, eye strain, carpel tunnel syndrome and many other repetitive strain injuries (RSI) to the spine from sedentary office work. Ms. Wantanee Danjareanrak, the Physiotherapy Manager at Chiva-Som, found that a high percentage of guests suffer from structural problems related to the physical stress of sitting incorrectly at their desks. “We can see how repetitive activity exceeds the muscle’s recovery time and strains the muscle, and then affects the muscular balance and joint stability,” says Wantanee. When a joint becomes unstable, the articulating bones move against one another in a compromised way. This may mean that the motion is restricted; wearing one part of the joint cartilage more or the instability could allow the joint to move in abnormal vectors causing the joint surface to wear prematurely. These are the symptoms found from people who frequently use personal computers. They might feel tightness, discomfort, stiffness, soreness or burning in the hands, wrists, fingers, forearms, or elbows or sometimes pain in the upper back, shoulders or neck, associated with extensive computer usage, thereby feeling a need to massage your upper body.

These simple stretching exercises should be done every hour or when you feel tension in your upper body.Take frequent mouse breaks. Do not grip the mouse tightly and stretch your arms periodically. Stand up and keep your stretched arm at shoulder level. Turn your palm down and gently pull with your other hand to stretch the front of the arm and wrist. Count to 10 and
alternate stretching each arm twice. Stand up and place your right hand on your head and place your other hand behind your back with you palm facing out. Then pull your head down to the right side until you feel stretching in your neck. Hold for 30 seconds and repeat with the left side, alternating two times each. Stand facing the corner with your hands on the walls. Lean forward into the corner and feel the stretch between the top of your shoulder blades. Hold for 30 seconds and repeat at least once.
While sitting at your desk, your posture should be upright with your legs positioned comfortably, feet should be flat on the floor or on a footrest. The small of your lower back should be supported with an adjustable lumbar support, wrists should be in a neutral position for typing or using the mouse and not overly flexed or extended. A desktop wrist support device can keep your hands in the neutral position and the angle of your elbows should be 90 degrees relative to the upper arms. Your elbows should be close to the side of the body so you don’t bend your wrists to the side when typing. Change your position every so often by moving around in the chair and take 5-minute walks around the office to help you use different muscles whilst relaxing the others, and improve blood circulation. Practice deep breathing and stretch your arms, upper and lower back and hamstrings as you walk. Chiva-Som International Health Resort, Hua Hin, Thailand. www.chivasom.com

Legal Advice
Marriage in Thailand
arriage in Thailand by non-Thai couples or Thai National and foreigner couple is easy to arrange and can be quickly accomplished. The legal marriage registration can be done at any district office in Thailand on any working day between 8am and 3pm.To marry you need passports and proof that you are single. If you have previously been married which ended in divorce or death you need the original certificates. If never been married you need to show the Ministry of Foreign Affairs a statutory statement of non-attachment notarized by your embassy in Bangkok. Your Embassy may require proof of evidence to this fact. A statutory statement required by the Thai authorities will cost 1,000 Thai Baht each (US$25). Your embassy will normally charge a fee for notarizing it and the Thai Ministry of Foreign Affairs makes a nominal charge for registering it and issuing a certificate to enable you to legally marry anywhere in Thailand. A further fee will be required to have the document officially translated into Thai. Special attention should be made about pre marriage planning. Assets of the foreigner should be protected. A prenuptial agreement is highly recommended and should be made before marriage. Prenuptial Agreements should be prepared in both the Thai and English languages. If, for example, the foreigner is a US Citizen with assets in USA and Thailand, the prenuptial agreement should be prepared in such a manner that it is recognized and legally binding in both USA and Thailand. Prenuptial Agreements are less likely to be contested when prepared and signed well in advance of the marriage date. To marry you need passports and proof that you are single. Wine & Dine
Famille Castel @ Siam Winery
By A. Lindstrand
F
irstly, I must say congratulations to Mr. Daniel Schwalb, Director of Marketing & Sales of Famille Castel (wine tasting party) at Market Village Hua Hin with great taste and great presentation.
Wine tasting (often, simply tasting) is the sensory examination and evaluation of wine. While the practice of wine tasting is as ancient as its production, a more formalized methodology has slowly become established from the 14th century onwards. Modern, professional wine tasters use a constantly evolving formal terminology which is used to describe the range of perceived flavors, aromas and general characteristics of a wine. More informal, recreational tasting may use similar terminology, usually involving a much less analytical process for a more general, personal appreciation. Well, as the comparison of wine
tasting that evening were come from France. This is amazing experiences when you tasted wine and you have someone that knows about wine’s overall quality assessment as Khun. Surachet (Hua Hin Hills Wine Ambassador) recommended. So., whenever you’re looking for the place of good wine to spend on your holiday, hand to Siam Winery. Well., they will recommend a good one for you. (Surely! ) Tasting flight is a term Distressed by wine tasters to describe a selection of wines, Usually between three and eight glasses, However this time we were tasted eight glasses (As I remember right! ) presented for the purpose of sampling and comparison as the quality taste of an intense and fruity flavored wines from France.
For next examination please contact Hua Hin Hills Wine Cellar by Siam Winery at 1st floor, Market Village-Outdoor zone 234/1 Phet kasem Rd., Hua Hin, Prachuap khiri Khan Tel: 032-526 351 or visit the website www. huahinhillswinecellar.com

The Culinary Dusit Thani Experience An Evening at The San Marco Restaurant
D
id not know exactly what to expect but when asked to spend some time at the fabulous Dusit Thani Resort between Hua Hin and Cha Am I was in for a surprise. Every Wednesday evening, a special Italian Buffet is served at the San Marco Restaurant on the ground floor of the Dusit Thani Resort. Named after the San Marco Piazza in Venice, this restaurant pays homage to this captivating destination.
Quote : One well-known guidebook on Venice describes the Piazza San Marco as “beautiful at all times of day or night and in all seasons of the year. It is one of the few delicate works of architecture that can absorb a bustling vulgar crowd without loss of dignity; a great city square which retains a feeling of animation when there are few people in it.” Perhaps the same can be said of the San Marco Italian Restaurant inspired by Venice’s leading landmark – though of course in no way wish that any of our guests could ever be classed as vulgar! On Wednesdays the restaurant is decorated with the red, white and green colours of the Italian flag. The chef displays his talent with the ever-popular Pasta Factory Buffet. which consistently, also, draws in guests from far and wide. At an amazing value of Baht 950 ++per person, kids from 6 – 12 pay half price, under that age, free. This is a real culinary delight and simply said, “ Bargain”. For THB 1,400++, a additional free flow of red or white wine and beer, soft drinks for the under aged, is yours. As you enter, the buffet is clearly covered with a traditional Mediterranean favourites menu. I like the Dusit Thani saying : “ Using the gifts of heaven to create heaven on earth”. It is all so true.
Italian food is among the most diversitive and broad range of culinary delights available on our planet. Stretching more than 2000 KM from North to South you will find a most fulfilled menue of gourmatics for everyone´s taste buds. The Pasta Factory Buffet starts off with a combination of salads based on Julius Ceasar´s prime choice. You are challenged to combine your own creation. Complimenting the salad is a vast selection of pastry and bread. No Italian food without bread. The Beef broth offered did not impress me, but then who comes to Italy for a beef broth? Minestrone is a different story. At the Primo Piatto ( starters) buffet, the usual marinated Bell Peppers, Egg Plants, Tomatoes, Olives, Prosciutto, Cheeses, you name it, are displayed for your picking. As these delicious starters are a bit oily with healthy virgin olive oil, you should proceed cautiously not to over-eat before you indulge in the main courses, deliberately pluralized to indicate the
wide spread compositions of the responsible Chefs. Go back for the cheese after the main course is the recommendation. A must is the Carpaccio of salmon with fresh rocket salad and caramelized pearls of pear with raspberry vinegar and the Stuffed shiitake mushroom with gorgonzola cheese, on salad tossed in honey-mustard and balsamic dressing. The main Courses, Secondo Piatto, consisted of turf and surf creations practically following the mountain region along the Mediterranean coast line all the way down to Reggio di Calabria and Sicily. Among others, “I tried everything”, outstanding was the Osso Bucco, Venison and Baked cod fish on mashed potato and vegetable pearls, with lemon-andbutter sauce, the oven baked Quail halves stuffed with a risotto secret and King Prawns in a delicious
Saffron cream sauce. On request, Chef will fix yu a Pasta of your choice, long, short, round, flat, or a Pizza freshly made in the wood fired oven, right there in the restaurant. There were much more taste bud patting dishes, but as I had to make a choice. No way to convince myself to skip the dessert buffet, Tiramisu, Limoncello Vanilla Cream, Chocolate Mousse and a selction of Italian ice creams and sorbets. I settled for a limoncello cream, returning to the cheese table afterwards. All this went down with a Cabernet Sauvignon red wine, rounded off with a “digestivo” of Fernet Branca or simply a limoncello? Grappa anyone? This Wednesday event is highly recommendable and highly affordable, moreover highly delicious.Wise to make a reservation in advance as the buffet is highly populated. As Arnold said “ I will be back !” Open daily for dinner from 6.00 – 10.30P.M. Saturday and Sunday also for lunch from Midday – 2.30P.M.Wednesdays - The Pasta Factory Buffet. For reservation please call 032 442 100 e-mail dthh@dusit.com Aree Restaurant – a must for French aficionados for deliciously prepared French Home cooking in a cute little place right on Soi 94 opposite Vista Suay Club, a short distance away from the new Noi Restaurant. Madame Aree cooks personally and within 10 minutes she turns out a Ratatouille or any French dish you desire. Of course she can also make other Western dishes such as steaks and schnitzels with Chips, mashed potatoes or simply boiled potatoes.

Last year, over 35,000 tourists came of the event and visitors can enjoy various to join the event. One reason for this is activities there. that the organizers maintain good quality The main reason why this event is held during the rainy season of Thailand is because it is the good time when a lot of squids can be easily found and caught. Moreover, many birds are migrating from the north to stay here. Phetchaburi-Prachuap Traditional Football Match Starts in the Rain
O
n 4 July the District Chief of ChaAm Mr. Pramote Sampao-ngern presided over the 18th PhetchaburiPrachuap Khirikhan Traditional Football Match at the Rama VI Military Base’s field in Cha-Am. On this occasion, the Chairman of Cha-Am/Hua Hin Tourism Business Association Dr. Rungrot Sileungsawas delivered welcoming speech. This year’s football match consists of 17 teams of hoteliers and hotel staff in Phetchaburi and Prachuap Khirikhan. It was hosted by Mr. Krip Rojanasathien, the managing director of Chiva-Som. The opening ceremony highlighted a beautiful procession that campaigned on anti-pollution and promoted reforestation as well as reduction of use of toxic materials. Since the concept of this year’s event concerned environmental protection against global warming, during the opening ceremony, the rain kept showering from welcoming speech to the procession. After the opening, a friendship football match between the media group, including staff of Thai Channels 3, 7 and Siam Sport Newspaper, and the hoteliers from Phetchaburi and Prachuab Khirikhan began. The match was very exciting and both teams tied with the score 1:1. The highlight of the match was the one between the Chiva-Som team and Evason team as both played very hard and
actively, especially during the first half of the match in which the Chiva-Som scored 2:0 with 2 fouls. The second half saw Evason played hard to no avail because the vanguard and center missed the target twice and ended up kicking a ball into their own goal. So, Chiva-Som beat Evason with the score of 3:0. The traditional football match is still going on from Monday to Thursday until 5 August. There will be 2 matches daily. The winner of the final round will be awarded a trophy and some cash. The awarding ceremony, chaired by the Phetchaburi and Prachuap Khirikhan Governors, is taking place at Hua Hin Grand Hotel. According to Mr. Krip, the traditional football match symbolizes strong cooperation and unity of hoteliers and hotel staff of Hua Hin. The reason why it was held in the low season is because hotel staff is very busy during the high season and this time of year sees less work than other periods. Moreover, football is the sport that strengthens relations of all hotel staff and can be used as an anti-drug campaign for adolescents, too. Mr.Krip added that the hoteliers and hotel staff in Hua Hin were
highly concerned with the current global warming and environmental crises in the city. Now, they are working to bring back the greenscape with cooperation of local governmental agencies by initiating environmental campaigns and activities as well as this football match. “If Phetchaburi and Prachuap have good environment, it will become an ideal place to live and stay for local people and tourists,” concluded Mr. Krip. Images of the Event Mr. Wasan Kittikul, Chairman of Hotel Association in Western Thailand. 1.Mr. Pramote Sampaongern, Cha-Am District Chief, delivered an opening speech. 2.Dr. Rungrot Sileungsawas delivered his welcoming speech. 3.Parade of Hua Hin/Cha-Am hoteliers and hotel staff entering into the field of Rama VI Military Base, Cha-Am. 4.Mr. Krip Rojanasathien, the host of the event, gave a bouquet to the media and hotel staff footballers.

Shell-Made Souvenirs from Cha-Am
O
n 10 July 2012 at 4 p.m., HRH Princess Chulabhorn Walailak visited the head office of Saphan Hin Community in Cha-Am to admire shel-made souvenirs of the housewife group from Saphan Hin, Nong Jaeng, Saha Kham and Baan Paak Khlong Communities. According to Mr. Winai Buapradit, the Phetchaburi Governor who gave the Princess a warm welcome, the Saphan Hin Community, established on 16 October 2005, has 747 people with Ms. Phannapa Hommeun as the Community’s leader. After the Cholprathan Cement Pub. Co. Ltd. Got concession of cement manufacturing in Khao Yai, a canal was dug and a stone-made bridge was built to serve as a route for cement transportation via the sea. Around the industrial area are dormitories of the Cholprathan Cement’s staff and local people. Since most of the people live their life as fishermen, after catching some fish, there are a lot of seas shells which the local women of
Saphan Hin Community use to make some souvenirs. In 2006, the Cha-Am Municipality officially established the local women who make and sell the handicrafts as the Saphan Hin Housewife Group. Consisting of 16 members, the Saphan Hin Housewife Group cooperates with the women from Nong Jaeng, Saha Kham and Baan Paak Khlong to make and sell shell-made souvenirs. Most of the products are reasonably priced and serve the need of Thai visitors. Now, the group is creating more items to attract foreigners, too. The visit of HRH Princess Chulabhorn has made all the local people including the Sapahn Hin Housewife overwhelmingly happy and grateful because the Princess also learned how to make some souvenirs from sea shells and took pictures with the local people. Before leaving the Saphan Hin Community, HRH Princess Chalabhorn also donated some money to fund the work of the housewife group.
