D-DAY 1 OCTOBER - HUA HIN PLANS TO WELCOME FOREIGN TOURISTS WITHOUT QUARANTINE T

he National Tourism Policy Committee, (TTC), agreed at its meeting No. 2/2021, to relax visitor restrictions in several areas including Prachuap Khiri Khan, Phetchaburi, Bangkok and Buriram. These will be the pilot areas that will open for those foreign tourists that have been vaccinated and can show a vaccine certificate, without the need for quarantine. As Hua Hin is a tourist destination, Covid-19 vaccine allocations have been given priority, and Hua Hin Municipality has been designated a pilot area that welcomes fully vaccinated foreign tourists to travel to the area without quarantine from October 1st onwards. In the Hua Hin district, the Oxford Astra Zeneca brand will be the designated vaccine, initially given to people aged 60 years and over, and all people diagnosed with 7 chronic diseases who have registered through the Mor Prom system, a total of 26,000 people. All other local people aged 18-59, both Thai and non-Thai, can book their jabs through the Mor Prom system from 31st May onwards and it is anticipated their vaccinations should begin by August. The first vaccination program for the selected groups will operate from the 7th-11th June and be carried out by village health volunteers at various hospitals and pop-up centres. People are invited to attend to get their Covid-19 vaccination at specific locations as follows: Hua Hin Hospital, 10th floor meeting room, (yellow building), 10th floor meeting room, (orange parking building). Hua Hin Hospital 3. Hua Hin Hospital 4. Hua Hin Hospital 5. Market Village Shopping Centre. Bluport Shopping Centre. Throughout the rest of the province, three vaccination centres will be set up in Bang Sapahan, two each in Pranburi and Mueang Prachuap and one each in Kuiburi, Thap Sakae, Sam Roi Yot, and Bang Saphan Noi.

‘Hua Hin Recharge Project’ is collaboration in the Hua Hin municipality of tourism, hospital and public health sectors of government, and private businesses such as hotels, shops, restaurants, shopping malls, car rental operators, tour companies and others. The focus of the project is to get the vaccination program rolling in June 2021, and meet the target of 70% of the local population and 100% of the tourism service providers by 30th September 2021, this will hopefully achieve the required herd immunity and dramatically affect hospitalisation and deaths. Foreign residents can use their social security or passport number to register for the free vaccination, and no priority will be given to Thais over other Nationalities. Once registration has been completed, foreigners will be given an appointment date to receive their vaccine – this could be the same day as registration or at a later date, depending on what appointments are available. Due to the recent situation and the increased number of infections in the province from the cluster of entertainment venues and canned pineapple factories, Prachuap Province has taken intensive measures to control the spread of the disease. It now appears that due to the hard work of all relevant government departments and good cooperation from the people and entrepreneurs, the situation in Prachuap Province has improved and the infection spread has been brought under control. After vaccination people are advised to continue to follow preventive measures by keeping their distance, wearing masks and washing their hands.

HUA HIN TODAY HAS A NEW OFFICE

irst of all, I would like to inform you that the Hua Hin Today newspaper has moved to a new location, our own property to the West of the city. Yes it’s a bit further out but as you know the location does not affect the content of the newspaper at all, we will still provide the best newspaper in town for you to enjoy reading each and every month. You know where currently to find your newspaper, but if you would love to have the privilege and convenience you can subscribe yearly, no later than the 5th of every month, then you will receive your newspaper directly. The emergence of this new wave of Covid-19 is extremely severe for everyone, and we have all been thoroughly affected. There are many businesses that have been shut down, some temporarily, some never to reopen because they cannot survive, even those that are open are struggling as there are no tourists anyway. Hua Hin has suffered very heavy misfortune being hit by the outbreak of two large clusters, one in entertainment venues, the other at a canned pineapple plant. Entrepreneurs need to adapt their business plans to survive, but it is very gladdening that everyone holds on together, both the public and private sectors in planning the ‘Hua Hin recharge’ project, the project plan commits to providing urgent vaccination to 100% of tourism operators in order to welcome visitors with two doses of the vaccine to visit in October without quarantine. The vaccine is the best solution to ending these lockdowns and the best vaccine is the fastest vaccine you can get. It can be noted that our livelihoods have changed, from where in the past most businesses had to have an office to work, but since the coronavirus outbreak many more people are working at home. Despite misgivings it appears that working at home can still achieve 100% of the work without reducing the quality compared with working in an office. Yours truly, Ms Visa Chimdee (Editor-in-Chief)

Kind regards Richard Bright

Letter to Editor Dear Editor, I think people that are renting out there pool villas for parties should be a criminal offense. Its bad enough putting up with the loud music, now the chance of them spreading the virus, the owners are only interested in making money. There are 4 villas in my village that are renting out even now with this pandemic. Last weekend a bus with 15 adults and children arrived. After they leave no one comes to spray the property, they may not have the virus but who knows. I think the police should be touring around these villa estates especially at weekends.

MANAGEMENT Honorary Chairman: Dr Thanachai Theerapattanavong Chairwoman: kittikorn Theerapattanavong CEO: Titikorn Theerapattanavong CFO: Duangsuda Pirompin

Dear Richard The issue of so-called ‘party villas’ is an ongoing problem for some people in Hua Hin, particularly during the current pandemic. Under the current COVID-19 measures in Hua Hin, officials have asked people for their co-operation in not organising events, and even private parties, involving groups of people. We suspect you have already contacted the management at your village, but failing that you really should try contacting the Tourist Police in Hua Hin. You may be surprised at the assistance and help they can provide regarding a wide range of issues. They can be contacted by calling 1155 or via their Facebook page: https:// www.facebook.com/HuaHinTouristPolice/

Good luck!

RAISING THE STANDARDS IN FRESH MARKETS T

he government is determined to improve the standards in fresh markets, one of the worst offending areas of Covid-19 spread, with particular emphasis on the stalls selling eggs and meat. As Covid-19 continues to spread across the country the government is taking action to stamp out problems in one of the worst affected places, the fresh markets. Fresh markets are a hugely popular aspect of Thai life, and the government dearly wants this tradition to continue as it is a great place for those on the lowest incomes to source healthy fresh food at good prices. They are also places of great social importance to many elderly and otherwise lonely people. The Department of ivestock therefore visited all fresh markets throughout the country to assess the hygiene of meat and egg stalls in order to ensure they were trading safely and not risking infection of Covid-19. They were assessed according to, ivestock O tandards , and in accordance with D HTT principles, that merchants must have a safe distance from buyers, wear masks at all times, wash hands frequently with soapy water and alcohol gel, and must wear gloves and use tongs without directly handling the merchandise The entrance of all fresh markets must strictly check installation of the Thai Chana application or take written proof of visitation, any merchant under suspicion must take tests to check for the virus. All shops that follows the rules and has excellent quality and hygiene standards will receive a ivestock O tandard symbol attached in front of their store in order to build confidence among buyers. During the last month 1, 0 meat samples have been collected across the ed one from more than 00 Fresh arket stalls, convenience stores, modern trade malls, as well as more than 1, 00 slaughterhouses and cutting facilities, happily all meat samples were found to be free from Covid-19.

HUA HIN WATER - POOR FLOW RATE AND QUALITY ISSUES T

he water supply to the city is currently performing very badly, there have been numerous complaints that the water is turbid, (cloudy due to high content of particles, usually silt, clay, algae or pollution). Further complaints that water supply is brown, smells bad, and flows slowly, have prompted action to try to resolve the matter. The roduction Head of the aterworks Division informs, that the raw water received from the dam is being discharged from close to ground level and is not of the quality they would hope for, there is a smell of manganese which could be due to an accumulation of plant residues and animal remains in storage areas, this problem is exacerbated in very warm weather. Furthermore when water is brought into the production system and exposed to chemicals the chemical reaction causes the water to change its colour. The hao aeng ater Treatment lant, which is normally the main water production plant, has to produce more than double the capacity to meet the needs of water users in the summertime. When the production demand exceeds the ideal capacity the water filter production system is unable to fully remove the odour and more particles than desired can infiltrate into the water. Currently, there is a project to build an additional water plant, which will be able to significantly increase the production capacity and alleviate the pressure on the old water plant soon. The new plant is expected to be completed within 1 year, and hopefully will be able to solve all the problems of quality and adequate water pressure in the future.

USEFUL TIPS FOR

DRINKERS

Alcohol is commonly used by people to help them celebrate at a party or to drown their sorrows when they are feeling down. Alcohol has direct negative effects on the central nervous system, which is the system that controls our mind, motions and emotions, and influencing the way we act, it also has depressant effects and in excess can cause the imbiber to back out and collapse Drinking levels- Let’s see normal bodily reactions when it receives a certain amount of alcohol. • 30 milligrams - Feeling more relaxed and cheerful than usual, and reduced inhibitions • 50 milligrams - Difficulties seeing, impaired movement and reflexes • 100 milligrams - Nausea and vomiting, slurred speech, impaired balance, coordination, vision, reflexes, and judgment • 200 milligrams -Memory loss, feeling sad, and unstable emotions • 300 milligrams - Impaired vision, dizziness, possible loss of consciousness, difficulty breathing, and rapid/abnormal heart rate • 400 milligram - Complete loss of consciousness, blackout, and possible coma or death How every sip of alcohol affects our body? • Heart: Irregular heartbeat, heart palpitations, and risks for the heart to stop beating. Consuming alcohol continuously for many years may cause cardiomyopathy • Brain: Brain cells damage, weaken remembrance/dementia, decreased functionality of the overall nervous system, and risk of other brain-related conditions such as stroke • Liver: Steatosis or fatty liver. Some people may experience severe liver inflammations that cause cirrhosis • Stomach: Stomach pain, stomach irritation, vomiting blood if the inflammation is severe. People who drink large amounts of alcohol for a long time are at three times higher risks to have cancer than a person who doesn’t drink. • Kidneys: Overwork, which could lead to kidney failure • Bladder: Cystitis that may lead to cancer However, maybe unexpectedly alcohol does have its pros. An appropriate amount of alcohol intake could make you feel lively and relaxed while lower the risk of heart and vascular diseases. It could: • Help prevent heart diseases by stimulating the circulatory system, which positively affects the functionality of blood vessels and heart • Lower risk of having diabetes type 2: Insulin resistance makes the body unable to use blood sugar as its energy, resulting in high blood sugar. A study has been conducted and shown that menopausal women who drink white wine have a better response to insulin, which may reduce the risk of insulin resistance and diabetes. • Helps relax and reduce stress Nonetheless, the benefits of alcohol will vary greatly across different genetics, or other daily routines of each person. If you are a drinker, it is important to have a health check-up regularly, especially the liver that is the most at risk.

HOW MANY ACUPUNCTURE SESSIONS DO I NEED?

By Dr. Kate Boonyakiat DAOM, LAc – Terra Acupuncture

I

t is a reasonable and frequently asked question by patients in my daily practice but it’s not easy to answer. About 10% of people are what we call ‘Acupuncture Strong Responders’. It means that they will notice benefit from just a few sessions, then there are about 10% of people we consider ‘Acupuncture Non-Responders’, these people will not benefit at all from acupuncture, no matter how many treatments they receive, the remaining 80% of people fall somewhere in between these two groups.

If you respond well to the therapy, you should notice some positive changes within 3-4 sessions, this does not mean that your symptoms are gone within this period, only that your symptoms are less severe, you are sleeping more restfully, or you are having more good days than you did before. It is an encouraging result suggesting that you will continue care, and you will experience more and more relief. Young people in good health with problems like for example a minor ankle sprain, often require 2-3 treatments, older individuals and those with chronic health problems usually take a longer period of treatment.

It can divide into three phases: Corrective care: Treatments are scheduled regularly, 2-3 times per week in severe cases. The goal is to relieve symptoms. Convalescent care: The treatments are scheduled every two weeks. The goal is to keep symptoms under control while addressing underlying disharmonies and preventing future problems. Maintenance care: The treatments are scheduled once a month. During this phase, the goal is to maintain our progress and promote overall well-being. The length of time on each phase determined by several factors, including: 1. Acute or chronic problem? 2. How long have you had the symptoms? 3. Can you avoid the conditions that caused problems? 4. Your age? 5. Your general state of health? 6. Can you follow the diet and lifestyle recommendation?

ASSAULT, WOUNDING, AND RELATED OFFENCE. Section 391 states that, “whoever commits a forcible attack against another, where the attack is not serious, such as a fist fight without bruises and slapping someone, shall be imprisoned not more than one year or fined not more of ten thousand baht.” Section 295 states that,“whoever causes injury to the other person in body or mind, such as intentionally shooting to the non-vital organs and stabbing with knife, shall be liable to imprisonment for any period not exceeding two years or a fine not exceeding forty thousand baht, or both. Section 297 states that “whoever commits bodily harm, which causes the victim to receive grievous bodily harm, shall be punished with imprisonment of six months to ten years, and fined of one thousand to two hundred thousand baht. Grievous bodily harms are the loss of a distinct part, serious disfigurement, permanent insanity, abortion, and infirmity or chronic illness which may last throughout life.”

HOW CAN A LAND OWNER LOSE OWNERSHIP OF THEIR LAND? Section 1382 of the Civil and Commercial Code provides a basis for the concept of obtaining ownership of the property without the consent from the previous owner, or the so-called, ‘Adverse Possession’. If the property or the plot of land has been abandoned by the land owner or has nobody associated with it for over 10 years, the person who has openly and peacefully resided at that property will gain ownership going forward. However, if the real owner of the property returns to claim his rights to the land, they would have to prove that they did not abandon the property as the resident person has claimed in order to have property reverted back.

WHY CUSTOMERS SHOULD THINK TWICE BEFORE BINNING THEIR COMMERCIAL BILLS Customers should keep commercial bills such as receipts, brochures, payment slips, and commercial posters because they are considered as a part of agreement. For online business, customers are advised to screenshot their chat history between the buyer and the seller, and save a picture of the transaction on their mobile devices. In doing so, customers may use those commercial bills as proof of purchase to file a complaint. For more information, please call 1132 (Hua Hin municipality Damrongdhama Center).

SEXUAL OFFENCE: NOT KNOWING THE AGE IS NOT AN EXCUSE! Section 227 of the Criminal Code states that whoever has sexual intercourse with a child under the age of fifteen, who is not the wife or husband, whether the child shall consent or not, shall be punished with imprisonment of between four and twenty years, and fined ,000 - 40,000 baht. Also, whoever takes a child not yet over thirteen years of age away from their parents, and has sexual intercourse with them shall be liable for imprisonment of up to twenty years AND a fine of 1 0,000 - 00,000 baht, OR imprisonment for life. If the crime was committed through the threat of rape, the offender will be given the potential penalty of life imprisonment. If you have any type of case involving child sexual abuse, you are strongly encouraged to consult with Thai Child Rights by calling 0-2412119 (official working hours).

RUGBY: LEICESTER TIGERS MISS OUT ON EUROPEAN TITLE Leicester Tigers missed out on a first uropean trophy in 19 years as Montpellier edged an exciting Challenge Cup final at Twickenham. Vincent Rattez scampered on to his own kick to put the French ahead. Only 10,000 supporters were allowed into Twickenham following the easing of Covid restrictions, but despite only sparsely populating the imposing London venue the fans created a constant and surprisingly noisy atmosphere and the intensity was matched on the pitch. eicester director of rugby teve Borthwick told BBC Radio Leicester: “I think every Leicester Tigers supporter will be very proud of their team tonight. Despite the outcome, Tigers pledged to top Montpellier’s performance in the future.

FORMULA 1: LANDO NORRIS TO STAY WITH TEAM MCLAREN ‘WAY BEYOND 2022’

Lando Norris has signed a new, extended contract with McLaren. The 21-year-old Briton’s current deal was coming to an end at the end of this season and Norris said he had not considered any other options. Norris said he based his decision to stay on the fact he enjoyed being with the team, and the way their performance had improved since he joined. McLaren did not reveal the length of the deal, saying Norris and Daniel icciardo would stay beyond 0 . Norris, who made his Formula 1 debut for McLaren in 2019, is fourth in the championship ahead of last month’s Monaco Grand Prix. Norris has emerged as one of the leading lights of the new generation of drivers who have emerged in the last three years, alongside Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc and Williams’ George Russell. They, with Red Bull’s Max Verstappen, are expected to be among the leading figures in the sport for the next decade and beyond.

CRICKET: IRELAND PACEMAN RANKIN RETIRES FROM INTERNATIONAL CRICKET Ireland pace bowler oyd ankin, who also played for England, has announced his retirement from international cricket and inter-pro duty. Derry-born ankin played in 15 Ireland games in two stints between 2003 and 2020, either side of three years with England which included one Ashes Test. “I feel now is the right time to step away,” said the 36-year-old. “I have put my heart and soul into playing cricket professionally since 2003 and have loved every minute of it. “To have also a long career in county cricket especially during my 11-year stint with Warwickshire where we won the County Championship, 50-over competitions twice and the T20 Blast in 2014 was very special and something I am very grateful for,” added the pace bowler.

TENNIS: BRITAIN CAMERON NORRIE BEATS US TOP SEED DOMINIC THIEM IN LYON OPEN ritish number two Cameron Norrie earned the biggest win of his career by beating Austrian world number four Dominic Thiem in the Lyon Open. Norrie had never beaten an opponent ranked in the world s top five but won 6-3 6-2 against US Open champion Thiem. The left-hander has enjoyed a strong start to 2021, having already won a joint career-best tally of 1 matches. Norrie, ranked 49th, played impressively throughout against a below-par Thiem, converting three of his four break points while not facing one himself. “I’m so pleased to win, it’s my highest-ranked win. I couldn t be happier,” said Norrie, who has won 12 of his 15 clay-court matches this year. “I’m moving well and playing a lot of matches so feeling good on my feet, hitting my forehand well and serving well. “I’m looking forward to getting another match on the clay before oland Garros.” While Norrie will go into this month’s French Open with plenty of confidence - no matter how the rest of the week in Lyon pans out - it was a worrying defeat for top seed Thiem.

FIFA TO CONSIDER HOLDING WORLD CUP EVENTS EVERY TWO YEARS RATHER THAN FOUR Football’s world governing body Fifa is to launch a feasibility study into holding the men’s and women’s World Cups every two years instead of four. The proposal, by Saudi Arabia’s football federation (SAFF), received backing at Fifa’s annual congress. The study will also look at the qualifying competitions for these tournaments. “We believe the future of football is at a critical juncture,” said SAFF president Yasser Al-Misehal. “The many issues that football has faced have now been further exacerbated by the ongoing pandemic. “It is important to review how the global game is structured, which should include whether the current four-year cycle remains the optimum basis for how football is managed both from a competition and a commercial perspective as well as overall football development.” Fifa president Gianni Infantino called it an “eloquent and detailed proposal”, with 166 national federations voting in favour and 22 voting against.

“IF MAN CITY HAD OUR INJURIES, THEY WOULD NOT HAVE WON TITLE” - KLOPP Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp says Manchester City would not have won the Premier League this season if they had to deal with his side’s injury crisis. Powerful centre-backs Virgil van Dijk and Joe Gomez missed most of the season with knee injuries. Fellow defender oel atip, midfielders Fabinho and Jordan Henderson and new signing Diogo Jota were among those to also miss large parts of the campaign. “With our injuries it was not the year to become champions,” Klopp said. “No chance - for nobody.” “As good as they are, if City had their three centre-halves out, no [they don’t win the league]. Three centre-halves of Manchester United, no. Despite being top of the table at Christmas, the impact of the injuries eventually caught up with Klopp’s side.

SPURS WILL FALL APART IF KANE IS SOLD THIS SUMMER, SAYS JENAS Tottenham would “fall apart” if they sold Harry Kane this summer, says former purs midfielder ermaine Jenas. Kane, 27, wants “honest” talks with Spurs chairman Daniel Levy with reports claiming he wants to leave this summer. Jenas doubts whether Levy will be able to do enough in those talks to persuade the England captain to stay. “The part of me that loves the club doesn’t want Harry to leave,” he said. “But he deserves his opportunity at the top and I hope he gets what he wants.” The striker still has three years left to run on the six-year contract he signed in 2018, which would put Spurs in a strong position in transfer negotiations. Jenas believes Kane’s future will depend on the lengths he is prepared to go to try to force a move away.

HOW SERGIO AGUERO BECAME A MANCHESTER CITY LEGEND COPA AMERICA GAMES MOVED FROM COLOMBIA AFTER PROTESTS Colombia will no longer co-host the 2021 Copa America after a series of protests in the country. The tournament was set to be held between Colombia and Argentina for the first time in its 105year history. There have been widespread protests against the government in Colombia, with demonstrators disrupting some Copa Libertadores matches. The final of the 10-team tournament, which runs from 13 June-10 July, was due to be held in Barranquilla. The South American Football Confederation (Conmebol) took the games off Colombia after previously rejecting a proposal to move them to November, saying it was “impossible”. “We guarantee the realisation of the 2021 Copa America and in the coming days will inform on the relocation of those games that were to be held in Colombia.” Argentina has offered to host the entire tournament.

Asked to describe Sergio Aguero in one word, most experts provide answers that say it all. Manchester City striker Aguero leaves Etihad Stadium this summer after 10 years, 258 goals and unprecedented success at the club. He has five remier League titles, one FA Cup and six League Cup triumphs. He has more Premier League hat-tricks than anyone else. He is the top overseas goalscorer in league history. And he is fourth in the Premier League all-time scorers list. Aguero joined Manchester City from Atletico Madrid in 2011 for £35m, aged 23. The Argentine had already helped Atletico to Europa League success, had won two Under-20 World Cups and claimed Olympic gold in 2008. Before the player comes to Europe, there is always that question about how will they adapt. Atletico Madrid were horrified by his diet, red meat, fi y drinks. They tried to work on his diet - so at the point City bought him, I couldn’t see any risk whatsoever,” says South American expert Tim Vickery. He has helped change the club with his impact... City were not winning Premier Leagues before he came. Sergio is now on the sidelines and watching City thrive. He will be unhappy. The sad thing is it wouldn’t surprise me if he doesn’t play in the Champions eague final.

GOLF IS A SAFE ACTIVITY AND COURSES SHOULD NOT BE CLOSED G

olf courses are businesses that should be allowed to remain open regardless of increasing numbers of Covid-19 cases in the locality, outdoor sports are safe because the sun will kill the virus, and as many thousands of people are employed they should not be closed down as a panic response. Dr. Manoon Lee Chaweng Wong, a specialist in respiratory diseases at Vichaiyut Hospital, has posted a message on his personal Facebook page about the reasons for giving some places such as golf courses exemption from closure. Because golf is an outdoor sport, and Thailand is a hot sunny country where the heat from the sun can kill Covid-19, the UV light in sunlight can kill the virus on various surfaces within 4 minutes and kill the virus that emanates from the breath in 2 minutes, in addition, there is the natural wind on the golf course and of course it is totally ventilated. olf in Thailand is played in groups of no more than 5 people, but with a wide field players do not have to face each other and can at all times be spaced 1-2 metres apart, both players and caddies are required to wear masks and manage their hygiene. If required, use of golf carts, dining rooms, showers, changing rooms and toilets can be restricted, and body temperature measurements taken every time players enter buildings, during this period organising of golf tournaments can be limited.

There are 238 golf courses across the country, and these courses provide many thousands of jobs helping people and the nation’s economy. The caddy doesn’t have to be close to Golfers, just hand over the golf club, and golfers and caddies can wear a mask all the time, and if using a golf cart, only the player is allowed to drive and the caddy clings to the back platform. Food kiosks on golf courses are open-air, usually with no doors or windows, in enclosed spaces do not turn on any air-conditioning and try to sit apart, caddies can prepare their own food. In the locker room used to change clothes, you can use the toilets, but it is possible to not allow showering because the club may not want the mask to be removed. The principle is that all workers are constantly in the fresh air but are still required to wear masks, wash hands, practice social distancing, and temperatures are regularly checked, alcohol hand wash is also provided at different points of entry to the buildings. Golf tournaments may not be held to prevent too many people gathering after the tournament.

EARTHWORM MANURE FERTILISER ENCOURAGED

P

ermanent municipal clerk and acting Mayor of Hua Hin, r irawat ramani, together with the ocial elfare Division and community developers, went to a meeting at the ufficiency conomy earning Centre in the Army Non Commissioned Officer camp. The visit alongside experts in the production of earthworm fertiliser exchanged ideas, and advised on the best way to ramp up this hugely effective method of fertilisation in the area. arthworms are universally considered to be important for the ecosystem, and an alternative to organic farming, earthworm fertilisers add microorganisms to the soil and make the soil more efficient, they also help to nourish plants, grasses and trees. The earthworm manure fertilisers are organic matter that earthworms have ingested and decomposed into useful excrement, they are black or brown flaky granules with a high moisture content, they provide for good drainage and soil ventilation, and contain nutrients and a large amount of organic matter. The discussion informed that the best methods for the cultivation of earthworms are mainly divided into 2, basin, or cement pond cultivation.

PLANS TO STOP THE JELLYFISH PROBLEM ON HUA HIN’S BEACHES

T

he beaches of Hua Hin and Cha am have always suffered problems with ellyfish, Chysaora), especially after prolonged heavy rain when the creatures come to float in the water close to the shore to feed. We have surely all heard many complaints from tourists that have been painfully stung whilst enjoying a morning swim. Chysaora, also have the nickname ’Sea Nettles’, due to an extremely venomous sting in their tiny tentacles, the sting is released when they come into contact with human skin. The poisoned area feels like it is on fire, becomes swollen, red, blistered and cracked and in severe cases can cause the victim to suffer shock, breathing difficulties and even death. In an attempt to remedy the problem Hua Hin Municipality had a meeting with representatives of the Marine Resource Conservation Division at the Marine and Coastal esources anagement Office , hetchaburi, to discuss the installation of nets that will prevent the ellyfish from entering the areas close to the beaches of Hua Hin and Khao Takieb. The meeting proposed a net attached to buoys with the safe areas clearly marked to inform swimmers. The livelihoods of local fishermen will not be affected.

T

PALAPON FITNESS & WEIGHT HAVE DONATED FOOD

T

hese are very difficult times for many people due to the economic shutdown in response to Covid-19. Many businesses have closed and staff and workers have lost their employment and source of income, some temporarily, some permanently. It is at times like these that some people step up and provide assistance to others less fortunate than themselves and that is certainly the case with entrepreneur Klaus Lippert, head of the local business alapon in Hua Hin, a fitness and weight loss camp. Palapon Fitness & Weight Loss Camp and Palapon Lean Food have donated food and beverages as well as other necessities to people in need in the Khao Takieb area. This is also the case with the developer and staff at Orchid Palm Homes, they have gone well beyond the call of duty to support vulnerable people in their local community handing out bags filled with basic foods - eggs, rice and vegetables. and hygienic products - soap, shampoo and detergent as well as facemasks.

HUA HIN FOODBANK WELCOME CONTACT FROM NEW SPONSORS H

ua Hin Food bank pre-dates Covid-19 by over 2 years, the pandemic and the subsequent job losses caused by lockdowns were merely the catalyst that bought us to the public eye. rior to the first lockdown we were supplying food for up to 24 families a week with personal and donated funds, the emergence of the coronavirus in 2020 brought with it a huge increase in requests for help, forcing us to appeal to the good nature and trust of others. Local and global appeals quickly brought in funds to keep us sustainable through the roughest of times, and we are now supporting up to 150 families each week with deliveries to homes, and those numbers are still increasing. A weekly food bag for an average size family consists of 5kg rice, 10 tins of fish, 0 packs of noodles, 0 eggs, a litre of cooking oil, fish sauce, a box of cereals, 24 small enriched kinds of milk, soap, toothpaste, detergent and mosquito spray. The benefit of regular weekly food bags removes the worry of not knowing where the next meal is coming from.....imagine the anguish of a parent not knowing if they will be able to feed their children. We work under the same ethos as Western food banks and assure anonymity of our customers, we never take photographs or disclose names. As donation fatigue sets in we welcome contact from new sponsors, 100% of all donations are spent on food as we have no overheads, our time and fuel costs are donated by our volunteers. In the last 3 years, we have delivered over 1 ,000 weekly food bags with on average meals per bag. We will continue feeding hungry families long after Covid-19 is over and behind us, albeit more privately.
