Flood Relieve Aid from Hua Hin

Flood relieve centres have been erected in and around Hua Hin T here are several centres where food, clothes and other donations can be left for the flood victims in the northern parts of Thailand and Bangkok.

The first initiatives came from the Church of Love and the Serenity Resort also known as Best Western Plus on Petschkasem road next to the Anantara resort, travelling North. Among others, the Red Cross and the Municipality are also open to receiving goods and a large counter has been build up in front of the Market Village Mall. However take care in spending money and make sure the organisation is bonafide and trustful.

pearheaded by the Six Senses resorts and exemplary beach cleaning by other Resorts such as Chivasom, Hyatt, Hilton, Marriott and Sofitel and the other boutique hotels, environmental responsibility is a growing thing. It is about time that we do something seriously about cleaning and living responsibly in close conjunction with our mother planet. If you were a suspicious person, you would think that the Earth is taking revenge on our and never ending greed. No , not you and me but the industrials , corporate companies, excavating , Brazilian forest plundering and endless gun battles which could have ended a long time ago but continue for the sake of keeping the arms industry alive. With the wallet of the US being empty one wonders why and how they keep on shooting in the air in Afghanistan whilst the bandits hide in bare mountains, caves, no bushes, no jungle but according to “reliable” sources, not easy to find, however, Mr. Smith, owing the IRS 10.000 US $ is easily found in deepest Isan and dragged back home to pay his debt. Makes you wonder doesn´t it ? Anyway, I admired the herb gardens at the Evason and Hyatt.

Evason even recycles waste water to irrigate the gardens. We must do more to protect our environment we owe it to our world. As my wife was sitting on our terrace she suddenly heard birds making a loud noise and diving down like kamikaze bombers. As she looked on, she saw a black Cobra crossing the terrace of our neighbours who, luckily enough were not there. The birds actually warned other animals of the danger. The same bird however could not avoid a black cat from jumping on one of their colleagues and finishing it off with one predatorily bite and then speeding off with the bird for an evening snack. Did you know you could buy

a brand new Nissan March (4 doors) for less than 400.000 Baht an if you have the proper connections, put down 30.000 Baht and pay it off with less than 6.000 a month? Check out the small car comparison in this edition.

Phuket things are getting out of hand and I wonder if the central government is going to interact. Tourists are being ripped off by TT Taxis and if payment is disputed, sticks are pulled and used to settle the bill. One guy is still in a coma. Brace for the Thailand flood ye saints of good. In some cities and areas around BKK, water supply, yes, bottles were not available. Rain is great but not much fun anymore. No tennis, sumpy golf fields, higher food prices. In Hua Hin we found price increases up to 40% on some vegetables.

Let´s hope November is better and cheaper.

Once my order is placed, I’m not supposed to go looking for her. I have to have faith that she’d be delivered to me when the time is right. I am going to design the perfect and ideal girlfriend, it’s unorthodox I agree but as Dr. Frankenstein did, I will create that unique being in a ‘condo room voodoo’ ceremony.

Orchestrated by my mates, the B’ boys, under the influence of fermented barleys, we’ll be humming in Gaelic, playing bongos, while dancing naked around an imaginary fire with an ostrich feather up our rare, painting on the face and a bras around the head. I will be singing incantations to the universe and summoning the darks side of the force to listen to my prayers. Such spiritualism is way out of character on a practical nature and may lead people to think I’ve completely lost it, but fits perfectly my ego: I would believe that the forces of the universe can take orders directly from me….may the force be with you, young Jedi…. And yes, I probably abused a little too much on cold heinies, while writing this piece.

oi Krathong takes place on the evening of the full moon of the 12th month in the traditional Thai lunar calendar. In the western calendar this usually falls in November.

Loy Krathong

“Loi” means “to float” and a “krathong” is traditionally made from a section of banana tree trunk. Modern krathongs are more often made of bread or styrofoam. A bread krathong will disintegrate in a few days and be eaten by fish and other animals. The traditional banana stalk krathongs are also biodegradable, but styrofoam krathongs are frowned on, since they are polluting and may take years to disappear.

Regardless of the composition, a krathong will be decorated with elaborately-folded banana leaves, flowers, candles and incense sticks. A low value coin is sometimes included as an offering to the river spirits.

During the night of the full moon, Thais will float their krathong on a river, canal or a pond lake. The festival is believed to originate in an ancient practice of paying respect to the spirit of the waters. Today it is simply a time to have fun.

To foster traditional Thai culture and promote tourism in the city, Hua Hin will have the Loy Krathong festival for one day only on November 10. In the morning session will see a contest of beautiful biodegradable Krathongs at the Phon Kingphet Memorial Park. All Krathongs are made by students of primary, lower secondary, upper secondary/university levels. 4,000 Baht cash, 3,000 Baht cash and 1,000 Baht cash will be awarded with a certificate and a plaque to the winner, the 1st runner up and the 2nd runner up respectively. In the evening will be a big parade of sumptuously decorated Krathong around Hua Hin also student performances at the Queen Sirikit Memorial Park.

Makro soon to open in Hua Hin

akro is a (originally) Dutch chain of Warehouse clubs, also called cash and carries. The first one opened in 1968 in Amsterdam. In the following years more stores opened in the Netherlands and in several other countries within Europe. In the 1970s and 1980s Makro extended its business to the Americas and Asia. he Phua Hua Hin Group, led by chairman Mr. Bowornmongkhol Lerk-u-khot, provided flood relief bags carried in 5 pickup trucks from Hua Hin to the Asia Update Channel in Bangkok. All the bags, consisting of rice, dried food, drinking water and first-aid medicines, will be given to the flood affected people in Pathumthani, Ayuthaya and Ang Thong.

According to Mr. Bowornmongkhol, The Phua Hua Hin Group, having constantly monitored the flood that occurs in Central Thailand, found that many people in the area had difficulty in finding food and shelters. The Group members thus donated some money and collected supplies given by local people in Hua Hin to help the people affected by the current flooding.

After handing the entire donation, the Group members went to the flooded areas, particularly those in Pathumthani, and helped the people there carried their belongings to move out of the area safely.

Although water level was already receded, a large amount of water is not drained out properly, thus impeding people from moving out of the area. So, they still need more necessary supplies, such as food, boats and water. So, local people and foreigners in Hua Hin who would like to donate those things can contact the chairman of the Phua Hua Hin Group directly at tel. 081 994 902.

The District Chief of Hua Hin Mr. Somchai Bamrungsap said the Hua Hin Municipality, the Tourism Business Association of Hua Hin and Cha-Am and the Market Village shopping mall already set up a center to collect donation – whether money or supplies – from local people in Hua Hin in The donation of around 300,000 Baht in cash has been lately given to the Prachuab Khirikhan Governor who will later forward it to the Ministry of Interior for the flood relief throughout the country.

The donors on this occasion include Mr. Jira Pongpaiboon, Mr. Athikhun Bootying, Mr. Suwit Rienrungreung, Mr. Krib Rijasathira, Mr. Sura-at Narongrit and Mr. Thawee Kesa-ngarm among others.

Concerned with the current flood ravage in Thailand, the Director of the Suan Dusit Rajabhat University Dr. Suraphol Siriset has asked some of students to call for financial supports and supplies from people who live along on Phetchakasem Road in Hua Hin. Students gained over 500,000 Baht donation which is now given to 20 schools in Nonthaburi, Ayuthaya, Ang Thong, Pichit, Kamphaeng Phet and U-taradit. Moreover, 20 exchange students from China will visit flood affected schools in Central Thailand to provide food and medicines to the people taking shelter there. This activity is going on until November and donation can be made directly at the Suan Dusit Rajabhat University, Hua Hin Campus.

100th Anniversary เชิญชวนร่วมงานย้อนรอย 100 ปีรถไฟหัวหิน of The Hua Hin Railway

T

he State Railway of Thailand the Hua Hin Municipality, the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT), the Thawimuk Sport Complex and the Hua Hin/Cha-Am Tourism Business Association, are celebrating the 100th anniversary of the Hua Hin railway from November 25-26, 2011 at the Phon Kingphet Memorial Park.

According to the Deputy Mayor of Hua Hin Mr. Suwit Rienrungreung, the Hua Hin railway is dated back in 1911 when the SRT opened the train track from Bangkok to Hua Hin. That time is known among Thai people as the Laem Hin period of traveling.

The anniversary for Hua Hin railway, organized á la Thai retro style, will start early in the morning on November 25 with a Buddhist ceremony at the Hua Hin Railway Station. In the afternoon, famous people from Hua Hin and Prachuab Khirikhan as well as businesspeople, with traditional Thai dresses, once common during the reign of King Ramas VII and VIII, will board a train from Cha-Am to Hua Hin. Then, at 6 p.m.,

they will come to the event venue and visit an exhibit relating history of Hua Hin railway and old fishing villages in Hua Hin. On-stage entertainment highlights the multi-visioned slide presentation about Hua Hin, retro performances and a dinner banquet with classic Thai songs about this beachfront city, namely “Hua Hin Sin Mon Rak (Love Is Over in Hua Hin)”, “Siang Sa-eun Jak Sai Lom (The Sobbing Wind)” and “Mon Rak Ruedoo Ron (Love in Summer)”. All of them are wellknown among Thai people.

On this auspicious occasion, the Thawimuk Sport Complex will provide visitors in Hua Hin a caradapted train of 60 seats for a relaxing day trip. Starting at the Sport Complex, the train will go to important tourist spots of Hua Hin, such as Klai Kang Won Royal Palace, Chatchai Market, Hua Hin Railway Station, the statue of King Rama VII and Hin Lek Fire Hill. Throughout the trip, a qualified tour guide will tell the story of each visit with classic Thai background music.

Building up Hua Hin Historical Center

The

three well-known families in Hua Hin: Kanjanomai, Krasaesin and Sathukarn, will soon establish a Hua Hin Historical Center and Museum to allow young generations to learn about the true identity of their ancestors and former generations.

According to the Chairperson of the Committee on Hua Hin History, Prof. Pensri Kanjanomai, she and executives led by the city mayor Mr. Jira Pongpaiboon, are working closely with members of the three families on this project. Recently, they have divided the project into 5 categories, in accordance with sociocultural factors, namely History, Local Culture and Tradition, Local Lifestyle and Economy, Important Political Figures and Geographical Location.

The Committee will collect old pictures of depicting houses, archeological sites, important government offices, local culture and lifestyle, famous politicians and local administrators in the past. The collection will include fishing utensils of local people in Hua Hin. All the things will be categorized into the 5 groups as stated earlier so as to be displayed at the historical center and museum.

Planned for its completion in the next couple of years, the Hua Hin historical center and museum will be located at the former office of Hua Hin

I finished my chef education in Stockholm 1999, and have been working in many rewarding restaurants since then. I also run my own restaurant in Stockholm for 6 years. I sold the restaurant and worked 4 month in the north Sweden at a ski paradise. That was something I always wanted to do.

Hua Hin property Bubble Dismissed revival expected

T

he Bank of Thailand has played down concerns over the country’s record foreign direct investment fuelling a property bubble. “Many foreign investors still choose to invest in the stock market while some choose to invest in bonds,” Bank of Thailand’s domestic economy department director Methee Supapong said on Monday according to the Bangkok Post.

The amount of foreign investment in the country’s real estate remains small, due to strict foreign ownership laws in Thailand that largely forbid foreigners from freeholds and restricts leases to 30 year periods. Investors have long called for these restrictions to be eased, but, Thailand, in contrast to some of its larger neighbours, Singapore and Hong Kong, has not become a speculators market. Bangkok property prices rose over 4 percent over the last year, but Thailand has enjoyed relatively stable market prices since its recovery from the 1997 crash.

The Bank’s comments come several days after Supavud Saicheua, managing director and head of research of investment brokerage Phatra Securities warned Thailand’s property and stock markets run a risk of facing a bubble burst if foreign capital continues flowing into Asia. With further liquidity expected in the market, partly due to US Federal Reserve measures, some Asian economies are expected to grow 7.7 per cent on average this year. Anticipating this drive for investment and in an attempt to slow the Baht’s meteoric rise the Thai Government has recently introduced capital inflow taxes that have deflected some investment. However, with market forces exceeding the government’s own, inflationary pressure is still strong in the region, heightened further by the US dollar’s expected weakening against the Baht with the injection of USD 600 billion by the Federal Reserve Courtesy of Asia Property Magazine

he Thai beach resort town of Hua Hin is expected to experience a property market revival in the next year, it has been reported. According to Thai newspaper the Bangkok Post, local broker Engel and Volkers has painted a positive picture for the market thanks to numerous buyers overcoming concerns regarding political instability in the country. It revealed that although prices will not post big gains this year, an increasing amount of potential investors had been expressing an interest in the area, looking to take advantage of potential rising prices.

Oliver Lutzi, Hua Hin office manager of the brokerage, claimed that the market currently belonged to the buyer, with prices reasonably stable due to the fact that “economic turbulence has only had a marginal impact on property” in the region.

Furthermore, the newspaper also reported that the property market in the Thai city of Pattaya will also experience growth this year. It stated that a pick up of around five to ten per cent was likely to occur thanks to rising property costs.

The Government Housing Bank has rolled out a THB20 billion scheme to offer zero-interest loans to low-income earners

D

irect commercial real-estate investment volumes in Asia Pacific have increased to around 10 per cent a year to date, according to third-quarter flash reports from Jones Lang LaSalle.

Preliminary figures released last week suggest that volumes have now reached approximately US$67 billion (Bt2 billion) year to date compared to $61 billion for the same period last year.

The key country to watch was Japan where direct commercial investment volumes went back to over $4.7 billion, in line with the same quarter in 2010, as investors looked to see how the markets recovered following the tsunami and earthquake and the subsequent dramatic fall in volumes during the second quarter.

Japan’s volumes in the third quarter of 2011 showed a resurgence from the $1.5 billion reported in the second quarter supported by the Bank of Japan’s programme to spur the Japanese Real Estate Investment Trusts (J-REIT) market, leading to significant buying activity by J-REITs. The resumption of this market is likely to support renewed international investor interest in the biggest market in the Asia-Pacific. The IMF’s outlook for Japan next year is for growth of 2.3 per cent based on reconstruction work following the disaster.

In China, Shanghai was the top location with the city being home to six out of the top 10 biggest deals, four offices, one retail and a hotel. The deal volume for China’s direct commercial property investments rose to approximately $2.8 billion,

up 13 per cent year on year.

The landmark deal this quarter was Hong Kong’s Festival Walk, which was sold by Swire Properties to Mapletree Investments for $2.4 billion. This is the biggest by far involving a single built asset since 2007, and the largest in Hong Kong’s history. The market was active in South Korea with approximately $1.8 billion of deals recorded, double the volume in the same quarter last year with REITs actively buying Seoul office stock.

In Australia, volumes stood at the $3-billion mark, back to more usual transactional levels following the surge of overseas cash into the market last quarter which pushed volumes up to $4 billion.

In Singapore, total volumes were at $1.2 billion, made up of plenty of smaller sub-$100-million deals, with industrial being an active sector.

On the back of increased investment volumes in the third quarter, most major markets saw either stable or increasing capital values. Across the region, the average quarterly increase in capital values was 2.6 per cent, slightly higher than the 2.4 per cent recorded in the second quarter of this year. Capital values in Jakarta and Beijing recorded the largest quarter on quarter increases of 14.2 per cent and 11.8 per cent, respectively, largely in tandem with rental growth. Sydney, Perth and Manila followed with quarterly increases of 4-6.5 per cent. Growth in capital values in Hong Kong and Singapore slowed further to between 0.8 per cent and 2.1 per cent, as investors became more cautious.

apanese based design firm GARDE recently organized an Asian research tour for its Japanese clients to visit new developments, exchange ideas with regional developers and investigate investment opportunities in the South East Asia region.

The keynote speaker at the event was Khun Longlom Bunnag, Chairman of Jones Lang LaSalle Thailand and a panel discussion also took place, moderated by television presenter Dale Lawrence and featuring leading industry professionals from major developers such as PACE Development Thailand and Tokyo Tatemono Co Ltd,.

At a press conference before the seminar, Mr. Katsuyuki Kitano, Executive Director, International Business Development at GARDE said that Thailand’s long established relationship with the Japanese manufacturing industry, combined with its increasingly

influential position in South East Asia presents strong potential for international developers and business partners. He specifically mentioned mixed use developments as an opportunity in and around Bangkok and hinted at a possible joint venture project to be announced at a later date.

“The tragic flooding in Thailand is obviously having an immediate impact in Thailand, but developers are always looking long term,” said Mr Kitano, ” We have already spent 8 months re-building the Japanese market after the earthquake, and I am sure Thailand has the skills and resources to do the same.

Japanese businesses want to help with the process in every way we can.”

In the commercial sector, Japan’s fascination with Thai culture is matched by a love for all things Nippon in Bangkok. With developers now actively looking for Thai partners to develop new projects in the Bangkok’s main urban areas, the GARDE seminar provided a valuable platform for leading figures in both countries’ property sectors to come together and discuss opportunities.

he Government Housing Bank has announced plans to offer new home buyers an interestfree mortgage of up to THB1mn (US$32,082) for the first three years. The programme is aimed at low-income earners and can carry terms of up to 30 years.

The GHB said it will set aside up to THB20bn (US$641.6mn) for the programme, which is in addition to the government’s ongoing programme offering tax rebates of 10 per cent for purchases of homes up to THB5mn (US$160,395).

The programme is financed through government subsidies of THB800mn (US$25.6mn) per year and an agreement to allow the GHB to reduce its profit remittances to the state through 2014.

The GHB will accept applications for the interest-free loan from next Tuesday through September 30, 2012 and contracts must be signed with the GHB before the end of 2012. The loan programme will include detached homes and properties as well as second-hand homes seized by the GHB, which currently has around 10,000 homes for sale.

Experts say the programme will mainly benefit upcountry buyers as few homes in Bangkok and surrounding areas cost less than one million baht.

According to the Bangkok Post, developers who may benefit include listed company Pruksa Real Estate, as the majority of its units are priced at less than THB2mn (US$64,157). The company relies heavily on prefabrication techniques that can result in homes being built in two months.

a total value of just THB8bn (US$256.6mn).

“I think this stimulus package will help the low-income market get their first home,” Opas Sripayak, managing director of LPN Development, said yesterday. He added that the new policy is better than the government’s tax deduction scheme as it benefits the low-income market. According to The Nation, a home buyer will save about THB60, 000 (US$1,925) per year, or THB180, 000 (US$5,777) throughout the loan agreement based on a 6 per cent interest loan.

LPN Development has customers who would benefit the zero-interest loan for about 5,000 units, worth THB5bn (US$160.5mn).

Srettha Thavisin, president of Sansiri, said both the policy tax deduction of 10 per cent for residences priced up to Bt5 million and the zerointerest for the first three years are good for homebuyers, as they can save on the cost of buying a residence. The measures also support people in gaining their first home.

“We believe that both first-home schemes will boost the property market and also make the country’s economic growth stable,” he said.

Calls for longer property leases for foreign buyers in Thailand

he Joint Foreign Chambers of Commerce in Thailand (JFCCT) and real estate consultants are pressing for a review of the country’s policy regarding foreign ownership.

They point out that the foreign buying segment is a significant part of Thailand’s property market and should be less restricted and failing to change will see buyers go elsewhere.

JFCCT is lobbying for the introduction of a 60 year registered lease term, double the current 30 years. But neighbouring countries have 99 years leases for foreign buyers.

The impact of an effective improvement in foreign ownership legislation on the construction industry, the real estate sector, and associated services would be significant, says CB Richard Ellis. ‘Properly handled, the contribution to the wider Thai Economy could be significant without any material risk to issues of sovereignty or adversely affecting social or economic conditions,’ the company says in a new report.

‘Most of the successful property markets in the region are either totally liberal, for example, Hong Kong, or have recently dramatically reduced restrictions on foreign ownership such as Singapore. Markets such as the UK, in actual fact favour the foreign owner over domestic buyers notably in respect of tax. In response to the global crisis, Singapore has liberalized its foreign ownership laws and launched for the first time landed villas at Sentosa which were targeted at new overseas investors and have been a resounding success,’ the report says.

CBRE believes that ‘sensible changes to current policy would have a dramatic and positive impact on Thailand’s economy. At a time of fragile global economic recovery, any incremental income that can be gained from international investment should not be lightly ignored’.

Probably the major change in terms of encouraging inbound foreign investment into the ownership of resort or investment property would be allowing Thai banks to lend to foreign purchasers against the security of Thai real estate, it explains. This would have considerable benefits as all current inbound investments are on a 100% cash basis.

This would benefit residential developers, resort developers, construction contractors, and the Thai banking system. Sensible restrictions and controls could limit the level of debt and the banks could charge foreigners a premium over Thai borrowers, probably of one to two percentage points. Foreign investors would rush to take up onshore loan facilities should this be allowed. They would also, in our view, accept specific and tighter controls on repossession in the event of default.’

‘The ratio of no more than 49% foreign ownership in a registered condominium is set to prevent foreign control of landed property. If, however, in certain areas, for example, the resort markets, the ownership ratio were increased to match market demand, there would undoubtedly be a significant increase in foreign investment.

Provided the condominium is managed by a Thai management entity and the rules and articles of association of a condominium prevent foreign owners acting in concert, there is little risk to fellow Thai condominium owners or to the local property market,’ it explains.

‘All in all, Thailand would see considerable gains in inbound investment. This could also be used to stimulate potential new resort areas, and Thailand’s policy to increase tourism revenue.’

It points out that it has seen an increase in buyers in neighbouring countries such as Cambodia.

‘These buyers are not entering the market because Cambodia is cheap. They are entering it because they have long term registered security of tenure on competitive quality property. In a world of global uncertainty, Thailand is likely to fair much better than many of its immediate neighbours and arguably several of the major global economies,’ it adds.

‘However, by simply adjusting the calibration of current foreign property ownership legislation with a view to improve inbound investment, there are major benefits to be made in real estate, construction, retail consumption, education, transportation, schooling, and tourism. It is Thailand’s choice whether it wants to reach out and take a share of this market.

he Banyan Pineapple Pairs Cup 2011 was a team event with a field of over 60 players.

Each team of 2 players recorded the best Stableford (individual) score per hole.

Handicaps were adjusted to 75% of stated handicap. Play for the gentlemen was from the Blue tees, and from Red tees for the Ladies.

Play had started since the early morning as many players were eager to see the England Vs Scotland game in the Rugby World Cup. All players had completed their rounds by 4 pm. and a prize-giving dinner was held at The Terrace Restaurant. Some tough pin positions & strong breeze on the back 9 make for some difficult shot-making.

But all players had a wonderful day out on the fairways & greens of Banyan Golf Club. The event was organized by Banyan Golf Club’s Joe Morrissey who was on hand to announce the prize winners alongside Banyan Golf Club General manager, Stacey Walton and Asian Tour Professional Dion Sirianni. The Banyan Pineapple Pairs Cup 2011 champions were presented with a pair of trophies and a special Banyan cocktail served in a fresh pineapple from the golf course.

esidential developments in Hua Hin and Pattaya are on the fast track of becoming the hottest destinations for buyers to invest their money in, as developers are seeing high demand for their projects.

Among the beachside projects, LPN Development has just launched a condominium project called Lumpini Park Beach Jomtien in Pattaya, with a market value of THB4bn (US$130mn).

Sansiri has just launched a new condominium

project called Baan Saaan Kram at Hua Hin, with a market value of THB1.5bn (US$49mn).

Most of these developments are sought after by Thai buyers, who still acount for the majority of sales in Hua Hin and Pattaya, however, there has recently been an increase of buyers from South Korea, China and Taiwan, who are quickly turning into the second largest group of investor while western investors remain cautious due to the volatile global economic situation.

Lessons from a crisis

I

n the real-estate business, the last three months of the year are normally the period when every developer makes all-out efforts to push for higher sales volume to make up for any accumulated shortfalls or, even achieve higher targets.

This year, however, the circumstances are different. As we all know, the current severe flooding has been causing havoc throughout central Thailand and nearby regions, and everything that stands in its way has been left in tatters. Thousands of lives have been left in a state of shock and despair. This is a national disaster on a scale that hasn’t been witnessed for many years.

I can imagine how hard it must be for the prime minister and the government who are trying to tackle the situation when it seems no one can precisely, scientifically, and most importantly timely foretell or anticipate the extent of this flood and the extent of damage it will cause. This flood is a test of our crisis management capabilities at a national level.

At the same time, this is also an unwelcome opportunity for every business to cross-check its crisis management plans, to see if we are ready for such disasters and how strategically and collectively everyone in the organisation can perform their assigned duties to minimise the impact.

For everyone in the real-estate business, including ourselves, flooding is a kind of physical crisis and the effects are very different from other kinds of crises. Economic, financial, political, or confidence crises could leave emotional scars on consumers but it is very unlikely that the physical aspect of the real-estate business will be affected.

Flooding is a crisis that damages the actual being of the business and affects the actual consumer’s means of dwelling - flooded sites, damaged properties, water shortage, electricity cut off, sanitation issues etc. Moreover, though much less important given the current situation, many of our partners’ factories are submerged under water, resulting in shortage of construction materials.

Even when water recedes, these factories will need repairs and overhauling, which could take some time.

In dealing with such a crisis, it is compulsory that we anticipate the situation and prepare for the worst, and it is preferable that both preventive and passive measures are worked out in advance.

Unfortunately, the information provided to people by the government and other related agencies has been speculative at best. That leaves everyone very vulnerable and dependent on their own ill-informed judgments. We have been meeting every morning for the past week prior to the flooding to evaluate the situation but we knew we couldn’t solely depend on news and reports from state agencies to evaluate the situation. As a result,

the best we could do - and I strongly recommend others also do the same - is to send a team to be stationed at the site 24 hours. It is critical that detailed information is precisely communicated to the management and swift action is taken accordingly. Also, once you have preventive measures fully in place, useful information should be communicated to customers. In times of such crisis, it is a good idea to set up an ad hoc 24hour response centre. This could be a call centre, blog page, website, real time SMS response to database, or any useful means that we think can be utilised. The customers want to hear what is needed to be told from us constantly.

One more very basic but important gesture that I want to encourage is the management must pull up its sleeves and get its feet dirty by visiting the affected sites themselves. If you are truly involved in tackling the problem from the start, this will surely send out a signal to everyone trying their best to protect the properties that you are taking this task to heart.

Lastly, reputation is another thing that every business affected by this flood must be carefully about. I personally disagree with anyone who takes this opportunity to promote themselves by advertising their help and donations. Marketing people must put on a different hat when it comes to genuinely and sincerely helping out those who suffer. I must say I am very pleased that our fellow developers have not come up with cheap PR stunts to promote their contributions and assistance to the affected communities. I am also very pleased that many, though not all, developers are taking it seriously in helping their customers the best they can, even though sometimes the assistance might fall short of customers’ expectations. But at least, the priority is correctly in place.

Opening Hua Hin White Sailboat Football Club

he Cool Smile Group has recently launched the Hua Hin White Sailboat Football Club for soccer players and ethousiasts in Hua Hin. Organized for youths and adults who love playing and watching soccer, the club consists of many members who played football matches around Hua Hin, thus gaining so much support and sponsorship. The club was eventually formed.

The symbol of the Vaga sailboat – The white sailboat was the boat His Majesty The King used in an international boat racing from the Klai Kangwon Royal Palace to the Royal Thai Marine Corps on the Toey Ngarm Beach in Sattaheep, Chonburi, on 19 April 1966. The Hua Hin White Sailboat Football Club realizes the great importance of the sport in maintaining good health for all Thai people and strengthening unity in Thailand. It also aims to be a center of excellence in football of Hua Hin, following His Majesty who is a excellently model of sport in Thailand.

Thankful to all Members who brought a big successes in the fourth class national football match three years ago, the club is currently looking forward to the third and the second national football matches as well as the Division 2 in 2012. n November 11 – 13, 2011, Skeet and Trap Shooting Association of Thailand will host the “Hua-Hin Sporting Clay” at Hua-Hin Shooting Club’s in Bo Fai, Soi 6 Hua Hin, Prachuab Kirikhan (Bo Fai Shooting Range) in order to promote clay target shooting in the region, to provide an opportunity for interested people to enjoy the activity.

“Skeet and Trap Shooting Association of Thailand decides to host the first “HunHin Sporting Clay” in Hua-Hin, Prachuab Kirikhan because Hua Hin is one of the leading tourist places in Thailand which is quite popular among foreign tourists,” disclosed Mr.Suebchai Chainuvati, President of Skeet and Trap Shooting Association of Thailand.

An Ironman Triathlon is one of a series of longdistance triathlon races organized by the World Triathlon Corporation (WTC) consisting of a 2.4-mile (3.86 km) swim, a 112-mile (180.25 km) bike and a marathon 42.195-kilometre (26.219 mi) run, raced in that order and without a break. Most Ironman events have a strict time limit of 17 hours to complete the race, where the Ironman race starts at 7 AM, the mandatory swim cut off for the 2.4-mile (3.9 km) swim is 2 hours 20 minutes, the bike cut off time is 5:30 PM, and all finishers must complete their marathon by midnight.

The name Ironman Triathlon refers to both the original Ironman triathlon and the annual Ironman World Championship. Also called Ironman Hawaii, the world championships of the event, held annually in Hawaii since 1978 (with an additional race in 1982), are now preceded by a series of qualifying events.

Ironman Triathlon became known for its grueling length, harsh race conditions, and television coverage.

Training at the world-class sporting facilities under thetutelage of the TSLC’s resident triathlete superstar and holder of arecordbreaking eight worldwide Ironman titles, Jürgen “Zäck Attack”Zäck, the 31-year old marketing executive smashed his way through thecelebrated Ironman World Championship in Kailua-Kona, Hawaii in just over11 hours.

This remarkable achievement, where Ray competed againstsome of the world’s leading triathlon competitors, comes after the TSLCrecognised his strong potential to excel in the sport and were driven tocontribute to his development. The decision to sponsor Rayallowed the TSLC to support a budding local sports star who could makePhuket’s and, indeed, Thailand’s, sporting community proud.

Earlier in the yearRay raced in the Ironman 70.3 Philippines on 14 August 2011, which offeredtop age group finishers 30 qualifying slots for the Ford Ironman WorldChampionship in Kailua-Kona, Hawaii, as well as qualifying slots for the Ironman 70.3 World Championship in Lake Las Vegas. His performance –finishing fifth in his age group and 29th overall in a time of 4 hours, 46minutes and 41 seconds, among a field of almost 700 triathletes – saw himscoop qualifying slots to both World Championships.

Ray’sinspirational feat in Hawaii comes just weeks after he completed theIronman 70.3 World Championship in Las Vegas; competing in both events inthe same year is regarded in the sporting world as an incredibleachievement.

The annual Ironman World Championship in Hawaiicomprises a 3.8km swim, 180.2km bike ride and 42.1km marathon and isconsidered the ultimate triathlon challenge and the world’s mostchallenging one-day endurance event.

Ray crossed the Konafinishing line after 11 hours, four minutes and 35 seconds. He swam for 1hour, 14 minutes, biked for 5 hours, 48 minutes and ran the marathon in 3hours, 51 minutes. As well as his personal talent, drive and passion, heacknowledges his achievement can also be attributed to the training hereceived.

“Being able to represent Thailand and TSLC at thesesporting events has been a real honour and a great learning experience,”he said. “I was racing against the world’s elite Ironmen and I am nowaware of the commitment and training you must do to race competitively atthis level.

I am happy to be back in Phuket to prepare for the triathlonseason here, and I’m so grateful to keep training with great people likeJürgen Zäck as I would love to become a regular competitor on the Ironmancircuit.”

Ray’s other sporting achievements in 2010 includebeing placed third in his age group in the Laguna Phuket full marathon, aswell as being the second placed Thai athlete in the Laguna Phuket Triathlonand the first Thai finisher in the Ironman 70.3 Asia-Pacific Championshiptriathlon at Laguna Phuket. In April this year, he took part in theSingapore Ironman 70.3 triathlon in four hours and 49 minutes, where hetook tenth place in his age group.

A sandbag dike must be Tourist Police in Thailand built properly to prevent S or reduce flood damage

anaging Volunteers.Since a dike will fail if not built correctly, training people on proper procedures for placing sandbags is very important. In the rush, volunteers will do something, but the result frequently is a dike that performs poorly or fails. Put a high priority on planning and organization. Identifying a supervisor for the project is recommended.

Sandbags Bags are made from various materials, but the most common is woven polypropylene. They usually measure about 14 inches wide and 24 to 26 inches long. Other sizes of bags also are available, but bags are easier to handle if their weight with filling in them is limited to 35 to 40 pounds.Sand is the easiest material for filling and shaping sandbags. Silt and clay in bags will form a good dike, but working with those materials is more difficult. Fill sandbags slightly more than one-half full. Contact your county emergency management office for information on where to obtain sandbags.

Site Selection. When selecting the location for the dike, take advantage of natural land features that keep the dike as short and low as possible. Avoid obstructions that would weaken the dike. Do not build the dike against a building wall due to the forces the dike may place on the building. Leave at least 8 feet to maneuver between the dike and buildings for observation, pumping seepage water and other activities.Since friction holds a dike from sliding, create a good bond between the ground and the dike. Remove ice and snow since it will melt permitting water to flow under the dike. Remove anything else that is “slippery.”

If the dike is to be more than about 3 feet high, dig a bonding trench where the dike will be placed if possible. The trench should be about 4 to 6 inches deep and 18 to 24 inches wide.

Estimate Sandbags Needed Build the dike at least 1 foot higher than the projected crest level to allow for fluctuations in the water level. Local experience will assist in determining the amount of freeboard to provide.The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers recommends building a dike with a width at the base that is three times the dike height. For example, a 4-foot-high dike would have a base width of 12 feet. The corps indicates that each foot of finished dike length requires one bag, each foot of height requires three bags, and each 2.5 feet of width requires three bags. This results in each bag having placed dimensions of about 4 inches high by 10 inches wide by 14 inches long.

Use the following equation to estimate the number of bags required per linear foot of dike for a dike with a base width that is three times the height. N = (3 x H) + (9 x H x H) / 2,N -- Number of bags required per linear foot of dike ,H -- Dike height (feet) The estimated number of bags needed for 100 linear feet of dike is:1-foot-high dike: 600 ,2-foot-high dike: 2,100 ,3-foot-high dike: 4,500 ,4-foot-high dike: 7,800 A common recommendation is to make the dike twice as wide as its height. This is a minimum width-to-height ratio that should be used. The estimated number of bags needed for this ratio is in the following table. This is based on each bag having placed dimensions of about 4 to 5 inches high by 9 to 10 inches wide by 14 inches long.

A cubic yard will fill about 100 30-pound sandbags or about 75 40-pound bags, assuming the sand weighs 110 pounds per cubic foot.

Sand weighs 100 to 130 pounds per cubic foot, depending on moisture content and packing. A cubic yard is 27 cubic feet. Each 14-inch by 24-inch bag will hold about 0.4 cubic feet if filled about one-half full. Based on volume, each yard will fill about 67 bags one-half full.

Filling Sandbags Fill the bags about one-half full and tie the bag near the top, if it is tied, which permits the sand to move easily in the bag to create a good dike. Overfilled bags and bags tied too low leave gaps in the dike, which allows water to seep through. Sandbags do not need to be tied unless they are transported.

Filling sandbags usually is a two-person operation. One member of the team holds the bag on the ground slightly in front of his or her spread feet and the second shovels the sand into the bag. Use gloves to protect the bag holder’s hands. The use of safety goggles is desirable, especially during dry and windy days. For large-scale operations, filling sandbags can be expedited by using bag-holding racks, funnels on the back of dump trucks used for sanding operations and various powers loading equipment. However, the special equipment required is not always available during an emergency.

Some time ago a German couple visited the Kingdom of Thailand for a holiday and chose to stay at a beachside town. During their stay they rented a beach front apartment from a landlady that they had contacted from an internet advertisement. Over the next few weeks they enjoyed their time off and soaked in the sun on the sea shore, but when it came time for the couple to return home. The couple was shocked to find that the deposit they had put down for the apartment was not going to be returned. The landlady had complained to them when she checked the room that there was some damage done and that the deposit will be taken as collateral.

The German man being sure that the damage she had specified was not caused by him or his partner argued his case, but the landlady would not listen. Being sure he was being cheated the German man did not know what to do, he did not want to lose his deposit and he would be leaving the country in the next couple of days.

Stacking Sandbags Lift bags using your legs and limit twisting of your back. Gently hand the sandbag to the next person in a sandbag brigade or line. A triangular or pyramid shape for the dike is not necessary if the height will be 1 foot or less. Support the wall of sandbags with “clusters” of bags every 5 feet to stabilize the sandbag wall so it does not tip over from the force exerted by the floodwater.Place the first layer of bags lengthwise on the dike (parallel to the flow), lapping the bags so the filled portion of one bag lies on the unfilled portion of the next, with the tied or open end of the bag facing downstream. Offset adjacent rows or layers by one-half bag length to eliminate continuous joints, similar to what is done laying bricks. Compact and shape each bag by walking on it to develop dike strength and create a tight seal. Continue to walk on the bags as succeeding layers are placed.

for help, tried to persuade the German man not to fight and just let the situation be. The German woman also did not want to get caught up in a foreign justice system that they did not understand. But the man was quite adamant of being right and tried to at least find a solution to their problem.

Using the internet the German man found the Tourist Police hotline and contacted the number immediately. He explained their situation and arranged to have an officer come to help resolve the case. When the officer arrived the German man told the story to him again and asked the officer to speak with the landlady. After hearing both sides of the story the officer reported in with the station with the details he had gathered.

In the response he found that the landlady had a record of manipulating foreign clients out of their deposit through unfair means and that the German couple was not the first victims of this scheme. Returning with this evidence the Tourist Police officer confronted the landlady and questioned her about it.

Knowing that this could lead to severe legal problems the landlady promptly returned the deposit and apologized to the couple.

Thai Government Incentive : Thai Eco-Car Project Small Cars Comparison

ike a mythical Phoenix bird that never dies and is able to rise from ashes, the latest rumour is that the previous generation Honda City will be revived by Honda Automobiles Thailand as the basis of their new Eco-Car. If the rumour is true, Honda is not the only one tweaking and reengineering its older models and sending out into the sales battle field again as an affordable car for developing markets.

Earlier, we have also seen how Ford revived and “repackaged” its outgoing European Fiesta model as the Figo for developing markets.

The Eco-Car is a long term project of the Thai government to remodel their automotive manufacturing hub, expanding away from their current truck centric model to include green cars. Under the scheme, heavy tax incentives will be provided to car manufacturers who invest USD 150 million in manufacturing of vehicles that meet the following key criteria fuel consumption of 20km per litre of fuel with petrol engines below 1.3-litre (or 1.4-litre diesel) and emits no more than 120g/km of CO2.

On top of the, annual production volume must reach at least 100,000 units per year by the 5th year of operation. Read more here.

It is still unclear to what extent the similarities will end and how much underlying components will be reused (of course with newer updates to them), but it is expected that there will be very minimal exterior similarities between Honda’s new 4-door eco-car sedan and the previous generation City. The previous

generation City is known to be a fuel miser.

With a little more tweaks and addition of “mild hybrid” components (i.e. auto engine start-stop, regenerative braking) and some aero and weight saving tweaks, meeting the 20kpl should not be too difficult.

If the rumour is true, positioning the model could be a bit tricky. It could be priced lower in Thailand due to the government incentive, but what about the export destination countries where no such incentive exist?

I don’t think Singapore’s green car incentive is applicable to mild hybrid vehicles with engine start-stop and regenerative braking functions only. So will the model be priced above or below a standard City? Those mild hybrid components will bump up the price premium, but would anyone want to pay more for a car based on an older outgoing model? Unless significant differentiation is engineered into it.

oogle’s Galaxy Nexus is the latest addition to this year’s hot smartphone line-up, alongside the iPhone 4S and the Droid RAZR. Unveiled last night, the Galaxy Nexus, manufactured by Samsung, embodies Google’s idea of the perfect smartphone, together with the brand-new Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich mobile OS. But does the Galaxy Nexus stand a chance against Apple’s iPhone 4S, which is currently selling like hot cakes, or the skinny Droid RAZR, also unveiled this week?

The first thing you’ll notice on the Galaxy Nexus is the huge, curved 4.65-inch display, which is larger than the 4.3-inch one found on the Droid RAZR, and considerably bigger than the 3.5-inch display on the iPhone 4S. The Galaxy Nexus display doesn’t skimp on pixel density either; it has a 1280- by-720 pixel resolution, the highest in the comparison. The iPhone display however, still retains the highest pixel density at 330 ppi, a slight lead over the 316 ppi screen of the Galaxy Nexus.

The Galaxy Nexus is also very thin, but not thinner than the Droid RAZR (8.84 mm on the Nexus compared to 7.1 mm on the RAZR), which makes the iPhone 4S look a bit bulky at 9.3 mm. The Droid RAZR is also the lightest smartphone out of the bunch at 127 grams, while the iPhone 4S is the most compact given its smaller screen size.

Inside, the Galaxy Nexus, the Droid RAZR and the iPhone 4S run on the latest dual-core processors, namely 1.2GHz dual-core on the Android side, and 1GHz dual-core on the iPhone 4S. The Android phones also run on 1GB of RAM, while the iPhone 4S features half that amount. As for storage, all three phones come with 16GB of built-in memory, so you have plenty of space for your apps and media. The Galaxy Nexus and iPhone 4S come in 32GB flavors, too, or even up to 64GB at the high end for the 4S, which doesn’t have a MicroSD card slot for expandable storage. The Droid RAZR also comes with a 16GB MicroSD card included, so the total of bundled storage is bumped to 32GB. In the multimedia department, you won’t run out of options with either of these phones. The Droid RAZR and the iPhone 4S have 8-megapixel cameras at the back that can record full HD 1080p video. The Galaxy Nexus can also record 1080p video, but, surprisingly, Samsung put only a 5-megapixel shooter on Google’s

phone, which is less than what we have seen on other phones from the manufacturer, such as the Galaxy SII. All three phones also have video chat cameras on the front.

If you’re looking for extra tricks from your phone, the Galaxy Nexus might be what you’re looking for. Out of the three phones, the Nexus is the only device with Near Field Communication support, which allows you to make wireless payments (at a small, but growing list of retailers), as well as to beam contacts, websites, apps or maps to other NFC-enabled devices by just bringing the phones together and making them touch.

pearheaded by Chef Kai Oliver Kauder and his team , Hua Hin Today was invited to review a brand new menue now offered at the Ciao beach restaurant. A journey through the best of Italy and Chef Kai. Set in a huge Sala with beach views, the Ciao faces the Gulf of Siam, known for it´s Italian dishes and Pizzas. Chef Kai added a selection of menues to attract more Thai guests with different dishes of his own creation.

A Land & Sea specialty menue was created… call it Turf and Surf if you may. The menue reveals a variety of Mediterranean orientated dishes with traditional but refined country selections. As a starter, we indulged in some beautiful Baked Mussels covered with Mozzarella cheese and a spiced but not spicy tomato sauce (Tomato is the basic vegetable of all sauces in Bella Italia) and fresh basil and parsley. This dish was the beginning of a journey which promised to be much more than

just a simple food review. The mussels were as fresh as we could imagine, warning us of the dishes to come.

Next , Poached Skate wing, popularly known as Sting Ray, gently served alongside a white butter “ Beurre Blanc” sauce , clams, scallops , baby squid, Parma ham, green asparagus and marinated tomatoes. This was pure seafood heaven. We enjoyed the taste of tradition and yet this was a creation on it´s own. The Skate wings were as soft as we could imagine and nevertheless with a texture indicating freshness.

As a main course , the Smoked Duck Breast from their own smoking house, as it is called in professional circles, together with the Duck Liver, gently fried in butter and Celery puree with black truffle foam and baby potatoes was as astonishing in views as it was in taste. When we thought it was all over , Kai had the Lamb Shoulder and the Lobster Ravioli brought in. Hardly any space left for these menues , we hardly had to force ourselves to try these delicious dishes. The Lamb Shoulder, on a bed of Polenta with fresh Thyme , sun dried tomatoes, goat cheese, a naughty dash of lavender herbs, black olives and a dark several times reduced lamb sauce made from a precious fond, would have been enough to feed our gourmand behavior but we wouldn´t have want to miss it.

The Rock Lobster Ravioli with spicy tomato foam and a Basil Pesto rounded off our Gourmetic review with a small exception which was served after the food…The Desserts consisting of Crème Brulée and a Chocolate Soufflé filled with a creamy liquidy chocolate sauce. All with a double Espresso and we had the best Lunch/Dinner one could imagine. A selection of white and red Italian wines will be recommended to accompany your menue.

Surprisingly, the price was very acceptable as the quality is absolutely superb !

IQ ‘can change in teenage years’

he mental ability of teenagers can improve or decline on a far greater scale than previously thought, according to new research.

Until now the assumption has been that intellectual capacity, as measured by IQ, stays quite static during life.

But tests conducted on teenagers at an average age of 14 and then repeated when their average age was nearly 18 found improvements - and deterioration.

The findings are published in the journal Nature. They have implications for how pupils are assessed, and the age at which decisions about their futures are made.

This study involved 19 boys and 14 girls, all undergoing a combination of brain scans and verbal and non-verbal IQ tests in 2004 and then in 2008.

The results show that a change in verbal IQ

was found in 39% of the teenagers, with 21% showing a change in “performance IQ” - a test of spatial reasoning.

The findings are seen to have greater validity because for the first time the variations in IQ correlated with changes in two particular areas of the teenagers’ brains.

An increase in verbal IQ corresponded with a growth in the density of part of the left motor cortex - a region activated during speech.

And an increase in non-verbal IQ correlated with a rise in the density of the anterior cerebellum - an area associated with movements of the hand.

The work was led by Professor Cathy Price of the Wellcome Trust Centre for Neuroimaging at University College London and is published in the journal Nature.

The paper suggests that the results could be “encouraging to those whose intellectual potential may improve and… a warning that early achievers may not maintain their potential”.

Professor Price said: “We have a tendency to assess children and determine the course of their education relatively early in life.

“But here we have shown that their intelligence is likely to be still developing.

“We have to be careful not

to write off poorer performers at an early age when in fact their IQ may improve significantly given a few more years.”

The research did not seek to understand the causes of the changes.

One explanation is that teenagers mature at relatively different ages - with “early” and “late” developers - while relative standards in education may play a part too.

One of the participants, Sebastian Friston, now aged 23, recorded a marked increase in IQ between the two tests - from average to one of the highest categories.

Educated in the state sector, he told me he had

struggled in his early years, needing remedial maths tuition, but is now planning a doctorate in computer engineering.

“I think the change came in school I started doing subjects that really interested me, that I was engaged in, then I found it easier and far more interesting.”

The research was funded by the Wellcome Trust, one of many projects supported under its programme of Understanding the Brain.

Future work may focus on how adaptable the brain may be beyond teenage years, and the implications for tackling mental diseases and other neurological conditions.

Study time for senior execs Fringe Festival 2011/12

he College of Management Mahidol University (CMMU) has joined forces with MIT Sloan School of Management to introduce a cutting-edge senior executive education programme in Thailand.

CMMU’s executive programme director Natwut Amornvivat said the institute made the decision to enter the senior-executive education arena following requests from some top Thai executives who would like to prepare their businesses to cope with the threats and opportunities arising out of the Asean Economic Community that comes into effect in 2015.

But instead of launching a “general CEO skills” course, CMMU is slanting its programme differently, by laying emphasis on strategies and innovation which are considered crucial areas for firms to compete effectively in today’s business environment, and its partnership with the Massachusetts Institute of Technology’s business school unit which specialises in both areas, he said.

John Akula, faculty director of MIT Sloan School of Management, said that according to his knowledge, the so-called Strategy and Innovation for Businesses in Asia (SIBA) programme is the first major executive education programme in which the US business school was partnering a Thai university.

“It appears to me that Asia is becoming a focal point for innovation. The speed of innovation in every part of the world is distinguished. I don’t think the American model can be applied everywhere in the world. But we can learn a great deal from each other,” he said.

Targeted at “C-level” executives and business owners, the SIBA course is designed as a project-based executive programme that can offer very tangible benefits to attendants, CMMU’s deputy dean for academic services, assistant professor Vichita Ractham, said.

“It’s not just about attending the class and going abroad; we want to provide tangible benefits [to the execs]. It’s more like a consultancy project customised to the Asean context where participants can bring up specific company cases under the supervision of MIT and CMMU faculty members,” she said.Natwut said that SIBA students - limited to 30 participants - would also have the privilege of interacting with prominent Thai chief executives who would be sharing their reallife experiences in the SIBA class.

Among the top shots are Bangkok Bank president Chartsiri Sophonpanich, former deputy finance minister and Bank of Thailand governor Chaiwat Vibulsawasdi, Stock Exchange of Thailand president Charamporn Jotikasthira, former deputy prime minister and finance minister Somkid Jatusripitak, former commerce minister Narongchai Akkaraseranee, Siam Cement Group chief executive Kan Trakulhoon, PTT chief executive Pailin Chuchottaworn, and Intouch executive chairman Somprasong Boonyachai. The SIBA programme comprises five days of classes in Bangkok and four days at Sloan. After that, participants will have two months of project assignments at their respective companies and return to the class to wrap up their projects. The chief executives and directors of their companies will be invited to hear the cases.

Commencing next February, the SIBA programme will accept the first round of applications late this month.

Enrolment fee is Bt590,000.

Natwut said the SIBA course would also emphasise “managing up”, which has become a necessary skill for successful managers nowadays.

Among the MIT lecturers who will deliver the SIBA programme are professor Arnoldo Hax, an internationally known expert in the fields of strategic management and operations management. He proposed the “Delta Model”, reflecting a new paradigm shift in modern business strategy from “I win, you lose” of the olden days to the present era where winners excel in collaborating with other stakeholders to build the socalled “eco system”.

SIBA course participants can recruit top students during their visit to the MIT campus and also visit an innovative company in the Boston area, Natwut added.

uaHin has its own Fringe Festival. After last year’s joint staging in Bangkok and HuaHin, the beautiful beach resort is now the only venue. With artitsts and performances from all over the world, and of course Thailand, this year’s program is unique and has something for everyones taste. The current Fringe Festival runs from 12th November 2011 – 25th February 2012.

The Fringe Festival 2011/12 will be held at the amazing venue, Vic HuaHin, under the guidance of artistic director KhunPatravadiMejudhon. It is supported by the Office of Contemporary Arts and Culture at the Thai Ministry of Culture.

The festival will begin on the 12th November 2011 with the Japanese Contemporary Dance Theatre’s rendition of “Three Sisters“ by PappaTarahumara. It revisits Anton Chekov’s literary classic, set in rural Japan during the 1960s. This performance is supported by the Tokyo Metropolitan Government.

Khun Patravadi’s own production, “PhraLor” will be performed twice: 19th November at 7.30 pm and on 20th November at 6 pm. It is an epic love story, written in poetic verse by one of the kings during Thailand’s Ayudhya period. Over the centuries there have been many songs composed using the poetry from this book as lyrics. We would like to present some of these in this production, with a new interpretation, featuring a modern generation of artists playing both Thai and Western musical instruments. Written, directed and performed by KhunPatravadi herself. For December 3rd we have invited the Urban Bones Dance Company from Bangkok to do three pieces: “Entre-mains”, “Haiku” and “Morphoses”. The evening called “La Danse” shows the richness of French choreography and its heritage from the 20th century.

Our next guest travels from the UK to Thailand to perform his one-man piece “SPACE”.

Timothy Mann is an actor, writer, musician and video editor who joined the theatre company Nose2Nose in 2006. He will ask the infinite question, “What is SPACE?”... and maybe also find an answer.A co-production with the Festival La Fête, Bangkok, will be the final event of the Fringe Festival: “PichetKlunchun and Myself”, performed by the French artist JérômeBel and the Thai dancer PichetKlunchun. We will see a combination of traditional Khon and modern Dance, to close the festival on February 25th 2012.

Spa Manager Janyarak Fernando said the majority of the spa guests are golfers or club members looking to relax and soothe sore muscles after a day on the greens, but her hope is to encourage Hua Hin locals and visiting tourists to also make the journey to the spa. “Some of our guests don’t even know we are here. Its important to know our services are at a five star hotel level, but the prices are lower, affordable,” Fernando said. While the Black Mountain Spa doesn’t have the beachfront appeal as many of the top resorts in Hua Hin, the removed location offers its own kind of transformative powers.

The road to the resort weaves past pineapple farms, roadside stands and miles of towering trees that mercifully shade the road from the intense sun. As soon as you leave the confines of Hua Hin town, its clear the Black Mountain Spa location is anything but inconvenient. It provides a slow, peaceful journey into relaxation.

The resort, which is under a period of widespread renovation, is buzzing with friendly staff, but the low season lull of empty terraces and soft music give the resort an eerie feel.

The well-marked spa, located just beyond the locker rooms, is easy to find. The classic tropical lodge décor is inviting and instantly soothing. The spa (open 09:00 to 17:30) offers several signature treatments including aromatherapy, Swedish/Thai massages, herbal massages, and tropical salt scrubs, and several mud baths/wraps.

“I like our hot treatments like the hot stone massage or steam or body, mud wrap. Very relaxing,” Fernando said. Fernando said she has used her eight years of spa management experience to create the unique menu of relaxation and rejuvenation treatments offered at the Black Mountain Spa. “Our treatments are special. I create everything. I want to create a special experience for guests. My staff knows every detail. They have good service and very professional,” Fernando said. The spa has five treatment rooms, two available for private treatments, one deluxe treatment room equipped with Jacuzzi, and one Thai massage room. “Our spa products are exclusive. There is no counter in department stores. They are specific for spa,” Fernando said. In addition to the future renovations to the Black Mountain Golf Club complex, Fernando said the spa will also soon offer more than the basic spa facility. She said a new holistic medical spa will open sometime next year.

“We want to offer yoga, Pilates, acupuncture medical spa treatments like this to have a holistic spa,” Fernando said. Fernando said the Black Mountain Spa promotion for the month of November is the BMG signature spa treatment, (90 minutes treatment for 700 THB). The BMG Signature treatment includes a body brushing, aromatherapy oil back massage, full body brown sugar antiseptic scrub, a brief Thai massage, soothing application of body lotion and finally, a scalp massage.

“It’s meant to be a sample of our treatments, like a welcome package. We want customers to try the BMG package, so they see what we can do and then come back again and again,” Fernando said.

My BMG package treatment beginning with the body brushing was a new unique experience, which was both rough and invigorating. The aromatherapy oil massage was pleasant and a bit of a tease as it only covered the back. The best aspect of the package was, without a doubt, the brown sugar antiseptic scrub, which unlike most body scrubs was very rough. Every inch of my skin was properly exfoliated and buffed smooth by the large raw sugar granules.

After a long, hot shower, I enjoyed benefits of the brief Thai massage, which stretched and soothed my muscles. As the masseuse stretched each limb, she generously applied soothing body lotion to moistures my tender exfoliated skin. The final scalp massage sent me into a deep state of relaxation that ended all too soon. The BMG package accomplished its purpose and left me relaxed, yet longing for more.

ape Nidrha is a fairly new Boutique Hotel on Petschkasem road opposite the San Paolo Hospital.

My first impression was” Boutique” … car parking underneath the reception area with an open reception, environmental friendly and kept simple. The Spa is also located subterranean and the treatment rooms even further down in the cellar with outside light coming in from above.

Spa reception was very friendly and professional. I was given a choice but I really had no choice as the treatment facing me was a rejuvenating , anti aging men´s special. With my conscious pressing me about my appearance, editors must look smart, my choice was clear. My therapist washed my feet as usual and I wish she could have continued another 15 minutes.

However, she indicated me to undress, put on the black widow killer and lay on my tummy for the back massage I had requested before she started to beautify what was left of my aging face.

She spontaraneously discovered knots in my back muscles and used her elbows to flatten them out. I did chose “strong” massage so she decided to walk over my back , which was , taking into account that she only weighed 45 kilos , a treat ! After my abdomen and legs , arms were done , the facial part was about to take place.

My face was carefully and gently cleansed with a refreshing gel., scrubbed gently ,

Winter in Thailand is very mild but it can be accompanied by some unwelcome visitors, including Influenza viruses. Almost every year there are outbreaks of this unpleasant disease, part of a worldwide epidemic. Some of the bugs are worse than others and become famous and the epidemic gets a name; in 191819 there was the Spanish flu, in 57-58 the Asian flu and in 68-69 the Hong Kong flu. It is a long time since the last major epidemic; we are overdue for another.

Influenza, commonly called the flu, is a highly contagious viral infection of the respiratory tract. It is spread rapidly from person to person.

Compared to other viral infections such as the common cold it can be a very severe illness and can progress to pneumonia. The elderly and chronically ill are at particular risk.

The flu is a particularly clever virus. Each year it comes back in a slightly different form, so that the antibodies formed against previous flu attacks do not protect us. It is as if the virus changes its overcoat and puts on dark glasses;

it’s the same old flu but the immune system does not recognize it.

Where does the flu start? Most of the new variations evolve, in the province of Guangdong in south China. It is thought that the proximity of humans, pigs and ducks living together assist the flu bugs to pass from species to species and undergo the changes that make them unique. The American Center for Disease Control (CDC) monitors the outbreaks each year and has teams in the area, year round, testing patients and identifying the viruses. In recent years the epidemics have been with relatively mild viruses but one of these years, and it could be this year, we are going to have a more severe form.

The Avian flu (Chicken Flu) that you have heard about is an entirely different problem from the regular flu. The virus is NOT very infective to humans and at the present time there are no human-to-human transmissions documented.. The best advice is to keep away from LIVE chickens, wash chicken before cooking and clean the counters and implements well afterwards. Be sure to wash

By now I asked for a mirror in case my identity was removed as well. Several layers of a pore cleansing gel had to dry off before she could peel it and remove all the dirt that had collected below my normal skin over the last 50 years.

I felt a lot better , fresher and this was something to repeat.

What I missed was a line of products to purchase to follow up the treatment, but then again , both treatments put you back almost 4000 Baht for 90 minutes of treatment. I guess following up yourself with healthy food, no smoking and avoid a longer period of exposure to the sun will keep you healthy and fresh looking. Have fun refreshes the spirit and moderate use of alcohol will keep you afloat for a longer time.

If you have the flu you will be debating whether you can make it to the bathroom. A cold comes on slowly; the flu can be very sudden in onset. With a cold you feel tired; with the flu you are exhausted. With a cold you may feel a little achy, with the flu your whole body, even your toenails feel sore. With a cold you may have a mild fever, with the flu you can have a high fever (over 38.5C or 101F) and victims, especially children can have chills.

A severe hacking cough is more typical of a cold than the flu. Nausea and even vomiting is not common with either but loss of appetite is more noticeable with the flu.

Personal Disappearance in Thailand Part I

et’s say you were married in Thailand to a Thai and later split up. Then your spouse goes missing. If you want to remarry, what do you do? How would you remarry?

Remember one thing. In Thailand, if you’re married only in a religious ceremony you don’t have to get divorced if you split up. You only have to get divorced if you’ve been married in a civil ceremony at a district office in Bangkok or at the amphur in the provinces.

So, assuming you were married in a civil ceremony, how could you remarry if your present spouse has really disappeared? Of course he or she has gone somewhere to another country, or perhaps just lives with someone else and is avoiding everybody known in a previous life. Or the person who has disappeared could be dead.

Thai law gives us a solution to your problem. Sections 61 and 62 of the Civil and Commercial Code of Thailand provide that if a person has left home and no one knows

whether he or she has gone for a period of five years, any interested person (such as you, a former spouse) can make an application to a judge. The judge, after looking at the evidence, can make the decision that the person has disappeared. This, in turn, can be used as a ground for terminating the marriage under Section 1565 (5) of the Thai Civil and Commercial Code.

The five-year period can be reduced to two years in three circumstances, namely, if the missing person disappeared as a result of:

a battle or war

a vehicle accident or disappearance. This could include a car crash, ship wreck or plane crash.

some other known peril such as a natural disaster or accident.

How would you get these legal provisions to work? You would obtain as much evidence as you could that the person had disappeared. For example, you might ask the person’s family members to testify that he or she had left home and disappeared. You could also get similar statements from the person’s former employers, neighbors and friends. A judge has wide discretion on what evidence to accept in such a case and can rely on either written or oral testimony.

Your lawyer would then make an application to a judge.

If the judge agreed with the evidence you had gathered, he or she would issue an order to the effect that your spouse had disappeared. You would then have to file an application to the court for the dissolution of the marriage, using the ground of disappearance. The court would then issue an order dissolving the marriage.

You could then remarry by showing the amphur or district office a certified copy of the order from the judge.

But what happens if the disappeared person shows up again?

Let’s say, for example, you’ve remarried and a year after the wedding your previous spouse walks in the door, tells you she’s been traveling the world and demands her share of the

earnings of your now-dissolved marriage.

Since the marriage has been dissolved you cannot be accused of bigamy and your earlier marriage will be considered void.

But what if you had only obtained the order of disappearance but not the dissolution of marriage because you hadn’t wanted to remarry—only to cut off your former spouse’s rights in connection with the marriage? The adjudication of disappearance alone will cut off your spouse’s rights under Thai law to claim half of that earned during the marriage or as a statutory heir. Thus your former spouse couldn’t claim these rights. If you had somehow remarried without dissolving the marriage, however, you could be prosecuted for bigamy.

People who are stressed become weaker due to the lack of exercise and too much food, which can cause high blood pressure, as well as high blood sugar and cholesterol levels. Smoking makes it even more likely for the person to have narrowed arteries.

However, if a stressed person deals with stress by exercising rather than smoking and/or bingeing, the chances of developing heart disease isn’t much higher than a non-stressed person. It only matters that you know when you are stressed.

As for anger, it can cause a heart attack because anger raises you blood pressure instantly, especially in emotionally unstable people. The heart will beat faster and blood pressure will go through the roof when you are really angry. You can see that angry people are red-faced. Have someone take a photo of you when you are angry and you will see that you look like you are about to eat someone alive. Older people with heart problems should avoid getting angry. Buddhist meditation is a really good practice to control your anger.

When anger rises, adrenaline is released, making the heart beat faster, the blood pressure rise and the coronary arteries contract. A study was done in fully fed cats who were later angered. It was found that food lingered in their stomachs for three to six hours longer. This means anger can cause indigestion.

Anger makes the heart unclear. It happens when the person encounters something unpleasant. If the emotion cannot be controlled, anger rises.

It can eventually lead to a heart attack. Once anger visits and the person holds on to it (without knowing), it eats the heart up with negative thoughts and bad wishes for the other person, such as hoping for failure and illness to befall the person. Vengeance can also cause stress, which in turn causes narrowing of the arteries _ and you are another step closer to death. By getting angry at someone, it means you allow that person to control your emotions, your sleeping pattern, your appetite, your blood pressure, your health

of yourself. Stay home, stay in bed, and take plenty of water and other fluids. Patients who try to fight it and do not rest can loose out; in the end they are sick and out of work longer than those who take to their beds immediately.

Tylenol or Panadol can be useful if you are feverish.

Antibiotics do NOT kill viruses. Let me repeat that, antibiotics do NOT kill viruses. Taking them by mouth, by injection or intravenously does no good at all. They may, however, be needed if a secondary bacterial infection occurs as the result of having the flu. There are some newer antiviral drugs that if taken very early in the illness can help to modify and shorten the course of the illness. Over-the-counter medication such as cough and cold medicines may help you feel better, but they do not shorten the course of the illness; it usually lasts about a week.

There are many ways to get over anger, but we neglect to consider them because most of the times we don’t even know we are angry. To name a few ways, you can realise the negative effects of anger, have mercy on the person you are angry with and think that it was a result of something you’ve done to the person in the past. Do not respond to anger with anger because it will be your loss.

A patient of mine in his early 50s had chronic high blood pressure. He was rather plump as he didn’t like to exercise. His blood sugar level had also been high for years, but he never had any treatment before he came to see me about a stabbing pain in the right side of his chest, which he often felt after he fought with his wife, and the pain would last five to 10 minutes. Later, he found out it was because of his anger, because whenever he felt angry, he would feel pain in his chest. He solved the problem by walking away from his wife as soon as it started.

You should see a doctor if you have the flu and also have other serious medical conditions, including diabetes, respiratory or cardiac problems. If you have difficulty in breathing, tightness in the chest, wheezing, are coughing up thick sputum, or if your throat is so sore that you have difficulty swallowing then you should see a doctor. All children under two years old should be seen by a pediatrician. Another worrying situation is if a child or adult seem to be improving and then the fever and other symptoms return, it is essential in this situation that they see a doctor.

Every year there are patients who need to be hospitalized due to complications of the flu. Patients with heart or lung problems are particularly at risk of developing these complications. At the Bangkok Hospital Medical Center we see several such patients each year. The design and procedures of the hospital make it very efficient for caring

with balloon angioplasty, but he did not want this, so I gave him some medication to help with the problem. His symptoms persisted (did his wife follow him when he walked away?), so he had be admitted to hospital.

He still refused a contrast agent injection. He told me that he had hearing problems. If he walked away far enough, he wouldn’t hear his wife, and his anger would fade away! Good to know he realised his own anger. One day, he was taken to hospital in the middle of the night due to acute myocardial infarction, a heart attack and protracted chest pain. He said it happened after a fight with his wife yet again! but when he tried to walk away, she followed him. He got so angry that he was shaking, his face turned red (according to his children) and suddenly he was caught by a pain in his chest, and his pills couldn’t help.

That time, he spent more days in the hospital because of acute myocardial infarction and he also had heart failure. His heart was working at only 30% and he needed to depend on urine medication and blood pressure medication for days.

A Doppler colour test did not find any clogging in the heart muscles’ arteries. I assumed that when he got angry, the blood vessels contracted so much that blood did not reach his heart muscles, causing myocardial infarction.

His hearing problem also worsened before he returned home. It could have been a side effect of the treatment. I asked him to see an ear specialist, but he refused.

After that, he did not have any chest pain, but his hearing problem grew worse. I had to yell into his ear to make him understand what I said.

Every time he came to see me, I ended up with a sore throat! However, I noticed that he was much calmer.

His children also said that he no longer fought with his wife. When I asked (at the top of my voice) what his secret was, he shouted back, “It’s easy! My hearing is so bad I can’t hear my wife nag anymore!”

Banyan Golf Club was once again the Venue of choice for the Rotary Club of Royal Hua Hin for the 2nd Annual Charity Golf Event.

The money raised from this event goes directly to support the children of the local community.

In most cases the funds are spent on water filtration systems for the smaller schools.

100 golfers took part in the Texas Scramble event which was a 12 noon shotgun start.

Players arrived early to register for the day and get the official tournament shirt & goodie bag.

Prevention is the key. The CDC identifies the three viruses that are the biggest threat each winter and makes a vaccine against these three bad boys. Is it 100% effective? No, it is not, the authorities do not always get it right and an unsuspected virus may cause an epidemic.

On the other hand it is not true that the shot can misfire and cause an attack of flu. Patients with cardiac or respiratory problems should definitely be vaccinated. There is also a new flu vaccine that is given as a nasal spray, which may be available this year.

When there is a flu epidemic around, you should protect yourself. We used to feel that

infection was entirely due to droplet infection, meaning that you sneeze or cough and viruses are expelled into the air. We now realize that touch is probably more important.

You cough, cover your mouth with your hand, as your mother taught you, and you have viruses on your hand. You then shake hands with someone you meet, they touch their face and the flu virus has another victim. During an epidemic wash your hands compulsively with the special hand disinfectant and greet your friends in the Thai manner, during a flu epidemic a wei is much more suitable than a handshake.

Flood Relief Center in Cha-Am

T

he Cha-Am Municipality has set up an ad hoc Flood Relief center to provide assistance to current flood victims in Thailand. Now open for donation of money and supplies to ease the hardship of those affected by the ravaging flood, the center will provide beach jet skis as additional assistance.

The aim of the center is to unite all Thai people in time of hardship. The Center has already welcomed a lot of local people in Cha-Am who are contributors and supplies which the municipal staff will shortly distribute to those affected by the current flooding throughout Thailand.

Highly concerned about the people living in critical area where the high level of water hinders the donartion of supplies, the Cha-Am Municipality is providing them with jet skis during the flooding period. The distribution was started on October 17, 2011.

Cha-Am’s ‘Wats’ to Foster Traditional Thai Culture on Loy Krathong 2011

By Sorravit เทีย่ วงานลอยกระทงชะอ�ำ ๕๔ E very year on the full moon in November – the 12th month of the traditional Thai lunar calendar – takes place the Loy Krathong festival in which Thai people throughout the country float a sumptuously decorated lotus shaped Krathong in the river, canal for forgiveness and blessing from the water spirit.

Many people believe that floating the Krathong symbolizes floating bad luck away to start over with prosperity.

This year, the Loy Krathong festival in Cha-Am will be joyful and solemn at the same time as it is held at two of the most well-known Buddhist temples in the city: Wat Cha-Am Khiri and Wat Neranchararam. The oldest Buddhist monastery of Cha-Am, Wat Cha-Am Khiri will organizes the Loy Krathong festival on November, 10 with Buddhist ceremony and traditional games as highlights in the morning. The floating of Krathong, cultural performances, music and open air movies are taking place in the evening. All activities are free of charge.

Located close to the Cha-Am beach, Wat Neranchararam, which organizes the Loy Krathong festival every year, will holding for 2 days celebration from November 9-10. The highlight of the festival, Add to be á la Thai retro style, is the evening activities on both days when visitors can experience nostalgic feel of Thai Loy Krathong festival in the old day and enjoy a beauty pageant of young Noppamas ladies, contest of Krathongs, retro Thai classical dance and open air movies.

Floating of Krathong will be done at a pond inside the temple or on the beach.

Visitors and local people are welcomed to the Loy Krathong festival at the two venues.

Cha-Am Commemorates Prince Narathip Praphanphong Day

The commemoration day of Prince Narathip Pranphanphong (shortly known among Thai as Krom Phra Narathip Praphanphong Festival) was organized in Cha-Am on 11 October 2011 with a large number of local people and tourists attending the big event.

Held by the Cha-Am Municipality with cooperation of Sahakham Community, business owners working on Cha-Am beaches and community leaders in the Cha-Am municipal areas, the commemoration day celebrates Prince Narathip Praphanphong, the so-called first community leader of ChaAm who developed and modernized this beachfront city.

Starting at 9.09 a.m. at the statue of Prince Narathip Praphanphong on the Cha-Am beach intersection, the opening ceremony, held in austere Bhraman style to pay homage to the prince, was presided over by the Mayor of ChaAm whilst Khun Chatchai Pin-ngern, the head

of Bhraman astrologers of the Bureau of Royal Household’s Division of Ceremonies, offered the worships with ceremonial background music made by a Bhraman two-faced drum, a gong and a conch shell. After the homage paying ceremony there was a traditional Thai performance accounting the life of the Prince, especially how he successfully pioneered the modernization of Cha-Am. Other performances that followed were Manorah – a stage drama telling the story of a half-bird halffemale human --, and a ‘Mae Jah’ folk dance which has long been practiced and passed on by members of Sahakham Community.

According to the Mayor of Cha-Am, this commemorative festival will take place every year on the 11th of October – the day when the Prince passed away in 1931. Its main aim is to allow Cha-Am people to express gratitude and honor the Father of Cha-Am, without whom this city would not be as developed.

2nd Cha-Am Boat Racing Ends with Solidarity

By Sorravit The 2nd Cha-Am Boat Racing ended already with strong unity and solidarity between organizers from Cha-Am and participants from Hua Hin, Pattaya, Chom Thian and Bang Sean beaches.

The event, coincided with the 2nd Festival of Sea Shell Eating, Bird Watching and Squid Fishing, started on 24 September 2011. It enables all owners of cruises from famous beaches of Thailand, namely Pattaya, Chom Thian, Bang Saen, Hua Hin and Cha-Am, to provide their boats in this activity, symbolizing their strong unity in doing business together.

Moreover, it helps boost tourism in Cha-Am as it makes the city well-known as a venue for national and international sport competitions.

According to the Chairman of the Cha-Am Cruise Club Mr. Wipaspong Apirakwong, the 2nd Cha-Am Boat Racing includes 7 types of boats: Small Suite, Speed Boat Open, Open 30, Open 40, Lak Kluay 30, Lak Kluay 40 and Standard.

This activity will not be successful without cooperation and sponsorship throughout from the Cha-Am Municipality, the Cha-Am Cruise Club, the Singha Corporation and many other sponsors from Cha-Am and other provinces of Thailand.

Followings are the results of the competition categorized by the types of participating boats: 1. Small Suite Type: A-Ku (Winner), Cha-Am Fiber (1st Runner Up) and Lung Dam Bang Saen (2nd Runner Up) 2. Speed Boat Open: Saeng Thai Seafood (Winner), Ya Sin (1st Runner Up) and Bang

เมือ่ วันที่ ๒๔ กันยายน ๒๕๕๔ ณ ชายหาดชะอ�ำ นายนุกลู พรสมบูรณ์ศริ ิ นายกเทศมนตรีเมืองชะอ�ำ เป็นประธานเปิด Sib Meun, Mong Khol Chom Thian การแข่งขันเรือทะเลชะอ�ำ ครัง้ ที่ ๒ ซึง่ เป็นกิจกรรมทีจ่ ดั ขึน้ พร้อมกับวันเปิดงานเทศกาลกินหอย ดูนก ตกหมึก ชะอ�ำ เป็นปีที่ ๒ (2nd Runner Up) โดยการจัดการแข่งขันในครัง้ นี้ เป็นการรวบรวมผูใ้ ห้บริการเรือส�ำราญชายหาดทีม่ ชี อื่ เสียงระดับประเทศ อาทิ พัทยา จอมเทียน บาง 3. Open 30: Chokjarukit (Winner), Kamlai แสน หัวหิน และชะอ�ำ น�ำเรือทีใ่ ห้บริการเข้าร่วมการแข่งขัน Kaew (1st Runner Up) and Lung Ku

hailand’s worst flood in decades – this problem is very overwhelming and Hotel de la Paix (formerly The Hotel Cha Am) aim to help and support the victims. Our staffs gather all the goods and donate to Petchaburi labour department. Additionally we also donate the sum of 65,750 THB to Petchaburi provincial hall. This money will go to help flood victims in Nontaburi province according to Khun. Chumporn Sangmanee, deputy of Petchaburi governor said. Hotel de pa Paix management and associates hope we can support them and recover as soon as possible.

To answer these questions, simply say “dai” for “Yes, I can.” and “mai dai” for “No, I can’t.” For example, Q: Can you sing?
