he RICD Wheelchair Project based at the Rajanagarindra Institute for Child Development (RICD) in Chiang Mai supports poor people with disability all over Thailand, by giving them mobility aid in order to improve the quality of their lives. The RICD Wheelchair Project is a Royal Project under the Royal Patronage of H.R.H. Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn, which means that all appliances must be given free of charge to the beneficiaries. Currently many poor people with disability can-not afford to buy the necessary appliances. Hua Hin- Minachai Srichanya, Golf Course Superintendant Banyan Golf Club, Hua Hin lead the golf course attendant team from Banyan Golf Club, Hua Hin to prepare the playing surface for the elephants polo which has been held on 5th – 11th September, 2011 at Suriyothai camp. Minachai said “Now at the golf course, we know what to damage to expect from maintenance equipment, golf cart & general play traffic. But Elephants we were now sure about. We are happy to report that the filed held up very well to the all the Elephant Polo
play and the players & organizers were very impressed. The field was mowed twice per day during the event and line marking were refreshed every 2 days. The turf looked so good, the Elephants started to eat the pitch”. The Elephant Polo was a fun event for us to be involved in, and it provided visitors to Thailand the opportunity to get up close to one of our most beautiful animals. Money raised during the week-long event will go to the King’s Elephant Foundation to raise awareness of the need for protection of the Elephant and its habitat.

Hua Hin to Campaign on
Beautiful Roads & Lively City

he Bureau of Policy planning on Natural Resources and Environment, with cooperation of the Prachuab Khirikhan Governor, the Hua Hin Municipality and concerned governmental agencies, will launch the Beautiful Road-Lively City campaign in Hua Hin municipal areas from August to the end of the year. A part of the program entitled, “Doing Good for Thailand: Love Hua Hin, Love Environment,” this campaign covers the area on Petchkasem Road, starting from Hua Hin Airport to ChivaSom Resort as well as the corner of Nong Kae, Baan Takiab and Khao Tao areas. Any billboards blocking the road will be removed. Trees will be trimmed from time to time. On both side of the road should be decorated by some plants and any scattering electricity posts must be arranged in good order. According to Ms. Nisakorn Kositarat, the Secretary-General of the Bureau of Policy and Planning on Natural Resources and Environment, the Mayor of Hua Hin is now seeking cooperation from concerned governmental offices as well as owners of hotels, guesthouses, condos, shops, restaurants, offices and department stores in Hua Hin. Moreover, enforcement of municipal laws will be carried out to control billboard and sign arrangement and removal of damaged signs. Buildings will also be asked to decorate themselves with a Thai flag or the flag symbolizing His Majesty the King. In terms of environmental activities under this campaign, more plants will be grown in mangrove forests of Khao Krailas and Baan Takiab Communities as well as areas along the foot of the hill in Hua Hin. Doing so will help solve the problem on global warming, an issue of concern in Thailand and many other countries.
Ms. Nisakorn added that Hua Hin was also facing problems on carbon emission from cars which affected life of the people. Should bicycles be used more, it will promote good health in the city. “Thailand is currently using petrol up to 6% of the national GDP. This is a lot. So, cooperation from governmental, private and local agencies is required to find other alternative energy sources that do not harm our environment. As a representative of Thailand, I’ll present the Beautiful Road-Lively City campaign to the United Nations so that they’ll realize how actively Hua Hin works on and responds to solving global warming,” concluded the Secretary-General of the Bureau of Policy and Planning on Natural Resources and Environment. Editor Note : It would be even more beautifull if the roads goin off from Petchkasem Road would be repaired and paved.

Suan Dusit Hua Hin Kicks off 3rd Thai-Chinese Exchange Program

Suan Dusit Rajabhat University (Hua Hin Campus) has recently launched the 3rd Thai-Chinese exchange program to strengthen educational relation between Thailand and China, promote use of Thai and Chinese and knowledge on culture of the two nations. According to the Director of the Suan Dusit Rachabhat University (Hua Hin Campus) Dr. Suraphol Siriset, the University welcomed Chinese 20 students from the Kui Lin University on Tourism in Quang Xi, China, in August. The students will stay here for one year and learn how to speak and teach Thai while acculturate themselves with 20 Thai students. In return, the Chinese students will teach their language to the Thai ones.

ในเดือนสิงหาคม ทีผ่ า่ นมาทางมหาวิทยาลัยฯ ได้มกี ารรับนักศึกษาแลกเปลีย่ นไทย-จีน จากทางมหาวิทยาลัยท่องเทีย่ วกุย้ หลิน มลฑลกวางสี สาธารณะรัฐประชาชนจีนชาย-หญิง จ�ำนวน 20 คน ในการเข้ามาเรียนกับทางเรานัน้ ก็จะใช้เวลา 1 ปี เรียนรูท้ างด้าน การพูดภาษาไทย หลักสูตรการสอนภาษาไทย การใช้วถิ ชี วี ติ แบบไทยๆ โดยจะมีนกั ศึกษาไทยจ�ำนวน 20 คนประกบแบบตัวต่อตัว เพือ่ ถ่ายทอดความเป็นไทยให้กบั จีนพร้อมกันนีจ้ ะให้ทางจีนนัน้ ถ่ายทอดภาษาจีนให้กบั ทางนักเรียนของเราด้วยเช่นกันและเมือ่ เรียน ไปได้ประมาณ 6-8 เดือน ทางคณะครูอาจารย์ ก็จะจัดหาสถานทีซ่ งึ่ เป็นโรงแรม แหล่งศูนย์บริการนักท่องเทีย่ ว ส่วนราชการ ให้ นักศึกษาเหล่านีเ้ ข้าไปฝึกงานเรียนรูง้ านวิชาชีพทางด้านการโรงแรม การใช้ภาษาไทยโต้ตอบ อีกทัง้ เป็นล่ามภาษาจีนให้กบั นักท่อง เทีย่ วชาวจีนทีเ่ ข้ามาในเมือง ซึง่ ถ้าเจ้าของกิจการใดฯ ทีต่ อ้ งการนักศึกษาจีนเข้าไปฝึกงานในรูปแบบของการท�ำธุรกิจร่วมโดยไม่ตอ้ ง ว่าจ้างแล้วก็ขอให้ตดิ ต่อมาทีม่ หาวิทยาลัยฯ (ศูนย์หวั หิน) ทางเราก็จะได้จดั ไปให้ตามระยะเวลา ซึง่ ขณะนีก้ ม็ อี ยูท่ งั้ หมด 90 คน พร้อมทีจ่ ะเข้าไป ฝึกงานร่วมได้อย่างมีประสิทธิภาพ ส�ำหรับในส่วนของทางมหาวิทยาลัยราชภัฎสวนดุสิต(ศูนย์ หัวหิน)นี้ทางตนเองและทางท่านอธิการมหาวิทยาลัยราชภัฎสวนดุสิต กรุงเทพฯ ก็ได้มกี ารจัดท�ำสัญญา(คอนแทร็ก)กับมหาวิทยาลัยทีม่ ชี อื่ เสียง ของทางสาธารณะรัฐประชาชนจีนอย่างมหาวิทยาลัยท่องเที่ยวกุ้ยหลิน มลฑลกวางสี และล่าสุดก็ได้มหาวิทยาลัยท่องเทีย่ วกุย้ หลิน มาเป้นมหา วิทยาลัย เฟสที่ 3 ซึง่ แต่ละแห่งนัน้ ก็ตอ้ งยอมรับเลยว่าการ การสอนของ ทัง้ หมดนีม้ คี ณ ุ ภาพ เนือ่ งจากแต่ละแห่งนัน้ มีนกั ศึกษาร่วมหนึง่ หมืน่ คนที่ เข้าเรียนในแต่ละปี ดร.สุรพลฯ ยังกล่าวอีกว่า ขณะนีท้ างผูบ้ ริหารของมหาวิทยาลัย ของจีนและรัฐบาลจีนนัน้ ก็ดใี จและภาคภูมใิ จเป็นอย่างมากทีว่ า่ ไทย-จีนเรา นั้นถึงแม้ว่าระบอบการปกครองจะแตกต่างกันแต่เราก็ยังมาแลกเปลี่ยน ทางการศึกษาระหว่างมหาวิทยาลัยซึง่ ในอนาคตนัน้ การศึกษาทางด้านภาษา การเรียนรูท้ างด้านวัฒนธรรมและพูดภาษาจีนได้นนั้ ก็นบั ว่าเป็นสิง่ ทีด่ แี ละ เมือ่ รวมกับรูท้ างด้านภาษาอังกฤษเข้าไป ก็จะท�ำให้เป็นการยกระดับทางด้านคุณภาพทางการศึกษาซึง่ ถ้าเมือ่ จบออกไปในระดับ ปริญญาตรีทมี่ คี ณ ุ ภาพ การหางานท�ำการด�ำรงชีวติ ก็จะมีคณ ุ ภาพและประสิทธิภาพมากยิง่ ขึน้ เช่นกัน พร้อมทัง้ จะเป็นก�ำลังในการ พัฒนาประเทศควบคูก่ นั ไปด้วย ส�ำหรับโครงการแลกเปลีย่ นนักศึกษาไทย-จีน ของมหาวิทยาลัยสวนดุสติ กรุงเทพฯ(ศูนย์หวั หิน)นัน้ จะยังเดินหน้าต่อไป เนือ่ งจากทีจ่ ดั ท�ำโครงการมาในแต่ละปีเกือบ10 ปีมาแล้วนัน้ ประสพผลส�ำเร็จอย่างสูงเด็กไทยได้ภาษาจบออกมาได้งานท�ำเด็กจีน กลับไปพูดไทยได้รศู้ ลิ ปะวัฒนธรรมไทยซึง่ เป็นการแลกเปลีย่ นซึง่ กันและกันแบบไม่มวี นั หมด ในวันที่ 23 กันยายน 2554 นัน้ ทาง ราชภัฎฯเราก็ได้จดั ส่งนักศึกษาแลกเปลีย่ นไป 2 เมืองคือ กุล้ หิน-อูโ๋ จว ทัง้ หมด 90 คน ซึง่ ก็ไปแบบ 2 เดือนและ 1 ปี ตามครอ สระยะเวลาของระบบทางการศึกษาของเขา และในส่วนของกุมภาพันธ์ 2555 นัน้ ก็จะจัดส่งขึน้ ไปอีกสรุปแล้วทางเรานัน้ จะส่ง นักศึกษาไทยไปปีละ 3 รุน่ ส่วนของทางจีนก็จะจัดส่งมาในรูปแบบแลกเปลีย่ นเช่นกัน ในส่วนของนักศึกษาและผูป้ กครองทีส่ นใจ ทีต่ อ้ งการจะส่งบุตรหลานไปเรียนยังสาธารณรัฐประชาชนจีนตามข้อแลกเปลีย่ นของมหาวิทยาลัยต่อมหาวิทยาลัยแล้ว ก็ขอให้แจ้ง ความจ�ำนงต่อทางคณะครู-อาจารย์ ได้ทางเราจะรับพิจารณาเพือ่ เป็นการขยายฐานความรูท้ างการศึกษาให้กว้างไกลยิง่ ขึน้ ต่อไปใน อนาคตเพือ่ ลูกหลานของท่าน

King Rama V Commemoration Day in Hua Hin

ctober 23, 2011 will mark the 100th years for the death of King Chulalongkorn or King Rama V of the current Chakri Dynasty, Hua Hin will organize a commemoration ceremony at the auditorium of Hua Hin School. Starting at 8 a.m., this event highlights wreath and garland presenting by local people, governmental and private staff to pay homage to the great king of Thailand. Then, people will give words of praise. According to Mr. Somchai Bamrungsap, the Hua Hin District Chief, King Chulalongkorn is one of the greatest kings of Thailand whose lifetime dedication contributed overwhelmingly to Thailand and Thai people. The 4th son of King Rama IV, King Rama V modernized the country in several ways. Court systems were modified during his reign with establishment of the Justice Ministry. Education was not limited to aristocrats or elites but extended to local people. A teacher training school was set up at the same time of the Education Ministry. Thai students could go to further their study in Europe. Railways from Bangkok were expanded to other provinces like Nakorn Ratchasima. Trams were introduced for the first time in Bangkok as well as postal services and water supply. Above all, the greatest contribution King Chulalongkorn made to all Thais is abolishing slavery as it clearly shows his concern on by Supansa

human rights and people equality regardless of social class, race and gender. Consequently, Thai people called him Phra Piya Maharat or the most beloved king of Siam. 1st Snooker Hua Hin Open On-Going
he 1st Snooker Hua Hin Open is still continuing until 2 October 2011 at Tarn Diew Snooker Club. Starting on 30 September, this event was organized by the Hua Hin Municipality and Boonrawd Brewery Public Company Limited. With the main aim to encourage young people to play snooker instead of using illicit drugs and serve as a sport forum for snooker players to hone their skill, the 1st Snooker Hua Hin Open offers both cash and trophy for the winner. 10,000 Baht cash, 5,000 Baht cash and 3,000 Baht cash together with a trophy will be awarded to the 1st, 2nd and 3rd winners respectively from the Deputy Mayor of Hua Hin Mr. Athikhun Butying. In addition, a
special prize of 5,000 Baht cash will be given to the one who scores the highest. One of the most popular sports of Thailand and the world alike, snooker is played around the world and included in both national and international sport events. In Thailand, there are several famous snooker players, such as Rutchaphol Phu-ob-om, aka Tong Sitchoi (or James Wattana as known internationally), Dechawat Phumchaeng, Thepchaiya Oon-nu among others. he Preserve Hua Hin Group, in close cooperation with the Chiva-Som Resort Hua Hin, is organizing training courses on environmental conservation in Hua Hin, especially taking care of the city’s beaches, communities, archeological sites and tourist attractions. This project is provided to local students from 7 municipal schools in Hua Hin. According to Mr. Paul Linder, the General Manager of ChivaSom, the project focuses on young participants because they are easily taught and motivated. After learning, they will be more aware of the importance environment of what they learnt will pass to their parents, friends and neighbors. Importantly, they will be a good role model for people who do not realize about the relevant issue. This will be both direct and indirect problem solution that can be used effectively with enforcement of municipal laws and regulations. Held once a year, the training accepts only 50 participants. It consists of a knowledge-based training at a camp conducted by qualified trainers and subsequent activities, such as garbage is collecting and mangrove trees planting. The General Manager of Chiva-Som added that this project was an initiative of Khun Bunchu Rojanasathira, the Ex-Deputy Premier and late leader of Chiva-Som. In 2004, Mr. Krib Rojanasathira, his son, took over this responsibility to set up the Preserve Hua Hin Group as a non-profit organization working on environmental conservation in Hua Hin. beach since 2007 ranked with 4 stars by Pollution Control Department. The Preserve Hua Hin Group is under the royal patronage of Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn. The group conducts a lot of projects to raise awareness on environmental conservation. This year, Mr. Krib already made a white-cover report detailing with group’s 5 projects to improve Hua Hin, namely taking care of Hua Hin beach, promoting proper Hua Hin areas according to the city’s condition, reducing daily waste, launching antipollution projects, supporting and helping environmental activities of both governmental, private sectors and encouraging local students to practice ‘Khon’ is traditionally performed by men in masks accompanied and selling local products. In December, Preserve Hua Hin Group will set up a Concert about Environmental Awareness at Hin Lek Fire Mountain Park.

Hua Hin property picking up
ua Hin, where property prices have been stable for two years, is expected to see a full recovery next year as buyers overcome concerns over political instability, says Oliver Lutzi, Hua Hin office manager of the brokerage Engel & Volkers Thailand. Property prices will not surge this year as the market belongs to buyers, he said. Yet, although the number of walk-in buyers has dropped, the take-up rate is high as buyers are keen to purchase, mainly for investment, he said. During Hua Hin’s property boom, most buyers bought residential units for their own use, he said. Current prices are also more reasonable than in the past, having stabilised since the slowdown that began in late 2008. Unlike markets such as the United States, where property prices have tumbled, economic turbulence has only had a marginal impact on property in Hua Hin, he said. Hua Hin’s beachfront condominiums continue to be priced in two ranges – from 70,000 to 90,000 baht per square metre and from 100,000 to 140,000 baht – unchanged from the last two years, he said. Meanwhile, land prices have doubled over five years. The Hua Hin market in the first quarter was healthier than in mid-2009, with signs of a pickup starting in the fourth quarter last year, he said. Engel & Volkers currently has 1,700 inquiries showing interest in buying residential units in the area, he said. About 63% of requests are from Thai buyers, up from 50% in 2009, followed by buyers from Germany (6%) and from the UK and Ireland (6%). North America, Benelux countries, France and Singapore each provided 3% of inquiries. Last year, a wealthy Russian petroleum owner and a Kazakhstan government

minister broadened the profile of potential buyers in Hua Hin, following the entry of the high-end spa Chiva-som into Russia’s health care tourism market. Russian buyers are normally interested in Pattaya. But these investors sought six-bedroom beachfront villas and residential units with
branded-hotel management, categories of property that are not available in Hua Hin. Last year, a buyer from Kazakhstan spent more than 100 million baht on a 20-rai beachfront plot to develop a villa project in Huay Yang, an emerging location south of Hua Hin. During the first two months of this year, Engel & Volkers recorded 30 million baht in sales transactions in Hua Hin, while there were no sales in the same period last year. Over 2010 the company expects 300 million baht in transactions. Currently, it has 132 beachfront and golf-course properties worth 1.9 billion baht on its listing, 90% of them resale units. Of the total, 76 properties are apartments and condominiums worth 814 million baht. Another 56 are villas and low-rise units with a total value of 1.1 billion baht. SOURCE: Bangkok Post
Amari Estate lifts Hua Hin prices
mari Estate Co plans to increase prices by 5-10% at its mixed-use Amari Residences in Hua Hin, a flagship property and business model that the company intends to use for other projects, in the first quarter of this year. One-quarter of the 201 units at Amari Residences were sold in the first 45 days of presales. Chief executive officer Yuthachai Charanachitta said the price increase would be in line with market conditions and demand. The company says property demand is starting to increase this year because of the expected recovery of overall global economic conditions. In just the first 45 days of presales, around 25% of the 210 units at Amari residences were sold. He said 90% of the buyers were local people wanting to buy the units for residences.
The company believes sales will increase to 40% in April and reach 70-80% in the final quarter. The number of tourist arrivals has increased since early this year, particularly in resort destinations. Demand by foreign investors is also rising in line with good economic sentiment. Apart from the Hua Hin project, the company plans to introduce other projects in resort
destinations such as Phuket, Samui, and Koh Chang. “We have land banks in prime areas in many resort destinations. This year, we will focus on expansion in provinces especially in resort destinations,” said Mr Yuthachai. “However, the investment plan will depend on local political problems as well as the global economic situation.”

eijing has started construction of a new mega-airport that will be roughly the size of The Bermudas and have nine runways. When Beijing Daxing International airport opens in 2015, the Chinese capital will become the world’s busiest aviation hub, handling around 370,000 passengers a day.
It is only three years since the opening of Terminal 3 at Beijing Capital Airport, a sweeping structure designed by Sir Norman Foster that is far bigger than all of Heathrow’s five terminals combined. But an enormous boom in China’s aviation industry has already left the capital’s existing facilities stretched to breaking point. “It is impossible to add even one more flight to the tight daily schedule of the Capital airport,” said Li Jiaxing, the minister in charge of China’s Civil Aviation Administration. “The existing airport in Beijing has an annual capacity of 75 million passengers. Last year it handled 73 million,” said Cao Yunchun, a professor at the country’s Civil Aviation University. “In two years, it will be totally packed. And it cannot be expanded infinitely,” he added. Instead, Beijing’s planners have found a 21 sq
mile site to the south of the city, in the suburb of Daxing. Currently the site is around an hour’s drive from the city centre, but planners are pencilling in an extension to Beijing’s metro, and perhaps even a high-speed train line. The new facility will not only serve Beijing, but also Tianjin and parts of Hebei as the Chinese capital morphs into a megacity, its suburbs merging into those of the cities around it. The airport will be Beijing’s third, after Capital and the smaller, primarily military, Nanyuan airport. Beijing Daxing is likely to have eight runways for civilian use and a ninth for military use, according to Yao Weihui, the general manager of China United Airlines. “The suggested location is a place with few residents and buildings, so a lot of runways can be built,” added Wang Jian, the secretary general of the China Civil Airport Association. However, unlike London, which is currently the world’s busiest hub, the majority of the traffic going through Beijing is made up of domestic Chinese travellers. So far this year, Chinese passengers have outnumbered international travellers four-to-one at Beijing’s Capital airport. Last year, China’s aviation industry reported profits of 43 billion yuan (£3.9 billion), three times the figure for the previous year. In the coming two decades, China is forecast to buy at least 4,300 new jet aircraft, and Boeing has recently upped its targets for the country by 25 per cent. “We are expecting Beijing to play a major role in transport for the Asia Pacific region,” said Professor Cao.

Employment levels have an immediate impact on economic growth. As unemployment increases, consumer spending falls because jobless workers have less money to spend on
non-essentials. Those still employed worry for the future and also tend to reduce spending and save more of their income. An increase in unemployment signals a slowdown in the economy and possible devaluation of a country’s currency because of declining confidence and lower demand. If demand continues to decline, the currency supply builds and further exchange rate depreciation is likely.
3. Economic Growth Expectations
To meet the needs of a growing population, an economy must expand. However, if growth occurs too rapidly, price increases will outpace wage advances so that even if workers earn more on average, their actual buying power decreases. Most countries target economic growth at a rate of about 2% per year. With higher growth comes higher inflation, and in this situation central banks typically raise interest rates to increase the cost of borrowing in an attempt to slow spending within the economy. A change in interest rates may signal a change in currency rates. Deflation is the opposite of inflation; it occurs during times of recession and is a sign of economic stagnation. Central banks often lower interest rates to boost consumer spending in hopes of reversing this trend.
4. Trade Balance
A country’s balance of trade is the total value of its exports, minus the total value of its imports. If this number is positive, the country is said to have a favourable balance of trade. If the difference is negative, the country has a trade gap, or trade deficit. Trade balance impacts supply and demand for a currency. When a country has a trade surplus, demand for its currency increases because foreign buyers must exchange more of their home currency in order to buy its goods. A trade deficit, on the other hand, increases the supply of a country’s currency and could lead to devaluation if supply greatly exceeds demand.
5. Central Bank Actions
With interest rates in several major economies already very low (and set to stay that way for the time being), central bank and government officials are now resorting to other, less commonly used measures to directly intervene in the market and influence economic growth. For example, quantitative easing is being used to increase the money supply within an economy. It involves the purchase of government bonds and other assets from financial institutions to provide the banking system with additional liquidity. Quantitative easing is considered a last resort when the more typical response—lowering interest rates— fails to boost the economy. It comes with some risk: increasing the supply of a currency could result in a devaluation of the currency as well.

he Thai cabinet’s approval on September of tax benefits for first time home buyers is receiving criticism from various fronts. The Thai government’s new tax incentives may increase home sales but only for a segment of the population According to the Bangkok Post, the Home Builders Association wants the government to refund the 7 per cent value-added tax to customers buying self-built homes from builders as the new tax incentives does not cover such homes. The president of the HBA said the government would be able to collect more corporate tax from home building firms. At the same time builders must ask for tax invoices from construction materials and equipment suppliers, creating a multiplier effect that would bring all parties involved in building homes into the system, he said. The new tax programme, which is in effect from September 22 to the end of next year and is estimated to cost the government THB1.7 billion (US$56 million) in lost revenue, allows people to deduct 10 per cent of the cost of a new home worth up to THB5 million (US$164,229) from their personal taxable income over the course of five years. However, industry experts have pointed out that many low-income earners pay no income tax and a person would need to earn at least THB30,000 (US$985) per month to benefit from the scheme. A senior Ministry of Finance official said that only those who earn at least THB5 million (US$131,400) of taxable income per year would be eligible for the 10 per cent deduction.
Sopon Pornchokchai, president of the Agency for Real Estate Affairs said the maximum unit price of THB5 million would only be available to high income earners of more than THB100,000 (US$3,283). “This will be a disaster for low-income earners, as financial institutions will prefer lending to high income earners at the expense of low income customers. Chances for low income earners to own a home is even dimmer,” said Mr. Sopon. For some, the tax incentive scheme is good news. Analysts say leading Thai real estate developers; Supalai, Pruksa Real Estate and LPN Development are likely to see increased sales on the back of the new policy. The majority of Supalai’s units and all of LPN’s units on the market are priced below THB5 million. A survey of five major developers –PS, LH, SC Asset, Quality Houses and Sansiri –showed they have a total of 36,336 units available between them either now or planned for the next 18 months. According to data from the Real Estate Information Center, 104,300 units priced at THB5 million or less are currently available.

angkok, September 20, 2011 - Led by growth from Australia and Europe, the value of foreign golf tourism to Thailand may reach 60 billion baht or $US2 billion in 2012 for the first time. Based on a Tourism Authority of Thailand forecast for a record 19 million inbound visitors to the kingdom next year, up to 600,000 foreign golf tourists - or three percent of the total - will make a beeline for its five major golf destinations: Bangkok, Phuket, Hua Hin, Pattaya and Chiang Mai. According to Mark Siegel, whose company Golfasian is one of Thailand’s major inbound golf tour operators, foreign golf tourism into Thailand is continuing to grow, while he says golfers spend an average of 100,000 baht ($US 3,300) each on the ground - three times the average of other tourists. With Thailand’s major golf courses reporting strong early bookings and forecasting growth above 2011, the estimated 57 billion baht ($US1.9 billion) spent in Thailand by more than 500,000 inbound golf visitors this year should nudge 60 billion baht spent by up to 600,000 foreign golfers in 2012. “It could be our best season ever,” Mark Siegel says. “The political situation is calm, there have been no natural disasters [elsewhere] to deter tourism, and Thailand’s cultural capability to attract tourists remains streets ahead of other markets.” The surge in golf tourism to Thailand will entrench the kingdom as by far Asia’s most popular destination for foreign golfers and one of the top three other golf destinations behind market leader Spain, which attracts almost a million golf tourists a year.
Even traditional golf destinations such as Scotland, Ireland and England - or the United States - can’t match Thailand’s year-round golf appeal, with prices about half the cost of most western markets. Thailand has 260 golf courses - 60 fewer than Spain, 200 fewer than Scotland and 100 less than Ireland. Two new awards are adding to Thailand’s overall tourism aura. Bangkok has been voted the world’s best city by readers of Travel & Leisure magazine in the United States, while Thailand is the world’s fourth best country to visit and Phuket is the world’s 10th best island destination, according to UK magazine Condé Nast Traveller. Although supplying only 10 to 15 percent of Thailand’s golf tourists compared with 65 percent from Europe, the strong Australian dollar and extra flights into Thailand are bringing more Australian golfers. Importantly for many tour operators and courses, Australia’s winter brings golfers from Down Under in Thailand’s low season between May and September, while Europeans overwhelmingly favour the November to March high season during their winter. …continued on page 16...

Anantara General Manager Tim Boda and his team did an excellent job in organizing and catering for this international prestigious event. “The Elephant Whisperer”, as insiders now call Khun Tim will, unfortunately, leave the Anantara for the next step in his career at the end of this month. The From September 5th to September 11th, twelve elite teams from all around the world descended upon the royal seaside town of Hua Hin in Thailand and battled it out for the championship of this unique sport. The tournament, held at Hua Hin’s Suriyothai army base, offered up a showcase of skillful play and plenty of memorable moments, on and off the pitch. Audemars Piguet and Anantara Hotels, Resorts & Spas kicked off the 2011 King’s Cup Elephant Tornament.
Elephant Polo veteran team SOCO were pipped at the post in the final few seconds by The British Army in the first game of the season at the 10th Annual Kings Cup Elephant Polo Tournament in the royal seaside town of Hua Hin in Thailand. Day three of the competition sees last year’s defending champions Audemars Piguet pitted against Mercedes Benz in an all-action match that could have gone either way just minutes into the second half! A robust first half from the Audemars Piguet team, Captained by Peter Prentice along with the dynamic Kalaan brothers, Uday and Angaad, quickly reduced the handicap deficit to end up with a first half result of 6:6 thanks to a superb hat trick of three consecutive goals by the former captain of India’s horse polo world cup team – Uday Kalaan. Semi finals day of play at the King’s Cup Elephant Polo tournament, saw Audemars Piguet and King Power deliver triumphant victories over a strong Sara Story Design and Kasikorn Bank to go head to head in the finals on Sunday.
After a fun and ferocious week of elephant polo, attended by teams from all over the world as well as special VIP guests, the final day of the tournament offered up a showcase of skillful play and plenty of memorable moments. Heavy rain delayed the final match for more than an hour before a sudden death shoot out was called. The shoot out placed two stellar teams on the pitch, both of them full of storied elephant polo histories and exceptional players. Audemars Piguet’s Angaad and Uday Kalaan and rock solid Captain Peter Prentice proved too much for second-place King Power International, just as it had been for all the other teams. Out of the three penalty shoot-outs, King Power scored two. Audemars Piguet players, the Kalaan brothers, scored their penalty shots and it was left to Prentice to place the winning shot which he did with ease to ensure a successful defence of the title. The tournament ended with a prize-awarding ceremony, canapes, and plenty of Penfolds as the sun finally came out on what was arguably the
most successful year ever. The exciting weeklong event has not only been about fun and games either a generous 3.1 million baht was raised for charity at the Anantara Hua Hin gala dinner which hosted a gathering of top dignitaries and well known celebrities. Among the Food and Beverage tents, worth mentioning were all, although some did not open on weekdays, the Anatara buffet was excellent, headed by Executive Chef Khun Kai of the Marriott, the motorbike wizard and his team displayed a selection of Asian creations, curries and healthy salads. Penfolds and Siam Winery, together with Singha, Heineken and Chang took care of the ever returning thirst among spectators. Especially worth mentioning was the Dairy Queen caravan with Ice Cream, Smoothies and last but not least, real hot dogs with cheese and chillidogs. Miss that in Hua Hin. All of us looking forward to next year´s King´s Cup Polo !

Elephant polo
Is
a variant of polo played whilst riding elephants. It is played in Nepal, Sri Lanka, Rajasthan (India), and Thailand. Equipment consists of a standard polo ball and six to nine foot cane (similar to bamboo) sticks with a polo mallet head on the end. The pitch is threequarters of the length of a standard polo pitch, due to the slower speed of the elephants. Two people ride each elephant; the elephants are steered by mahouts, while the player tells the mahout which way to go and hits the ball. Although elephant polo was first played in India at the beginning of the twentieth century, the modern game originated in Meghauli, Nepal, following a meeting in Switzerland between the late Jim Edwards and James Manclark. Tiger Tops in Nepal remains the headquarters of elephant polo and the site of the World Elephant Polo Championships. Elephant Polo in Nepal and Thailand is played under the auspices of the World Elephant Polo Association. WEPA enforces strict rules regarding elephant welfare and game play. Being in the country of the land of smiles it is easy to fall in love, Thailand is a place where people can find paradise but there are always stories about the bitter side as well. Some time ago a UK man who had lived in South Africa came for a holiday visit to Thailand after a while he discovered that he had fallen in love with Thailand and its people. During his time here he met and fell head over heels in love with a young Thai girl, he was smitten with her and decided to buy a property (land and house) for them to live together, the ownership was put under her name. While the UK man was back in South Africa he discovered through a CC camera system he had installed at his home in Thailand that there was a Thai man, who he suspected was her lover coming in and out of his house. Distressed the UK man quickly flew back to Thailand and contacted his lawyer asking for help about the situation. The lawyer recommended that he politely ask the Thai girl to transfer the property back into his name, to which she agreed to do. Sometime after this agreement the UK man had found that the some possessions were missing from his home, he suspected that the Thai lovers had something to do with the missing property. The UK man then took the girl along with his lawyer to the police station after he had found proof that the Thai man had stolen some of his possessions with her assistance. The girl pleaded innocence and constantly denied that she had any part in the burglary and that there was never any Thai man at any time in their home. At the police station the girl still vehemently denied the allegations until the UK man played his trump card and showed the video to the police officer from his laptop. Also before he had set up the CC camera system the UK man had experimented with a tape recorder at their home and recorded a conversation the girl had with an unknown man. After getting the recording translated discovered that she was in contact with a Thai man who he suspected was her lover. He later placed the recording on her
phone and played it for the police officer which further condemned her case. With this evidence a warrant of arrest was issued for the girl and the Thai man. After this was settled the lawyer asked him “how did you know?” to which he received a reply of “it is OK to trust and love but you will still need to double check”. Our comment: defacto relationships along with Husband and Wife relationships need both partners to trust in each other. But for this example if you are an old foreigner with a young Thai girl, in this case one who worked at a bar, it is always good to double check. Almost all work for money and not for love, as a lawyer I receive a lot of complaints from foreigners when they want to separate from a girl that she is a bar girl or a working girl. But I don’t want to hear this because it is them that go to those types of places and when things don’t work out then they will complain. There are plenty of good Thai girls who are willing to build a loving relationship with foreigners old or young, with a view to marriage or whatever each partner wants in life. But one problem that they have in common is communication through language, if you buy love with money, then you will have to buy the separation with money as well. The most important thing is to talk to a lawyer to make a prenuptial contract before you decide to stay together, and hopefully you will have good luck in love. A revival of the famous Maybach. Maybach-Motorenbau GmbH is a German luxury car manufacturer. It was founded in 1909 by Wilhelm Maybach and his son. The company was originally a subsidiary of Luftschiffbau Zeppelin GmbH and was itself known as Luftfahrzeug-Motorenbau
GmbH until 1912. Today, the ultra-luxury car brand is owned by Daimler AG and based in Stuttgart. Tognum AG based in Friedrichshafen manufactures the commercial Maybach diesel engines under the MTU brand through its subsidiary MTU Friedrichshafen GmbH. Production of the new model commenced in two sizes — the Maybach 57 and the Maybach 62. The numbers are equal to the lengths of the automobiles in decimetres. In 2005, the new 57S was added, sporting a 6.0L V12 biturbo engine, producing 604 bhp (450 kW) and 737 lb•ft (999 N•m) of torque, and featuring various cosmetic touches. To promote the new Maybach line, Mercedes-Benz has tapped public figures to act as brand ambassadors, including Maybach heir Ulrich Schmid-Maybach and golfer Nick Faldo.

unveil electric scooters

mart is about to branch out into eco-friendly personal mobility, as it plans to launch an electric scooter at the Paris Motor Show. The Smart escooter will be powered by a lithium-ion battery with a range of up to 62 miles on a full charge. It will also feature an innovative airbag to protect its rider in a crash. The official sketches (pictured) show a production-ready version of the escooter, which will stand alongside the updated Smart fortwo on the company’s stand at the Paris Motor Show. Parent company Mercedes-Benz is said to be diversifying the Smart brand beyond cars in order to revive it with a more distinct identity. However, the four-seat forfour, which was dropped quietly after poor sales, will be replaced in 2012 by a rear-engined, rear-wheel drive version.
Smart isn’t the only maker launching a scooter at the Paris show, as MINI is set to unveil three distinctly decorated two-wheeled vehicles of its own. Little is known about the MINI scooter, but sketches show that one of the three bears the logo of the MINI e electric concept. Like the Smart, the MINI scooter will be powered by a lithium ion battery, with a charging lead that coils into the body when it’s not in use. Production of MINI’s scooter is unconfirmed, but the Smart escooter seems good to go. In a joint deal with German energy supplier ENBW, Mercedes will supply up to 500 electric scooters in Stuttgart. A charging infrastructure will be rolled out, too. Both MINI and Smart will unveil their scooters on September 30 at the Paris Motor Show.

enovo has announced its first commercial and consumer tablet PCs for Asean markets. The first three devices will be launched in Thailand , setting the giant Chinese computer maker on a quest for a 10-per-cent share of the global tablet PC market within three years. The director of Lenovo Asean’s relationship segment Ronnie Lee said the first three devices in its tablet family included the ThinkPad Tablet, aimed at commercial and business users, and the sleek and stylish IdeaPad Tablet K1, with different Wi-Fi and 3G versions, designed for the consumer market. They are the company’s first mobile Internet devices featuring the Android 3.1 honeycomb platform. Lee said the ThinkPad Tablet was built to deliver a combination of mobile entertainment, security and productivity for commercial and business users. Its main features include security, reliability and manageability. It features an optional digitizer pen, a full-sized USB port, a full-sized SDcard slot, and a mini-HDMI for connecting to external projectors and displays as well as an optional ThinkPad Keyboard Folio Case with optical TrackPoint. It also features scratchresistant Corning Gorilla Glass for business professionals who need an ultra-mobile device to keep up with a work-hard, play-hard lifestyle. “This is the first time we have launched tablets for both the commercial and consumer markets. I am confident that these devices will meet our customers’ requirements, because we want to gain leadership of the market. This time we have the best situation and this is the right time to launch these new tablets,” Lee said. He said that for the ThinkPad Tablets, the company would work with system integrators and service providers to customize the devices and develop applications to support commercial users, such as retail, telecom, airline and banking solutions. “Thailand is a big and interesting market for us. Every country is important, but there are two countries on which we will focus sharply. We call them hyper-growth countries, and Thailand is one of these hyper-growth markets in this region and the other one is Indonesia. They have double-digit market growth, so we make sure we give them a bit more attention. We see a boom coming from this,” Lee said. Meanwhile, Lenovo Asean’s director of consumer business Feng Jianjian said the IdeaPad Tablet K1 came with HD display, dual cameras and integrated Bluetooth and 802.11 Wi-Fi connectivity. It weighs less than 740 grams and is designed for consumers seeking a mobile-entertainment device for staying connected to family and friends, accessing social-media networks and enjoying music, movies, Android apps and surfing the Web on the go. The new tablet is also preloaded with more than 30 applications and users can access thousands more in the Android market as well as applications tested exclusively for the IdeaPad Tablet K1 in Lenovo’s App Shop. The Wi-Fi version of the IdeaPad is priced at 699 Singapore dollars (Bt17,417), and the 3G version, S$799.
“I think that tablet PCs will replace the netbook market because netbook users are switching to use tablets. We aim to gain a 10-per-cent share of the global tablet market in three years, with double-digit market growth,” Jianjian said. Lenovo also plans to announce a new tablet with a Windows environment in the near future. Recent reports by global market-research firm IDC have illustrated the startling size of the market for tablet computers and its explosive growth. IDC says tablets will experience a five-year compound annual growth rate of 54 per cent in the Asia-Pacific excluding Japan region, multiplying nearly ten times from 2 million units shipped in 2010 to 21 million units. It expects more consumers to adopt media tablets to meet their mobile gaming, Webbrowsing and social networking needs. Moreover, IDC believes that some of this demand may be driven by the education sector, and mentions the Thai government’s plan to distribute 800,000 Android tablets to primary-school students. Although Thailand’s free-tablets-for-schoolchildren project has
not yet been factored into IDC’s forecasts, the firm points out that it is just one of many opportunities driving media-tablet growth. It says mature countries like Korea, Australia and Taiwan are showing high interest in mobile devices like media tablets, while China continues to demonstrate high purchasing power for new-tech products. By contrast, emerging countries in Asia-Pacific excluding Japan, like Indonesia and Malaysia, have more conservative attitudes toward media tablets, and still prefer mini notebooks with better keyboard input and a familiar user experience. EReaders, on the other hand, will carry a lower compound annual growth rate of 18 per cent as these devices are limited to a single function, one that media tablets cover anyway. In fact, IDC says, media tablets offer a better reading experience with colour display for magazine content. “Lack of localised content is an issue for eReaders in Asia-Pacific excluding Japan. In China, for example, some consumers are still relying on pirated Internet downloads. Online bookstores haven’t been earning wide margins on content for device vendors, and they face aggressive iPad pricing, squeezing them further,” says IDC Asia-Pacific’s senior market analyst for client devices research, Dickie Chang.

world’s economic problems before I retreated to my suite, comfortably trying to choose my side of the bed where a couple could easily play hide and seek before falling into a deep and dreamy sleep only to reminded cruelly in the morning by my lovely butler that after breakfast the limousine will take me to my next destination. And not to forget : you get an iPad at checking in, with which you can sign into your Email , Google the World , play games or listen to music. The hotel limousine is send to pick up guests, wherever they may be upon arrival in Thailand. I was picked up at 8:30 in the morning sharp after a grueling flight from way down under. Swiftly gliding along Thailand´s highways, the Barai residences were reached in two glimpses of the eye. A warm welcome by beauties of amazing Thailand readily exceeded my expectations of an arrival and welcome. No need to check in at the Lobby. It is done in the Suite. Noblesse here really Obligeant. I immediately felt at home and couldn´t wait to explore the giant bed awaiting for my after lunch nap.

But before I could really relax , I was guided through a programme which would take care of my personal wishes and recommendations of the head therapists and butler service of the Residences. My personal notes where already taken care off and a programme was created upon my arrival. Now I was ready for breakfast, healthy and also wholesome. They are not going to let you be hungry because soon after I arrived Breakfast was ready at the famous McFarlane house. A sumptuous Continental breakfast with poached eggs on a Spinach bed and a bread and buns assortment with homemade jams immediately catches your eye as it is served set on your table. A choice of coffee, teas and fruit juices including healthy vegetable and fruit smoothies make you want to skip lunch. Service was flawless an friendly and my Barai butler was always insight, available and smiling , worried about my wellbeing and trying to read any wish of my face. After breakfast I requested a Spa consultation to set up a programme at the famous Barai Spa. There is a choice of Water , Earth, Air and Fire. I chose Fire due to my South American heritage and a hot herbal treatment energizing therapy.
Spa therapists demonstrated how herbs and spices are mixed and wrapped into a cloth which in return is steamed to release the therapeutical aromas and juices which are gently applied to your skin as your treatment starts. This takes me directly into the Barai Spa, the most exclusive and impressive I have visited. It is a fascinating trip to the interior of the Barai and over and over again, it is just amazing. Through the labyrinth of hall ways and corridors, my butler delivered me to my therapist who was already well informed about my therapy which lasted 90 minutes and started off with a herbal, salt and milk bath. After my Spa treatment I felt reborn, fresh and floating on air. Back to my suite I eyed the 3 x 2 m. emperor sized bed which invited for a siesta, only interrupted for a lunch call. My Fire ordered lunch stated off with some arranged pastry, an asparagus cream soup and New Zealand Tenderloin on Zucchini with deep-fried Zucchini sticks, fresh fruit salad with grapes and plums, a fruit and vegetable smoothie and double espresso.
Back in my suite, a tennis challenge was announced which took me to the Hyatt tennis court to the pit of the local matador sharpening his racket. In vain. The young man did his best but I wasn’t written off yet. With all those vitamins pushing my limits just one step further, “Still have to count with me all ye aficionados”. A quick room massageafter tennis freshened my worn down shoulder and back before I indulged in the obligatory high tea with a lovely choice of sweet and salt together with the usual choice of tea. A well-deserved second siesta is followed up by The Evening Cocktail where you can meet other people sharing the same Barai faith as yourself. An interesting conversation with the Australian Chamber of Commerce , Trade representative spiced my evening further as we sorted out the

Waldorf education (also known as Steiner or Steiner-Waldorf education) is a humanistic approach to pedagogy based upon the educational philosophy of the Austrian philosopher Rudolf Steiner, the founder of anthroposophy. Grand Stadium to Host Hua Hin Helps Benefit Charity Concert T
he Hua Hin Grand Hotel Stadium will host Hua Hin Helps, a charity concert, featuring international and local musicians for a night of eclectic music in support of the local nonprofit organization, Connect3e. Hua Hin Helps will take place from 20:00 to 24:00 on Saturday, October 15, 2011, offering a variety of live music performances, a live dance show, a charity raffle and snacks from local restaurants. Hua Hin Helps Coordinator Peter Barry said the headline act is the Lincoln Davis Trio, a new and sophisticated fusion group from Australia. The Lincoln Davis Trio has been described as, “Classical music with the down-to-earth rawness of blues and folk,” according to the group’s MySpace page. Barry said the idea for the event began in collaboration with the musician Lincoln Davis, who is coming to Thailand as part of the group, Sailing Conductors. Barry said, the Sailing Conductors are musicians sailing from Sydney, Australia to Berlin, Germany and collaborating with the people they meet to learn and perform traditional music.
“[Lincoln] is touring all around the world making a documentary about music in different countries, and one of his stops along the way is Thailand. He wanted to do a concert here, so I said I’ll help him do that,” Barry said. “We know about Connect3e, and it’s a good organization, so I thought, let’s join these together. The idea just developed from there.” In addition to the Lincoln Davis Trio, there will be several performances by local musicians, including the duo, Mr. Pahp and Mr. Doctor, who will perform southern Thai music, and a southern Thai band, Sabaii Blue, that will perform blues and reggae. “Mr. Pahp and Mr. Doctor play very southern and relaxing music. They’ve been playing around Thailand for many years and at local bars here,” said Barry. All profits from the event will be donated directly to Connect3e, an organization that helps provide support and resources for several Karen villages located in the Pala-U and Ratchaburi areas. Connect3e is entirely dependent on private donations and provides support through a philosophy of, “Embrace, educate and empower.” Barry said the funds from the benefit concert will specifically help the organization Connect3e support local Karen villages in development. “I hope the event is going to inform people about Connect3e, and the situation with Burma and the Karen, spread awareness, and raise money. It might also pave the way for future events for charity. It may be a beginning of something more long term,” Barry said. Barry said he chose Connect3e for the first Hua Hin Helps concert because it is one of the most active charities in Hua Hin, and it is constantly breaking new ground and helping new villages,
which he said is both encouraging and important. In addition to performing at Hua Hin Helps, the Lincoln Davis Trio plan to visit several Karen hill tribe villages to learn their traditional music and create a fusion record for a documentary about their journey. Getting Arrested without a Warrant—More Grounds

W
e’re talking about situations in which a police officer can arrest you without a warrant. Last time we mentioned that a police officer may arrest without a warrant if the crime is committed in his or her presence or if it is obvious the perpetrator just committed the crime. These are examples of the “flagrant” offense, as discussed. This time we will discuss the three additional grounds for an officer to arrest without a warrant. Here’s the first one: if the police officer becomes aware the that a person has arms or tools of a crime and suspects they will be used in the commission of a crime he or she may arrest without a warrant. The obvious example is that a police officer sees Mr. X, a known burglar, running late at night down an alley with a crowbar. The officer could arrest Mr. X on this ground. But here’s another example of the same exception that shows the subtleties of criminal procedure. What if you are in a bar having a drink? It’s in a pretty rough neighborhood, so you’ve brought a knife with you for protection. The blade is about ten centimeters long, and it’s in a sheath on your belt. A police officer in the bar happens to see it. Can the officer arrest you on the suspicion that the knife may be used in the commission of a crime? The answer to this question depends on whether the officer’s
suspicion is reasonable. So we must look to other facts. For example, does the officer know you? And do you have past convictions for stabbing people in bar fights? If so, his suspicion would be reasonable. Likewise, are you acting belligerently, reasonably suggesting to the officer that you might be getting ready to use the knife? This is another factor that should be weighed in making decision made whether or not to arrest. Here’s another reason a police officer can arrest a suspect without a warrant: exigent circumstances. This is when a police officer sees a situation that would require a warrant to arrest the suspect but because of time pressure and /or emergency circumstances there isn’t time to get one. Let’s say, for example, a police officer sees a known bank robber running down the street, toward a bank. None of the reasons for arrest without a warrant mentioned earlier would apply, because the officer is not aware that any crime has been committed. Likewise, the officer doesn’t see tools of a crime or a weapon. But because the officer is trying to prevent a crime, and can’t wait to get a warrant to do so, he or she may arrest the suspect based on the necessity of time pressure. The final ground for arresting without a warrant is that an officer can arrest an escaped offender or accused offender. Let’s say, for example, a policeman sees an escaped prisoner, who was convicted for robbery and the policeman knows has escaped. The policeman can arrest this escapee without a warrant. Likewise, and we will discuss this at length later, the police often arrest a suspect and release him or her, explaining
that if they need this suspect for further proceedings the suspect may again be called in by the police. If a suspect has been called again by the police as part of an ongoing investigation but is evading the police, such a suspect can be arrested without a warrant. To start off , I was taken to the steam bath which I chose instead of a Sauna stay as I just came from the outside Hua Hin Sauna. The steam bath was pleasant and promptly jump started my perspiration glands and opened my body pores to the maximum. 10 minutes of voluntary torture in the steam bath was enough to lose a couple of pints of water. A rinsing shower and off to the treatment room which was very nicely set up and decorated to represent relaxation and comfort.

The Putahrasca Hua Hin resort consists of three main spaces, which are spread across both sides of Nahb Kaehat Rd. The resort side has a main lobby, the Day Spa, the Sala Monsoon restaurant and 44 guest rooms. The ocean side has a more exclusive atmosphere, the Oceanside Beach Club & Restaurant, a lounge area and 15 guest rooms, each with a Jacuzzi. Nestled just behind the resort side lobby, is the modest, circular, thatched roof spa, which looks as like an exclusive jungle retreat. The spa has five treatments rooms, two manicure/ pedicure stations, and a simple lobby. Niamngern said the primary focus of the spa is to satisfy resort guests. She said the spa has remained small and has yet to fully develop a design niche, an aspect she hopes to improve over the next year. “We plan to do a new spa next year. We want to do more things. ld age may not sound exciting. But recent findings offer good news for older people and for people worried about getting older. Researchers found that people become happier and experience less worry after they reach the age of fifty. In fact, they say by the age of eighty-five, people are happier with their life than they were when they were eighteen years old. The findings came from a survey of more than three hundred forty thousand adults in the United States. The Gallup Organization questioned them by telephone in two thousand eight. At that time, the people were between the ages of eighteen and eighty-five. The researchers asked questions about emotions like happiness, sadness and worry. They also asked about mental or emotional stress. Arthur Stone in the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Science at Stony Brook University in New York led the study. His team found that levels of stress were highest among adults between the ages of twenty-two and twenty-five. The findings showed that stress levels dropped sharply after people reached their fifties. Happiness was highest among the youngest adults and those in their early seventies. The people least likely to report feeling negative emotions were those in their seventies and eighties. The study also showed that men and women have similar emotional patterns as they grow older. However, women at all ages reported more sadness, stress and worry than men.

One theory is that, as people grow older, they grow more thankful for what they have and have better control of their emotions. They also spend less time thinking about bad experiences. The researchers also considered possible influences like having young children, being unemployed or being single. On the day of my visit to the Putahrasca Day Spa, I receive the October Promotional Spa Package consisting of an Orange Ginger Oatmeal Body Scrub, a Pure Honey Facial Mask, and a 60-minute massage of choice. In total, the promotional package is two hours of pampering for 2,400 THB. After the usual polite greetings and welcome drink of cold passion fruit tea, I followed the curving hallway to my treatment room, which like all the rooms, was separated by canvas walls allowing guests to fully admire the beautifully traditional thatched roof ceiling. While listening to soft, traditional Thai instrumental music, my entire body was lathered with the warm, freshly mixed orange, ginger and oatmeal body scrub. The treatment was mild and as the masseuse moved from one body part to the next, the scrub dried, acting as a conditioning mask leaving my skin hydrated and smooth. The Pure Honey Facial Mask was gently painted over my face and left to work its magic for 10-minutes of sticky, sweet bliss. After a quick rinse, I received a standard aromatherapy oil massage with a subtle sesame and mandarin massage oil. The oil massage was relaxing, professional and effective. Niamngern said the majority of spa customers are resort guests, and only 10 to 15 percent of our customers are from outside. She said the client base is mainly Thai people who vacation in Hua Hin from Bangkok, so the spa prices are reasonable and the treatment style is traditional. She said the resort hopes to use the October Promotional Spa Package to attract more outside customers who live in the Hua Hin area. She said the package is an exciting offer, and her recommended massage choice is the Fusion Oil massage, because it combines several massage techniques. “I like the oil massage, but I like a strong massage, so the fusion is a combination, and I have dry skin, so the oil is good for my skin,” Niamngern said.

Rising long-haul demand and improving numbers from Japan and Korea also means members of Golf in a Kingdom: The Thai Golf Experience, a co-operative marketing group comprising Thailand’s top golf courses and hotels, are expecting a bumper high season from November to March and ongoing strong demand throughout 2012. “There has been a dramatic improvement [in bookings],” says Prasertchai Phornprapha, managing director of Siam Country Club near Pattaya, a two-course complex that relies purely on pay-as-you-play visitors and is expecting to host 50,000 foreign golfers in 2012, half its total expected numbers. “When there is peace in Thailand it is the destination of choice because of its culture and value for money,” he says. Bangkok’s exclusive Thai Country Club, named by Asian Golf Monthly last year as Thailand’s best course and first runner-up in Asia, is also expecting a bumper season. General manager T.W. Hughes says his optimism follows one of the best high seasons ever in 2011. “We believe this year will be at least equal to last year and perhaps even better, given those who

Harald Ellison, general manager of nearby Black Mountain Golf Club, says forward bookings from Scandinavia, northern Europe and the United Kingdom are encouraging. The club, owned by Swedish interests, which hasn’t missed a day’s golf since it opened in 2007, will bring a new par-3 course into play by the end of the year to accompany its core 18-hole layout. The new island-dotted mini-course with water on every hole and heavy bunkering will be a test for golfers of all levels and is expected to be played by a large number of Black Mountain’s visitors. Meanwhile, the Thai Government has high hopes for continued strong tourism growth over the next four years. Earlier this month, Deputy Prime Minister and Tourism and Sports Minister, Chumpol Silpa-archa, announced a target of at least 30 million foreign inbound tourists by 2015, who he said were expected to generate national revenues of 1.4 trillion baht or $US466 billion at current exchange rates. If achieved, the target would almost double inbound arrivals in just five years. And if inbound golf market’s share and expenditure remain at current levels, golf tourism will contribute 150 billion baht ($US4.5 billion) to the Thai economy four years from now.

he Cha-Am Municipality will organize an event to commemorate Krom Phra Narathip Praphanphong on October 11-15, 2011 According to Mr. Nukul Pronsomboonsiri, the Cha-Am Mayor, the Municipality will join hands with the Cha-Am Municipal Council also concerned agencies to hold this event which may later become an annual occasion of the city. With an aim to honor Krom Phra Narathip Praphanphong, who pioneered city planning and modernizing in Cha-Am until it becomes a famous holiday getaway of Thailand, the event will start on October 11 – the date when Krom Phra Narathip Praphanphong passed away. The commemorative event starts in the morning session which in a Brahman ceremony takes place in front of the monument

he Senior Managing Director of Boonrawd Brewery Public Company Limited ( Mr. Santi Bhirombhakdi has recently offered 4 satellite phones to Mr. Chaiwat Limlikhitaksorn, the Chief of the Kaeng Krachan National Park. Phones, worth 200,000 Baht, will be used for monitoring areas within the National Park.
Mr. Chaiwat said that the Kaeng Krachan National Park was often intruded by forest trespassers and illegal hunters. Although the authorities know their whereabouts, it is difficult to contact and coordinate with officers at the headquarters and each checkpoint in the park due to lack of high frequency phones. Thanks to the satellite phones offered by Boonrawd Brewery, authorities and officers will work more effectively and quickly on informing any wrongdoings at all areas inside the National Park. The Chief of the Kaeng Krachan National Park added that he usually monitored the National Park’s area, using a helicopter to comb and check suspicious points. Common problems found include forest trespass along Thai border made by ethnic minority groups like Karen, Karan and Pakayo. Those who have lived there for quite some time will be allocated some areas to work according to His Majesty the King’s Principles of Self-Sufficiency; those who have just arrived, however, will be asked to move out as many of them are found doing illegal activities, particularly planting marijuana and possessing war weapons. More Plants to Make Cha-Am More Lively by ‘Fa Sai’ Over 220 members of the ‘Fa Sai’ environmental group have recently grown beautiful plants on Cha-Am beaches to make the city more beautiful and lively and raise awareness among local people and tourists on environmental conservation. Taking place on 14 September at the southern part of Cha-Am beach, this activity, carried out as a part of the project, “Cha-Am: Lively City”, was presided over by the Cha-Am Mayor Mr. Nukul Pornsomboonsiri. In this activity, small plants will be grown at the foot of pine trees along the beach, making the area more beautiful and attractive. Following the report made by the Cha-Am Municipality Deputy and the activity leader Mr. Amnart Witthaya, the ‘Fa Sai Cha-Am Suai’ (literally, ‘Clear Sky in Beautiful ChaAm environmental group was formed by leaders of civil society groups, academics and governmental staff who have mobilized the development work for Cha-Am in a constant and sustainable way since 2006. Their knowledge and experience on social work is extended and obtained from participating in field trips, trainings and relevant activities. Realizing that the Cha-Am beach is one of the most beautiful and most famous for Thai and foreign tourists, the ‘Fa Sai’ members has worked with owners of beachside camp beds in Cha-Am to launch this activity to raise awareness on environmental conservation and improve the area of the southern part of Cha-Am beach.Also promotes cooperation from good relations between local people and governmental officers and participation of all concerned agencies in terms of taking care of Cha-Am in a sustainable way. The activity, funded by the ChaAm Municipal Health Insurance Funding Division, sees 220 participants from the ‘Fa Sai’ group, the local fisher group, the owners of beachside camp beds and the network on Cha-Am: Lively City project. The ChaAm Municipality is responsible for providing plants to grow.
Leaflets on environmental threat and how to protect the world from it are distributed by the Division of Health and Environmental Effect Assessment of the Department of Health. Logistic matters are under responsibility of the Niphon Resort Hotel, Saha Kham and Nong Jaeng communities. The Cha-Am Mayor, very pleased to attend the activity, said that he appreciated dedication of ‘Fa Sai’ group and people who worked hard to make Cha-Am a lively city. He added that taking care of the beach and retaining its charm will impress visitors so much that they will keep coming back. This will improve overall economic situation in the city as well. “This activity responds to the Cha-Am municipal policy that aims to internationalize the standard of the city’s tourist attractions under cooperation of several agencies concerned,” said the Mayor. “Since sustainable development would be impossible without everybody working together. I’d like to thank in advance the owners of beachside camp beds and members of the Saha Kham and Nong Jaeng communities who will take care of all the plants in the future.”

มาชิกกลุม่ ฟ้าใสชะอ�ำสวยกว่า ๒๒๐ คน ร่วมแรงปลูกไม้ดอกไม้ ประดับดูดสารพิษชายหาด สร้างชะอ�ำให้เป็นเมืองน่าอยู่ ปลุก จิตส�ำนึกอนุรกั ษ์ธรรมชาติและสร้างความสวยงามชายหาดชะอ�ำ เมือ่ วันที่ ๑๔ กันยายน ๒๕๕๔ ทีผ่ า่ นมา ณ ชายหาดหาดชะอ�ำด้านใต้ ได้มี การจัดกิจกรรมปลูกไม้ดอกไม้ประดับดูดสารพิษ ตามโครงการชะอ�ำ เมืองน่าอยู่ ของเทศบาลเมืองชะอ�ำ โดยมีนายนุกลู พรสมบูรณ์ศริ ิ นายกเทศมนตรีเมืองชะอ�ำเป็นประธานเปิดกิจกรรม นายอ�ำนาจ วิทยา ปลัดเทศบาลเมืองชะอ�ำ ในฐานะประธานฝ่าย จัดงาน กล่าวว่า กิจกรรมครัง้ นีส้ บื เนือ่ งมาจากการทีเ่ ทศบาลเมืองชะอ�ำ ได้มีการจัดตั้งสภาชุมชนกลุ่มฟ้าใสชะอ�ำสวยจากการรวบตัวกันของ แกนน�ำภาคประชาชน ภาครัฐ และภาควิชาการ โดยมีจดุ มุง่ หมายเพือ่ เป็นพลังในการขับเคลือ่ นเมืองน่าอยู่ ชุมชนน่าอยู่ ของเทศบาลเมือง ชะอ�ำให้เกิดการพัฒนาอย่างต่อเนือ่ งและยัง่ ยืน มาตัง้ แต่ปี ๒๕๔๙ และ มีการต่อยอดสะสมองค์ความรูแ้ ละประสบการณ์ในการด�ำเนินงานโดย การฝึกอบรม ศึกษาดูงาน และท�ำกิจกรรมร่วมกันของสมาชิกสภา ชุมชนกลุม่ ฟ้าใสชะอ�ำสวยกันมาอย่างต่อเนือ่ งจนถึงปัจจุบนั ในครัง้ นี้ สภาชุมชนกลุม่ ฟ้าใสชะอ�ำสวยได้ตระหนักว่าเมืองชะอ�ำเป็นเมืองทีม่ ี ชายหาดเป็นแหล่งท่องเทีย่ วทีเ่ ป็นทีร่ จู้ กั ของนักท่องเทีย่ วทัง้ ชาวไทยและชาวต่างชาติ จึงได้รว่ มมือกับกลุม่ ผูป้ ระกอบการเตียงผ้าใบ ชายหาดจัดกิจกรรมครัง้ นีข้ นึ้ โดยมีวตั ถุประสงค์เพือ่ ให้สมาชิกสภาชุมชนกลุม่ ฟ้าใสชะอ�ำสวยและเครือข่ายเมืองน่าอยูไ่ ด้ทำ� กิจกรรมร่วม กันในการด�ำเนินงานเมืองน่าอยู่ ชุมชนน่าอยู่ และเกิดสัมพันธภาพทีด่ รี ะหว่างประชาชนและเครือข่ายภาครัฐ เป็นการส่งเสริมการมีสว่ นร่วม ของทุกภาคส่วนในการดูแลรักษาสิง่ แวดล้อมให้ชะอ�ำเป็นเมืองน่าอยูแ่ ละน่าเทีย่ วอย่างยัง่ ยืน เป็นการกระตุน้ และปลูกจิตส�ำนึกในการดูแล สุขภาพและสิง่ แวดล้อมของประชาชน และเพือ่ ปรับปรุงภูมทิ ศั น์บริเวณชายหาดชะอ�ำด้านใต้ การจัดกิจกรรมครัง้ นีม้ สี มาชิกสภาชุมชนกลุม่ ฟ้าใสชะอ�ำสวย กลุม่ ผูป้ ระกอบการเตียงผ้าใบชายหาด กลุม่ ประมง เครือข่าย เมืองน่าอยูแ่ ละเจ้าหน้าทีผ่ เู้ กีย่ วข้องกับการพัฒนาเมืองน่าอยู่ ชุมชนน่าอยูเ่ ทศบาลเมืองชะอ�ำเข้าร่วมกิจกรรมจ�ำนวน ๒๒๐ คน โดยได้รบั งบประมาณสนับสนุนจากกองทุนหลักประกันสุขภาพเทศบาลเมืองชะอ�ำต้นไม้สำ� หรับปลูกจากเทศบาลเมืองชะอ�ำและสมาชิกสภาชุมชน กลุม่ ฟ้าใสชะอ�ำสวย เอกสารแผ่นพับความรูจ้ ากกองประเมินผลกระทบต่อสุขภาพและสิง่ แวดล้อม กรมอนามัย และการอ�ำนวยความ สะดวกในด้านต่าง ๆ จากโรงแรมนิพนธ์รสี อร์ท ชุมชนสหคาม และชุมชนหนองแจง นายอ�ำนาจกล่าว ทางด้านนายนุกลู พรสมบูรณ์ศริ ิ ในฐานะประธานเปิดงาน กล่าวว่า รูส้ กึ ยินดีและชืน่ ชมเป็นอย่างยิง่ ทีส่ มาชิกสภาชุมชนกลุม่ ฟ้า ใสชะอ�ำสวยทีเ่ กิดจากการรวมตัวกันของแกนน�ำกลุม่ ต่าง ๆ จากทุกชุมชนทุกภาคส่วนไม่วา่ จะเป็นกรรมการชุมชน อสม. ชมรมสร้างสุขภาพ ชมรมร้านอาหารและแผงลอย กลุม่ ผูป้ ระกอบการเตียงผ้าใบ กลุม่ ประมง รวมถึงครูจากโรงเรียนต่าง ๆ ได้มารวมพลังกันเพือ่ ร่วมท�ำ กิจกรรมอันเป็นประโยชน์ ซึง่ ส่งผลต่อการมีสภาพแวดล้อมและสุขภาพทีด่ ที งั้ ตนเองและส่วนรวม การดูและชายหาดชะอ�ำให้คงความน่า เทีย่ ว นักท่องเทีย่ วมาเทีย่ วแล้วเกิดความประทับใจกลับมาเทีย่ วอีก ย่อมท�ำให้เศรษฐกิจของชะอ�ำโดยรวมดีขนึ้ อย่างแน่นอน การทีท่ กุ ภาค ส่วนให้ความส�ำคัญและมีสว่ นร่วมในการท�ำกิจกรรมครัง้ นีน้ นั้ มีความสอดคล้องกับนโยบายของเทศบาลเมืองชะอ�ำทีต่ อ้ งการพัฒนาเพือ่ ยก ระดับแหล่งท่องเทีย่ วของชะอ�ำให้ได้มาตรฐาน สากล โดยใช้ยทุ ธศาสตร์การมีสว่ นร่วมของ หลายภาคส่วนทีเ่ ชือ่ มโยงและเกีย่ วข้องกัน การ ส่งเสริมความเข้มแข็งของทุกภาคส่วนเพื่อให้ เกิดการพัฒนาอย่างยัง่ ยืน นอกจากนีก้ จิ กรรม ครั้งนี้จะส�ำเร็จสมบูรณ์ไม่ได้หากขาดกลุ่มผู้ ประกอบการเตียงผ้าใบ ชุมชนสหคาม และ ชุมชนหนองแจง ทีจ่ ะคอยดูแล บ�ำรุงรักษา ซ่อมแซมต้นไม้ให้สวยงามและคงอยูต่ ลอดไป ดังนัน้ ต้องขอขอบคุณทุกภาคส่วนทีเ่ กีย่ วข้องที่ เสียสละเวลาอุทศิ ตนเพือ่ ส่วนรวม นายนุกลู กล่าว การจัดกิจกรรมครัง้ นี้ เป็นการปลูกไม้ ดอกไม้ประดับรอบโคนต้นสนซึ่งอยู่มากมาย ตลอดแนวชายหาดชะอ�ำ โดยหลังจากทุกฝ่าย ได้รว่ มกันปลูกจนเสร็จสิน้ ท�ำให้ชายหาดชะอ�ำ สวยงามน่าเทีย่ วยิง่ ขึน้

lock of Thais and foreigners are coming to Cha-Am for the 13th festival of shell eating, bird watching and squid fishing at the Cha-Am lookout between 24 September and 2 October. Organized by the Tourism Authority of Thailand’s Petchaburi Office, the Cha-Am Municipality and the Boonrawd Brewery Public Company Limited’s the Marketing Division, this event aims to promote tourism in Cha-Am in low season. Well-known among tourists as it has taken place for 13 times already, it offers fun travel experiences and several unforgettable activities hardly found elsewhere in Thailand.
Mr. Chai Panichpornpan, the Petchaburi Governor, said that Petchaburi is one of the highest potential provinces in Thailand in terms of tourism thanks to its various natural resources, unique culture and interesting historical background. The province also boasts many royal initiative projects from which people can learn as well as complete accommodations and convenient location close to Bangkok. These make Petchaburi a precious gem of Thailand. In terms of Cha-Am, a district of Petchaburi, it is an important tourist spot of the province and Thailand as a whole. Each year, over 4 million tourists visit the area, boosting local economy to the province a lot. Organizing tourism promotion activities like this festival is a good way to allow local people to earn more income, added Mr. Chai. The Cha-Am Mayor Mr. Nukul Pornsomboonsiri, as an organizing chair of the festival, said that the Municipality of Cha-Am provided visitors with international quality on event organizing.
Throughout the event, the central stage will have performances of various artists. At the Cha-Am lookout, visitors can savor good food and drink. Those who want to fish squid can do so at 7 p.m. every day on a fishing boat by paying only 100 Baht charge – the cheapest price for tourists. Fishing boats will be moored beside the ChaAm lookout on the southern part. Birdwatchers can take a free trip to Khao Nang Phanthurat hill and Thung Takad Phlee to see local and migrating birds. The trip, taking place twice daily – 7 a.m. and 4 p.m. – can be booked at a tent on the north of the Cha-Am lookout. On 24 September – the first and the opening day of the festival, a fair of One-TambonOne-Product (OTOP) goods was launched together with boat racing from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. The Cha-Am Mayor said that he was confident that the festival would come out very well as it had been held for the 13th times already. Besides, organizers and sponsors for the event know how to prepare everything. So, all visitors will be happy and enjoy great experience there. The Director of the Tourism Authority of Thailand’s Petchaburi Office Ms. Nongnit Tengmaneewan talked about the festival that the TAT, which has continuously supported it since the first time, would be pleased to coorganize the event again next year because a lot of visitors enjoyed it so much despite the low season. So, the TAT would like to invite tourists to come back to Cha-Am and attend the festival again next year. Mr. Somchai Paerungrotthawee, the manager of the Boonrawd Brewery Public Company Limited’s the Marketing Division, said that the company was glad to be a co-organizer of the festival because it was a Thai company which supported and took pride of diverse Thai tradition and culture. Boonrawd has continuously sponsored this event as it symbolizes unique Thai lifestyle, especially the way of living in coastal Thailand. An unmissible event of Cha-Am, the shell eating, bird watching and squid fishing festival will be an unforgettable memory for those who attend it, too. vent at Siam Paragon An international event “food & hotel Thailand 2011” was held in Bangkok at Siam Paragon last month with numbers of international participants including The Hotel Cha Am. This is the first time that expects to attract another record number of local and international buyers. The event holds the unique status of being “Asia’s 5 Star Hospitality Event. There are many hospitality competitions such as bed making for housekeeping department, fruit carving and duck free style cooking for F&B and kitchen departments. For the fruit carving we have the concept of “Pranakorn Kiri” The architecture of King Rama 5 from Petchaburi Province. And for the duck cooking we created using the salt brick as the plate with modern decoration. Even though the hotel cha-am team didn’t win the first prize, we got the recognization from three competitions which is the good thing for our associate to practice and improve our service to guests.
