THE ELECTION WAS BEYOND EXPECTATIONS, WITH 59.71 PER CENT EXERCISE OF RIGHTS 

           announced the unofficial results of the outcome of Sunday’s election are as follows: No. 3. Mr Nopporn Wuttikul, from Hua Hin New Power Party, 11,998 votes. No. 1. Mr Than Osuwan, from Ruam Jai Rak Hua Hin Party, 10,716 votes. No. 2. Mr Udorn Ollson, from Pracharat Pattana Party, 1833 votes. No. 4. Police Colonel Chatchai Rienmek, from Hua Hin Kao Hna Party, 522 votes. No. 5. Miss Pornrawee Si-Leangsawat, from Hua Hin New Modern Party, 440 votes. 26,867 voters out of an electorate of 44,994 voters took part, a turnout of 59.71 per cent. Mr Nopporn Wittikul has duly been re-elected as Mayor of Hua Hin. The election was separated into 2 sections, namely Prachuap municipality, and the Hua Hin municipality and there were a total of 35 mayoral candidates & 485 candidates  for each polling station with a limit of 600 users per unit. In each unit, one volunteer was nominated to perform the temperature screening before entry to prevent the risk of the Covid-19 virus. Mr Wanlop Singhaseni, the governor of Prachuap Khiri Khan, came out to vote early at the polling station in Prachuap district, and also encouraged people to do the same. Full details will be revealed in due course but the people of Hua Hin have united in placing their faith in Mr Nopporn to continue in the job and build the future for the region.

The Thai government wants people to be confident about the vaccines that Thailand has brought in, because it believes that once 70% have had their injection the country will see a fully fledged opening of the country, which will result in a faster  Now back to Hua Hin. After the local elections have ended, whether we get a new Mayor or the old Mayor is re-elected, we hope that this can be a great benefit to the city of Hua Hin. The winner will be in a hurry to follow up on their campaign promises  local entrepreneurs is that it will be supported by government agencies, and by good planning in the promotion of Hua Hin City from TAT of Prachuap. Local companies of course must be sustainable and able to stand by themselves, they must ensure that  when the country fully re-opens. DURIAN PALA-U TO ATTAIN GAP STANDARD The physical characteristics of durians of Pala-u are that they are oval-shaped, have a sharp prickle, the skin is green and brown, the groove is clear, the stalk is quite large and brown, and when the fruit is mature it tastes sweet with a full-flavour, it generally has a small seed, and a weight of between 1.5-5kg. Durian Pala-u is one of the most famous products of Prachuap  long-distances to sample them. They have been able to create their own brand that is GI registered by the Department of Intellectual Property, No. 54100075. Durian Pala-u, which is widely regarded as among the finest in the World, is a Monthong Durian with a unique identity and taste and a relatively mild odour, if you’ve tasted durian before and didn’t like it, maybe you should give Durian Pala-u a try?  Office and Hua Hin District Agricultural Office have supported in many ways the agricultural community enterprise to grow durian in Pala-u, Huai Sua Yai Sub-district of Hua Hin, including group management, processing, reducing costs, increasing productivity and improving product quality. The primary aim is to encourage all farmers to get the GAP agricultural safety standard certification, and to extend the plots where durian of Pala-u is grown in order to increase quality consistency and build confidence for consumers, both domestic and international. Two years ago 50 large plot farmers with a combined area of 500 rai formed a group with a view to reducing production costs by mixing their own fertilisers combining organic and chemical elements, and producing biopharmaceuticals to control pest damage. They also formed a committee to exchange knowledge, plan production schedules and create online marketing, all this has enabled them to produce consistently high quality fruit for which demand is growing quickly, GAP certification is the next step in their process.

 

RAISING THE STANDARD OF THAI AQUATIC PRODUCTS

 FMO plans to improve the options of Thai aquatic producers by meeting international standards in terms of quality and price putting them on a par with developed countries. This will increase the potential market for fishermen and aquaculture farmers and meet the needs of consumers throughout ASEAN and beyond. In the first phase, the target is to expand the border markets at Dan Singkhon, Prachuap Khiri Khan province, Phu Nam Ron, Kanchanaburi province and Mae Sot, Tak province. These three checkpoints bordering Myanmar, are where a large number of aquatic products are imported from Myeik and Dawei, and are considered to offer great potential. The FMO will push these three checkpoints into a market for buying/ selling, exchanging and distributing aquatic animal products to stimulate the border economy and help farmers in the surrounding area to earn more income, according to the policy of the Ministry of Agriculture and Cooperatives. Mr Montien said that they have already started writing plans and projects for Dan Singkhon and are in discussions with Prachuap Khiri Khan Province to commence very soon, as for Phu Nam Ron and Mae Sot, they are still in the process of studying the areas. The FMO sees the potential of the natural resources of Myanmar, (especially marine resources), and the purchasing power of Myanmar people that will only increase as the level of economy and social development increased in recent years.

ART ARBOUR HUA HIN ART FESTIVAL



gathering took place on March 20 at Baan Silapin, Hin Lek Fai, Hua Hin, to inform the press about the 2 ‘Art Arbour Hua Hin Art Festival’ that will take place at the same venue from April 3-25. Among those present were the Sheriff of Hua Hin, Mr Prayong Chanteng, TAT Director of Prachuap Khiri Khan, (Hua Hin), Ms Soraya Hom Chuen, and Russian artist Ms Liana Brix. The event will aim to support local artists and feature local Thai culture and old art activities and it is hoped will draw good support from Thai people, foreign expats and tourist visitors during April. The exhibition will feature paintings from the local Hua Hin artist house with special emphasis on old styles, and there will be live demonstrations showing techniques in drawing, watercolour painting and oil painting. There will also be a feature of artistic styles and artists from other regions including the North, Central, and North East, showing off their skills. The special feature of this year’s show will be the inclusion of Russian female painters as a result of the invitation by the owner of Baan Silapin, Thawee Kesa Ngam, to the wife of the Russian Ambassador to the UN in Thailand, Ms Liana Brix. All paintings showcased at the festival will be available for visitors to view and buy. Baan Silapin is one of Hua Hin’s most renowned places for tourists, both Thai and foreigners, to come and see and experience the art and traditional culture that is showcased from each region across the country. It is one of the special places in Hua Hin that can really boost tourism and offers huge potential for the city to increase visitor numbers, according to statistics and

research results from the tourism authorities, it was found that any location inspired by art or artists, be they galleries, museums, churches or temples, are popular amongst travellers. Baan Silapin will also this year open various displays, one of which will be dedicated to a collection of 21 years of antiques, in another, coconut shells will be adapted by wonderful craftsmanship into various products that can add beauty and function to people’s lives. And Mr Koichi, a Japanese artist, will also attend the exhibition to feature ‘Nano Nano Art’.         Wanwimon Kesa Ngam will participate in organising activities on Saturdays and Sundays for children and all ‘art lovers’. RESIDENTS ASK FOR RETHINK OVER SOI 112 BARRIER INSTALLATION H

ua Hin villagers have pleaded for the local government to review the safety issues regarding the central barrier installation of the rural road in Soi Hua Hin 112 following frequent accidents at the site. Director of Engineering Division of Administrative Organization, Thap Tai Sub-district of Hua Hin, Prachuap Khiri Khan province, Mr Sorawit Sawekaew, joined with representatives of nearby villages to support the complaint, the argument being that since the central barrier was installed there has been an increase in the number of accidents on that section of Soi 112. They are requesting that it be removed. Director of Prachuap Khiri Khan Rural Roads, Mr. Prasit Cheenavetsart, clarified that work started on October 1st to construct a rubber covered concrete central barrier, over a 6,100 metre section of Soi 112, with plans to be finished by April 28th at a cost of 25 million baht, 30% is so far completed. He has said he will take account of the views of the local villagers but must also consider the views of those regularly using the road but not necessarily living local to the area, the overall aim is to improve transit and to maximise safety.



r Santhad Dejkerd is a local doctor and also the owner of Boon Morakot Osot formula, which contains cannabis oil, he is also a leader of civil society networks in Bangsaphan District, Prachuap Khiri Khan province. Mr Santhad sent a letter to the secretary of the Office of the Narcotics Control Board, (ONCB), to ask permission for 8 villages in the Chang Raek subdistrict of Bang Saphan Noi, to be a special permitted area to plant and take Mitragyna Speciosa, (kratom), for research into the treatment of disease and solving addiction. The ONCB has granted permission for these 8 villages to possess 1,036 kratom trees, with QR codes installed and the next step is waiting for the removal of kratom from the prohibited drug list by statute. After this then the people at Chang Raek can carry no more than 30 kratom leaves within the area, which can be used as an ingredient in combination with other herbal medicines for treating diseases. In this regard, the model area approach was studied at Baan Numphu sub-district, Na San district, Surat Thani province, this is an area where kratom is now legal by using the Community Statute to oversee the problem of kratom and other drugs. At this moment, tambon Chang Raek has established a community constitution, to create a participatory process to encourage the locality to be a center for preventing, and solving drug addiction problems adhering to specific guidelines. There is a kratom control committee at sub-district and village level to monitor and evaluate compliance within the Community Statute As for the qualifications? The person who eats and possesses Kratom must be of Thai nationality, over 18 years, not be a pregnant woman, be domiciled in the local area with evidence, and be a registered kratom user. They must also consent to surveillance and attend an annual health examination, failure to attend will result in removal from the programme. The permitted person must not allow others to consume and possess the kratom. In addition, after the survey, each household can have no more than 2 trees, if more than that, they must be cut and destroyed. Households that own the kratom must be registered and confirmed by the survey by keeping a QR code attached to each tree. In the event of loss of a tree households must notify the constitution immediately, propagation or replanting trees and trading of kratom leaves is strictly prohibited.



unday 21 March 2021 will go down as the day Walking Football was officially launched in Thailand at True Arena Sports Club Hua Hin. The game is played in over 56 countries around the world and it even has it’s own World Cup, which this year is being played in Malmo Sweden. The concept of the game is very simple and easy, it is a slower version of normal football, (or soccer depends from where you come from) with a few slight rule changes such as no tackling, no physical contact with your opponents and obviously no running, which is the hardest part. The idea is to get both men and women aged 40+ to do an activity that includes team spirit, well being and exercise at the same time. True Arena Sports Club was having an Open Weekend 19th -21st March and the organisers of Walking Football Thailand, Steve Johnston and Gary Stevens saw this as a perfect opportunity to measure the interest among the people of Hua Hin and it seemed a very successful introduction with over 40 people from both the international and Thai community turning up. Gary is a former professional international footballer and some of his excolleagues are playing Walking Football in the UK. He thinks it is a great way to not only do something positive in your life but also just because you are a certain age does not mean that you cannot enjoy a game that you may have loved all your life and therefore you can pull on your favourite team jersey again and relive your youth. Steve believes that this is an opportunity to develop a sport that both men and women can enjoy and maybe even help bring people together on a social aspect because sometimes some people can feel a little bit lonely, even though we are living in paradise. This could bring something back into their lives with a sense of looking forward and meeting new friends and having fun. Would you like to join? PRIVILEGE CLUB EVENTS AT BANYAN GOLF



Last month The Banyan organised two events, one of which was Banyan Privilege Club’s retrospective New Year party for the members.   March, Banyan Privilege Club organised a Sunset Cocktail Party at Banyan Residences Villas Hua Hin. It was a beautiful evening and the location was spectacular. We were welcomed by a warm and joyful ‘Sa-Was-Dee’ by the staff, and on entering the residence we felt the atmosphere and joy in the fresh air, and facing the panorama of the ocean we all took the photos to commemorate the evening. The staff at Banyan Residences were very friendly, always there if you needed any assistance with a smile on their face. There is also a big swimming pool that is facing the ocean side with beautiful scenery on the horizon. The evening was filled with a great selection of live music, delicious foods and happy faces all around. The party was a massive success and a wonderful night, it was heartwarming to see such a sociable group of around 250 members and friends enjoying the evening together filled with great chat and laughter. The second event was on March 20 . A delightful evening was had by a large gathering of guests at Banyan Golf Club on the Saturday evening. Hosted by Tjeert Kwant

and Banyans Stuart Daly, the BBQ buffet evening with live music and an amusing and entertaining speech by Thai actor, Vithaya Pansringarm, was very well received by those attending. The evening followed on from the 2 nd Banyan Privilege Club Open Day & Golf Classic which again proved to be a huge success. Large numbers came along to try their hand at golf for the first time and receive tuition from resident golf professional John Wither, followed by a few holes on the pristine golf course. There was also the golf tournament to be enjoyed by the members. Numerous fantastic prizes were given out during the evening including True Arena memberships, hotel stays at Intercontinental, Holiday Inn and G hotels among others, as well as spa days at the luxurious Chiva Som resort and free golf lessons. For many the highlight of the evening was the amusing speech by ‘Pu Vithaya’ about how he only got into acting in his fifties after a variety of other careers, and his pride at representing his country in the martial art of Kendo. He also revealed that he will be a part of the new movie, Thirteen Lives directed by Ron Howard, that chronicles the events of the 2018 Tham Luang cave rescue of the junior football team and their coach that is about to begin shooting in Australia.

SEVEN ADDITIONAL WASTEWATER TREATMENT MACHINES AT KLONG TAKIAB

ermanent Secretary of Municipal Affairs and current mayor of Hua Hin, Mr Jirawat Prammani, worked alongside the Division of Public Work to monitor the progress of the installation and commissioning of new electrical waste water treatment systems at the Royal Initiative Canal Takiap. Currently, seven additional units have been installed, immediately increasing the capacity to treat waste waters by up to 500 cubic meters/ day. This will help improve the quality of the water in the canal and connecting canals, thus reducing the foul smell that has been bothering residents nearby. The reduction in waste will also result in a better ecological environment for the wildlife that rely on the waterways in the locality.

ince we now spend so much of our lives online, it is very important to know how to protect our data and information from internet frauds and scams. With this in mind the DSI, (Department of Special Investigation), has developed an Application called ‘Rootan’ which will inform users of cyber threats by means of emergency reports and news releases. The DSI has requested the cooperation of all the districts in Prachuap Khiri Khan province, asking each to use the provincial public relations channels to raise awareness of internet frauds and scams, and how the Rootan application can protect local firms, agencies, government organisations, and the general public. MANAGEMENT OF BEGGARS AND HOMELESS

ermanent secretary of the municipality and acting mayor of Hua Hin, Mr Jirawat Prammani, organised a visit to Chatchai market last month in response to complaints from traders there. Joining him on the visit were officials of the Social Welfare Division of Hua Hin municipality and the Social Development and Human Security Officer of Prachuap Khiri Khan province. The aim of the visit was to monitor homeless people sleeping in the area and beggars frequenting the market during trading hours. The traders and entrepreneurs of Chatchai fresh market feel that the problem has been getting worse and creates a bad feeling for customers and damages trade. In particular they refer to a woman in her 40’s that is in regular attendance walking around begging for money, furthermore when people refuse she shows signs of dissatisfaction and complains loudly. On the day of the authorities inspection however, the lady was not to be seen. Mr Jirawat therefore ordered the officers to continue to monitor the area and in particular the woman mentioned as he wishes to prevent a bad image of Hua Hin being projected.

WORK QUALITY CHECKED AT SOI HUA HIN 126

ermanent Secretary of the Municipality, Mr Jirawat Prammanee, and the Director of Building Control, Mr Somboon Phuaphan, joined with the city planning division, the public works division and waterworks division, located at Soi Hua Hin 126, to monitor progress and quality of the construction of reinforced concrete roads. This limited partnership construction project is due to be completed by May 17th with a budget of 4.95 million baht. After completion the road is expected to be an immense improvement for the traffic in the area and will be a great benefit for locals and the town.



BUMRUNGRAD HEART EXPERTISE COMES TO HUA HIN 

n 19 March the Be Well Heart Clinic opened in Hua Hin with the Governor of Prachuap Khiri Khan, Mr Palop Singhaseni, the guest of honour cutting the ribbon to declare the centre open The clinic is a joint venture together with the Be Well Medical Centre in Hua Hin and the Bumrungrad Heart Centre in Bangkok, combining the resources, skills and experience of both organisations. The heart clinic will be based at the Be Well Medical Centre and will provide diagnostic services, basic treatments, and rehabilitation programs. Through this initiative, patients in the Hua Hin area will be able to access the renowned expertise of the Bumrungrad Heart Centre much closer to home. KHAO TA MONG LAI FOREST PARK 

e were still hanging around in Prachuap province, but we didn’t know where to go next, and then I happened to see a post from one of my facebook friends that he visited Khao Ta Mong Lai Forest Park, so my friends and I decided to head out exploring again with that as our next target. We headed South on route 4, the main road coming out of Hua Hin, and drove for about an hour and a half, a left turn at Makro Prachuap, then a right before Wat Thammikaram Worawihan, then follow the main road along the seaside until crossing a bridge and following the road as it curves right and you’ve arrived at Khao Ta Mong Lai Forest Park without difficulty. Along the way, don’t forget to stop and take some pictures of the beautiful views and colourful fishing boats. Khao Ta Mong Lai Forest Park is located at Ao Noi, the park consists of two mountain ranges located 290-320 meters above mean sea level and a slope of more than 35 degrees and most of the areas are high cliffs, there is a trail from the park headquarters to the viewpoint along the peninsula and it is a distance of about 300 meters. There is a

trail up the peak but it is now closed for tourists’ safety. The beach is a bit rocky but it was easy to walk on the rocks, there were many people there picking shells off the rocks in the water, this part is a better view than the other side of the mountain and you could see the whole bay from this point. All climbing is prohibited but people were coming down from the hills in the late afternoon and sunset can be quite beautiful. We put up our tents by the sea where the atmosphere is very nice and quiet, there is lovely fresh air and a nice sea breeze and also there’s a chic cafe’ nearby which is good for our morning coffee. The cafe is also a great spot for sitting and watching the sunset, the atmosphere is excellent, drinks, food & desserts are available, and the price is also inexpensive starting from 30-40 Baht. The location for the tent here is quite good, let’s say one of the best camping spots in Prachuap province and also a landmark for the sunset on the beach, which you should not miss. Make an arrangement with friends and bring your family to go camping and experience nature, which will be a great experience for children as well.

The entrance fee to the park is free and if you bring your own tent, it charges 50 baht per person, but if you don’t have your own don’t worry too much, they can be rented for only 250 baht/tent, which comes with 2 bedding including. But if you’re not the type of person who loves sleeping on the sand, then there are many hotels around the National Park that you can find whatever your budget. We only stayed there for one night because some of our friends had to go back to work on Monday. Khao Ta Mong Lai Forest Park is a peaceful, natural respite from the minor bustle of small-town life, it’s a beautiful place for a picnic. I definitely recommend visiting once.
