HUA HIN TODAY

AN EXCITING NEW ERA BECKONS FOR Dear reader,

HUA HIN TODAY

It is a tremendous honour and privilege to be able to write to you as the new Editor-in-Chief of Hua Hin Today. As a resident of Hua Hin for almost 10 years, I have a very real and genuine sense of pride and responsibility in being appointed to the position. May I place on record my gratitude and thanks to Hua Hin Today’s Honorary Chairman Dr Thanachai Theerapattanavong for giving me the opportunity to contribute to this important publication and media platform. Joining me as part of this exciting new chapter at Hua Hin Today, is Rusada Chuenvichitr, who has been appointed managing director. An experienced media professional, and having worked with Khun Rusada for a relatively short period of time, I can already see the level of expertise and knowledge she will bring to the organisation. Khun Rusada and I will also be joined by Andre Milbradt who is appointed to the role of client relations manager. Andre will be responsible for sales and business development across all of Hua Hin Today’s platforms. My appointment will see Hua Hin Today embark on a new direction, which will incorporate the newspaper, but also grow our other platforms. Print will always remain the purest expression of what we do, our newspaper is not going anywhere. However, I see it as my role for Hua Hin Today to also be properly established online and on social media. In addition to the launch of a new website, Hua Hin Today will also step into the world of ‘on ground’ media, with a variety of events and seminars scheduled to be held later in the year - the details of which I am really looking forward to sharing with you. Hua Hin Today will bring you a comprehensive selection of news, information and features about Hua Hin, Cha Am and Pranburi. Most of all, I want Hua Hin Today to really represent the local expatriate community in Hua Hin and showcase many of the interesting personalities, groups and different people that have chosen to make Hua Hin their home. I hope you can start to see signs of this new direction in the latest edition of Hua Hin Today. The March issue, which you are reading now, brings news about the next stage in the plans for Hua Hin to become a medical and wellness hub, as well as details of possible new flights from Hua Hin Airport. And as for local expats, we connect with Stephane Rousseau, the new French honorary consul in Hua Hin, David Long from the ever popular Father Ted’s, local drone enthusiast Michael Brown who is capturing unique aerial footage of Hua Hin, and we go walking with the Hua Hin Dog Walking Club. Finally, I wish to thank the outgoing editor, Khun Visa Chimdee for all her hard work with Hua Hin Today during the last six years - what a fantastic legacy you have passed on to me. If you have read this far, thank you. I hope you continue to enjoy reading Hua Hin Today. Kind regards, Jonathan Fairfield Editor-in-Chief, Hua Hin Today jonathan@huahintoday.com

COVID Free Setting guidelines and develop health safety standards, such as SHA and SHA+, in order to limit the spread of COVID-19. To date, there are 777 businesses in the province who have passed the aforementioned standards. The chief inspector general was also updated on the vaccination rollout in the province, which has now resulted in 72 percent of people having received one dose, while 68 percent of people have received two doses. A further 20 percent of the local population have received a third ‘booster’ dose. Entrepreneurs warned against hiring illegal workers As part of the visit, Mr Peera also went to the Fishing Boat Control Center, or PIPO (Port in and Port Out) and the National Marine Interest Center in Bang Saphan to inspect the management of the local fishing industry. Currently, there are 3,546 registered fishing boats and 612 commercial fishing boats in Prachuap Khiri Khan. In its fishing industry, the province reported there has been a decrease in the number of unlawful operations. However, the biggest issue facing the industry is a shortage of labour, which is largely due to the lack of migrant workers who have been unable to enter Thailand during the pandemic. Mr Peera said that despite the shortage, business owners must not hire illegal foreign workers and tough legal action would be taken against any business that hires staff illegally.
