he Rector of Stamford International University in Hua Hin / Cha-Am, Dr. Bunmak Sirinowakul says that the university now offers bilingual Courses in Thai and English in preparation for the upcoming ASEAN Community. The Courses will serve as an academic focus at the university level for Phetchaburi and Prachuap Khirikhan foreign students who wish to live in Thailand. This will strengthen their capacity and competence in Thai and English while enabling Thai students to enhance English communicative skills. Entitled, ‘Laureate English’, the Courses include ten Bachelor Degree majors. These include aviation management, finance banking management, international business administration, international hotel business administration, import and export management, general marketing, accountancy, communication arts, advertising and English for tourism. Students taking the Course will enjoy in-class teaching with qualified lecturers for each subject. Each class will have between 25 and 45 students. The university is also using the ‘fast track’ curricula in which one academic year has three semesters. Students can study for only ? years followed by 480 hours of internship. The qualifications will be equal to that of America and England. Besides the bachelor degrees, Stamford Hua Hin/Cha-Am also offers Courses at the Master Degree level, in particular the MBA in international business management and public administration. These Courses are specially designed for those who would like to continue their studies in Hua Hin or Cha-Am without going overseas. The Deputy Rector of Stamford Hua Hin/Cha-Am Mr. Ekapong Na Ranong said that local people in Hua Hin and Cha-Am have known the university for over 17 years. Graduates have contributed at a high level in both the community and the political arena. From June 2013 university executives will upgrade education services in preparation for the ASEAN Community in terms of teaching and socio-cultural services. Not only will students study in class but they will also have to take part in local traditional and cultural events for increased self-improvement and academic competence. Stamford University does not originate in England or America. The origins are from Singapore where the university was established in 1950 as an international academic institution for Singaporeans. Since then the university has established many campuses in different countries including Thailand.
