Melissa Gilham Before Hugh Baird: Range High School Course: National Diploma in Construction

Since I’ve been on my course, I have shadowed a qualified building surveyor. He had to complete a full building survey of my company’s building and write up the review. In college, we have been to a brick manufacturing company, which was interesting.

Floristry

Floristry

Hugh Baird was recommended to me by work colleagues and has a good reputation. It’s a good college, friendly with good teachers. I like that I don’t have to give up work to further my career. I have worked in the florist for years as a shop assistant, dealing with customers daily. I want to be a successful florist and I’m hoping to go onto the Level 3 course in the near future. My advice to anyone thinking of coming to Hugh Baird would be to get stuck in and put effort into the course because it’s what you came to do. Make new friends and enjoy it.

Rebecca Donnelly Before Hugh Baird: St Ambrose Barlow High School Course: BTEC Level 3 Nat. Diploma in Engineering

Hugh Baird was the only place that offered the course I wanted to study. What I like about the course is the variation of things we do, it’s constantly changing and keeps me occupied and interested. We’ve visited different universities to show us what courses we can do and what my career choices are. We’re going to the Jaguar factory in West Bromwich soon too. I want to go to Liverpool University next to do Automotive and Mechanical Engineering. My ambition is to become a part of Formula 1. The support services are good. I’d advise anyone thinking of coming to Hugh Baird that if the course is what you want then go for it.
