AVIATION — I T ’ S I N O U R N AT U R E Safe, reliable and regular transport is essential for a society such as ours in Iceland to thrive. Our remote location — in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean — means Icelanders have always depended on good transportation. For centuries, our ancestors skilfully navigated the oceans. Later we took to the skies, and nowadays, air travel and cargo are a big part of our lives. Isavia plays a major role in aviation services in Iceland. We operate airports that connect different regions of Iceland and airports that connect Iceland with the rest of the world. Isavia controls air traffic in one of the world’s largest air traffic control areas, connecting three continents: Europe, Asia and North America. Each year, we ensure that 30 million travelers reach their destination safely.
Whether your journey is for leisure or business, or you’re simply passing through, a warm welcome awaits you. Isavia is committed to ensuring the safety and comfort of each and every visitor and, when it comes to dealing with Iceland’s unpredictable and often demanding forces of nature, we are the experts. Icelandic airports and ANS provider Isavia is the national airports and air navigation service provider and manages a control area of 5.4 million sq. km. as well as 15 scheduled service airports and over 30 other aerodromes and landing strips in Iceland. Keflavik International is the largest, with a passenger flow of more than fourteen times the population of Iceland.
CONNECTING THREE CONTINENTS Isavia Air Navigation Services provide excellent service and flexibility to the trans- Atlantic and Cross-polar air traffic as well as flights to and from Iceland, Greenland and the Faroe Islands.
A WARM WELCOME TO ICELAND Keflavik International Airport is the primary gateway to Iceland and has numerous times been awarded for service excellence. The airport was chosen the best airport in Europe in 2010 and 2014 and furthermore inducted in to the ACI Directors roll of excellence for service quality in 2014. The airport features comfortable and modern passenger and commercial facilities with extensive capacity on the North Atlantic and polar routes linking Europe and Asia with North America. In 2015 we welcomed 4.8 million passengers that travelled via the airport.
DOMESTIC O P E R AT I O N S Isavia manages 13 domestic airports in Iceland, as well as over 30 other aerodromes and landing strips. Reykjavik International Airport, located in the capital, is the centre for scheduled domestic operations. Akureyri Airport in the north and Egilsstaðir Airport in the east are international airports and serve as great connections to the nort-east part of Iceland.
