A Message from the Managing Director I hope this message finds you all in good spirits and looking forward to returning to your home away from home here in Carmel Highlands! Coming soon: Welcome to California Market at Pacific’s Edge! We are in the process of making several significant changes to the property, which will enhance your experience for many years to come. You may have heard about these, but we wanted to give you an update now that construction is underway. The first one is the construction of an outdoor dining deck that will add a wonderful outdoor experience to the Pacific’s Edge restaurant. This deck will have a glass railing/half-wall around its edge, and will include a louvered roof that can be opened to allow some filtered sunlight into the space, or can be closed to keep the rain and drizzle off those who enjoy dining in the out of doors. This area will
also have heaters and lights, so dining under the stars at night can be enjoyed as well. Once this is completed, we will be relocating California Market into Pacific’s Edge location, and will blend the best of both worlds for your dining options. Our culinary team is updating and adding to the menu selections to allow for more variety that will appeal to a wider range of tastes and price points. We look forward to sharing this new experience with you. Our Timeshare Sales Gallery, which has been located in the main Lobby of the lodge building, will be relocated to the area currently occupied by California Market. The gift shop will remain in its current location. Once Sales moves out of the Lobby, we will be freshening up the Lobby and create more planned activities where you can participate and socialize with each other. Other key updates will be the Sunset Bar, Lobos Lounge and the restrooms in the lodge. For those of you who are able to attend the weekly owners’ meeting, thank you for your time. Our management team appreciates the opportunity to visit with you each week and learn more about you and what we can do to make your stay as enjoyable as possible. We look forward to welcoming you back! Sincerely, Mel Bettcher Managing Director

Board Update Greetings from the Board!
We are happy to have this opportunity to reach out and stay in touch with all of our owners. The New Year started with maintenance week and replacement of items needing repair, such as patio sliders, new baseboards and tree trimming. Upgrades to our units will continue throughout the year with new TVs, repairs to patio decks, and teak furniture restoration. Big plans for the hotel, the Lobby, the lounge, and restaurants are underway, which you will read more about in the Message from the Managing Director. It is an exciting time! This year as a result of the survey we took last year and in an effort to save on maintenance fees, we have instituted a new housekeeping schedule. Instead of a two-hour deep clean daily, housekeeping does a mid-week clean and a departure clean. Daily they build a fire, make the bed, change towels and load the dishwasher (normally a 20-minute service). As a guest, if you prefer additional cleaning service during your stay, please tell the desk at check-in and it will be provided. While you are here, take advantage of all the amazing sights and activities we have close by. Whether it is hiking at Point Lobos, sitting on the deck at Nepenthe, wandering the hidden courtyards of Carmel or viewing harbor seals and otters off the coast in Pacific Grove, there is something to fulfill everyone’s passion. Since I live locally and often attend the owner’s meetings on Wednesday mornings, I am always impressed to listen to our owners, who all treasure their week—
or weeks—stay here. Our owners needs and desires are varied and differ depending on what is most important to them about their ownership. Nancy Mulvihill, Board VP (nmulvihill@comcast.net) and I are your owner representatives on the Board and are always available to hear your concerns. If we are present at a homeowner’s weekly meeting, please speak to us or contact us by email with your concerns, feedback, or great ideas! Sincerely, Susan Clark Board President Email: susclark@pacbell.net

EMPLOYEE SPOTLIGHT
Ryan Ryan was born in Auburn, California. He graduated from California State University at Monterey Bay in 2008. Ryan began his career at Hyatt Carmel Highlands as a bellman. After three years as a bellman, he chose to pursue a new and challenging opportunity. In 2012, Ryan was accepted into the manager-in-training program. During his yearlong venture in the manager-in-training program, Ryan gained valuable experience in many departments including Front Office, Engineering, Purchasing and Housekeeping. Upon completion of the program, he was presented with the opportunity to assume a permanent position as Assistant Executive Housekeeper. In June 2014, Ryan was promoted to Executive Housekeeper, overseeing all aspects of the Housekeeping department and working in concert with the rest of the team that makes up Highlands Inn. It would prove to be a challenging role to fill, but he was ready to take on the challenge. Ryan continues to develop within his role and is ready for the new and exciting challenges coming to the property with the hotel renovation and growth of the company. Ryan spends his free time hiking/ backpacking, cooking, and listening/ collecting music (the weirder, the better). Just recently, Ryan was named Manager of the Year for 2015. ADA Ramp One part of the renovation projects, slated for 2016, is the remodeling of the ADA ramp at the front of the Lodge. This concrete and redwood ramp will replace the existing concrete ramp, and will also include relandscaping the area with locally selected horticulture. Some large granite boulders will be added to give it the rugged coastal influence of Highlands Inn. The project will last 3 to 4 weeks and will have minimal impact on the surrounding areas. We are looking forward to a beautiful transformation.
California Market/ Sales Center Conversion With the relocation of California Market to the Pacific’s Edge, we are able to relocate the Timeshare Sales Gallery from the Lobby to the current space that California Market occupies. The move allows for the Lobby to return to a more intimate day-to-day setting for guests and owners, as well as special events. We have selected Clear on Black, a Southern California Interior Design Team, to assist with both locations. The Fireside Lobby will have a sense of social function. Everyone is excited about these welcomed enhancements to the property, which should be completed this year.
