Rainbow Film Festival_Double Page Editorial 30/07/2015 18:41 Page 1
Shropshire’s Rainbow Film Festival celebrates ten years this October, with another packed weekend of fabulous feature films, documentaries, Q&A’s, discussions and short film screenings. The Festival will be opened by the Mayor of Shrewsbury, Cllr. Miles Kenny.
There are a number of filmmakers and directors attending, one of whom Matt Carter, will be talking about his film, ‘Jayson Bend: Queen and Country’, in a Q&A after the screening.
Jayson Bend is an LGBT James Bond styled Action/ Comedy/Satire feature film. Royal Intelligence Ministry agent, Jayson Bend teams up with his Swiss counterpart to try and stop the launch of a satellite that will turn the owner of the largest global hair salon chain into one of the most powerful men in the world! ‘We screened it to a small audience in Ludlow last year. They laughed all the way through, so we decided to screen it at the main Festival this year,’ said Will Allaway. Once again, the Festival has teamed up with SpringOut, who have chosen the films with a lesbian focus. ‘Mom’s
Apple Pie: the Heart of the Lesbian Mother’s Custody Movement’, reminds us of the struggles lesbian mothers faced in the 1970’s. This is coupled with ‘Raising Hell’, interviews with the children of lesbian and gay parents talking about their lives.
Taking festival goers back even further, ‘Victim’, a film made in 1961 (Dirk Bogarde/Sylvia Syms), is a gay classic film noir. It tells the story of a high flying barrister who is cut down when he confronts the blackmail suffered by gay men in 1960’s Britain. This will be accompanied by a Q&A about the film with Peter Scott-Presland, the author of ‘Amiable Warriors’: a history of the pioneers who struggled for gay rights in the 50’s and 60’s. Two Short Film screenings, on Saturday and Sunday mornings, will showcase films from around the world. Once again, the audience will choose the best films for an Audience Award. There will be a chance to meet the directors at a Directors' Breakfast, on the Saturday at 8.00am.
Shropshire Rainbow Film Festival: 16th – 18th October, at The Old Market Hall Cinema and The Hive, Shrewsbury. Visit: www.rainbowfilmfestival.org.uk or Email: info@rainbowfilmfestival.org.uk

On a Friday Summer’s evening, myself and my Partner Jasmine were welcomed to the heart of Bridgnorth at the home of Spanish Tapas. An experience neither of us will rapidly forget…
THE HYPE REVIEW
CASA RUIZ
“The Taste of Spain, close to home”
“Casa Ruiz” is a family run Tapas Bar situated in the High Street of the Historic, Picturesque market town Of Bridgnorth. The doors were first opened in May 2009, since then the restaurants reputation has soared; and we wanted to have a taste! A restaurant with rustic, dark wood interior stripped floors and exposed beam ceilings.
The appearance of Casa Ruiz reflects its own unique style, personality and eccentric characters! They serve freshly cooked Tapas alongside carefully selected Spanish wines, beers and cider. They are perfect for a small intimate dinner, as we experienced and equally suitable for large fun parties and celebrations!
The night started with the lovely Jess, our waitress for the evening, bringing us the drinks menu. Without any deliberation I wanted to be taken back to my time in Barcelona and opted for a rather large “jug” of Sangria - Oh well, it was a Friday after all! Jasmine chose a diet coke being the designated driver for the evening… Emma, the manager of the restaurant explained to us that they also had a special for the evening –traditional Spanish Paella. This made my taste buds soar.
We were left to study the menu for ten minutes and allow ourselves time to take in the ambience of the restaurant.
Casa Ruiz Review_Double Page Editorial 28/07/2015 13:16 Page 2
Beautiful images and decor of Spanish culture, the scent of a candle burning away on the table, coupled with authentic Spanish acoustics above our heads set the scene exquisitely well. With Jasmine and I being inexperienced tapas eaters, we asked Jess to explain what we should maybe opt for and how many items to order (if I had my way this would have been the lot!). She recommended two/three tapas each to nibble on and share, but did pre-warn us we may well want more! She wasn’t wrong. We had the Pan Fresco to start, light fresh bread served with homemade Alioli sauce. The bread was moist and the subtle hints of garlic in the mayo like sauce accompanied it superbly well.
I went for the Olives – I noticed these in a large handmade bowl on the bar when I entered the restaurant which lured me straight in – this was great touch.
I’m a true advocate of seafood, so I could not resist the Gambas Con Garbadina; battered prawns tossed in a Chilli and Honey sauce. This mixture of sweet & sour worked very well, each king prawn proving as juicy as the last. Jasmine had the Tortilla
Española, a traditional potato and onion Omelette, of which there was plenty! This was the most surprising feature of the evening, the portion size. Without doubt if you want plentiful and stunning food at super prices, please do visit this eatery, you will definitely return!
Next up was the expertly plated Pinchos Morunos , Free range pork kebabs marinated with garlic, paprika and spices. The pork was juicy and lean; the spices gave it the little kick that made your senses think you were dining in a tapas bar, celebrating in the heart of a Spanish city. All of this when this gem of a restaurant is right on your doorstep! With our tummy’s feeling the full brunt of our escapade thus far, we had another dish to plough through, Calandracas. The dish was made up of delicate parcels of Chorizo, Ham and Cheese in a crispy batter. The blend of flavours made this dish unique and my personal favourite…I highly recommend!
As I slurped on my second glass of Sangria, we knew we had to leave room for a dessert, after all, it would be rude not to! Jasmine had the Chocolate Brownie with hazelnut and chocolate sauce with ice cream, the sheer smell of this pud was enough to turn anyone into a Chocolate lover. It radiated throughout the whole restaurant, warm sauce on a rich chocolate brownie. This is what girls dream of hey? I couldn’t decide on Crema Catalana or Peras Al Vino, crème brulee or pears in red wine respectively.
However, Jess swayed me in the direction of the Pears. Which turned out to be the one of the best desserts I’ve ever eaten – compliments to the Chef Sam! These pears were soft and sticky being poached in red wine with cinnamon and ice cream. I’m not often lost for words but this dessert swept me off my feet and I let all the staff know how amazing it really was! All in all, this night left our tummies full and our memories lasting. We even spent twenty minutes talking to manager Emma at the end of the evening, in which she shared her own experiences of Spain and informed us that they also offer a gluten free menu and have special’s on Tuesday’s and Sunday’s where you can get two tapas for £5.95 or three tapas for £8.95. What a Bargain! They also won the Trip Advisor Hall of Fame in 2015 with 5 years of excellence. This restaurant is one not to be forgotten and we will definitely be returning, more than once! Thanks to Emma, Jess (whose own family supply some of the food at the restaurant from their own butchers shop) and the Chef Sam in particular for a Friday evening we will not forget!

Good Times Bistro Review_Double Page Editorial 29/07/2015 19:59 Page 1
THE HYPE REVIEW Good Times Bistro “Good Food, Good Music, Good Times... It’s What We Are All About”
In the heart of Madeley, there is a fabulous new eatery, Good Times Bistro. This family owned Bistro is like a blast from the past, with Retro 70’s décor, furniture and tableware.
My husband Stef and I were excited go along and see what all the hype was about, so on a warm Friday evening we drove down to Madeley. There is parking right outside the door which was great, we went inside and it was like going back to my childhood! The colourful, bold patterns, original 70’s furniture and of course lava lamps galore all blended together perfectly and a ‘comfortableness’ which made me feel right at home.
We were greeted and shown to our table, and within minutes we had nibbles and a mimosa aperitif to wet our appetites. There were plump green and black olives, along with pretzels and tortilla chips, which were perfect for keeping me going while I browsed the menu. Dan, our drinks waiter for the evening came to take our order, I had offered to drive so opted for a diet coke but Stef had decided he would let his hair down and chose a Paparuda Pinot Grigio, a Romanian Pinot, packed full of ripe honeyed fruit, which he described as extremely moreish any excuse for another glass! We ordered our starter course, Stef had spotted one of his favourite starters – ‘The Rough With The Smooth’ Pate Plate, which had a smooth chicken liver parfait, along with a coarse meaty pate served with fresh
toast triangles and a homemade red onion marmalade and I had noticed that there was a Tapas Plate on which you could choose any three from Chorizo and Cheddar Stuffed Mushrooms, Chicken Fillet Sate, Smoked Salmon, Spicy Buffalo Wings, Melon and Parma Ham, Marinated Mushrooms, Hummus & Pitta Bread, Al’s Potato and Egg Salad and a new option of Patatas Bravas– A hard choice indeed but I went for Smoked Salmon, Hummus and Patatas Bravas. They arrived in no time at all and looked amazing, on brilliant glass fish shaped plates (original 70’s style!), so we tucked in enthusiastically – Stef was delighted with his choice and let out little moans of delight as he savoured every mouthful and my Tapas was delicious, the Salmon was perfect and the Patatas Bravas was simply divine, bursting with flavours and with a spicy kick – spot on! We had a chat with the owner Pam, who explained that the Chef Alan is her son, as is Dan – the family had come up with the idea of opening the Bistro together as they have owned the building for many years, previously running the family accounting business from there, which moved to other premises a while back. They have owned restaurants before including one in America, and so Good Times Bistro was born. I asked Pam what she would recommend for our main courses and she explained that one of her favourite dishes is the Chicken Dijonaise, as it’s so rich and creamy and the perfect ‘comfort’ dish – I was sold and ordered it to try for myself. Stef loves steak, so
Good Times Bistro Review_Double Page Editorial 29/07/2015 19:59 Page 2
when he spotted ‘The Steak’ – two tender slices of ribeye, pan sautéed and served with homemade pepper sauce – he knew this was the one for him. We ordered some more drinks from Dan and listened to the Retro music – all from the 70’s era, which were brilliant! I couldn’t help but sing along with ‘Staying Alive’ by The Bee Gees – a real classic!
The Good Times Team!
In no time at all our main courses arrived and the aromas alone had my mouth watering. The Steak was so juicy and tender that it melted in the mouth, there were Roasted Potatoes, Roasted Mediterranean Vegetables, Creamed Potatoes with Cheese and Herbs and Cauliflower & Broccoli in Cheese Sauce – WOW! The flavours were phenomenal, everything cooked to perfection and bursting with taste. My Chicken Dijonaise was simply stunning, Pam was definitely right about this dish, the chicken was wonderful - with its creamy sauce with a hint of Dijon mustard and sautéed mushrooms, shallots and a hit of garlic flamed in Brandy, a combination which would be hard to beat. We were stuffed!
We took a few moments to let the food settle and finish up our drinks when the dessert menu arrived; we glanced at each other and knew that we would not be able to resist trying one. There was Deep Dish Apple Pie, Fabulous Waffles which are prepared on order and come with optional ‘Boozy Fruit Sauces’ or lashings of Butter & Maple Syrup, Fresh Mango Sorbet but we opted for New York Style Baked Cheesecake – with Boozy Fruit Sauce and Fresh Fruit Salad served with liquer. Stef’s Cheesecake was amazing – I know as I couldn’t resist trying some! It was light and creamy and the boozy fruit sauces complimented it brilliantly and my Fresh Fruit Salad was the perfect thing to round off my meal – full of chilled Strawberries, Peach, Pineapple and Melon but the liquer was the key – it brought all of them together beautifully. The portions are very generous and we had a couple of times when we thought we might be beaten – but the food is so good that you really want to devour every morsel! Good Times isn’t just the name – it is the ethos of the Bistro and whole ensemble blends together into exactly that – a really Good Time!

THE HYPE REVIEW
The White Hart “Glorious Scenery &
Mouth-watering Food, For Special Occasions”
We really enjoy the summer months and always like to spend time around the River Severn in the lovely town of Ironbridge. So, because of this we were extremely pleased to have the opportunity to go along to The White Hart Café Bar and Bistro to soak up the atmosphere of this warmly charming location. The Bistro is situated adjacent to the river, which affords a fantastic view of the beautiful greenery of the Ironbridge Gorge; which I must say, is simply stunning. The White Hart is a well presented beer house that has been nicely improved and renovated to give off a relaxed, comforting feeling as you approach the well laid out courtyard area outside of the main entrance. The outdoor seating area is nicely arranged, with wooden tables and parasols to take in the lovely summer sunshine. Going inside revealed an incredibly well presented array of tables and chairs all in keeping with the eighteenth century setting, including wooden floors and roof beams. We were greeted by the lovely bar staff, and whilst our drinks were being poured, we chatted about the bistro.
The White Hart is a perfect location for special occasions, such as birthday events and anniversaries as well as posh ‘barbies’. During the day it is a relaxed café bar, and in the evening a bistro restaurant and cocktail bar. We were very impressed with how luxurious everything looked, and we were pleased with the very pretty layout of the upstairs dining room which had a great view of the Severn.
The White Hart_Double Page Editorial 30/07/2015 10:21 Page 2
The chandeliers were almost gravity defying with their large zigzag construction, which complimented the superb art on the walls.
We were seated at our table and the menu was already presented ready for us to peruse. The dinner menu options looked absolutely mouth-watering with some really fantastic choices. For our starters, I opted for Pigeon Breast, Roasted Beets, Purple Cauliflower and Hazelnut Dressing and my Wife chose the Heritage Tomato and Basil Salad with Whipped Goats cheese and Tomato Essence.
Whilst we were waiting for our starters to arrive we were presented with some tasters, which are served on the weekends, to sample. These tasters were presented in a small glass sitting
atop a saucer and contained a fabulous mixture of rice and herbs topped with a king prawn – simply delicious.
I was intrigued by the wine of the month, and took the opportunity to order a glass of Michael Leon Pinot Gris which is a sweeter wine perfect for stronger flavoured meaty dishes, which would perfectly compliment the pigeon breast.
The starters arrived and they were fantastically well laid out with a very artistic flair. I really enjoyed the combination of the beetroot and hazelnuts which really brought out the flavour of the pigeon. Eileen commented that the cheese on her dish was scrumptious, and kept eating until everything was gone.
I would definitely recommend the White Hart as a top tier destination to enjoy excellent food and wine.
The music in the restaurant was relaxed and really added to the experience as we waited for the main courses. Eileen had ordered Seared Sea Trout, Crab and Herb crushed potato with a Samphire and Crab Bisque and I had gone all out and requested the Roast Fillet and Belly of Pork with Peas, Black Pudding, Baby Onions and Black Cabbage. When the food arrived it was absolutely stunning and I was incredibly happy with how well the flavours matched the visuals of both my own dish and Eileen’s. The pork was exactly to my liking and I was enjoying every mouthful. Of course I had to try some of Eileen’s food too – it looked phenomenal.
We decided to round off the evening with some lovely sweets and I went for the Treacle Tart and Banana Ice cream and my wife went with the Pistachio Cake, Raspberry Parfait and Sorbet with Roast Peach. We were both extremely happy with our desserts and the flavours were incredible – with special thumbs up to the Parfait and Sorbet which I really enjoyed. We were both extremely impressed with how nice the evening had gone and we will not be leaving it too long before we will go back to try out some of the other fabulous options.

Urey’s Street Food Bar
“We don’t do ‘Fast Food’ We do Good Food Fast”
I went along to sample the delight’s available ay Urey’s with my work colleague Simon. Everything from the Sides to Puddings are Homemade so as soon as you pull up in the car park, you just follow your nose, with the tantalising smells of fresh food beckoning you over. It was a lovely day so we took a look at the options on the menu, and were amazed at the array of different dishes to choose from. Norma suggested that we try a starter of Patharka Kebab – Beautifully seasoned Lamb in a traditional Asian bread which was light and flaky, served along with tomato, cucumber and lashings of Mint Yogurt. This really awakened my taste buds. Urey’s offer 3 different portion sizes, Small at £3.99, Large at £5.99 and XL at £7.99. The XL option comes with an extra-large portion of meat (Great for Body Builders etc…)
Firstly
You decide firstly from: Beef, Lamb, Chicken, Goat, Fish, Prawns, Tofu or Quorn.
Urey's Street Food Bar_Double Page Editorial 13/08/2015 17:05 Page 2
Secondly
Then you select one of the following sauces: Indian: Korma, Tandoori, Tikka, Masala, Biryani or Sagwala Thai: Green Curry, Red Curry or Chilli & Ginger Caribbean: Jerk, Curried Fish or Curried Goat Chinese: Chow Mein, Szechwan or Sweet & Sour Japanese: Katsu Chilli or Italian
Thirdly
Choose: Noodles, Rice, Pasta or Couscous
Finally
Select your Spice: Mild, Medium, Hot or Extra Hot.
Then you can simply choose some Side Orders: Garlic Bread, Homemade Chips, Pakoras or Sweet Potato chips.
I went for – Curried Goat, Medium with Rice and Simon decide to try Prawns, Sagwala, Medium with Rice. We also had a portion of Chips, Sweet Potato Chips and Pakoras to share! The dishes arrived in no time at all and were as amazing as they sound. The fresh ingredients blended together into
a mouth-watering combination, which was bursting with flavours, I could taste the freshness of the Garlic and the Goat was so tender I barely had to chew it. It is hard to describe just how good the dishes were but if I had to put it into words – Delectable would probably be the one I would choose. The Sweet Potato Chips were amazing - so tasty and sweet (well I suppose it’s in the name), we polished them off in no time at all and the Pakoras were fresh and crispy with lots of flavour. I was absolutely bursting but Norma said that she had saved us some dessert – Strawberry Cheesecake for me and Banoffee Cheesecake for Simon and there was no way I was going to miss out on such a treat! The Strawberries were huge, plump and sweet and the rich & creamy cheesecake was simply divine with just the right amount of crunch in the base to round it off perfectly. Simon said that his Banoffee was also stunning and finished the lot off in record time.
Urey’s cater for just about everyone as your meal is prepared and cooked before you. So whether you are following a diet or specific eating plan or you have food allergies, you still have a huge choice of menu. Your meal is cooked individually to pure perfection. Nothing is too much trouble for Urey’s – All you have to do is ask!
We will definitely be going back to Urey’s again and again – I can’t wait to try some of the other options available and would recommend not only the wonderful food with the freshest of ingredients, the warm friendly service that makes you feel
instantly at ease but also the great value for money. All you need to do is decide which dish is going to be YOUR favourite!

The Blue Elephant
My husband Stef and I were looking forward to sampling the contemporary Indian Cuisine at The Blue Elephant in Ketley. The Restaurant is situated on a large corner plot and boasts beautiful views of the park to the rear. The feel is contemporary with a large open plan space, thoughtfully positioned tables and a comfy waiting area, for those ordering takeaway or waiting to be seated. They have just installed air conditioning too, which was a really nice bonus.
Stef and I were shown to our table and given the menus to browse. We got started with some Poppadum’s and a selection of Mint Yogurt, Chutney, and Mixed Pickle to pile on top. These were really tasty, on the freshly cooked crispy poppadum’s, my favourite being the Mixed Pickle which was full of flavour and really kick started my appetite. We ordered our drinks, I stuck with a coke but Stef decided to order a Cobra lager which he loves with curry. We had a chat with Mahmoud and asked what dishes he would recommend, as we fancied a change from our usual, he explained some of the options and we settled on starters of Lamb Tikka for Stef and King Prawn Butterfly for me, and the main courses we decided to try Ali’s Special for Stef and Murgh Aachari for me. The starters arrived really quickly and looked fabulous, we tucked in enthusiastically; Stef said that the Lamb was amazingly tender, and melted in his mouth, the flavours were spot on and the fried onions finished the combination off nicely. My King Prawn Butterfly was great, really fresh

and crunchy and finished with some fresh salad – A great start!
We sipped our drinks, and waited for the main courses to arrive. They arrived and looked fantastic, with beautiful presentation and nice little touches, like carved tomatoes and cucumber. We had some Pilau Rice and a Garlic Nan Bread to accompany the mains, my Murgh Aachari – Chicken, cooked with fresh garlic, ginger, mango pickle, exotic herbs and spices – it was delightful, the chicken was succulent and the sauce was blended to perfection with just the right amount of Garlic and the fusion of flavours made sweet by the mango pickle, beautiful with the Garlic Nan. Stef had opted for a hotter dish in Ali’s Special – Boneless Chicken with strips of onions & pepper, green chillies, fresh palok and clove of garlic. He was really pleased with Mahmoud’s
recommendation, it was just the right amount of spice and he was glad of the air conditioning as he was getting hot! The Chicken in this dish was sliced thin, which let the flavours seep right through every piece and Stef taking some gulps of Cobra in between mouthfuls to cool the fire on his tongue – Brilliant!

Woody’s Warren Café and Playbarn This is an exciting time for Park Lane Centre, with the completion of our fantastic new facility, Woody’s Warren Café and Playbarn.
The idea behind Woody’s Warren was evolved in response to a decline in the number of play sessions and activities for children locally. This has a particular impact during the school holidays, when both children and parents can struggle to find low cost, local activities. Woody’s Warren has been created through a successful bid to Telford and Wrekin Council’s Community Pride Fund for £100,000. This allowed Park Lane Centre to relocate the existing kitchen into what was a large store room. The soft play area was then created on the site of the old kitchen and servery, once the walls and pillars had been removed.
Local children attended workshops with artist Rick Shaw, who then used their art to create the woodland themed mural for the café walls. The newly refurbished café offers healthy and family friendly, affordable meals. Freshly made sandwiches, wraps and baguettes are available with a variety of fillings. Daily seasonal specials and delicious cakes are also made on the premises as are the meals featured in our children’s menu.
For visitors to Park Lane Centre who would like refreshments but do not want to visit the playbarn, we have created Bluebell Corner, an attractive, separate, fully serviced seating area. The playbarn is suitable for children age 8 and under and costs just £1.50 per session.
Woody’s Warren is open Monday to Friday from 8.30am - 6.00pm and Saturdays from 10am - 1.00pm with exclusive use of the playbarn for parties available on Saturdays from 1pm. Party bags are included for each child along with a choice of meal and soft drink.

Bringing A Night Out To Your Workout! Clubbercise Telford...
Since having a baby a few years ago I have been struggling to find a way to enjoy myself whilst getting fit without feeling self-conscious. Before kids my favourite past time was clubbing and 90s dance music and I was amazed to find an actual class that would incorporate all of these aspects. I entered the hall for the clubbercise class and was immediately met by the familiar and loved sounds of the 90s, as I passed into the room the lights were off and the floor was lit up with disco lights and the other members neon outfits and glow sticks. Immediately at ease due to the dim lighting and familiar music I was warmly greeted to my fellow clubbers of a wide range of ages, both male and female. After brief greetings I was passed my own glow sticks and the music and routine began with Jac on stage leading us all. The routine began with a warm up, stretching all the forgotten muscles to a well-known soundtrack. Within the hour session the beat increased along with the amount of movement and glow stick waving until we were all dancing away burning from 500-1000 calories without even realising it! After a brief dance off we were all lead into a warm down, re-stretching and relaxing all of our muscles again aided by the amazing music and reassurance and guidance from

Reminiscent of my clubbing days but without the alcohol and self-consciousness, at the end of the session everyone had worked hard but were still in brilliant spirits.
All of the routines were easy to follow and you could throw yourself into them as much as you felt that you could – after all everything was only lit by the forgiving disco lights and although very much part of the group you felt that you could work to your own ability with Jacs guidance without any pressure in your own little clubbercise world. I am definitely hooked and will be back for the next session for a little bit or reminiscent escapism and I will definitely be bringing my nearest and dearest.
For £5 including your glow sticks it is not only much cheaper than a night out clubbing, you also wake up feeling revived and toned. Multi-platinum superstars Duran Duran will release their 14th studio album, Paper Gods on September 11th through Warner Bros. Records. Singer Simon Le Bon, keyboardist Nick Rhodes, bassist John Taylor, and drummer Roger Taylor recorded the album in London with producers Nile Rodgers, Mark Ronson, Josh Blair, and Mr Hudson. The record features special guests Janelle Monáe (on the first single “Pressure Off”), former Red Hot Chili Peppers guitarist John Frusciante, Canadian Juno-Award winning singer Kiesza, British singer/songwriter Mr Hudson, violinist Davidé Rossi and actress Lindsay Lohan. The album was mixed by Mark ‘Spike’ Stent. The songs on Paper Gods capture the duality and sense of conflict at the heart of Duran Duran’s music. “It really goes back to that strange early Duran mix: the hard-edged pop, coexisting with this dark, weird, experimental side,” John says. “That’s something that’s essential to all of us,” Nick adds. “It’s great to be able to lift people’s spirits — and your own — with a strong shot of pure pop, but the world we live in isn’t all just made of that stuff, so it seems natural to me that we have kept one foot in the darker, more Gothic side of life.” Early sessions for Paper Gods began in 2013, with Mark Ronson and engineer Josh Blair once again joining the band in their south London recording studio, as they had for 2011’s All You Need is Now, which was produced by Ronson. When Ronson was called away to begin working on his own album, Duran Duran and Blair hooked up with the Kanye West/Jay-Z collaborator Ben “Mr” Hudson, and the sessions caught fire. In the summer of 2014, Ronson returned once more to the project, adding long-time Duran collaborator, Nile Rodgers to the mix for two of the album’s standout tracks. The remaining songs were co-produced by Josh Blair and the band.
“We found a whole new level of inspiration on this album,” says Rhodes. “We’ve allowed ourselves the time to make music that we can be proud of,” adds Le Bon. “I judge what we release by my favourite albums — Horses, Harvest, Let It Bleed, Blue, Transformer, Aladdin Sane. Those are classic albums. The only rule is it’s got to be music you can live with for the rest of your life.”
CHIC co-founder Nile Rodgers and Mark Ronson co-wrote, and produced the tracks “Pressure Off” and “Only in Dreams”. Rodgers also features on the first single from what will be the band’s 14th studio release. The former harks back to the taut funk of Duran Duran’s 1986 album Notorious, which was also co-produced by Rodgers. “Notorious was a strong touchstone for the band,” says Roger Taylor. “All You Need is Now definitely reflected our earlier albums, but our starting point here was Notorious. We’re fortunate to be able to be inspired by our own back catalogue – not many bands can say that.”
DURAN In a collaboration overseen by China Chow, the band worked closely with Los Angeles-based artist Alex Israel, who created the album's cover art. It features a collage of images that reference the visual history of Duran Duran, each placed like a sticker on a reproduction of Israel's "Sky Backdrop" painting. The logo and graphic design is by Brian Roettinger.
Alongside news of the new album, Duran Duran have also announced that they will perform a series of dates on their UK arena tour that kicks off in late November. Formed in Birmingham in 1978, Duran Duran is one of the most culturally influential and commercially successful bands of all time, topping the charts around the world over the past three decades and selling more than 100 million records worldwide. The band has been honoured with multiple Grammy, BRIT, Ivor Novello, and MTV Video Music Lifetime Achievement Awards, as well as a 20th Century Style Icon award from the City of Milan. In July, they will receive the Spotify UK Lifetime Achievement Award. Tireless innovators, they are always at the vanguard of music, fashion, art, technology and film — a group with unique and everlasting appeal.

Ford Focus ST MOTORING FEATURE
The new Focus ST is a genuine performance car which, at the same time, makes everyday driving a pleasure.
With its 2.0-litre EcoBoost engine, the Focus ST delivers exhilarating power. This power is perfectly balanced by the precision control of new sports steering and enhanced Torque Vectoring Control, for exceptional grip when cornering. To add to the excitement, a specially tuned sound symposer intensifies the engine note in the cabin.
One glance at the new Focus ST and you’ll be struck by its aggressive, powerful, low-riding looks. The interior is equally bold and distinctive, with sports-influenced design, including figure-hugging Recaro sports seats and styling that’s exclusive to the ST range.
Thanks to cutting edge, performance-enhancing features, the new Focus ST can deliver thrills on request. But this car is as sophisticated as it is exhilarating. Advanced technology keeps you connected to the world outside the cabin and makes everyday driving feel refined and comfortable. Discover some of the highlights of the unique Focus ST experience.
ENJOY THE MUSIC OF A TRUE PERFORMANCE ENGINE... From your position in the driver’s seat, you can fully enjoy the thrilling sound of the Focus ST’s engine. That’s because it has a specially tuned sound symposer, which increases the sound you hear in the cabin when you accelerate hard. The sound level is controlled so you’ll hear a sporty engine noise when you put your foot down, but enjoy a quiet cabin the rest of the time.
NEW STEERING FOR PERFECT HAND POSITIONING... When you’re taking a sharp corner, the Focus ST’s new ‘Short-arm’
steering system avoids the need to cross your hands. That’s because, once you steer more than 10º offcentre, the car’s wheels turn at a progressively greater angle. You can even keep your hands perfectly positioned as you take hairpin bends. To further improve the precision of the steering, the amount of turns from lock to lock has also been reduced from 2.5 to just 1.8. Extra gauges to monitor engine performance The Focus ST has a cluster of three additional gauges at the top of the instrument panel. They enable you to monitor the engine more precisely, showing the Turbo boost up to 1.8 Bar, the oil temperature and oil pressure.

NEW FORD SYNC. ADVANCED HANDS-FREE TECHNOLOGY... With Ford SYNC voice control, you can control your music and make and take calls on your mobile, using simple, direct voice commands. SYNC will even read out loud the text messages sent to your mobile. Which means you can focus all your attention on just… driving. In addition SYNC is fitted with Emergency Assistance as standard. In the unlikely event of an accident, this technology is triggered by airbags and can use your mobile to call the emergency services for you. Emergency Assistance won ‘Best Mobile Innovation for Automotive Transport or Utilities’ at the 2012 Global Mobile Awards. NEVER MISS ANOTHER TRAFFIC SIGN Innovative Traffic Sign Recognition technology identifies traffic signs and then displays them on the instrument panel. It even flashes when you’re over the speed limit, helping you drive legally and safely. (Part of the Driver Assistance Pack) THREE-MODE ESC. THERE IF EVER YOU NEED IT... When switched fully on, Electronic Stability Control (ESC) constantly
monitors your vehicle’s progress. It senses any deviations from your chosen driving line, such as if you start to skid, and automatically corrects your road position, helping you maintain control of the car. With the Focus ST, you’ve two other options. Firstly, you can choose Sport Mode. A reduced form of ESC, this is designed to allow experienced performance drivers to ‘drift’ the car through corners on track days. Secondly, you can choose to turn the ESC fully off – for accomplished drivers only.
TWO ADVANCED SYSTEMS DESIGNED TO KEEP YOU SAFER... First, if you begin to drift out of lane, Lane Departure Warrning alerts you by vibrating your steering wheel and showing a visual warning on your driver information display. (You can set the vibration to one of three levels of sensitivity.) Then, if you're slow to react or don’t respond, Lane Keeping Aid will help guide you safely back into the correct lane. (Part of the Driver Assistance Pack) DRIVER ALERT WARNS YOU WHEN YOU’RE GETTING TIRED... Driver Alert constantly monitors your driving behaviour and is designed to detect any changes
caused by fatigue. If you’re getting tired, a warning icon appears in the display, suggesting it’s time to take a break. (Part of the Driver Assistance Pack)
AUTO HIGH BEAM. HELPING YOU SEE, WITHOUT BLINDING OTHERS... An invaluable night-driving aid, Auti High Beam temporarily dips your headlights when it detects oncoming traffic or a vehicle ahead, stopping you dazzling other drivers. It then automatically reverts back to high beam, giving you maximum visibility. (Part of the Driver Assistance Pack)
TECHNOLOGY THAT ALERTS YOU TO CARS YOU CAN’T SEE... The Blind Spot Information System uses radar sensors to see vehicles that may be hidden in your blind spot, on either side of your car. It then alerts you with an orange light, clearly displayed in the side door mirrors. (Part of the Driver Assistance Pack)

The Education Journey
The new school year is upon us once again and we at The Hype have put together an education feature spanning everything from choosing the right nursery or child minder for the tiniest tots right through to further education. It’s an educational spectrum that everyone has to go through and whether you have already made your decisions or you are still exploring your options, read on to find out a little more about what is available to you.
Starting at the youngest end of the spectrum, choosing a nursery for your precious bundle of joy is a huge decision. This is your child’s first taste of the educational system and can help structure the way that they approach the next step into ‘big school’. This is normally be the first time that your child interacts with other kids without you being there and it is a great way to prepare for school. Nurseries come in many shapes and sizes, from ones that are attached to schools to community centre and converted houses. Go and pay a visit to any prospective nurseries, looking out for good staffing numbers and large quantities of happy, smiling kids – always a good indication! Ask some of the other parents whilst you are there is a great way of knowing you are on the right track. When it comes to taking the next steps on the educational journey you have a few options. You may simply opt for the nearest local primary and secondary schools in your catchment area or you
may want to look a little further afield. Pick up a copy of the Information For Parents booklet from your local authority to find out more about the choices available to you, helping to secure a place in the school of your choice. You need to set the wheels in motion sooner rather than later so make your enquiries early on. Of course there is the independent sector to consider, as they pride themselves on offering all of the things parent’s value – high expectations, low class numbers, a strong work ethic, excellent discipline and outstanding results. The British independent sector is second to none in turning out highly educated and successful young people. After secondary education comes some of the biggest decisions, your child may choose to stay at the sixth form of their existing school or a separate institute, to study A-Levels. Of course there are lots of courses available at the nearby colleges, which are often more practical based courses and apprenticeships. They have lots of open days and taster events that will help you find out what’s on offer, helping you and your child make the right decisions. Read on - our education feature has lots of information on local schools & colleges, as well as a wide array of education services, giving you some useful dates for your diary - from open evenings to taster days. We also have music tutors, a specialist in Dyslexia tutoring and lots, lots more!

Telford youngsters enrol at the ‘Children’s University’ EDUCATION FEATURE
Dozens of Telford primary school pupils were given a taste of life in further education when they kicked off their summer holidays by attending a special ‘Children’s University’.
Telford College of Arts and Technology threw open the doors of its Wellington campus this week for four days of special taster sessions aimed at pupils from local primary schools. Around 50 youngsters, aged between 9 and 11, took part in the programme, which ended with a ‘graduation ceremony’ in the Telford College sports hall.
The Children’s University was made possible by a £15,000 grant from the Maxell Educational Trust, which covered the cost of laying on all the sessions, as well as transport for the children. Among the schools which took part were John Randall and St Mary’s Catholic school, both from Madeley, plus Short Wood primary in Wellington, and Windmill primary in Brookside. Liz Bekker, part of the team which co-ordinated the programme, said: “The youngsters had a fantastic time sampling some of the facilities which we have on offer here at Telford College. In the art and media section, they were able to try their hands at stop-motion film production and photography, as well as creating models, and designing and printing T-shirts.”
Maxell hands over £15,000 to Telford College for the Children’s University. Pictured are Maxell education trustee Ken Pattinson, TCAT chairman of governors Rick Tyrer, and Maxell trustee Mike Lowe, with students Kiera Shaw, Rebecca Peters, Janelle Arthur, and Madlyn Debrah.
“In the engineering department they were given the chance to make their own dinosaurs, as well as programming table-top robotic arms, writing computer programmes and building printed circuit boards. After spending time in our hair and beauty salon, The Retreat, they staged a fashion show which they choreographed themselves, as well as doing all the hair and make-up. And in the sports department, the youngsters had a chance to try all sorts of different activities, as well as learning about sports nutrition.” She added: “The intention was to give these children the chance to formulate some early ideas of the sort of things they might like to do in the future – things they enjoy, and things they are good at”. “It was lovely to see so many smiling faces, and we were very pleased to also see many returning youngsters who were back for more after attending a ‘taster’ day we held earlier in the year.”
Ian Pattinson, European HR Manager at Maxell who attended the graduation ceremony, told the college that the activities he had seen had ‘exceeded his expectations’. EDUCATION FEATURE
Shrewsbury Sixth Form College There is a buzz of excitement at Shrewsbury Sixth Form College as staff students are celebrating a super set of A Level results with 20% of the students gaining A*-A grades, 45% A*-B grades and an overall pass rate of 98%. For the first time in the college’s 35 year history over 700 students were sitting A level examinations in 45 subjects equating to 2135 entries making the college the biggest A level centre in the county.
Martin Ward, Principal comments ‘A level results are so important for students in terms of their progression to University or employment. The pass rate is an impressive 98% with significantly high proportions of higher grades with A*-B grades at 45% and A*-C grades at 73%. Results at A level and AS level show a pleasing improvement which benefits students from all over the county and significant numbers from even further afield. To achieve such consistency whilst providing such a range of choice to such a large number of students is a credit to the college.”
Underlying the headline rate there are many individual success stories. The students who were offered places at Oxford or Cambridge Universities or Medicine/ Dentistry/Veterinary courses have achieved the grades required; good grades have been achieved by our international students with all the A2 students gaining A*-C grades and Jasmine Fan gaining three AS grades all at A grade in Economics, German and Maths. 60 A level students gained 3 grades of A or A*. For the second year the college has entered students for level 3 BTEC courses. 131 entries were made in BTEC Applied Science, Business, ICT and Sport and a
fantastic 62% of all entries were at Distinction level. These qualifications have a high academic content and also prepare students for the world of employment.
Whilst this time of year at Shrewsbury Sixth Form College finds us congratulating and saying a fond farewell to our leavers as they head of to higher education or employment and preparing to meet our new students at enrolment, we also take time to reflect over the past year which has been very varied! Successes range from participation in a model United Nations weekend and a week-long World War 1 art project involving students from SSFC, Germany and France which was displayed in Shrewsbury Museum and Art Gallery; a wealth of curriculum visits from law courts to New York City, three Engineering Education Scheme teams, a celebrating achievement evening, supporting the High Sheriff of Shropshire’s Legal Service, two musical concerts and a production of Cabaret. All this alongside watching an eclipse, celebrating diversity and difference at our Diversity Day, congratulating Hazel Rogers as she was hailed Shropshire’s Poet Laureate, Gap, HE and Careers fairs and an extensive display of students creative work from Graphics, Product Design, Fine Art, Food, Photography, Engineering, Film and Media Studies at The Show.
Shrewsbury Sixth Form College is Shropshire’s leading sixth form college offering over 45 subjects in A levels and BTEC. We consistently appear in the top 20 of sixth form colleges across the country and we offer students a unique twin campus and town centre experience.

NEW HOMES FEATURE
Work starts on building 45 new homes in St George’s Court, Telford
Bromford’s in-house construction team has begun work on a new large-scale development of two, three and four-bedroom homes as well as two bungalows in St George’s Court, Telford.
18 of the properties will be available on a shared ownership basis offering local residents the opportunity to get on the housing ladder with a lower deposit as part-buy, part rent. The 45-home development will neighbour award-winning Priors Leap, Bromford’s first outright private-sale scheme in Telford. Site manager, Pete Hamon, who was awarded the much coveted regional award by the National House Building Council for the Priors Leap development in 2012 said: “It’s exciting to start work at St George’s Court. We are aiming for the show home to be ready for people to view next month.”
The site is ideally located within close proximity of Telford town centre and the new Southwater leisure complex with its cinema, bars, restaurants and ten-pin bowling facilities. The train station is in walking distance and there are good links to the M54. Alan Bradley of Bromford Homes said: “Shared ownership offers a route into housing for those with a limited budget. Many people aren’t aware of it and think that if they don’t have savings or borrowing power, their only option is to rent. What many are delighted to discover - once they have stumbled across shared
ownership - is that it can, in fact, be cheaper than renting and will provide them with a home they own. “In the last year, we sold more shared ownership homes than forecast so we hope that’s a sign that people are becoming more aware of the opportunities shared ownership offers.”
Shared ownership offers the chance to buy a share in a brand new leasehold property on a part buy/part rent basis and pay a subsidised rent on the part not owned. People can purchase between 25 and 75 per cent of a new home and then buy more as and when they can afford to.
Alan concluded: “Shared ownership is an ideal option for young buyers or for people who might be coming out of family breakdowns, for example, a single parent with children.” As well as the shared ownership option, some affordable rent homes will be available at St George’s for anyone not looking to buy.

Get That Extra Quality From Bovis Homes At Telford NEW HOME FEATURE
Buyers in Telford will find out that not all house builders consider features like integrated kitchen appliances and built-in bedroom wardrobes to be ‘extras’ if they visit a new development taking shape now in the town. In Bovis Homes properties those items are very much standard and included in the price, part of their excellent all-inclusive specification, which is available now at Oakford Grange. With a brand new show home recently opening its doors at the popular development off Sommerfeld Road, home seekers can come and have a look for themselves at the quality finish you get from the national home builder, who have been helping to create new communities across England and Wales for more than 125 years.
You can visit the four bedroom Canterbury between 10.00am and 5.00pm, Thursday to Monday, and while there talk to the sales team and find out how much more you can get for your money with a Bovis Home.
“This lovely house type has a number of exciting features to interest prospective buyers and shows the quality of family home that will be available at Oakford Grange,” said Regional Marketing Manager Carina Wilde. “There is also so much included in the price that many other house builders would call extras, like a lovely fitted kitchen with integrated appliances like hob, cooker, dishwasher and fridge freezer.”
“Visitors will find that there’s a real sense of space in the Canterbury. The open plan kitchen and dining room has French doors that lead out to the garden and the main bedroom includes an en suite and built-in wardrobes. “This showcases the high quality of homes that will be available at Oakford Grange, with prices currently starting at £163,995 for a three bedroom home and £184,995 for the four beds, although these are obviously subject to change.”
To help buyers in securing their new home at Oakford Grange, there are a variety of purchase assistance schemes available. For instance, there’s Help to Buy, which has been seen thousands of buyers get on or move up the ladder as a Government equity loan of 20% of the price means the buyer needs just a 5% deposit and 75% mortgage. Then there’s Home Exchange, where Bovis Homes could buy your old house and help take some of the stress, cost and time out of moving. Autumn Beauty Tips & Trends
Autumn Skin You Will Fall For Ditch the soap – It leaves your skin dry so switch to a soap-free hydrating cleanser when Autumn comes. Exfoliate with an oil-based scrub, start the new season off with a full-body exfoliation treatment. Oil-based scrubs are brill because they hydrate too. Creams provide a stronger oily barrier, helping to reduce water loss from the outer layer of skin and hydrating it all at the same time. Hands often get neglected meaning they become dry and cracked during Autumn so give them a head start by moisturizing now to ensure soft, supple hands right through the cold season and don’t forget to protect your lips to prevent dryness and cracking - lip balms are perfect for this.
Natural Brows Full brows are more flattering so don’t go over the top with the tweezers. Get rid of strays where necessary and then fill in brows with a pencil one shade lighter than your natural brow colour. This gives a softer, natural look. Avoid using your own shade or darker as this can look harsh. Smooth Hair The Safe Way Okay, so you don’t want to shell out £100’s for a salon straightening treatment. The Good news is you can get frizz-free locks at home. New treatments work like the salon service, using keratin to temporarily fill in holes in the hair shaft. Shampoo or spritz on the formula, dry your hair and then seal in sleekness by flat-ironing – this is the key to locking in the lusciousness. The result is smooth hair for up to 30 days –
Whoop! Try Organix Brazilian Keratin Therapy 30-Day Smoothing Treatment available from www.feelunique.com - £12.99.
Mineral Make-Over If you’ve not already been tempted by mineral makeup, now might be the time to get in on the trend. The latest mineral products boast ingredients that are kind to your skin, like soybean extract and seaweed, in addition they are free of preservatives, synthetics, and artificial oils. Two top picks are: Makeup pro by Bobbi Brown - Their first mineral product - Skin Foundation Mineral Makeup SPF 15 available from www.bobbibrown.co.uk at £29.00 and the new pressed mineral eye shadow from Bare Minerals available from www.bareminerals.co.uk
The Bob Is Back – And it Looks Good! Need a new hair style? Consider the bob, yes it’s back and it’s the hottest chop around. The bob suits most face shape’s, it can be styled straight or wavy and still look great! For the bang on trend look go short, stopping at the jawline or try the slightly longer, below-the-chin option – recently seen on Emily Clarke (Game of Thrones – Daenerys). Seeing Red We have recently seen some big names experimenting with going red: Red hair warms up all skin tones and there are loads of at-home foam hair colours available to choose from. If you’re fair then Copper tones are for you, Auburn is ideal for olive skin and for dark skin tones try Mahogany.
