e Review THE COACH HOUSE INN NORBURY e idyllic village of Norbury is tucked away in the undulating south Shropshire hills. At it’s centre is the Coach House, opposite a charming church and an ancient yew tree. is unique country inn has been providing travellers with hospitality for over 300 years. e ancient buildings interiors now have modern touches but thankfully retains its rustic charm. Having heard excellent things about this restaurant, my wife and I were eagerly looking forward to an evening of sampling some award winning food for ourselves. We were made to feel very welcome by the affable restaurant manager Ben. He showed us to our table for the evening, talked us knowledgably through the menus and took our drinks order. We enjoyed our drinks whilst we tried to make a decision between some impressive dishes. Apparently the menu is updated once a month to make the most of the best available local produce which I think is a great idea and something more restaurants should consider doing.
“
e owners Sean & Lexi Morris, along with their exceptional team have created a fantastic restaurant, which also boasts seven beautiful rooms for those visitors that would like to stay and make a night of it. We cannot recommend the Coach House highly enough.

10 Eating Out
To start Ashleigh ordered the beef tartare, chilli, ginger sesame, coriander and garlic and I opted for the beetroot terrine, white pepper, shallot and nasturtium. Before the starters arrived we were given a hummus and heritage carrot canapé, an amuse bouche of tempura courgette and finally house baked sourdough bread & butter. is mouth watering start to the evening offered an insight into the incredible attention to detail evident in the kitchen. Our starters arrived quickly and the presentation was impeccable. Ashleigh was very impressed; her dish worked perfectly and was bursting with flavour. e local beef fillet was of the very highest quality. My heritage beetroot terrine was simply brilliant, with an interesting burst of sweetness which was complimented well by the other elements of the dish. e chef seems to have perfected the art of balance, ensuring each ingredient does not over power the others - a terrific starter. I decided to opt for the BBQ lamb rump for the main course with pickled courgette, aubergine, garlic and a lamb sauce. Ashleigh had Beef Fillet, with triple cooked

chips, little wood batch carrot and beef sauce. ey were nothing short of epic – the beef fillet was really juicy and tender, and the triple cooked chips were immense. e lamb was astounding; flavoursome, with a beautiful crispy outer edging which made this one of my all-time favourites. e other ingredients complimented the dish well and left one with a comfortably satisfied glow. Chocolate is always a winner for us and the 70% chocolate delice instantly grabbed Ashleigh’s attention – with cherry and almond it was right up her street. I opted for the summer berry tart; a crème patisserie with cassis steeped red currant. ey were glorious. e tart was rich, luxurious and intense, with the robust flavour of the redcurrants – it was sublime. e dhocolate delice was everything Ashleigh had imagined and more; indulgent and rich. It was a perfect way to bring the evening to a close. Overall we had a fabulous experience at the Coach House Norbury. Head chef Harry Bullock may only be 22 years old but cooks with incredible skill & sophistication. His complex flavours are deftly balanced and his presentation is stunning. Its no wonder that he was awarded 2 AA rosettes on his first ever inspection and has maintained them since. He is definitely one to watch in the near future. e owners Sean & Lexi Morris, along with their exceptional team have created a fantastic restaurant, which also boasts seven beautiful rooms for those visitors that would like to stay and make a night of it. Educating Our Regional Youth Ironworks Reach Record Number of School & Youth Trips Proving to be a truly monumental year for us, having nearly reached 200 group trips and seen even greater success through our annual Oswestry Colour Run, we have now also officially hit a new record for the number of school trips and visits taken to the Centre. We are proud to announce that 2019 has already seen over 43 schools and youth groups enter the Ironworks doors, with plenty more set to visit throughout the rest of the coming months!
As part of our School Partnership Programme, we aim to reach out to as many regional and national schools and youth groups as possible to visit our site and enjoy a truly unique educational experience. Encompassing the great outdoors, creativity and everything else that we do here at the Centre, our school and youth trips are completely FREE of charge and aim to engage each and every child with something a little bit different.
We believe that outdoor education and activities are exceptionally important when it comes to broadening minds and allowing children to freely, and safely, explore the outside world. Our large area of parklands, as well as our Metal Safari Park, offer the perfect platform for young children to navigate through natural life whilst learning a little bit about metalwork and the animals that inspired many of our outdoor creations. Seasonal children’s activities are also available which involve adventuring across the grounds in search of clues to unlock special prizes.
Additionally, we also offer craft workshops and demonstrations alongside our resident artisans which include an in-house silversmith, blacksmith, potter, stained-glass artist, airbrush specialist and dedicated children’s crafter. The activities here at the Ironworks have been specially designed to encourage
Upton Westlea Primary School
children to access and enjoy all that our grounds and facilities have to offer and should educate and provide enjoyment for children from all backgrounds, genders, abilities, and ages.
We have received excellent feedback from many schools and youth groups who have visited us in the past, with so many returning to enjoy more of everything that we have to offer here – so why not get your school involved too? Contact us today to find out more!
All our school trips and outings are completely FREE however it would be lovely and gratefully received if you chose to leave a donation for Hope House Children’s Hospice. Every cent that goes to Hope House will help them to continue doing their amazing work throughout our region. All attending children receive refreshments and a complimentary ice-cream on departure, whilst teachers and chaperones receive complimentary hot drinks.

Visit
Ellesmere... Ellesmere in Shropshire is a vibrant market town with lots of half-timbered and Georgian buildings lining its medieval streets. e magnificent glacial Mere turned out to be the ideal place for a pretty town with everything you could need, including some rest and relaxation. You can fish, go boating or hire a bicycle to see the local wildlife, whilst taking in the beautiful scenery. Ellesmere attracts lots of visitors every year, its picturesque meres draw many of them in but there are lots of other attractions to enjoy. You can take a stroll around the formal gardens, or take off on a woodland walk with art and sculpture trails. The wildlife and Heron Watch is synonymous with Ellesmere so you can enjoy nature from the comfort of the indoor viewing area.
The town is filled with independent shops like Ismay’s, salons - such as Pure Beauty or Orthobionomy offering unique body therapies, boutiques, cafes, coffee bars, pubs, restaurants, and of course the local craft market. There are a number of places to stay in Ellesmere like the Ellesmere Hotel.
It's hard to imagine that this pretty little town in the heart of Shropshire was actually the catalyst for one of the greatest canal networks in the country and subsequent feats of engineering that challenged the great Thomas Telford but it's true. Ellesmere is a lovely town and well worth a visit this autumn.

Is your child
Worried
about starting ‘Big School?’ Former primary teacher Catherine Lynch of PlanBee is here to help you through this difficult transition... Moving into a new classroom can be scary and take a bit of getting used to for even the most confident child. For lots of children, moving into Reception will be their first time in a school environment. But whether they are moving from a private nursery, from being at home full-time or being in a nursery class attached to a school, they will have to get used to new adults, peers, routines, expectations and the large school setting. And that’s a big ask for a little one.
Hopefully, the school you’ve chosen for your child will have carried out a home visit. These are a great opportunity for the adults working with the Reception children, the children themselves and their parents to get to know one another in an environment where the child is more likely to feel confident.
A transition visit may also have taken place. First, the Reception teacher visits the child in their current nursery setting and meets their current keyworker. Then the new Reception children visit their new classroom for a few hours. Both occasions give the children and staff the opportunity to learn about each
other. The visit to the Reception class lets the children learn where their coat peg is, where the toilets are, what toys there are and who is in their class.
If your child isn’t starting in Reception until September 2020, you will have plenty of time to liaise with the school to set up either a home or transition visit. But if ‘big school’ is looming this September, what can you do to help your child copy positively with this educational rite of passage?
1 2 3
“Be positive”
The Joy of missing out... Education
“Listen to your child and reassure them”
Be positive about this transition; your child will pick up on your worries, so adopting an upbeat attitude to this exciting stage in their life is key. Listen to your child, reassure them and try to understand what lies at the heart of their worry. Reassure them that you will support them, and don’t try to dismiss their concerns as unimportant or unfounded. Arrange playdates with other children that will be in their class; lots of parents use social media to create these connections.
By half-term, your little one should be starting to settle and enjoying the challenges of this new stage in their life. Good luck!
Catherine Lynch is a former primary school teacher, now working for lesson-planning and resources experts PlanBee.

There are lots of activities that you can do as a family during the autumn season, and of course we have some of the biggest events of the year like Harvest Festival, Halloween and Bonfire Night. There are loads of things to do that cost very little or are even free. Why not try harvesting some Apples, at one of Shropshire’s orchards. Dudmaston and Attingham Park both have a variety of apples growing in the orchards, and during October, you can see them harvest them to make juice to sell in the shops. The Shropshire Apple Trust in Ironbridge Gorge hold ‘Apple Day’ - this year on 12th October. A celebration of everything ‘appley’. Go along to an organised Bonfire & Fireworks display, there are lots across Shropshire including Oswestry, Donnington, Newport, Weston Park, Albrighton, Shifnal and even West Midlands Safari Park. Carving a pumpkin is one of my favourite autumn things to do, it’s great fun and you can make your own designs up as you go along and get creative. The best bit though is making home pumpkin soup or even a pumpkin pie with the flesh you scoop out - it’s delicious!

Three R’s
‘Reduce, Reuse & Recycle’ Call for primary school National Curriculum to include climate change... After the government announced that greenhouse gas emissions in the UK will be cut to almost zero by 2050, under the terms of a new government plan to tackle climate change, a leading education company made up of former school teachers has said the subject should be taught from the start of primary school.
Currently, teaching climate change is restricted to chemistry and geography in key stages 3 and 4 when children are aged 11-14, but leading education resources company PlanBee has called for children to be taught the subject from the start of their school careers.
‘It is the single biggest issue affecting children's futures,’ said PlanBee’s Oli Ryan, a former primary school teacher. ‘It looms over everything else, and we have a responsibility to prepare children from a young age as best we can.’ With this in mind, PlanBee has developed an entire primary school curriculum focusing on climate change and what children can do about it, including ‘the new Three Rs’: reduce, reuse, recycle.
Oli said: ‘We owe to children to act now, in every aspect of their lives – and especially in schools.
‘Here at PlanBee, we’ve been scratching our heads for some time, thinking about how we can support primary teachers by creating resources to help address these issues and prepare children for the future. We, like all teachers, want them to grow up to be confident, safe, socially responsible and capable of protecting our fragile planet.’
He said felt that while children shouldn’t be shielded from the problems they will grow to inherit as adults, they shouldn’t be left feeling anxious and helpless about them, either.
e Plan Bee curriculum covers seven key climate change topics: • Ethical trading • Fulfilled lives • Ecosystems We Do Not • Climate change Inherit the Earth • Water scarcity • Biodiversity from Our Ancestors; • Finite planet We Borrow It from The themes are explored in an ageOur Children... appropriate fashion, ensuring not only that children can develop a realistic understanding of both the problems they and others inheriting the planet face, but develop a clear idea of what they can do about it.
In this curriculum, the new three 'Rs' are Reduce, Reuse, Recycle. Children are tasked with finding ways to reduce waste by working together to reduce what is sent to landfill, both at school and at home.
The lessons also challenge children to take action to help Britain's bee population survive and thrive at school and at home. In ‘Children know best!’, they generate their own ideas for ways in which they can teach adults to make more eco-friendly decisions in their daily lives.
‘These ideas will help them to make a real difference, to have a positive impact, improving the lives of others around the world and to protect the planet, too,’ said Oli.
He said that while children, understanding the urgency better than us, are now taking it upon themselves to save the planet, schools owe it to them to prepare them for the future in an uncertain world, and make positive changes.

The Joy of missing out... Education
‘We have let children down - now they are taking it upon themselves to do something. But, there is still time for us to help them take action on climate change, by providing world-class education on climate change, starting in primary schools.’

Oli said: ‘Teaching children about issues directly related to climate change should go hand in hand with learning about ethical trading, and the harm caused by unchecked, rampant consumerism.

LET’S EAT. Spicy Pumpkin Soup is sweet and spicy pumpkin soup is an Autumn classic and perfect if you're making soup for the first time. It works really well with the sweet potato too. Delicious!
Y
ou will love this simple, delightfully warming spicy pumpkin soup recipe - perfect for autumn evenings. Serve with a swirl of cream and warm crusty bread.
Firstly preheat the oven to 190C/gas mark 5. Scoop out the pumpkin flesh with a big spoon, and peal the sweet potato. Next chop the pumpkin and sweet potato into cubes about an inch in size. Peel the garlic and slice the red peppers and pop them all together on a roasting tray, with a drizzle of olive oil. Place in the oven and roast for 30-40 minutes, until soft. Remove from the oven and allow them to cool.
Once cooled, place the pumpkin, sweet potato garlic and peppers into a blender with the water, milk and diced chilli, and blend until smooth in texture. Pour into a saucepan and heat until piping hot and season to taste with some salt and pepper. For a slightly more indulgent treat swap the milk for cream.
If you prefer a sweeter flavour, try roasting the pumpkin and sweet potato until they are slightly caramelised or if you fancy some extra flavour you can try adding some extra herbs, which can really enhance this simple dish- my favourite is coriander but you could add some cumin, oregano or even fennel seeds!
For a vegan option just replace the milk with vegetable stock or coconut milk, both of which will create a completely different flavour to try.
e Ingredients For the soup... 1/2 medium pumkin or 1/2 butternut squash 1 large sweet potato 2 cloves of garlic 1/2 red pepper 375 ml of water 250 ml full fat milk OR 250ml single cream 1 red chilli Olive oil Salt and pepper for seasoning
To serve Fresh crusty bread or Garlic croutons Fresh coriander or basil
Interesting Pumpkin Fact:
Pumpkins contain carotenoids, which function as antioxidants. These compounds are linked to lower risks of stomach, throat, pancreas and breast cancers.
Serve with some tasty garlic croutons or a few slices of fresh crusty bread and butter.

Kaiser Chiefs Birmingham Tour Date In January 2020 Fresh from their triumphant homecoming gig at Leeds Elland Road, Kaiser Chiefs have announced a date in Birmingham with very special guests Razorlight.
K
aiser Chiefs announced a UK arena tour, with very special guests Razorlight, which includes a date at Arena Birmingham on Saturday 25 January 2020. Tickets are available from www.theticketfactory.com. e band also announced the release of anthemic new single ‘People Know How To Love One Another’, the lead single from the Kaiser Chiefs’ forthcoming new album Duck and follows hot on the heels of Record Collection, which gave fans their first taste of the new album. Duck, which was released on July 26th through Polydor, is the sound of one of the most successful British guitar bands of the millennium reclaiming the creative swagger that underpins their strongest work. “It’s undeniably fantastic and undeniably Kaiser Chiefs,” says frontman Ricky Wilson. ‘People Know How To Love One Another’ is an uplifting mix of radiant melodies and Northern Soul-style grooves. Its message of positivity came from guitarist Whitey. “It’s the antithesis of Every Day I Love You Less And Less,” says Wilson. “e title is a statement - there’s no judgement or ‘this is how you should live your life’, no bravado, it’s just, ‘this is how it is.’ It reminded me of our first record.” Bassist Simon Rix thinks the world in 2019 needs a song with such a declaration of human warmth. “It’s a really important song and a great message for Brexit Britain.”
People Know How To Love One Another was produced by Ben H. Allen, who previously collaborated with the band on 2014’s number one album Education, Education, Education & War and Andrew Wells who’s recent work includes US number ones with Fall Out Boy and Bebe Rexha. Other production collaborators on Duck include Iain Archer (Liam Gallagher, James Bay) with additional mixing by Mark “Spike” Stent (U2, Ed Sheeran, Arcade Fire) who worked with Kaiser Chiefs on defining single Everyday I Love You Less and Less. It’s a record that harks back to the everyday explorations of their breakthrough early albums. “We wanted to do something that had a Kaiser Chiefs DNA but still try and do something different” says bassist Simon Rix. “It has the right spirit.” Fifteen years into their career, the band, completed by Andrew “Whitey” White (guitar), Peanut (keyboards) and Vijay Mistry (drums), are hitting new artistic peaks. “It’s more exciting than it’s ever been,” says Wilson. “Every time there’s a big obstacle, it just gets blown away in the wind like a dandelion. We’re still selling out arenas but under the radar. We can make albums forever.” https://www.kaiserchiefs.com/ https://twitter.com/KaiserChiefs https://www.facebook.com/kaiserchiefs https://www.instagram.com/kaiserchiefs/

before Christmas?
Are you planning a project As the nights are starting to draw in, thoughts are tentatively moving towards Autumn and dare I say it... Christmas! This time of year is very much a time for taking some tips from Scandinavia and making time to cosy up your home, hunkering down, and adding interest and warmth with lots of lovely textures and lighting. September is also the perfect time to start thinking about what plans you may have to redecorate any rooms in your home before Christmas. Taking time to plan a room, thinking carefully about what items of furniture etc you plan to keep, how you use the room, and how you want the room to feel will make such a difference to the end result, and most likely, it will save you money in expensive mistakes too. Creating a mood board for your room is a great way to get your ideas together, using an app such a Pinterest, or tearing sheets out of magazines and putting them on a pin board to see them all together. If you’re stuck with where to start, Jo from With Love Interiors can provide a full mood board service for you. She will meet with you, taking the time to talk through all the details of the room, and then create a board based on your requirements. You will also be provided with a comprehensive
‘shopping list’ so you are able to take the mood board and create the room of your dreams. With Love Interiors is also able to help you with any window dressings you might be thinking of to keep the warmth in on the cold winter nights. Supplying and fitting a full range of bespoke curtains and blinds, Jo offers an ‘at home’ service, meaning she will visit your home bringing a selection of pattern books based on your initial chat when you get in touch to book. She will then offer advice on the most suitable dressing for each window, and guide you in choosing fabrics that compliment the rest of your room decor. With fabrics from Harlequin, Scion, Prestigious Textiles, Clarke and Clarke, Romo and Villa Nova, you’re sure to find something that will appeal to you; however Jo is also able to source fabrics from alternative suppliers if required. When your made-to-measure furnishings are ready, your tracks, poles, or blinds will be fitted to perfection, and your curtains will be hung and dressed beautifully. In order to prepare all of your bespoke items and fit them before the big day, orders for pre Christmas fitting are cut off at the beginning of November. This means now is the best time to get in touch to book your appointment, giving plenty of time to choose the perfect finishing touches for your room.

AUTUMN TRENDS...
As summer draws to a close we say goodbye to the bright colours ans shorts and say hello to luxurious plumage, sumptuous leather and sparkling sequinsthat’s right, it’s Autumn!
Puffy shoulders with a girly touch will be appearing during AW19, bringing a more feminine feel to tailoring. A supersized bag is a must if the AW catwalk shows are anything to go by and then there’s the return of supple leather, and leather trousers in particular, which brings in an element of quiet luxury.
Colour trends include black, browns, yellows and reds - classic autumn shades, but more unusually there are also some bright colours filtering their way into the autumn fashion scene - including brightly coloured court shoes, which are really on trend.
TIME TO SHINE...
Autumn means glamourous luxury, a dash of sparkle is in store for the party season with draped dresses, sparkling fringing and even sequined trousers. My favourite are the silver sequin wide leg trousers from Dorothy Perkins for £45.

How Often Do You ‘Do It’? ere’s no greater feeling than sinking into crisp, fresh sheets at the end of the day, but are Brits changing their bed sheets as often as they should?
WARNING: e results might make you itch!
We’ve carried out our own research - asking our team and our Instagram followers - to gain a little insight into the bed sheet changing habits of the nation. We also sought the advice of a bed linen expert, Sean Lyndon Cook, A.T.I, H.N.D, the founder of The Lyndon Company, to get clarity on how often we really should be changing our sheets.
Dreams vs Reality
While 62% of our poll would ideally be swapping out their bedding once a week; with life, work, family, pets and partners getting in the way of our domestic nirvana, only 45% are achieving this goal.
You Can Rest Easy
The good news is that The Good Housekeeping Institute says that your sheets should be changed at least once every two weeks. So, 81% of our poll can rest easy, in their clean sheets.

Book Worms... 'Another Look at Life': Poignant, Uplifting Memoir Celebrates One Woman’s “Joy of Living”
Author: Maureen Wingham
Maureen Wingham’s ‘Another Look at Life’ takes readers on a fascinating, whirlwind tour through the author’s life – from her upbringing during WWII, to huge success in the world of PR and media representation, and her chaotic, tumultuous relationship with a professional singer. It’s a life led by a love of the arts, animals and boundless optimism – and it’s unlike any other book on the shelves.
If there’s one word you could never use to describe Maureen Wingham’s life, it would be “mundane”. Wingham is proof that life really is for living and, in her new memoir, she showcases exactly how every drop has been squeezed out of her experiences.
‘Another Look at Life’ is both hugely inspirational and poignant, as readers travel alongside Wingham through her early hopes and dreams, successful business career and a personal life that’s anything but run-of-the-mill.
Synopsis:
Maureen Wingham’s life has been a cascading whirl of opportunities, triumphs and tragedies that have tested her in ways the young Maureen, brought up during World War II, could never have envisaged.
She recounts her pathways through a professional life in advertising and PR consultancy, focusing on fashion clients and travel media representation; relinquishing her theatrical ambitions; severing a business partnership and plunging into the music business.
You will learn how a chance meeting with a singer led to a fractious relationship and separation, and how this directly resulted in her first marriage, motherhood and subsequent divorce. Later, following an unexpected visit from the singer they were reunited – although he still had a somewhat chaotic lifestyle including brushes with the law and frequent disappearances. These would continue, as did the relationship, until his final illness.
Always optimistic, always inspired by dance, with a deep love of animals and of family, Maureen set forth her plans to retire to Spain, but even this had unexpected consequences with a sudden rapprochement with her business partner after 40 years.

Another Look at Life will inspire and delight you as it celebrates one woman’s tenacity and her joy of living.
“I want to show people that life is a non-stop navigation exercise,” explains the author. “It’s a collection of experiences that jump between good, bad, unforgettable, tragic and amazing. But, throughout it all, you have to find a common theme of happiness and learning. This is what has made my life an incredibly joyous journey.” Continuing, “It’s a chance for readers to see things from another’s perspective, and see their own successes and defeats in a new light. But, putting the serious stuff aside for a minute, it’s also a very entertaining story that may read to some like a movie!” With the volume’s demand increasing, interested readers are urged to secure their copies without delay.

Something Old...
You will probably have heard the saying “something old, something new, something borrowed and something blue, a sixpence in your shoe” - four ojects to bring good luck, and a sixpence to bring prosperity.
FLORAL CROWN... e bridal floral crown has seen a real revival over the past year or so, vintage, whimsical and bohemian inspired brides are all turning to the floral headdress. With so many shades, textures, styles and designs to choose from, you are sure to find the perfect flowers for your big day - like this pretty autumn inspired floral crown from INTERFLORA.
Why Something Old?
The ‘something old’ object was a symbol to ward off the ‘Evil Eye’ which was believed to cause infertility in the bride, and to protect any children that the new couple might have. But as well as protetion it was an object to represent continuity. For the majority of couples, it is a sentimental way of paying tribute, or involving an older relative, often in the form of jewellery or some form of family heirloom. You could even include an old poem in your ceremony! Don’t forget the sixpence in your shoe though, as we could all use a little bit of prosperity- especially after paying for a wedding!

Back to nature for new Shropshire wedding and event venue... “e venue really is perfect for those wanting to get back to nature. e relaxed and informal space is the kind of place where you can get married in your wellies, flip flops or heels - anything goes really! We love to encourage guests to add their own personal style with bespoke decorations such as bunting and colourful wildflowers. Of course, we can be on hand to assist in any way needed but generally we like to leave the personal touches to those hiring out the venue as we know everyone likes to add their own individual twist.” As well as using the ceremony site, guests can also make use of the forest school area by trying out some of the adventure activities such as archery and air rifle shooting. ere is also an off-grid campsite available for those wishing to stay overnight at the venue. Judie, who hosted her first wedding at the site earlier this year following a request from a friend, said: “Our venue isn’t an alternative to a hotel wedding or celebration. What you get here is truly unique and is for those really wishing to embrace nature and everything that comes with it.
A brand new woodland wedding and event venue has been launched in the heart of the Shropshire countryside. Located at Wrekin Forest School on Crudgington Moor Lane, Telford, the new rustic ceremony site has been created by owner Judie Ellis (pictured top right) in response to demand. Judie, a trained forest school leader and educator, has become well known across Shropshire over recent years for her innovative approach to the outdoors and teaching children and young people a range of unique skills. Now, the business owner is giving couples the opportunity to get back to nature and explore the wonders of the woodland site by hosting wedding ceremonies. e site, complete with tree-lined lawn and meadow, rustic barn, tipi, shepherds huts, bar area and fire pits is also being made available for other events including milestone birthdays, renewal of vows ceremonies and anniversary celebrations. Judie said: “We are absolutely delighted to officially announce the opening of our new wedding and event venue and we are looking forward to welcoming guests from across Shropshire and further afield. We have hosted a number of events already and I’m delighted to say, they have all proven extremely successful. We have of course been super lucky with the weather this year and when the sun shines, the forest backdrop provides the most spectacular setting for a friendly, rusticromance style wedding or other celebration.”
44
Wedding Venue
“e idea was borne after a friend of mine asked to hire the site to create a surprise wedding. At first I thought she was a bit mad but slowly I began to picture how amazing a wedding day or other celebration could be here in the woodland and that’s when we started to seriously consider transforming the site. It’s taken around 12 months to get the venue event-ready with the addition of the barn, bell tent, shepherds huts, 4 berth pig ark and all the other unique elements such as log seating and marshmallow roasting fire pit. It now looks fantastic and the celebrations we’ve had so far have been spectacular. Every single one has been very different but they’ve all had a fun, friendly and natural vibe to them which is exactly the kind of memories we are trying to create for our guests.”
Events held at Wrekin Forest School Events can accommodate up to 130 guests and there are three different packages to choose from depending on the type of celebration to be held. For full details contact Judie on 07888 851813 or visit the website www.wrekinforestschool.co.uk for more information.

EXPERT TIPS....
How to lk after coloured hair!
How to keep your hair healthy and happy after potential damage caused by colouring.
If you’ve coloured your hair at one point or another, experiencing frizzy, flat hair can be a commonplace. Anabel Kingsley, expert trichologist at Philip Kingsley, states that “hair that has been damaged from colour processing often lacks shine and looks dull and frizzy (largely due to a damaged cuticle and increased porosity). Due to loss of elasticity, it will also be less manageable and perhaps be broken and split at the ends”.
Smooth operators... Re-Moisturizing Smoothing Shampoo, £19.50 for 250ml
The Re-Moisturizing Smoothing Shampoo delivers a rich hydration boost to the hair follicles that have been damaged by colouring. With frequent use, it will “transform the hair from dry and rough to smooth and soft,” Anabel says.
Here are some of the products we suggest to revive the health of your hair, with input from Anabel Kingsley: Pomegranate and Cassie Elasticizer, £35 for 150ml
This super conditioning preshampoo treatment restores shine and bounce to the hair when used weekly. Anabel says that the Elasticizer is used to “help restore lost moisture and improve strength and elasticity” that has been lost due to colouring damage.
How to use:: “Work it into your hair with your fingertips and cover with a shower cap or towel to aid penetration. Leave the treatment on for a minimum of 20 minutes – an hour is ideal – and then shampoo and condition your hair as usual.”
Daily Damage Defense Conditioning Spray, £25 for 250ml
When the hair is damaged by colouring, tangling can become an extreme issue. The Daily Damage Defense Spray works perfectly to not only untangle locks, but protects the hair from any future damage,

re-moisturize split ends, and fixes “terrible cases of breakage, caused by overlapping previous colour,” Anabel says.
How to use: “Colouring also raises the hair’s protective outer cuticle, which can give strands a dull appearance and make the hair more prone to damage from daily styling. A raised outer cuticle also increases the likelihood that strands will interlock and tangle. To smooth the cuticle, whenever you comb through your hair, apply a conditioning, detangling spray to your mid-lengths and ends.”

3. Ensure it’s nicely decorated – some potential buyers may not be able to visualise how a room could look, and it’s important to do all you can to help them. Making sure all rooms are decorated and fully furnished will be more appealing to viewers and therefore more likely that they will put in an offer.
5 SIMPLE TIPS for adding value to your home... 5 important, simple ways to add value to your home...
Whether you’re ready to sell right now, or you have plans to move to a different property in the future, making the right choices within your home to ensure maximum value is crucial. Making the decision to sell means that you have to view your home in a different light and look at it more objectively, ensuring that you make your home as appealing and efficient as it can be.
you whilst you are still living in the home, such as a huge reduction on utility bills and spending less on heating.
Residential People have years of experience working to connect people with property, and they revolutionised the way people search for properties. Here, they discuss simple ways you can add more value to your home. 1. Make your home more energy efficient – making the right moves towards being more energy efficient can actually add £25,000 to your selling price overall. Raising your energy efficiency rating from a G or F could also give a 6% increase in the selling price. Not to mention being more energy efficient will benefit

2. Maintain the outside space – if you have huge garden or yard potential but it’s not used, this may put off potential buyers. If the space is there, invest in transforming it into a useable and attractive garden and consider installing a shed or a seating area to add value when it comes to be marketed.
4. Make the most of natural light – a home is more likely to sell if it is light, airy and bright, with lots of natural light. Consider exchanging heavy curtains for simple blinds which allow more light in, or re-paint using brighter colour choices whilst minimising bulky furniture in the room which could be blocking light. 5. Don’t underestimate visual security – this could be something as simple as adding a chain or an extra lock on the front door, ensuring all the windows have locks and keys, or installing an alarm outside the property. Visible security features will make a potential buyer feel more secure, and more likely to warm to the place.

Top 10 Tips for Buying a Puppy_Full Page Bleed New 15/08/2019 11:43 Page 1
Are you prepared for your
Puppy?
130,000 dogs go to rehoming charities each year. Paws.com's vet and pet wellbeing specialist, Dr. Steph Wenban, provides 10 tips to think about when getting a dog. Britain is a nation of pet owners and dog lovers. It was estimated last year that there were 9 million dogs in the UK and that 44% of all households own a pet. Many dog owners suggest that summer is the ideal time for getting a puppy with the longer and warmer days making it easier to exercise and housebreak your puppy. It is also a time when many families are on off from work or school so people can be at home to look after the dog. With only a few weeks of summer left, a lot of homes will be seeing this as the last chance they have to buy a dog over the sunny season.
Families often decide to purchase a dog without giving the big decision the proper thought and consideration it needs. Research from The Dogs Trust estimated that 130,000 dogs come into UK rehoming charities each year.
Dr. Steph Wenban, Paws.com's vet and pet wellbeing specialist, offers the following advice for people looking to get a puppy:
1. Does a puppy suit your life?
Similar to a baby, a puppy can be hard work! Training will take time and patience, as well as building up to leaving your puppy alone. Are you able to take some leave from work to put in the initial time to help your puppy settle? Once settled, are you able to take your dog with you to work or arrange company in the day? It is recommended that adult dogs are left alone for a maximum of 3-4 hours.
2. Can you afford a puppy?
The estimated monthly cost of owning a dog is around £95 for smaller breeds and £154 for larger breeds - which equates to around £21,000 over your dog's lifetime. Expect this amount to be higher if using services such as day care, kennels or grooming. It is also a good idea to plan in case your dog has an accident or becomes unwell - if deciding on insurance, is the level of cover enough for your needs? Or could you afford to pay for the treatment if required?
3. Choose a breed which suits your lifestyle
Be sure to research the needs of difference breeds, if they are prone to any health conditions and if there are any tests for these conditions. This will help you make the most appropriate choice of both breed and puppy.
4. Research puppies available
Do you want to get your puppy from a rescue centre or a breeder? Are there any health concerns or testing from the parents? Now is a good time to start looking around as there may need to join a waiting list.
5. Dig deeper about the puppies
Once you have selected a litter, be sure to ask lots of questions! For example, - Are there any health concerns with the puppies? - Have they been vet checked? - Have the puppies had any flea or worming treatments? - Are they well socialised? Any responsible breeder should be happy to answer all of these.
6. Arrange to visit
Call ahead and arrange a time to visit your puppy. Look at the environment, is it clean? Are the puppies socialised and playful? Pay attention to the health and smell of the puppies, look for signs of vomiting or diarrhoea. If the puppies are younger this should ideally be the first visit of a few. If the puppy is older and at an age ready to leave - consider leaving your wallet at home to avoid an impulse purchase!
7. Meet the Mother and Father
Always see the puppies together interacting and suckling with their mother - some puppy farms will go lengths to even stage a 'fake mum'. The mother should be paying an active interest in the puppies, look bright, healthy and have swollen teats full of milk. Pay attention to the personalities of the parents and ask about any health concerns. If you are unable to meet the father, you should be able to contact the owners by phone.
“Ch o the ose righ t bree d...”
8. Health records
Legally, all puppies should be microchipped by 8 weeks of age (unless you are given medical history with an exemption from a vet) - so check you have the paperwork to change this into your new details. Ask for records of your puppy having had a vet check as well as any flea / worming treatments and depending on their age, a vaccination card.
9. What is the puppy coming home with?
Ideally pups should go home with some food to avoid sudden changes in diet, a scented blanket or piece of clothing can help them find comfort in the first few nights. Some breeders will also provide 4 weeks free insurance.
10. e future
TheFeature Joy of missing out... Pet
Most breeders will hold your puppy to accommodate holidays or prior commitments, but it is a good idea to check what happens if your circumstances change. Some responsible breeders provide a contract to guarantee you can return the puppy to them if you are ever in need to rehome.

Cognitive Behavioural erapy; Can you beat obesity without changing your mindset? under eating), OCD, phobias and more. CBT has also been used within prisons to try to reduce the percentage of reconviction rates, with success.
Celebrities including Denise Welch, Rachel Riley, Jennifer Lawrence and Emma Stone have all openly discussed how CBT has helped them face their own demons, including anxiety, addictions, OCD and more.
One of the most popular tools that you can use to address negative habits and addictions, whether it’s alcohol, cigarettes, over or under eating, stress, or anxiety, is cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT). This therapy method has been around since the 1940s but has becoming increasingly popular in modern culture due to its success rates. But what is it? How does it work? Who can benefit from it? The experts at LighterLife, one of the UK’s leading weight-management companies, explains all. What is it? CBT is a highly structured treatment, with mutually set goals between Counsellor and client. Where traditional therapy can often go on for years, CBT is usually delivered within short time frames of a few months and can often bring about quick results in just an hour-long session each week. Where does CBT come from? The roots of CBT date back to the 1940s and 50s, but the work of American psychiatrist Dr Aaron Beck in the late 60s is regarded as a seminal moment for the development of modern practice.
Dr Beck encouraged his patients to detach themselves from challenging thoughts such as ‘nobody cares for me’ and see them for what they were – inner voices and not necessarily the truth. Beck told his patients to challenge the evidence for their automatic

negative thoughts (ANTs), saying: “What’s interesting about the ANTs... is that people tend to accept them at face value. And they don’t look for alternative explanations or for what evidence is behind them.”
These thoughts come from our core beliefs, we allow these to inform our decisions, regardless of whether they are helpful or relevant today.
How does it work? CBT is ultimately a range of methods and techniques to challenge crooked thinking and to develop an understanding of what is going on behind your thoughts and actions. It’s about getting to understand yourself more, to acknowledge your negative patterns and behaviours so you can stop them. This will lead to making less of the mistakes which you are making. When it comes to addiction, on the surface, you know what you’re doing isn’t going to help. When you’re an alcoholic, you can ask yourself the question “should I have a drink”, and you already know the answer, it’s a mistake you’ve already done before. CBT helps people to become more self-aware. Gaining this knowledge is vital in changing behaviours and helps to prevent unforeseen self-sabotage. Who can benefit from CBT? CBT can help anyone who suffers from a negative behaviour or thought; anxiety, stress, panic, eating disorders (both over and
Denise Welch, TV personality, actress and LighterLife Ambassador, says: “After following the LighterLife Total plan and joining my local group I realised that I’d swapped drinking too much for eating too much. My alcohol addiction had manifested into an eating addiction, and the CBT techniques used in group taught me to acknowledge my bad eating habits. From this, I was able to make more conscious decisions when picking what I wanted to eat and make better choices. I lost two stone in two months back in 2013 and have maintained ever since. I still dial into group whenever I can.” One of the biggest impacts CBT can have is on weight loss and eating addictions. Since 2004, the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) has made several recommendations that have put CBT at the forefront of various combined therapies and it is now used across the NHS to treat addiction, depression and other healthrelated issues. Unfortunately, the NHS offers little of this help to those people who are battling their weight.
Dr Matt Capehorn, general practitioner and medical director at LighterLife explains: “CBT is an ideal tool to use in weight management. It’s particularly useful in addressing the underlying emotional causes for overeating. There’s evidence that combining CBT with other interventions, such as a VLCD, increases weight loss.”
At LighterLife we provide a unique behaviour change programme that combines elements of CBT with a very- low-calorie diet (VLCD) to combat over-eating and eating addictions. We offer this combined plan nationwide with our specially trained weight-management Counsellors.

JOMO - Cancelling_Full Page Bleed New 19/07/2019 13:43 Page 1

Joy of
missing out...
Cancelled plans to watch TV? 1 in 3 Brits is there with you... e painful pang of seeing events on social media that have been missed out on could be a thing of the past in the UK. e Fear of Missing Out (FOMO) may have been the social trend but it is very well possible that the Joy of Missing Out (JOMO) is taking over in 2019.
Looking into the nation’s love of TV, research commissioned by TV streaming platform company Roku® reveals new consumer insights around the best excuse to use when you want to stay in, how it makes them feel and who they’d be hanging out with instead. It’s well known that the nation loves TV, be it a great film or a binge-worthy TV series. With that passion for the treasured tele, one in five people in Britain have said no to a birthday party or left-swiped for drinks so they could watch the films and shows they love. Half of those who have cancelled to watch TV at home have done so as recently as last month! An estimated 6 million people in Britain have been revealed to do so.
Brits shouldn’t feel bad for taking time for themselves, and they definitely don’t! “Happy” and “relieved” are the top emotions people in Britain say they feel when they are living their best JOMO lives. When it comes to cancelling plans, this tried and tested excuse comes out on top. Over half (53%) of British cancellers use “I'm feeling really sick, so I can't make it” as their go-to.
Having a night in doesn’t mean being by yourself, as almost a third (29%) of Brits who cancelled plans to watch TV say they would be snuggling up to their partners.
“I rea 'm fe e l can ly sic ling 't m k, s ake o I it”
Clive Hudson, vice president sales at Roku says, “Many of us have experienced FOMO, but JOMO is the positive trend that can help us claim back some much-needed downtime with our friends and family, be that gathered to stream the latest episode of Game of Thrones or simply having dinner together at home.”
With the excuse sent and the remote at the ready, the perfect #rokunightin can take place. If you identify as male, you’d be cancelling on a Saturday to stream your favourite action film with a third agreeing it’s their genre of choice. Not only that, you’d probably have your hands on a tasty slice of pizza (27%). However, if you identify as female, your #rokunightin could be quite a bit different. You’re likely to cancel your Friday night plans to stream a show or film in the drama genre (42%) with either your favourite chocolate (32%) or crisps (35%). • Sample: 1,000 adults based in the UK – 491 males and 509 females.
Night in watching TV vs. a night out...
• Being single doesn’t mean you’re always up for a night out. 41% of singletons who have cancelled plans have opted for the TV over social plans • Nearly one in five (19%) Brits in relationships have chosen to cancel plans for their favourite film or TV show
Excuses, excuses, excuses...
“Sorry, I have to work late tonight” The Joy of missing out...
• “Sorry, I have to work late tonight” is the UK’s second choice followed by “Oh no, I completely forgot that this was happening, and I've doublebooked”
• People who identify as male are twice more likely than those who identify as female to use their partner as their scapegoat
• Those who identify as male are nearly three times more likely to use a “lost” possession as an excuse to get out of commitments compared to people who identify as female

Recently I was introduced to a young man who was going places in the bright new world of Green journalism. As editor/publisher of the 'soon-tobe-launched' magazine 'The Emerald Minimalist' (On-line and print editions in the pipeline) he represents a threat to conventional thinking. The party who had performed the introduction had mischief on her mind, having once categorised yours truly as one of the most conventionally-minded thinkers she had ever met. Though it was a clash of worlds - reformer versus reprobate - I love a challenge and without hesitation threw down the gauntlet the moment I heard Damian Fairweather (aka Mr. Minimalist), opine 'Small is good' before launching into a rant against the increasing prevalence of SUVs on our congested roads. "I bet you" I said "Yesterdays used fag packet to a pound of cobblers that I can convert even you to the virtues of sustainable SUV motoring." "You're on squire" He responded. Inwardly I grinned. I knew I had an ace up my sleeve, or rather a Peugeot 3008 SUV, figuratively speaking, in my pocket. I pulled up outside his Metropolitan converted bike shed and tooted the horn. Mr. Minimalist didn't keep me waiting. His hipster beard came bouncing out of the door, supported by a slender body on stilt-like legs bending under the weight of a 'maximalist' rucksack full of his worldly goods. Fortunately it fitted easily into the large luggage space.

Peugeot 3008 GT Line "Is this it?" He called. "This is indeed the new Peugeot 3008 - holder of numerous awards" I replied. "It's typical of modern aggressive motors on steroids" he continued. "But steroidal enough to take your giant rucksack" I countered. He harrumphed and clambered in. I reminded him to fasten his safety belt but to make sure his lips were unzipped so that I might learn from his wisdom. Of course, the real objective was to turn him green with envy. The 3008's eye-catching style and new upmarket interior that is now even more practical makes it stand out and the interior
driver display 'i-cockpit' is a huge leap forward. Four trims are available but the test car was the GT Line that gives you lots of technology. Needless to say, construction standards are very high indeed. There's plenty of storage space too with the 'magic flat seating' permutations of 'seats up or down' and the luggage area is noticeably bigger than in the old model. It wasn't long before the high-tech credentials like automatic lights, a reversing camera, dual zone climate control, multipoint massage function on the drivers seat and much more turned carping into acclaim and criticism into concerted applause. Once properly underway he thought the new outstandingly smooth, torquey and
economical (A real 56mpg overall on test) 130hp 1.5 diesel (Peugeot are historically masters of the diesel art) - driving through Peugeots new 8-speed efficient automatic transmission that is one of the very best in the business was a petrol unit and that the smooth, well-controlled ride and sharp handling meant that it was a ridiculously expensive car for plutocrats only. I didn't bother to tell him the price was just ÂŁ33,100. He mistook the squashed appearance of the steering wheel for a reprehensible manifestation of style over substance but that was before I pointed out that the shape allows 'at a glance' access to the foot wide display screen. As a bit of a 'tekkie' he was soon rhapsodising over the rich harvest of information and entertainment available at the touch of buttons.
By Syd Taylor Motoring Reviewer At the same time he confessed that the SUV configuration made for a feeling of security. Once well into our journey the Peugeot pulled like a train and pointed its way forward like a pioneer: always the horizon beckoning with promise. Progress was quiet and statesman-like thanks to good suppression of mechanical and road noise and excellent aerodynamic efficiency. Should the mood have taken me I could have reached near 120mph (Where legal) - but it had gone quiet. Mr. Fairweather was enjoying a minimalist forty winks in maximum comfort.

New-build strikes right chord for Shrewsbury downsizers and having moved many times in the past we have become settled in Shropshire. “The whole moving process was excellent. We dealt with Kerry and Steven from the sales team and with Ben the site manager. They were all extremely efficient and helpful and with the 'Smooth Move' scheme, we were able to reserve the plot and we sold our house within a week.” With Smooth Move, Bovis Homes deal with the estate agents on their customers’ behalf, and even pay the agency fees.
M
usic lovers Geoff and Vicky Kirkland found that a new-build home in Shrewsbury hit all the right notes when it came to downsizing in their retirement.
Geoff, 75, and Vicky, 70, who will be celebrating their golden wedding anniversary next June, were in perfect harmony when it came to their decision to move to Bovis Homes’ popular Bowbrook Meadows location. Guitar-playing Geoff, who worked as a navigator in the RAF for 16 years and for 21 years in the process control engineering industry, says that they have found all they could have wished for and more in their new home – even down to the assistance received when purchasing the property. “We downsized from a 1930s house which, together with the garden, had become too much for us to manage,” says Geoff. “We loved the look and contemporary layout of the new house, the stunning kitchen family room, the en-suite bedrooms, and the double garage. The downstairs study was also appreciated as in our previous house it had been upstairs. “When it came to the outside environment, we also loved the open outlook and view from the front of the house. The overall layout of the location is also good, with the houses being set at different angles and not too close together.” Vicky, a talented piano player who worked as a dental nurse and classroom assistant for 10 years, added that the couple were delighted to find such a property on their own doorstep – and that the move was made easy thanks to a special Bovis Homes package. “We have lived in Shrewsbury for the last 25 years and have thoroughly enjoyed living here,” said Vicky, who first met Geoff on Valentine’s Day 1967. “It is a beautiful part of the country
Six months after moving in, the couple remain delighted with their switch to a new-build home – something they are familiar with from previous moves. “We have bought two new-builds previously,” said Geoff. “The main benefits are that everything is new and up to the latest standards. After renovating two previous houses, at our age we did not want any more building projects! “The house is very well built and finished, and we are very pleased with the quality of the fixtures and fittings. All the builders and tradesmen have been very friendly and helpful.” Now happily settled into their Bowbrook Meadows home, Geoff and Vicky will be combining their musical pursuits with a love of the great outdoors, and making the most of their wonderful location. “We like visiting National Trust properties and interesting towns,” said Vicky. “We both love the local Theatre Severn and meeting up with family and friends – old and new! “We have one son who is an actuary living in Cheshire, and a daughter who is a schoolteacher living in Staffordshire. We have one grand-daughter at present who also loves the house. We spent a number of years living in Cornwall and would loved to have retired there, but being closer to family was more important.” For more information about the house types and purchasing options available at Bowbrooks Meadows, visit www.bovishomes.co.uk.
