Take A Bite Of The Big Apple! When the chance arose for my husband Stef and I to visit Frankie & Benny’s in Shrewsbury, we jumped at it. I love all things American and one of my all-time favourite places is New York! Frankie & Benny’s is an authentic New York style Italian Restaurant, with cosy booth seating, a welcoming atmosphere and bustling open kitchen. As we strolled across the car park, on a very frosty evening, we could hear the music playing, sounds from the swinging 50’s & 60’s, which made us want to dance the rest of the way! We were greeted and shown to our table by the friendly staff.
We ordered our drinks, a diet coke for me and a Budweiser for Stef and offered dough balls to get us started, which were served with garlic butter and a tangy cheese dip, which we polished off in no time, they were the perfect thing to ‘wet our appetite’ ready for what was to come. There is a huge variety to choose from, including a specials menu, so we browsed the menu and enjoyed the vibe. There were bursts of flames from the kitchen as the chef’s prepared dishes and a really fun feel to the place and it reminded me of a trip Stef and I made a few years back to an Italian restaurant in Little Italy, a district in New York City, everyone was thoroughly enjoying the experience.
I opted for Chicken and Chorizo Gnocchi and Stef was thrilled to see they had BBQ Chicken and Ribs on the menu, which he couldn’t wait to try! We sipped our drinks and listened to the music some more, with classics from Elvis, Buddy Holly mixed in between some Christmas songs. In no time at all our main courses arrived, the portions were huge, my Gnocchi came with garlic ciabatta and was brimming with flavours and Stef happily tucked in to his BBQ Chicken & Ribs, which came with a generous portion of fries, corn on the cob and lashings of tasty BBQ sauce. He was particularly impressed with the chicken, which was evident in his enthusiasm whilst devouring it! My Gnocchi was just what I wanted on a

We let our main courses settle and then I saw Stef glancing towards the dessert menu, on the front was his favourite, a massive sundae, which I knew he would not be able to resist! There were a few to choose from and he pondered a while and decided Strawberry Shortcake was going to be ‘the one’ and I struggled to decide between a Raspberry Sorbet and a Peanut Butter Cheesecake, the sorbet won, but only just. They were delicious and rounded off the meal perfectly! The whole evening was brilliant, the staff are friendly & helpful, the atmosphere is fun and the food is excellent, we will definitely be going back very soon.

A Valentines Day Dinner To Fall In Love With! We strolled through Frankwell on a chilly winters evening, looking for somewhere to enjoy a cosy dinner. Just opposite the theatre, we found Steak & Grill Mediterranean Restaurant, just what the doctor ordered!
We were greeted warmly and shown to a lovely table right next to the window. The restaurant has been beautifully decorated and we noticed straight away that there was a very relaxed, chilled atmosphere, with soft music playing. We ordered our drinks and were given menus to browse through whilst we waited. Stef opted for a nice glass of Pinot grigiot and I had driven over so chose a nice diet soda. We were brought some plump juicy olives a bread to get things started, which are one of my favourite things, they were delicious.
We sipped our drinks and enjoyed the warm ambience, whilst deciding which delights we were going to try. There is a really great selection to choose from; I opted for the soup of the day – Carrot and Coriander for my starter and Fillet Mignon for my main, whilst Stef opted for BBQ Pork Ribs for starters and Beef Stroganoff for his main course.
The starters arrived very quickly, and we tucked in. The soup was amazing, full of flavour, with the coriander adding a really tasty kick to it, perfect to warm
me up. Stef said that his Pork Ribs were really tasty, loaded with succulent pork and lashings of barbecue sauce.
We ordered some more drinks while we waited for our main courses, which after the starter courses we were really looking forward to. In no time at all they arrived in all their glory, my Fillet Mignon was absolutely stunning, with fresh vegetables and the chunkiest homemade chips I have ever seen! It was cooked to perfection, flowing with juices and flavours I didn’t know existed and the mushroom sauce, with garlic, complimented it so well. The Beef Stroganoff had tender chunks of beef which Stef said melted in his mouth, this also came with huge chips and salad and was simply stunning. We were both bursting, however the dessert menu looked so tempting that we could not resist. Hatice, the owner of Steak & Grill, explained that they make most of the desserts in house, so they are very special and she was not wrong! I had the homemade Tiramisu (that’s Italian for heaven on a plate!) and Stef had to try the Sticky Toffee Pudding with fresh custard. They were both absolutely scrumptious! If you like amazing food and a warm welcome, you do not need to look any further than Steak & Grill Mediterranean Restaurant. All in all a great night, and highly recommended!
Brilliant!

HENRY TUDOR HOUSE
A SPECIAL WEDDING VENUE
WITH A BOUTIQUE TOUCH
Henry Tudor House is a unique Shrewsbury wedding reception venue which offers something a little different... It is one of the town’s most historic medieval buildings and has been beautifully restored to its former glory. As well as a thriving bar, restaurant and music venue it also has a large top floor function room with impressive vaulted ceiling which can be booked for wedding receptions, as well as a beautiful private dining room for more intimate after-marriage lunches or dinners. Clare and Graham Jenkins, proprietors of Henry Tudor House, situated just off the Wyle Cop, offer a boutique wedding reception service for couples who want something a little more intimate and individual, with
each event, tailor-made to suit the needs of the bride and groom – rather than just a ‘set package’ of food and drink. They work with couples to develop a reception, so family and guests can enjoy the really special and stylish feel of this historic Grade 1 listed building. It is a unique venue and every wedding held here is as distinctive as Henry Tudor House is.
The top floor at Henry Tudor House can host between 30 and 70 people depending on the seating plan. It has a stage area, superb acoustics and excellent lighting for live music – or even drama – which can be organised with a range of accomplished performers. The kitchen team is led by renowned chef Chris Conde who specialises in creating traditional dishes with a twist and he is happy to discuss requirements with wedding customers. Situated in an ideal town centre location in Barrack’s Passage, the historic half-timbered building was fully restored by Clare and husband Graham, with the interior given a quirky, contemporary feel.
Henry Tudor House provides a comfortable, intimate and welcoming setting – that is unlikely to be found in the more homogenous and larger venues.
The building is one of the oldest medieval buildings in Shrewsbury and is reputed to have got its name when Henry Tudor stayed at the site on his way to victory over Richard III at the Battle of Bosworth in 1485.

Bella Italia_Double Page Editorial 02/10/2014 12:43 Page 1
We were thrilled to be invited to the grand opening at Bella Italia in Southwater Telford. The area has been transformed into an inviting social hub for the town, with the introduction of some of the best restaurants in the UK. The new Bella Italia is a wonderful family restaurant, right in the heart of Southwater. It has been thoughtfully set out with lots of booth style seating areas, including an amazing one decorated with cups and saucers, rustic wood themes and beautiful lighting, which gives a really warm, comfortable vibe. The Telford restaurant is one of just 9 lucky restaurants to have a ‘Gelato Cart’, which certainly isn’t just for the kids! Both mine and my colleauge’s faces lit up when we saw it, with it’s glorious ice creams and what seems like hundreds of toppings!
We were greeted by the friendly staff, who are a real credit to the restaurant, and shown to our table. I opted for a soft drink and Surj was in need of wine! Our ‘ was very helpful, took our waitress, Pares orders, I had spotted Agnello Calzone slow cooked lamb and red wine ragu with mushrooms and caramelised onions and Surj opted for Polpette Americano Spaghetti with beef and pork meatballs in a rich tomato, garlic and herb sauce with a hint of chilli. We enjoyed the fun vibe for a little while and then the meals arrived. They were simply amazing! My calvone was huge, and the flavours were delightful. Surj tucked into her spaghetti eagerly and with little groans of delight, between mouthfuls, I could tell she was extremely impressed! We thought it would be rude to not give
the gelato cart a whirl, there are lots of amazing flavours to try, we went for Tiramisu, Chocolate and Mint Choc Chip and they were divine! Our favourite was the Tiramisu! Amazing.....
Nick White (Managing Director of Bella Italia) who was there for the big opening, explained:
“We are on a mission to make all of our restaurants a fun and interesting place for all the family. The Gelato Carts are in about nine restaurants currently and we will soon be rolling them out in more, they are a real hit with adults and children alike!” At Southwater we can say, with certainty, that they have achieved this.... Darwins Shrewsbury Kid’s Activities Big bangs, bad smells and strange goo at
Shrewsbury Darwin 2015
Shrewsbury Darwin Festival runs from Sunday 8th to Saturday 21st of February in various locations across Shrewsbury, with loads of activities to keep the kids busy over half term. This year’s Darwin festival celebrates curious minds and there’s plenty to entertain, whatever your age. Shropshire Wildlife Trust is running half term activities for children at its visitor centre, The Cut, opposite the Abbey. Children can create their own big bang, join in with some muddy madness or work themselves in to a frenzy over fossils. The Hive is running a creative, crafty workshop exploring the curious and colourful creatures Darwin discovered on his Beagle voyage. Children can create their own colourful creatures inspired by Darwin's voyage using a range of recycled materials, fabrics and arty stuff.
For the more musically minded, there is a brand new addition to the festival from the Radnor Improvisers: join an afternoon workshop on Saturday the 21st of February to help close the festival in style. People can learn how to make music with found items, animal calls and their own imagination. The workshop will be followed by an improvised performance by workshop attendees and the Radnor Improvisers, which is open to all. There’s also plenty to do for the adults. Specialist guest speaker Peter Lavis will be joining us from Cornwall to share the fascinating restoration story of The Lost Gardens of Heligan. Guiding the audience through the dramatic transformation that has taken place since their discovery in 1990, he will be followed by Shropshire Wildlife Trust’s leading expert on young Darwin, Sara Bellis, co-author ‘The curious mind of young Darwin’, to share Shropshire Wildlife Trust’s plans for rediscovering Darwin’s inspirational childhood garden in Shrewsbury.
There’s also a range of fantastic lectures, guided walks and a heritage potato fair for gardeners looking for varieties that you won’t even find on a farmer’s market stall. For the full programme, visit: www.shropshirewildlifetrust.org.uk

We are highly experienced practitioners caring for children from newborn upwards. Both of us have gained room leader roles within a nursery and have experience caring for children with a range of needs and abilities including Special Educational Needs, and Gifted and Talented. Other training includes: epilepsy awareness and rescue medication training, care for children with severe food allergies and intolerances. We are friendly, fun, caring and responsible individuals who provide a calm, nurturing environment. Based in the country side, we offer a variety of fun and stimulating activities to meet children's individual abilities, needs and interests. Some of the activities we provide are; nature walks around the large garden, gloop play, cloud-doh, play-doh, water activities, lots of role play
resources for the home corner, inclusive day trips to attingham park, farms and more. We support children's development of hand-eye co-ordination, fine manipulative skills and gross motor skills through different activities. We allow a mixture of child-initiated play as well as adult led activities to promote concentration and attention skills. Through observation of children, we
and working towards the early learning goals for each child. We understand children learn at different rates and we support this.
We both have excellent understanding of child development, identifying needs early to support children with early intervention if needed. We have experience of liaising with external agencies to support children with IEPs (individual education plans), including children with speech delays, physical needs and medical needs.
We have very good initiatives with caring for babies and children, helping them to settle when upset. We understand children starting in a new child care setting may be unsettled and we will work in partnership with parents as much as possible to allow a smooth transition and helping the child to settle. We have both cared for twins, ensuring they are treated and valued as unique individuals, ensuring each of their needs are met and are both happy. Children we care for are able to build good attachments and bonds with us, which will enable them to feel safe and secure to learn and develop effectively. We provide all meals, this includes breakfast, morning snack, lunch, afternoon snack and a tea. We also cater for babies who are weaning by providing their meals too.
The children's safety and wellbeing is paramount, their needs will always come first. We want to provide more for children and help them reach their full potential, for them to be happy and well cared for. Thank you,
Lucy and Rachel
understand how to plan activities that will include risk and challenge to promote their development and to help children learn how to take manageable risks. By knowing the children, we also know when to change activities so children do not become bored.
Children are able to make marks with pens, crayons, pencils and more, and also learn to write their names. We support children's letter and number recognition with lots of activities and resources to help get children ready for school. We help get children ready for school through daily routines, being good role models

Lost gardens and curious minds at
Shrewsbury Darwin Festival 2015
Festival organisers are delighted to announce that Peter Lavis, specialist speaker from the Gardens of Heligan, will be teaming up with Shropshire Wildlife Trust to explore two very different but equally important historic gardens: one a lost horticultural treasure and the other an incubator for one of the greatest scientific minds in history. During the evening of Thursday the 12th of February, Peter will share the fascinating restoration story of The Lost Gardens of Heligan, guiding the audience through the dramatic transformation that has taken place since their discovery in 1990. Shropshire Wildlife Trust’s leading expert on young Darwin, Sara Bellis, co-author ‘The curious mind of young Darwin’, will follow Peter to share Shropshire Wildlife Trust’s plans for rediscovering Darwin’s inspirational childhood garden in Shrewsbury. The festival starts on Sunday 8th of February with the hugely popular
choral evening service, Singing Darwin’s Praises, staged by St Chad’s church. The line up for 2015 also features fantastically fun children’s activities, for curious young minds, each day of the half term at Shropshire Wildlife Trust’s The Cut visitor centre. For the curious ‘young-at-heart’ minds, there are superb, high quality lectures hosted by the Society of Biology and the annual memorial lecture staged by the Friends of Shrewsbury museum, both of which bring to life aspects of Darwin’s voyages and work. Shropshire Wildlife Trust will officially be opening Darwin’s Garden with guided tours, perfect for those who like to explore history in the fresh air. At The Hive there will be an arts and craft workshop where people can create their own colourful creatures inspired by Darwin's Beagle voyage, using a range of recycled materials, fabrics and arty stuff.
The festival ends on Saturday 21st of February with an action packed day at Shropshire Wildlife Trust’s Shrewsbury visitor centre, The Cut. THE ICEHOTEL
Sweden’s famous ICEHOTEL - what’s in store for those planning a visit to Jukkasjärvi this winter?
Eastern European folk art, lush rain forests, abstract interpretations of love, Baroque architecture, the craft of printmaking and the inner works of a clock – these are just some of the themes that feature in the quirky hotel this year. Due to celebrate silver anniversary, the hotel opened its reindeer clad doors for the twenty-fifth time on December 12, 2014.
The 25th ICEHOTEL features a wide spectrum of art and design, with ideas ranging from Eastern European folk art, through to suites inspired by clock works, the Baroque and Gothic architectural eras. “Time Piece” looks like the inner cogs and wheels of a clock, while “Prime Mate” transports the guest into a lush rainforest. In the suite “Hot Type”, guests will sleep in the midst of the printing process. A commemoration to the art of printmaking, at the same time a play on the words “Hot Type” and “Cold
32
Setting” used in traditional printing technique and a reminder of a craft that has much been taken over by the digital world. Each year reincarnated with twentyodd individually designed and hand carved art suites, an ice church, ice bar and a majestic pillar hall, ICEHOTEL has been one of the most unique art projects in the world the past 25 years.
The silver edition - The designs for each year’s hotel are carefully selected from over 100 proposals sent in by designers and artists from around the world. This year is no different. Arne Bergh, Creative Director, says they did consider making the 25th anniversary a “bestof” rendition of previous years. “We discussed it, but in the end we decided that we should stick with our original line; we never do the same thing twice, it takes all the fun out of it.” Bergh continues: “Every year, we think ‘this has to be the best hotel we’ve ever made’, and I’m sure this year will be no different – we were really excited about the ideas that
THE ICEHOTEL_Double Page Editorial 11/12/2014 10:39 Page 2
were submitted for the 25th hotel.” This year, ICEHOTEL will host 42 artists from 11 different countries.
Aside from new design and art work, the hotel will also feature a new event hall, bar area and workshop for the ice sculpting classes that guests can take part in. The theatre, Aurora Hall, will be created using a new building technique whereby ice is casted on to a giant balloon. For this reason, the inner walls will be solid ice, and the outer walls will be covered in soft white snow, making for natural light and acoustics that are different to the other areas of the hotel.
The anniversary celebrations launched online on October 1st, with a well noticed online campaign at icelebrate.icehotel.com.
ICEHOTEL – The Warm Way For those who want to experience ICEHOTEL but prefer the creature comforts of a traditional bed, go WARM!
Most visitors spend 1 night in the cold rooms and the rest in the warm luxurious part of the hotel. As always when you stay at ICEHOTEL, breakfast, sauna, loan of warm clothing and complimentary entrance to ICEHOTEL throughout your stay are included in the price.

THE ICEHOTEL - JUKKASJÄRVI Be joined together in magic!
Are looking for a wedding venue with a difference? How about sharing your love with family and friends in an intimate Arctic wedding in Jukkasjärvi.
This unique location, the ice, the snow and the almost unreal surroundings at ICEHOTEL will leave you breathless and there are plenty of options for your ceremony.
The ICEHOTEL is reincarnated in a new fashion every winter, the crisp Ice Church and ICEHOTEL’s majestic main hall are truly unforgettable venues. The ephemeral nature of the ice church adds to the sensation – when no architectural memento exists, the memories and the vows exchanged are especially cherished.
For a country-side wedding, opt for the rustic Jukkasjärvi village church, dating back to the 1600′s. Or, why not a romantic ceremony in the wild, promising each other eternal love against a breath-taking back drop of rivers, mountains and forests.

Mediation – a positive way forward There have been huge changes to the family law and legal aid system in England and Wales in the last few years. These led to a gradual reduction in the number of solicitor’s firms offering legal aid for family law work.
With just a few exceptions, the family legal aid system vanished as from April last year. This had an enormous effect on many people needing to deal with issues concerning their children or family finances as here in Shropshire and Mid Wales, as in the rest of the country, there is not the option of being able to use a solicitor with the benefit of legal aid. Also, the court system is under increasing pressure and resources available to CAFCASS and social services are ever more limited. Despite all this, issues about children and finances between former couples are not getting any less or easier. There is no simple solution to the problems which are inevitably caused by separation and divorce. So more and more couples are faced with a choice having to pay fees that they really cannot afford to use a solicitor, or sort out their problems on their own or make applications to the increasingly overburdened court system. However, there has been increased interest in other methods of resolving
disputes over the past few years, and the Ministry of Justice is encouraging couples to consider mediation. Mediation is an alternative way to resolve issues, where a qualified and independent mediator helps couples make their own arrangements for their children or dividing their assets without the need to go to court. Not only does this way of dealing with matters reduce conflict and hopefully help the couple to at least keep a civilised relationship for the future, but according to the Ministry’s own figures, mediation takes about a quarter of the time of court proceedings, and can be eight times cheaper. Importantly, legal aid is still available for mediation if an individual is financially eligible and so the whole process could well be free.

Article written by Cathy Swan, Solicitor and Mediator with Wace Morgan Family Mediation Service on legal aid changes and mediation
Mediation is not right for every separating couple, and mediation services will carry out careful individual assessments to ensure that it is the right way forward. Some cases will have to be resolved by a court, and mediation cannot solve every problem. However, many couples are surprised how issues can be narrowed and how much progress can be possible in a short space of time. The advantage of being able to speak directly to each other in a controlled and neutral environment is immense and can lead to great progress even where couples are not optimistic that they will be able

NEW YEAR, NEW YOU?
In the early 1900’s Thomas Edison said that "The doctor of the future will give no medicine but will interest his patients in the care of the human frame, in diet and in the cause and prevention of disease." It is a quote that has often come across my desk as a chiropractor, being interested in increasing the wellbeing of the community through ensuring the human frame is maintained in its ideal form and encouraging better nutrition and exercise.
Fast forward to today and I’m sure you will agree that the quote still applies. Despite all of the medical break throughs we see appearing (which are still primarily pharmaceutically based), nothing beats prevention of disease and maintaining the body in a healthy and fit state. We help ourselves achieve this by ensuring that key areas contributing to overall health are looked after: the physical (our movements, posture and exercise), the chemical (what we eat, drink and ingest) and the emotional (our thoughts and actions).
As a chiropractor I initially help by allowing your nervous system to function without the burden of interference caused by poor posture, movement or trauma. The importance of this is because your nervous system controls and co-ordinates every single cell tissue and organ in the body, so a correctly functioning nervous system will allow for a correctly functioning body. As the nervous system is overcome by stressors from the physical, chemical and emotional trauma we face daily, it ceases to provide good control and coordination of the rest of the body. This means we lose the capacity to maintain a healthy state of being. To test this, in our practice we have technology measuring how your nervous system is coping and adapting to all of the stressors. We then work together to repair and prevent the onset of deteriorating health!

Body Cleansing with Forever Clean 9 This two-step process covers body cleansing, weight loss and long term weight management, whilst also providing important nutritional elements needed for safe, healthy results. The great thing about this two-step programme is that the products work in synergy to aid in the body’s natural cleansing, burning stored fat cells and helping to achieve optimum nutrition. STEP ONE The Clean 9 pack is designed as the perfect kick-start to a new health regime, allowing you to see and feel results within just 9 days! The great thing about this element is that it is not just about weight loss, but body cleansing - a process that needs to be at the heart of any weight management programme if you want fast and effective results. With everything you need in one box, the programme is easy to follow, and will help to cleanse your system whilst burning fat stores. To achieve this cleansing, a nutritional product is needed, that will work in the digestive system. The Aloe Vera Gel - contains over 200 different compounds - is a powerful, nutritional drink for good health and well-being, hitting your
digestive system so that it starts to work immediately. Whilst on any weight loss plan, the body still needs to feel nourished, so protein is really important. The Forever Lite Ultra with Aminotein is high in protein, providing 100% RDA
of vitamins & minerals, with an Aminotein element which provides a blend of enzymes specifically designed to break down the protein in your diet. This leads to quicker absorption in the body. Plus, it makes a delicious meal replacement shake that you will enjoy having twice a day throughout the programme. Often, with weight loss programmes, you will feel energy levels drop.
Forever Bee Pollen is a potent multivitamin and multi-mineral supplement, which will help maintain your energy and stamina, whilst looking after the circulatory, immune, nervous and digestive systems. Balancing glucose levels throughout any weight loss programme can be tough. Forever Garcinia Plus quickly energises the body whilst helping us to maintain normal blood glucose levels. It’s a great product to aid natural metabolism whilst reducing cholesterol and perfect for a weight management supplement. You will see and feel the difference after just 9 days! Your system will feel cleansed and this will be the perfect platform from which to start your new health regime - Forever Nutri-Lean. Using the programme will help you reach and sustain your ideal weight, but more importantly, you will feel great.
