Jenko's Mongoli The m As we arrived at Jenko’s we were greeted by a welcoming member of staff, we were offered drinks as we were so eager to sample the delights on offer, we arrived a little early. Whilst our table was being prepared we went to the bar where local customers sat enjoying a relaxing drink. We sat by the open fire and I could have sat there all night! It was a beautiful setting.
As we walked through in to the amazingly designed log cabin we walked past the self-select food bar and the large open circular hotplate, it instantly excited me and I knew we were in for a treat. We were stunned, inside the log cabin was beautiful. It gave a warm and welcoming romantic feel, each table lit with a single candle flickering a soft warm glow.
Once at our table the waitress brought over the menu for our starters, it was such a hard decision to make. Each dish sounded delightful! On the menu were Garlic Mushrooms, Mongolian Skewered Mutton Kebabs and Spinach Tartlets to name just a few. My partner Simon a mushroom lover opted for the Garlic Mushroom, he enjoyed every mouthful. The mushrooms were fresh and well complimented in a creamy wine and garlic sauce presented perfectly with a fresh ciabatta. He said it was the best dish he has ever had! I opted for the Mongolian Skewered Mutton Kebabs that came drizzled in a sweet chilli sauce, the combination was divine! A pleasure to my pallet, the lamb was mouth-watering and was served with a side salad which included olives and grapes. This dish is a must try! I would recommend it to all that dine at Jenko’s.

lian Barbeque mongolian experience! After our starters it was the moment we had both been waiting for! The Mongolian BBQ! Our waitress, who was an absolute credit to the restaurant, asked if we would like any side orders. I had Ciabatta Garlic Bread whilst Simon ordered Crispy Homemade Chips, the chips were the best I’ve ever had I couldn't stop myself from pinching them from him!
We went up to the self select bar where you have a bowl and pick your selected ingredients, there were so many different things to choose from. The meat included chicken, Tikka Chicken, Pork, Tandoori Pork, Gammon, Beef, Old Smoked Haddock, King Prawns & Mussels and Sausage. After we had decided on our meat it was time to pick our vegetables, there is such a vast variety! From onions to bean sprouts, carrots, mushrooms, sweet corn, broccoli only to name a few! Once we had picked what we wanted in our bowls we headed over to another area filled with all the spices, flavouring's and sauces you could imagine! This is where it gets exciting and your taste buds spring into action! If you are a little unsure about what flavour you want there are some traditional Mongolian recipes above to help you out! I decided on the Chilli Khan Do! Simon was more adventurous and opted for various different spices! We moved over to the large griddle where it was cooked before our very eyes, this is where the magic happens! The chef was cooking 5 different dishes for various customers as well as ours! And after a short wait our creation was ready! Now we could pick a savoury side, you could choose from pasta, noodles or rice. I had noodles and
rice and Simon had the noodles. Back at our table and as the traditional music rung out we tucked in. As I was eating I felt spoilt! The meat was succulent and infused with flavour. Our meals were perfect.
On to our desserts, finishing off our Jenko’s experience. Our waitress brought over the dessert menu and we were blown away, there were so many delicious dishes to choose from. Too many to list. I ordered the Triple Chocolate Brownie described as “A chocolate lover’s paradise! WOW! I was in for a treat. The brownie was mouth –watering it was soft and melted in my mouth complimented by a smooth thick chocolate sauce and a helping of fresh whipped cream supporting a small flaked chocolate. Simon ordered from the cheesecake menu, Banoffee cheesecake took his fancy, a topping of rich banoffee toffee with fresh banana sat on a blanket of light caramel sauce. When asked to describe it in two words he replied “The Best!” he was taken away. The different textures were heavenly and despite our tummies being full to the brim he could have eaten it over and over! Jenko’s also do an all you can eat carvery on Sunday’s. I and Simon will definitely be back to sample a plate or two! If that wasn't enough for you Jenko’s offer a delivery service! Sunday lunch to your door, I will eat to that! Finally, I would like thank Mark & his staff at Jenko’s for the service and care we received on our visit. The staff are an asset to the business and without the excellent team work I witnessed, Jenko’s would not be able to be as successful as they are today.
Thank you Jenko’s and from THE HYPE & we wish you every success in the future. (Written by Jasmine Clemson).

hai food is internationally famous, whether its chilli-hot or comparatively mild, harmony is the guiding principle behind each dish. I love Thai food, with its flavours, aromas and variety, so was really looking forward to visiting Thai Fusion in Ironbridge. My colleague Imran and I made our way through the town, it was a chilly winter evening and Ironbridge looked glorious with its pretty Christmas lights. Thai Fusion could not be situated in a better spot, with its lovely views of the world famous bridge.
We went in and were greeted with a warm smile and the most amazing aromas. Hong Mei showed us to a table near a large window with a lovely view and took our drinks order. Imran had chauffeured me for the evening, so opted for a soft drink but I fancied a nice glass of rose wine. We were given the menus along with a selection of Thai Prawn Crackers, perfect for wetting our appetites. It was so hard to choose as all of the dishes looked delicious, Imran asked for some guidance from Hong Mei, who suggested that he
give the Thai Fusion Spring Rolls a try. I had spotted Bags of Gold, minced prawn and chicken flavoured with garlic wrapped in rice paper and fries until golden brown which are served with sweet chilli sauce, perfect! We chatted for a while whilst enjoying the relaxed vibe of the restaurant and the glass of wine of course. It was no time at all until our appetizers arrived, and just the smell alone was enough to know I had made the right choice. I couldn’t wait to taste a bag of gold, so tucked in enthusiastically; they were delicious with the fresh garlic and the sweet chilli sauce accompanied them brilliantly. Imran was equally as keen to try his spring rolls, which also came with sweet chilli sauce, which he devoured in no time at all and thoroughly enjoyed. I had chosen Plung-Gna Island, stir fried lamb with ginger, mushrooms, spring onions, garlic and garnished with fresh basil leaves and shredded long red chillies for a little ‘kick’ and Imran chose King Prawn Jungle Curry; a spicy curry cooked with fresh young green peppercorns, shredded grachia, Thai aubergines, pineapple, lychee and garnished with Thai
sweet basil and shredded red chillies. We decided to share a Special Fried Rice to go along side. The mains arrived quickly and again we could not wait to give them a try; my lamb was simply amazing, the flavours of the ginger and garlic oozing from every bite. I could not believe how tender the lamb was, it really did melt in your mouth! The red chillies certainly did have a kick, but the nice thing is that it wears off as quickly as it hits you. Imran isn’t scared of a bit of spice and let out little moans of delight as he devoured his Jungle Curry. One of the best parts though, were the Tiger Prawns in the Special Fried Rice, they were definitely the best I have EVER tasted! I think the one thing that makes Thai food special is that every mouthful has a new flavour, there are delicate differences which make each taste a new one, enticing your senses. Thai Fusion is well worth a visit, it’s great setting and warm and inviting atmosphere, along with it’s delicious food make it a must, and I will certainly be going back again.
Mumbal Lounge_Double Page Editorial 27/01/2014 12:06 Page 1
The Elephant and Castle is Shawbury’s oldest pub, established in 1734. However in 2013 it underwent a slight change of direction with the introduction of Mumbai Lounge which operates from within the pub – a great concept, so we just had see what all the Hype was about! We walked through the entrance of Mumbai Lounge, and were immediately taken aback by the decor. The combination of traditional and contemporary features gave the interior a touch of class. We were warmly greeted by the front of house staff, escorted to our table and handed the menus, for us to peruse. Eileen and I both commented on how relaxed the atmosphere was, as not only were there diners, who were obviously enjoying their meals, but people at the bar enjoying a drink and a friendly chatter. There was an extensive drinks menu, and we could have chosen a beer or a glass of wine, however we ordered soft drinks as it was a school night.
On to the food – Eileen opted for the king prawn butterfly; succulent pieces of king prawns marinated in tradional spices to give it the authentic Indian taste. I settled on the mixed kebab, which included chicken tikka, lamb tikka, and seek kebab. Both starters came with salad and raita sauce.
It wasn’t long before our starters came out, the aroma was sensational, and the food was presented beautifully - I couldn’t wait to tuck in. The flavours took me on a virtual journey to the Indian subcontinent; the marination on the meat was superb. The meat was succulent and the accompaniments of the salad and raita sauce went down a treat. A big thumbs up from Eileen too. A fan of prawns, she didn’t take long to finish her starter – ‘the prawns were cooked to perfection’ she commented!
Just like a traditional Bollywood film, the starters being the setup up for the main story, we were now eagerly awaiting our main storyline – the main course, and we didn’t have to wait long.
We opted to choose a couple of the chef’s specialities for our mains – Eileen decided on Murgh Narangee, which is tender chicken off the bone, cooked with lamb mince, mixed herbs & spices with an omelette on top. I on the other hand, picked the Chicken Ferozi, which consisted of boneless chicken breast, cooked in garlic, with onions, tomatoes, fresh chillies and herbs & spices. It was capped off with a poached egg on top. We had also ordered plain naans to accompany the mains. Where do I start? We shared the mains between us – the first thing I noticed was that again the food gave off a fabulous aroma, inviting us to dive straight in. The different combinations of flavours were in every biteful. The meat, again, was perfectly cooked, and seasoned well. The sauce was rich in flavour and not too oily – like it can be in other Indian restaurants. The Naan breads were light and fluffy, and were the perfect extras to the lead role in the Mumbai Lounge Bollywood blockbuster. We were full to the brim, so couldn’t manage a dessert but will certainly be trying one next time. If you are looking for a relaxed meal in beautiful surroundings then Mumbai Lounge is the place to be. Mumbai Lounge is taking bookings for Valentines & Mother’s Day – call now to avoid disappointment.

Michael Bublé brings his live Arena Tour to the NIA in Birmingham on the 12th & 13TH March 2014 Michael Bublé announced details of his return to the UK as he takes his live experience to Birmingham’s NIA.
Michael Bublé is still riding high in the charts with the ongoing success of his current album ‘To Be Loved’ – the album was his first to go straight to #1 in the UK with first week sales of 120,000 and passed the 200,000 mark just three weeks later. michael bublé
In his biography Michael says: “I think it’s the best album I’ve ever made…I know every artist on earth says that when their new album is coming out but really - this time it’s true. I swear.
You can ask my mother. But don’t take my word for it or my mom’s. Play it yourself and you’ll see and hear I’m telling the honest truth. I want to take you on a wonderful journey about love – all different kinds of love.
The album swings big time – it rocks – it’s soulful – it’s happy –sometimes a little sad - it’s romantic – it’s yummy and it’s heartfelt.
Do not think I take my success these last ten years for granted. I was anything but an overnight sensation which inspires me to deliver big time for my fans – maybe even make some new ones this time out. Trust me, there’s no sitting back, no dialing in for me. I labored over every song, every note and every arrangement because I can’t resist trying to make each record better than my last one. It helps that I’m pretty happy in my life at the moment and feel that I’ve really grown a lot as a songwriter and interpreter of great songs. On “To Be
Loved” I felt a new sense of freedom to create and kind of take things further – maybe take a few risks and dig deep to find some gems. None of these songs would be what they were without the help of my partner in crime, the great Bob Rock who helped me realize all my dreams with the songs on “To Be Loved”. He is a producer extraordinaire and was there 1000 percent every day we were recording. Special thanks go to the vocal talents of Naturally 7, The Puppini Sisters and The Dap Kings for perfecting the sound I was trying to create. I don’t know if people even read these things so if you’ve gotten this far, thank you for taking the time. I know I sing better than I write but I wanted you to understand a little bit about what I wanted to accomplish with “To Be Loved”. I hope you love my record. See you on the road.” Love, Michael. Ali G Rezurection_Double Page Editorial 10/01/2014 11:28 Page 1
ALI REZURECTION G
Booyakasha!!! Ali G is back, innit! Back on the small screen with the rezurection of Da Ali G Show!
Sacha Baron Cohen has been recording new Ali G material for the first time in over six years after signing a deal with FXX comedy channel. The 42-year-old comedian has agreed to record introductions which will air before old episodes of Da Ali G Show as part of the Ali G: Rezurection season on Fox’s FXX comedy channel. The recording of new material forms part of a deal which will give FXX the first option on new ideas by Sacha.
Ali G was retired in 2007, although he made a brief reappearance in 2012, when he appeared on stage at the British Comedy Awards to pick up Sacha’s Outstanding Contribution Award but as always caused a stir with jokes about Kate
Middleton and Jimmy Savile.
Ali G, a boorish, uneducated, faux-streetwise character with a deeply stereotypical view of the world, first came to our screens on Channel 4's The 11 O'Clock Show as the "voice of da yoof" in 1998. He interviewed various public figures, embarrassing the interviewee with masses of political incorrectness and getting them to agree to all kinds of insults. Examples of his bold interviewing style include getting Lindsay Urwin, the Bishop of Horsham, to admit that God created the Universe, and then asking him, "And since then, he's just chilled?"
In an interview with the Chairman of the Arts Council of England Gerry Robinson Ali G's first question was: "Why is the arts so - excuse me French, but - crap?"
The funniest one for me was his interview with the Beckhams, for comic relief. David was picked on straight away. 'Now, just
because it's Comic Relief doesn't mean you can speak in a silly voice,' said Ali . Victoria was left speechless by a conversation about her son Brooklyn. 'So how old is Brooklyn now?' Ali asked. 'He's nearly two,' replied Victoria. 'So tell me, is your little boy starting to put whole sentences together?' 'He's learning the bits and pieces, so yeah.' 'And what about Brooklyn?'
He went on to ask her about a recent bout of illness ‘Posh me heard you recently ad a disease of de head, called mingingitis, are you better now?’, Victoria replied ‘I had viral meningitis, but yeah i’m better now’. Beyonce Mrs Carter Tour_Double Page Editorial 10/01/2014 11:10 Page 1
That the album was available on the day the world learned about its release was an unprecedented strategic move by the artist to deliver music and visual content directly to her fans when she wants to and how she wants to, with no filter. This unique approach allows music fans to be the first to listen, view, engage and form their own opinions void of any middleman. In the age of social media and an insatiable appetite for direct communication, it was the answer to the question asked over and over again, when was Beyoncé’s next album coming?
“ I didn’t want to release my music the way I’ve done it,” she explained. “I am bored with that. I feel like I am able to speak directly to my fans. There’s so much that gets between the music, the artist and the fans. I felt like I didn’t want anybody to give the message when my record was coming out. I just want this to come out when it’s ready and from me to my fans.” Stripped of gimmicks, teasers and marketing campaigns, this project is truly about art before hype. Not one to stand on past achievements, this is an artist who thrives on evolving, challenging herself and raising the bar. This creative process gave Beyoncé power over her music and provided an opportunity to control how the music is heard. She is not playing by the rules and breaking what is expected, preferring to put music out as an entire body of work. Beyoncé, wearing multiple hats as writer, producer and director, put together a genius team of artists, songwriters, producers and video directors for her visual album that include JAY Z, Timbaland, Justin Timberlake, Pharrell Williams, Drake, The Dream, Sia, Ryan
For the videos, some of which she co-directed, she preferred to work with a more care-free formula. Shot primarily during her successful “Mrs. Carter Show World Tour”. The videos are visually stimulating, charged with visionary cinematography and clever storytelling. They capture every side of who she is, complete with vulnerability and even her imperfections, YES even Bey has some!!
The “Mrs. Carter Show World Tour” is now on its way to the UK, with Queen Bey kicking things off in Glasgow on 20th February, playing 12 dates across the UK including 2 at Birmingham’s LG Arena.
Beyonce's new UK 2014 February and March tour dates are as follows:
{ February 23 - LG Arena, Birmingham { February 24 - LG Arena, Birmgingham { February 25 - Manchester Arena, Manchester { February 26 - Manchester Arena, Manchester { February 28 - The O2, London { March 1 - The O2, London { March 2 - The O2, London { March 4-6 - The O2, London

“I see music,” says Beyoncé about her decision to create a visual album. “It’s more than just what I hear. When I’m connected to something, I immediately see a visual or a series of images that are tied to a feeling or an emotion, a memory from my childhood, thoughts about life, my dreams or my fantasies. And they’re all connected to the music.”
Tedder, Miguel, Frank Ocean, Hit Boy, Ammo, Boots, Detail, Jake Nava, Hype Williams, Terry Richardson, Melina Matsoukas, Jonas Åkerlund, Ricky Saiz, Pierre Debusschere, @lilinternet, Noah “40” Shebib, Francesco Carrozzini, Caroline Polachek, Ed Burke, Bill Kirstein and Todd Tourso.
WELL HELLO...Mrs Carter!
Beyoncé will be performing tracks from her 'surprise' 2013 album, which is self-titled. The album features collaborations with husband Jay-Z, daughter Blue Ivy, Drake and Frank Ocean among others. The album is 14 tracks long, but as a visual album, comes with an additional 17 videos.

THE HYPE - ROMANTIC DESTINATIONS
PARIS 1 That’s AMORE!
Paris, the city of love, who could question that? It really is a city for lovers, for strolls along the Seine, sipping coffee at a café, and for picture-perfect moments in romantic neighbourhoods like Montmartre. Then there's the Champs Elysees, the Eiffel Tower lit up at night, and the many, many gardens like the Jardin du Luxembourg. In Paris, love is in the air everywhere you look around.
ROME 3 Monte Belle
Rome stirs the senses, evoking images of gladiators and ancient times; Rome is one of the world's most dazzling cities. Lovers sit by its many fountains to throw coins as they make a wish, share gelatos and sip cappuccinos in the middle of beautiful piazzas, all while soaking in three thousand years of history. In Rome, life really is dolce.
LAS VEGAS 5 Viva Las Vegas
You might wonder why Las Vegas? Well with an average of 315 weddings a day it is the marriage capital of the world. Iconic spots such as the drive-through altar at the Little White Chapel and the Graceland Wedding Chapel are must see sights on the Vegas map, even if tying the knot is not part of your plans! Not only that, Las Vegas has got all of the other top romantic cities, all rolled into one. There is the Eiffel tower at the Paris hotel, the indoor gondolas at the Venetian hotel, the dramatic Caesar’s Palace with its glorious Roman themes and the wonderful New York New York. I got married in the Little White Chapel and would recommend it to anyone, it was an amazing experience!
Romantic Cities_Double Page Editorial 10/01/2014 14:55 Page 2
VENICE 2 Just One Cornetto
Venice always seems like a bit of a miracle to me, more like something from a Hollywood set, for the backdrop of a romantic film, than a real city. Thank goodness it’s not just from a movie, as it would most likely not capture the fairy tale that it is in reality. Canals and stunning architecture, what could be more romantic than a gondola ride, or a walk over narrow bridges, getting lost through the narrow lanes, and ending up at monumental square? If you're not in love already, you will be.
NEW YORK 4 The Big Apple
The "Capital of the world" lives up to that title. From Wall Street to Broadway, there is always something going on in the city that never sleeps, new restaurants opening to share all of the world's cuisines, what’s not to love. From pizzerias in little Italy to walking through Central Park in the snow, it doesn’t get much more romantic! Trendsetting New York is the city everyone should visit at least once in their lifetime.

A night in the cells?.. it’s a steal!
The Old Police Station 57 Waterloo Street Ironbridge Shropshire TF8 7AA
Tel: 01952 433055.
Whether it's a birthday celebration, anniversary dinner or simply getting together with friends, it's always good to turn a meal into a memorable occasion – and a night in the cells at Pondicherry certainly fits the bill. If you love Indian food you are probably already acquainted with Pondicherry in Ironbridge. Of course, “Indian food” is a bit of a misnomer - as its name suggests Pondicherry draws on influences from all over the subcontinent -from Pakistan to Pondicherry itself. (If you have seen the film “The Life of Pi you may recognise Pondicherry: India's tiny ex-French colony with its own distinctive fusion of Asian flavours and Gallic flair).
“Our” Pondicherry in Ironbridge has already gained a well earned reputation for raising the culinary bar. It's certainly not fussy or pretentious but its dishes are served with style and flair. You'll enjoy dishes which capture the true spirit of Indian cuisine where herbs and spices combine to produce a subtle and complex play on flavours. Since each dish is made to order, you can specify how hot or mild you prefer your dish and Pondicherry is also able to refine virtually every dish on its menu to suit vegetarians or those with special dietary requirements. They also enjoy creating meals which provide children with their first experience of Indian food.
In truth, the food itself is enough to warrant reserving a table for your next celebration meal - but that's only half the story. Even Pondicherry's address (The Old Police Station, Ironbridge) only hints at just how unique this venue is.
Regular visitors will be familiar with the stylish bar and Constable’s Lounge on the ground floor and the high ceilinged Old Courtroom, with the ornate Royal Coat of Arms above the door which now serves as Pondicherry's main restaurant. But following a major refurbishment, the real surprise exists below ground level. Go down to the cells, which have welcomed some pretty notorious guests in the distant past, and you'll discover a unique combination of the traditional and the modern. Behind very solid oak studded doors the three cells have been transformed into a trendy lounge and two
very different private dining rooms. Each can accommodate parties of six to twelve, sitting beneath Victorian vaulted ceilings and enjoying a very contemporary dining experience. You can select items from the main restaurant menu or leave the Pondicherry boys to create your very own Indian banquet. It’s difficult to think of another venue that can provide such a unique and memorable dining experience for as few as half a dozen diners - and it's rather exciting to think that you can have “a night in the cells” for a price that really is a steal!

What Is Semi-Permanent Make-Up?
Leza B Spmu
Semi-Permanent Makeup (SPMU) is a relatively recent phenomenon, becoming more prevalent in the last 15 years. It is implanting the right colour in the right place so you can look better naturally. It is not an extreme art but one of subtle harmony. It is the implantation of a pigment suspended in a medium into the dermis or under the skin instead of on top as with traditional makeup. SPMU is an alternative to cosmetic pencils applied to the eyebrows, eyelids, lips and other parts of the face.

John Biddle Edit_Double Page Editorial 23/01/2014 12:48 Page 1
John Biddle Opticians (JBO) is an independent established in 1972 and remains in the same ownership today (but with a younger team). Young and experienced. A nice combination.
The Optometrist determines whether the eyes require visual correction, are the front line in monitoring eye health, and specialise in contact lenses. The Dispensing Optician specialises in interpreting the prescription and recommends a choice of lens solutions, is experienced in assisting with frame selection (with reference to the type of lenses and facial features), and also possesses the skills necessary to manipulate and adjust the fitting of the frame to the head to satisfy all visual and aesthetic requirements. Independent Opticians differentiate themselves from the High Street multiples by their passion for the job, in understanding your individual optical needs and recommending appropriate solutions from a wide range of products. If there is a belief that independent Optician’s are more expensive than the High Street multiple Opticians it is not really true. We have frames and lenses starting from £29 a pair (free if you qualify for an NHS optical voucher). Of course you can pay more, as with everything else from cat food to cars. The difference with an independent is they have access to ALL the latest products and will explain their features and benefits when relevant to you. After all, with vision, everyone deserves, at least, to be offered the best solution.
Then you can make an informed choice, based on understanding and affordability.
Conventional distance or reading glasses were the only choice for a long time for hundreds of years with very little or no change, and in the case of bifocals from about 1875. Today, technology has enabled truly amazing improvements in vision correction, including improvements to contact lenses, all of which can make a real difference. An independent Optician is at the forefront of understanding this technology and making it available to you, if appropriate. Ultimately, the choice is yours, but a decision is better made when your personal options are explained by someone willing and able to spend the time doing so with you. If you have any questions or would like to arrange a free consultation, please call 01952 587423 or e-mail admin@johnbiddleopticians.com
Quotes from customers: “Just a quick e-mail to say thank you again for the excellent personal service you showed me recently when I renewed my glasses. It was a pleasure doing business with you, from the initial consultation through to the eye examination, and finally the appointment to have my new glasses checked and fitted. You displayed a level of personal and professional service that certainly wasn’t matched by almost all the other opticians in Shrewsbury. I must admit I had left you until last, as I had presumed you to be
somewhat expensive compared to the competition, but I guess that proves the old adage - you get what you pay for. However from the moment I walked into your branch I realised my money would be best spent with you. The young lady who is on reception has a manner that almost all receptionists could benefit from copying. She has such a welcoming smile and attitude it just reassures you that you will be well looked after. She admirably proves that old fashioned service doesn’t have to be ‘old fashioned’. Having a courtesy call before my appointment was also a nice touch, thank you. Rest assured that I will continue to come to you for all future eye tests and glasses - unless any of you leave, then I’ll just have to hope you will train your replacements to exactly the same high standards”. Mrs Rene B, Shrewsbury “I’d like to say a big thank you on behalf of my Mrs G. Your optician’s thorough test revealed a tumour behind her eyes. She has now been given the all clear and her doctor says that your speedy and accurate intervention has undoubtedly prevented a much worse situation from developing. Our heartfelt thanks” Mr G. “The event hosts a vast range of exciting competitions, and is packed with information, advice and entertainment for all dog lovers. Every single dog is special and so we will be hosting an online Crufts Factor competition to showcase the vast range of talents our dogs possess and will be asking people to post photos and stories about their dogs for competitions on our Facebook page.” Amongst the competition and events at Crufts will be the inaugural Obreedience Competition, where different breeds will go head-to-head to demonstrate their superior obedience skills.
Celebrating the British love affair with dogs, Crufts will be returning to the NEC Arena in Birmingham and to our television screens again on 6-9 March 2014. The four-day event will see the nation’s most heroic dogs rewarded in the prestigious Friends for Life competition; the nation’s favourite crossbreeds compete in the Scruffts grand final; the world’s most athletic canines battling it out in dog sports such as Agility and Flyball and the world-famous Best in Show competition. The Best in Group competitions that lead to the Best in Show will see Working and Pastoral breeds compete on the 6th March, Terriers and Hounds on the 7th March, Toy and Utility breeds on the 8th March and Gundogs on the 9th March. The canine extravaganza will be shown on More 4 from Thursday to Sunday and then
on Channel 4 for the Best in Show finale on Sunday evening. Those outside the UK can watch all the key action live on the Crufts YouTube Channel www.youtube.com/user/officialcrufts.
Crufts will be preceded by a three week Channel 4 series called The Dog Show, where dogs will compete in a series of challenges and the winner will make an appearance at Crufts. e Animal Management Experience
Many people associate the Walford Campus of Walford and North Shropshire College (WNSC) with Agriculture, which is correct owing to the 150 plus full-time students and trainees studying this subject. However, for the past 18 years WNSC has also been delivering Animal Science and Management programmes, this has now become the largest department. The College is also in its second year of delivering animal courses at a purpose-built facility at the Shipley Campus, Bridgnorth Road (next to Gardenlands).
Over the last 12 months the College has invested heavily in Agricultural resources with a new state-of-the-art 300-cow Dairy Unit at Walford, but also, many may not realise that there is also a small zoo at Walford with over 90 species and a smaller zoo at Shipley with over 50 species of animal and thousands of examples including mammal, reptile, fish, invertebrate, amphibian, etc. Over the last nine years our second year Level 3 Agricultural students have been going to New Zealand for three weeks to learn about non-subsidised profitable farm systems which is vitally important as
our own Agricultural Industry is moving to a non-subsidised system. Last month Rupert Hill, Deputy Head of Faculty and Head of the Animal Management department visited Northern Zambia to set up a study tour for the Level 3 Animal Management and the Foundation degree in Animal Science with Animal Health Management (validated by Staffordshire University) students. The Kasanka Trust who WNSC is partnering oversees not only the Kasanka National Park, but also Lavushi Manda (1500 square kilometres) and the adjacent Bangweulu wetlands. The aim of
this study tour is for the students to research the rich variety of habitats, undertake conservation work and get involved in community projects. This will involve day and night safaris and river expeditions. This experience will be valuable for the students in future job opportunities and progression into higher education.
As our Animal Management students want to progress further up the ‘educational ladder’ we have met this demand by successfully validating a new Foundation Degree in Animal Science with Animal Health Management through Staffordshire University which starts in September 2014. This two year full-time programme will involve many animal science subjects, research projects and further study tours equipping our students for a very rewarding career.
If you are considering a future in an Animal Management / Science please visit the website at www.wnsc.ac.uk or call 01691 688080.

Dragon’s Den - Have It All... Whenever I feel like eating Chinese or Cantonese I always look at the menu and I have to decide what to order. There are always so many great choices to opt for but you have to settle on just a single starter, main course and dessert. I have always thought to myself ‘wouldn’t it be great if I could try everything’. Well, now that wish has been granted and Dragon’s Den offers a full buffet style dining experience, alongside a range of set menus or a full A la Carte service. There are even English style options, Vegetarian options and a kids menu. I had recently been lucky enough to spend an evening at this fantastic restaurant and had decided to spoil my wife with the ‘all you can eat’ experience that we had heard about from our friends.
When we arrived we were met by the excellent waiting staff and escorted to our table and our drinks orders were made. I opted for a Chinese Tiger beer and my wife ordered a Pinot Grigio.
Whilst the drinks were being poured we wasted no time in going up to the buffet hotplates to survey the vast array of dishes on display. I decided that I wanted to load up my plate with as many different foods as possible because I didn’t want to miss out on anything. My wife looked at my plate and I could see she was excited; and she enthusiastically began loading her own plate with an array of equally tasty delights, opting for a more seafood based range. We returned to our table, and the drinks were waiting, so we sat down and started to sample all the different tastes that we had
selected. The food was sensational and we had a range of meats, seafood and vegetables all served in exotic sauces. After we had eaten everything on our plates we ordered more drinks and went back up to the buffet to select a different collection of the fantastic Chinese and Cantonese recipes. We then decided that a third trip was needed, but we had decided to switch the focus towards desserts. It was at this point we realised that we were completely stuffed and fully satisfied.
If I was to sum up the evening in one word then it would be ‘amazing’. (Reviewed By: Stephan Callear)
