e Butcher’s Kitchen By Lindsay Anson
e Butchers Kitchen opened back in February. It all started as many great ideas do, in the pub! Andy Popsys and Andy Dyke; one a butcher and the other a Cafe owner, thought what a good idea it would be to offer the quality meats and cheeses sold in the Butchers Counter - in a lovely restaurant setting next door in the old pie factory. ey set about renovating the building to create a lovely, family friendly restaurant for all to enjoy and the Butchers Kitchen was born. When we arrived we were offered a drink outside in the courtyard garden while we looked at menus which we did. e menu was exciting and clearly laid out, enough choice but not too much! Sean ordered the runny Scotch egg starter and I ordered the pate, then Sean ordered a Burger with blue cheese sauce and I had an 8oz Rump Steak, with a choice of chips, new potatoes or a jacket potato. We were asked if we wanted to dine inside or out on the terrace, we chose inside as it was nice and cool.
“
When the starters were ready we were shown to our seats, inside it was fresh, well laid out and the decor was charming with a rustic vibe. Our starters were brought out and we both said 'wow'; Sean’s Scotch egg was delicious and when he finished he said he "doesn’t want to eat a normal scotch egg ever again!' it was lovely. My pate was also beautiful, full of flavour and really meaty, the chutney was sweet and sticky.
If you love good food and drink, you really must pay a visit to Broseley, to sample the dishes on offer at the Butchers Kitchen.

e mains arrived with not much of a wait at all. My steak was cooked just as I ordered it, and came with mushroom sauce, which was really creamy and tasty. Sean said his burger was meaty and juicy, really yummy, and as for the chips, they were 'proper' chips, thick chunky well-cooked chips - perfect! We had a side of onion rings as recommended by Nicky & they were really tasty. e plates had plenty on them; they were full and so were we once we had finished! We were offered the dessert menu and were both a bit full, but we choose one each anyway - I am so glad i did! I had lemon tart and it was the best lemon tart I’ve tasted; really creamy, perfect pastry and just the right tang of Lemon. Sean had sticky toffee pudding and said it was also amazing - he was unable to finish his though!
The Butchers Kitchen Review_Double Page Editorial 25/05/2018 12:19 Page 2
Overall we both said that we were very pleasantly surprised as we didn't know what to expect, but it was definitely worth every penny and we will be going back! Alongside the food menu was an extensive drinks menu, I started with a diet coke and Sean a pint of San Miguel (he went on to have 2 more so it must have been good!). I was intrigued by the Massive choice of Gin, with one in particular singled out on the bar as the must try, this changes from time to time and is offered as their recommendation, being unsure I was guided through the Gin menu and recommended the Rhubarb & Ginger one to try with fever tree pink tonic, Nicky recommended it as a good beginners Gin, so I had one. It was lovely so now apparently - i like Gin! e 3 staff on shift were polite, welcoming, and helpful and service was prompt. If you love good food and drink, you really must pay a visit to Broseley to sample the dishes on offer at the Butchers Kitchen.

e Red House Inn by Eileen Callear
e Red House, Lilleshall is one of Telford’s best known pub restaurants. Sitting in a prominent position on the roundabout, it boasts a large car park, children’s play area and one of the best carverys in town. e pretty outside seating area is the perfect place for families to relax and take in the beautiful setting, while the kids play in the enclosed play area. We went inside and were greeted by the friendly staff, who showed us to our table. e Restaurant is very spacious, with fresh soft grey tones, pretty tartan blinds and rustic vibes – A very relaxed atmosphere with everything you need for an easy life, even the teenagers are covered with free wifi, meaning they won’t miss a snap-chat, plus contactless card payment. e Red House reopened in February, after a refurbishment, under new manager- Damian and assistant manager Dawn both of whom have years of experience. ey have built themselves a small, well trained, friendly team and a reputation for serving great quality food at really good prices. Alongside the excellent carvery, there are Pub Classics, Burgers, Steaks and Pastas & Salads. We popped up to the bar to order, for drinks there is a whole host of options like Hendricks, Beers, Wine, Pink Gin and soft drinks – we went with 1 large Pinot Grigio and a Diet Coke.
“
Who doesn’t love a carvery? With a choice of succulent roast meats and seasonal vegetables, it’s the perfect way to enjoy a fresh meal with the whole family.
“
12 Eating Out
For starters I had Chicken Wings; 10 crispy chicken wings, tossed in your choice of sauce – I went for Piri Piri. My husband Stephan had Louisiana Chicken Strips; Crispy battered chicken strips, served with a choice of sauce and both came with dressed salad garnish. For our mains I opted for one of their infamous Sunday carverys (which comes in 3 sizes – I had the small with pudding already in my mind!) and for Stephan – the 28 day-aged, seasoned and grilled, 9oz Sirloin Steak with chips, grilled tomato, onion rings and peas. e starters arrived quickly, small silver buckets of tender chicken with a generous helping of sauce. ey were piping hot and crispy, with a real lip-smacking kick courtesy of the Piri Piri sauce. Stephan’s strips were great – tender, with a lovely crispy coating and his favourite BBQ sauce. An excellent start.
The Red House Review_Double Page Editorial 25/05/2018 10:02 Page 2
e steak was ready, so I popped up to collect my carvery. e meat selection was impressive even though it was only 15 minutes from the end of service, there was pork, chicken and Irish beef to choose from – I opted for the beef, which came with all the trimmings; Yorkshire pudding, pigs in blankets, stuffing ball and a variety of veggies, plus homemade gravy. Stephan’s steak was equally as impressive; a 9oz slab of sirloin – succulent and juicy with a dollop of English mustard. e Irish beef was spot on and the gravy was amazing. e steak was tender and succulent, the mustard giving an eyewatering blast of flavour – brilliant. Pudding time, and for Stef our server recommended ‘e Ultimate Ice Cream Sundae’ with soft cookie pieces, vanilla ice cream, chocolate flavoured ice cream, chocolate sauce, Malteasers, M&M’s and Twix pieces, topped with lashings of whipped cream. She suggested we share it but Stephan was adamant he would manage it alone, and there was a Millionaires Chocolate Brownie with my name on it – after all I planned for it earlier on. Little did Stephan realise just how massive this sundae was – It was HUGE!! He looked daunted but extremely excited to take on the challenge – he set about demolishing this towering pudding and I tucked into my gooey brownie. Half way through he looked like he may be beaten but after checking that we would look out for him and ensure he didn’t slip into a diabetic coma, he got a second wind and ate till he was about to pop! e Red House are re-establishing themselves as one of the best carvery/restaurants in the area; they are even planning the return of ‘2 for £10’ on selected mains, meaning that great food at amazing prices. e staff are working really hard to build an eatery that runs like a well-oiled machine; but with a relaxed, friendliness that makes for a very enjoyable experience all round. e Red House Inn Lilleshall Wellington Road, Lilleshall TF10 9EW

On a glorious sunny Saturday Lunch time, a very special day indeed as it was the Royal Wedding. Where best to go to celebrate this, than for a family meal at a Traditional British pub for our very own Royal banquet. e Golden Ball is Ironbridge’s oldest inn and is located half way up Madeley hill on Newbridge Road in the Ironbridge Gorge. Nestled in the world English Heritage site, it is a 10 minute walk away from the worlds famous Ironbridge. Boasting, a lovely restaurant, bar, beautiful rooms and flower adorned gardens with a picturesque courtyard and ample parking – e Golden ball is most certainly a beautiful hidden gem. Whether it’s just for a drink in the lovely gardens or food - the Golden Ball caters for everyone’s needs. As we walked through, we could smell the aroma of delicious food in the air. On entering it was full of Royal well-wishers awaiting the first glimpse of Megan’s beautiful dress. We were greeted with a very warm welcome by the staff and seated at a lovely table. Boasting a fabulous setting and menu, we could not wait to try the delights cooked up by the Chef.
“
e Golden ball has a wide selection of drinks available including a variety of ales such as Town Crier, HPA, Butcombe Bitter and Exmour Ale. For Starters I chose the Squid rings with a garlic mayonnaise dip. e batter was handmade and the consistency and crunch were just simply amazing, a tasty fabulous starter that truly was light fluffy and delicious. My partner opted for the Confit of duck leg served an orange salad, succulent duck cooked to perfection with a lovely crunchy orange salad. Very enjoyable. On to the mains, I opted for Coconut & Lime Chicken served salad and sweet potato wedges. e chicken was a taste sensation; succulent & coated in a light breading, infused with delicious flavours and a crunchy texture. e sweet potato wedges complimented the chicken so well, as did the fresh lime. A delicious, flavoursome, tasty dish & presented extremely well too. My partner chose the Pan Fried Sirloin steak served with mushrooms, tomatoes, chips & a brandy and cracked pepper sauce. e steak was cooked to perfection, succulent, juicy and the sauce was delicious. e plate very soon emptied of all this gorgeous food, not a morsel was left. My Daughter Sophia-May chose the pizza and chips and salad, as all children like to have a treat on a weekend. e pizza was homemade and had a selection of ham, cheese and tomato on top of French bread. She was very happy with her lovely pizza. With a rather full tummy from all of the exquisite delights, we decided to share a pudding of Chocolate fudge cake and ice cream. e fudge cake was gorgeous surrounds by lashings of melted fudge, served with a strawberry. We were in food heaven. If you fancied taking full advantage and staying overnight to explore more of what Ironbridge has to offer, then why not book one of the four beautifully decorated suites e Golden ball have to offer and make the most of your stay. e Golden Ball has lots of space for Parties, Buffets, Funerals, Club & organisation meetings so check out their website for example menus. e Golden Ball has many enjoyable evenings on offer from Quiz nights to open Mic nights and live music evenings. Patshull Park Hotel By Luke Smith
My fiancée Ashleigh and I headed over to Patshull Park Hotel, Golf and Country Club midway between Telford and Wolverhampton, set in 200 acres of beautifully secluded Shropshire Countryside. e Hotel is situated in the grounds of Patshull Hall, with parkland designed by Capability Brown, now forming a stunning 18-hole golf course, and an ideal place for short golf breaks. Additionally, Patshull Park’s 75 acres of fishing lakes provide a superb location for relaxing fishing breaks, plus the fantastic hotel facilities make it ideal for a spa break too. As we arrived we were instantly impressed with the scenery with the huge driveway leading up to the hotel and also the terrific fishing pools. As we arrived we headed in to the Lakeside restaurant to sample the new menu on offer and we were in for a real treat. We were warmly greeted by Ashley and whisked away to our table, which was very nicely laid out in the very spacious restaurant. e first treat of the evening was visual; the view across the lake was simply stunning and we had the additional benefit of some lovely sunshine, making it a very pleasant experience.
“
e fine food is complemented a wide choice of drinks from the bar including two regular real ales and a varied and fairly priced wine list with a good selection offered by the glass.

We were handed the drink and food menus and whilst we looked at the selection of dishes on offer, we decided to have two cokes and some water for the table. You could clearly see the menu had been seasonally inspired, and there was just the right amount of choices available. For our starters I went for Beef Carpaccio with rocket and pesto oil and Ashleigh decided to go for the Baked Breaded Camembert with port and redcurrant jus. ey arrived in no time, the Beef Carpaccio was delicately sliced and well presented; you could really taste the quality of the meat, it melted in my mouth and was packed with flavour. Ashleigh’s Baked Breaded Camembert was equally impressive, the outside was perfectly cooked with a nice little crunch and the inside was gooey and oozing through the outside coating and it was a really tasty start to the evening. For our main courses, Ashleigh opted for the Slow Cooked Pork Belly with creamy mash, apple and sage puree and cider gravy. I decided to try the Pan Seared Rump of Lamb with crushed new potatoes, cranberry and rosemary red wine jus. Ashleigh said the pork belly was the best main she tasted in a very long time; the pork belly was intensely flavoured and the combination of the creamy mash and gravy made this dish truly incredible. My Pan Seared Rump of Lamb was beautifully cooked, the thick slices of meat were top quality, and the flavours were truly staggering,

accompanied with the crushed new potatoes and seasonal vegetables - this is a dish that will stick in my mind for some time to come. Although we were extremely full the temptation of the Dessert menu was too much so we decided to make the most of the evening. I went for the classic Homemade Sticky Toffee Pudding with Butterscotch Sauce and Ashleigh is a sucker for a Brownie, so she had the Hot Triple Chocolate Brownie with Vanilla pod ice cream. My Sticky Toffee was to die for, perfectly baked soft in the middle; the butterscotch sauce made this the perfect, scrumptious end to a perfect evening. Ashleigh thoroughly enjoyed her dessert too, she is a massive brownie lover and this one hit the spot perfectly. Overall we had a lovely evening at Patshull Park and would recommend to anyone, Ashley and the team are very attentive and nothing is too much trouble – making for a really great dining experience, and they clearly love what they do. We are looking forward to returning again in the near future.

e Sports Bar & Grill at Casino 36 By Luke Smith
My Fiancée Ashleigh and I headed over to Ashleigh’s home city of Wolverhampton to sample the brand new menu at the Sports Bar & Grill located at Casino 36. As soon as we entered we were instantly impressed, the décor is stunning and we were mesmerised by all of the gaming machines, glitzy lights and luxury furnishings. We were escorted to the restaurant, which was very spacious, offering both booth and table seating, we opted for a booth and snuggled in to take a look at the brand new menus. We met Ed – the Deputy Food & Drink Manager; who went through the menus and explained that all of the meat comes from the local butchers Edwards, and told us all about the changes that they are making to the menu, offering something very different from what you would expect from a casino. e recently transformed ‘e 36’ menu is full of dishes bursting with fresh ingredients, the like of which you would associate with a top restaurant and there is a good amount of options available. For starters we decided to go for the Casino 36 Nachos; their own style flour tortilla nachos, dusted with Cajun seasoning, cheese, guacamole, sour cream and salsa. I’m not particularly a huge fan of nachos normally but we went with their recommendation and we were definitely not disappointed. e nachos were sensational, not your typical tortilla chips shoved in a bowl

and covered in sauce - these were light, with a perfect crunchy texture and just the right amount of seasoning, making this the perfect starter - I even asked for the recipe as they were so good! For our main course, Ashleigh went for an 8oz Ribeye accompanied with chips, side salad and some onion rings, I decided to go for the Chicken and Chorizo Flatbread, a seasoned flatbread topped with bbq sauce, chorizo, chicken breast and red onion finished with cheddar and mozzarella cheese, grilled to melting perfection, and served with chips and with Casino 36 spicy chilli slaw. Ashleigh was really impressed with her steak, it was cooked to perfection and was very tender; melting in her mouth and the chips and onion rings were excellent. My flatbread was as impressive, the dish was bursting with flavour and something I would highly recommend. e flatbread was tasty and the BBQ sauce on top of the flatbread was tangy, with the chicken and chorizo it was the perfect combination. e spicy chilli slaw had a pleasant kick to it and again this was a fantastic dish. We decided to have the garlic and rosemary flatbread, giant garlic flatbread coated with garlic butter for extra flavour, this was again excellent and a great side dish. For dessert we decided to go for the Dessert Sharing Platter, which includes mini chocolate brownies, cheesecake bites, salted cameral profiteroles and caramel filled mini churros - all on a large platter with salted cameral and chocolate sauce, plus 2 scoops of vanilla ice-cream. We also had a Liefmans fruit beer, to wash it down. is was simply the best dessert we have ever had everything was fresh and tasty and you get that satisfying feeling of ‘having it all’ with the selection of treats. If you like dessert this is the dish for you. e beer was light and sweet and a good drink to go with the dessert. After we finished we headed down to casino for some fun. e facilities are second to none and the staff are great. Overall we had a fantastic experience at Casino 36 and in particular the restaurant is terrific. is is definitely isn’t any run of the mill restaurant - if you’re looking for somewhere to dine, this is place is for you -this restaurant is a truly incredibly culinary experience and we are looking forward to returning soon.

School’s Out For Summer!...
Summer Holiday Survival Guide
GARDEN GEMS... You would be surprised how many children love to garden. Growing some simple tomato plants or strawberries can be a really rewarding way of keeping them busy - plus they get to enjoy eating the harvest once they are ripe. Get some small trowels and forks (you can get them from the pound shops) and set aside a small ‘plot’ or even a couple of planters and encourage them to get growing.
BUILD A DEN...
Just how do you keep the kids occupied for 6 weeks?... As a parent I love the school holidays, yes - you read it correctly! I know a lot of parents dread the thought of trying to fill (and fund) a whole six weeks with interesting, fun things to do, but for me it’s so nice just not having to do the morning wake-up ritual and school runs. ere are lots of great things to do and see both locally and a little further afield, from roaming the local beauty spots like the Long Mynd to ice-skating or trampolining. You don’t even have to leave home to have fun, with the better weather comes paddling pools and super soakers which keep both big and little kids amused for hours on end. So where are the best places in and around Shropshire to visit? If you love nature and wildlife then head over to Battlefield Falconry Centre in Shrewsbury, where you can get up-close and personal with Hawks and Owls. Whilst in
30
Shrewsbury you could visit e Quarry Park or take a short drive over to Church Stretton and take in the beauty of e Long Mynd (*Dog owners beware though, as there have been some suspected cases of Alabama Rot around the Carding Mill Valley area). Oswestry is home to the British Ironwork Centre, home of the largest displays of decorative metalwork, set in glorious Shropshire countryside. It is a fab day out for the whole family. If you are looking for a museum to visit then you are in the right place. With the Ironbridge Gorge and RAF Museum Cosford on the doorstep, you will have no trouble filling your days, or you could even go to prison - Jailhouse Tours offer great guided tours of the historic Dana Prison, which is fascinating. Other great days out include Hoo Farm Animal Kingdom, Telford Town Park, Hawkstone Park Follies, Attingham Park, to name just a few - Enjoy Summer in Shropshire!
Feature | Summer Holiday Survival Guide
Even a small garden can accommodate a den. Make from a tee-pee made from bean sticks and sheets or get a small garden shed, kitted out with some bean bags, you will have to drag them back in the house come bedtime. Or set up a tent indoors for them to have a picnic or play some games in indoor camping can be great fun too.
WHAT ABOUT RAIN?... Visit a museum, library or take a train ride or there are loads of swimming pools locally, which is always a great way to spend a rainy day. Grab some rackets and a soft ball and go to the local leisure centre for a game of tennis - most councils run some really cheap rates for kids during the school breaks. If you don’t mind getting wet, put on some old clothes and wellies and go on a muddy walk - jumping in puddles is great fun.

Gin Is In.
Best Gin Around
Sloe Gin: For a perfect ready-made Gin Liqueur try this Rhubarb & Ginger Flavoured one by Edinburgh Gin it’s Amazing!
Which Gin Is e Best?...
London Dry Gin:
Dry? Craft? or maybe you like it Sloe? What ever way you like your gin, it is important to pick a decent one, so we put together some of our favourites for you to try out for yourself.
e best-known and most popular type of gin, with flowery and aromatic characteristics, which result from botanicals, mainly juniper, being added during the second or third distillation. Great for cocktails and martinis. We love Langleys Number 8 & Sainsbury’s Blackfriars Gin.
With more than 40 million bottles of Gin sold in the UK every year, according to the Wine and Spirit Trade Association, demand is high and there is a huge range of exciting brands to try, each with their own flavour and style who would have thought the humble juniper berry would cause such a stir. So which one do you choose? We feel that after slurping as many gins as we have, we can consider ourselves as experts! Ok, maybe not experts but it does make us pretty knowledgeable about such things, so let us help you to find the perfect one for you.

Feature | Gin Is In
is red liqueur is gin flavoured with sloe (blackthorn) drupes – a small relative of the plum. e traditional production method involves soaking the sloes in the gin, using sugar to ensure the sloe juice is extracted from the fruit, but many commercial sloe gins are made by flavouring cheaper neutral grain spirits. Monkey 47 Sloe Gin is my personal favourite but Sipsmith Sloe Gin is a close second.
Craft Gin: is modern type of gin uses the same distilling process as traditional gin, but is typically infused with additional flavours. Hendrick’s Gin, for me is a winner - with a clean, refreshing taste, thanks to an unusual mix of botanicals including cubeb berries, elderflower, chamomile and yarrow. If you want a solid G&T, with a floral aroma, look no further.
Pair of Giant Gin & Tonic Glasses £14.99 from e Present Finder
Old Tom Gin: A sweetened version of London dry gin, with syrup and/or citrus notes. Great for older gin cocktail recipes, including Tom Collins. Haymans Old Tom is our top pick. Tanqueray Old Tom Gin is also a pretty good though.

FIG FACTS Fresh figs, high in phytonutrients and antioxidants such as carotenes, tannins, lutein, and chlorogenic acid among others and antioxidant vitamins such as vitamin A, E, and K. Together, these compounds found in figs help scavenge harmful oxygen-derived free radicals from the body, helping to protect us from things like cancers, diabetes, degenerative diseases, and infections too - pretty cool eh?!

Kylie.
Big Celebrities Touring Locally
UK & IRELAND TOUR 21 September 2018, Genting Arena, Birmingham You can count on the fingers of one hand the number of “pop” artists who’ve lasted more than a decade, let alone more than two! In July 1987 Kylie released her first single; a remake of the 1962 Little Eva hit “Locomotion”. e song hit No.1 in Australia and remained in the top spot for seven weeks, becoming the biggest Australian single of the ‘80’s. Two decades later Kylie achieved the record for the most played female artist on UK radio over the last 20 years! Kylie Minogue released her new album ‘Golden’ back on 6th April via BMG, her first for the label. ‘Golden’ is Kylie’s first studio album in four years and her fourteenth studio album in a record breaking career. e album was mainly recorded in Nashville, which was a first for Kylie, a fact which couldn’t help but inform the sound – albeit in Kylie’s superlative pop style. e album opens with lead single ‘Dancing’, which sets the tone for what is to come on the album. Kylie says: “You’ve got the lyrical edge, that Country feel, mixed with some sampling of the voice and electronic elements, so it does what it says on the label. And I love that it’s called ‘Dancing’, it’s immediately accessible and seemingly so obvious, but there’s depth within the song.”
Minogue. Her trip to Nashville involved working alongside two key writers, both with homes in the city. One was British-born songwriter Steve McEwan (whose credits include huge Country hits for Keith Urban, Kenny Chesney and Carrie Underwood), and the other was Amy Wadge, another Brit (best known for her mega-selling work with Ed Sheeran). Kylie Minogue will bring her extraordinary creativity as a live performer back to the stage this autumn when she plays a UK and Ireland tour. Kylie, who always raises the bar with her live performances, promises a brand new extravaganza for this production which will be centred around her new album 'Golden', although of course her amazing back catalogue will also be embraced.
is record is one of Kylie’s most personal date – with every song on ‘Golden’ co-written by Tickets are on general sale from 10am 02 March 2018 via www.theticketfactory.com or by calling 0844 33 88 222 *Calls cost 7p per minute plus your phone company's access charge. Anything goes…
Guide
Festival season is in full swing, and with it comes the inevitable flower headbands, frills, sparkles and wellington boots. You can literally go to town when it comes to festival fashion. Denim shorts are a must, as are bikini tops of every description, or even swimsuits; handy for when the rain starts! Remember to layer it up, as it can drop cool on the evenings - but most importantly, have fun with it.
e Essentials… A good pair of wellington boots is a must for festival goers, wading through mud in sandals is not a great look. An anorak with a hood is also something you would be mad to be without - you know it’s going to rain, right? You won’t want to carry a massive bag around with you, so a belt bag is a great way of keeping money, phones and other essentials safe without them getting in the way of enjoying yourself. Absolutely Potty... Plant pots come in all shapes, sizes and designs. The simple addition of some large plants around the house turns boring corners of living rooms and hallways into green lushiousness. An interesting pot is a great way of making a statement, I love this Cement Style Tall Planter £55. Another lovely idea is using a Paperweave Storage Basket - From £12 - a relatively cheap option.
Real house plants are great but artificial flowers and foliage have come along in leaps and bounds, so if like me you struggle to look after house plants you can still get the look without any plants being harmed! I like this succulent style tree in cement effect pot - £12. All from Next Home

Book Worms... A black country girl who loves to read. I have heard so many great things about this book and was lucky enough to receive a copy of NetGallery for an honest review.
Georgina Jefimik
woman isn’t sexually attracted to them and wants to be just be friends?
e story follows our protagonist Izzy, ‘an aspiring comic, an impoverished orphan, and a Slut Extraordinaire’. Well, that’s what the malicious website flying around the school is describing her as. After attending a party, Izzy sleeps with two guys in one night, one happens to be the senators son and pictures of her soon start making their way around the school. Izzy has never been ashamed of herself and she isn’t going to start now. However, when everyone has seen your nude pictures and is branding you a slut, it’s kind of hard to keep her head up. Izzy is an amazing narrator. She challenges expectations and is so comfortable with her own body and sexuality and it’s really refreshing to see. Also, she has sex and isn’t afraid to tell you she actually enjoys it! *gasps*. She also is a comedic genius, and this is shown through the hilarious and witty narrative. e book is portrayed as her diary, however the added touch of Izzy’s own voice makes it almost conversational. You feel like Izzy is right there telling you her story. I think what I liked most about her is how she was fierce and strong but also vulnerable which made her so relatable.
This book deals with a lot of sensitive subjects that can be quite triggering so readers should be warned. Not only does it deal with slut shaming, male entitlement, cyber bullying and revenge porn, it also deals with the outing of a queer character without their consent. I can’t begin to understand how that must feel, however what I do know is that it should always be someone’s choice, and that choice was taken away from them. I did however, have a few issues with the book. I find it incredible how much the whole story was blown out of proportion. I was confused by the media attention the story gathered and I think the explanation of the senators son being wasn’t enough for me. I also struggled to understand why the school didn’t act upon anything that was happening. Not once did a teacher call Izzy in to discuss what had happened and next steps to take. Also, it’s effectively ‘revenge porn’, so I don’t know why the person responsible got off so easily. I get that it isn’t necessarily illegal across all of America, but surely the school should have done so much more. Also, before I finish the review, can we have a special shout out to Izzy’s grandmother and her dog Dumbledore!
is story shows how double standards still exist and how women are treated so much differently to men. Why is Izzy treated so horribly after her nude pictures are leaked, yet no one bats an eyelid when a guy’s picture is? It also deals with male entitlement and how they think that by being nice to a woman and buying her gifts means they should be entitled to more. at is literally not how it works. Why is it that some men are so offended by the idea that a
Laura Steven is an amazing author and I am so excited to read more of her work. is is one of the most honest books I have ever read. It is funny, hilarious, frustrating, heart-breaking and just all around amazing. At times, it made me uncomfortable, but I think that’s a good thing. It touched upon issues that are so relevant in today’s society. I give this book four out of five stars and will be recommending it to all my friends and family.

eXpert Gardeners Passionate About Your Garden
Gardening by the eXperts
I set up my business in 2000 because I felt that people who cared about their gardens, would like professional help that doesn’t cost the earth. We are a team of landscape gardeners who have professional gardening knowledge and are hardworking, reliable and trustworthy. We can transform and maintain any garden, large or small and we are committed to helping you achieve the garden you want. For as long as I can remember I have been passionate about gardening. I have always felt a strong connection with the natural world. After 5 years training at Horticulture College I graduated and became a professional gardener and landscape designer. During my training I spent some time in Denmark working in large gardens and also worked in the Botanical Gardens next to my college in Kracow (Poland) - Peter Sobilo
I offer all aspects of gardening including: Garden tidy-ups and clearance work, Lawn mowing and care, edging, Trimming hedges to a high standard, Path and driveway clearance, Planting, Weed control, Rose pruning, Rejuvenation of overgrown shrubs and trees, Landscaping: garden design, border development, plant selection and planting.
Testimonial
My nearly an acre of garden was sadly neglected for the best part of the year. Where to start, I was very disheartened, then by recommendation I found Peter and Lucas who have given me my lovely garden back again. They have worked miracles, pruning, dividing, replanting and preparing the vegetable garden, so that once more I can enjoy my garden. No jobs has proved too difficult, they come promptly, work hard and have real knowledge of gardening which is key to their success. – Valerie (Neachly, Shifnal)

SWIMMING... Water washes sunscreen off, and the cooling effect of the water can make you think you're not getting burned. Water also reflects ultraviolet (UV) rays, increasing your exposure. Water-resistant sunscreen is needed if sweating or contact with water is likely. Sunscreen should be reapplied straight after you've been in water – even if it's "water resistant" – and after towel drying, sweating, or when it may have rubbed off.
PROTECT YOUR EYES... A day at the beach without proper eye protection can cause a temporary but painful burn to the surface of the eye, similar to sunburn. Reflected sunlight from snow, sand, concrete and water, and artificial light from sunbeds, is particularly dangerous. Avoid looking directly at the sun, as this can cause permanent eye damage.
Sunscreen & Sun Safety... Sunburn increases your risk of skin cancer. Sunburn doesn't just happen on holiday – you can burn in the UK, even when it's cloudy. ere's not really a safe or healthy way to get a tan, and it is a myth that having a tan will help in any way to protect your skin from the sun's harmful effects. It is important to try to strike a balance between protecting yourself from the sun and getting the right amount of vitamin D from sunlight. Vitamin D is essential for healthy bones, and in the UK most people can make enough vitamin D from being out in the sun daily for short periods with their forearms, hands or lower legs uncovered and without sunscreen from late March or early April to the end of September, especially from 11am to 3pm.
70
Feature | Sun Health
It's not known exactly how much time is needed in the sun to make enough vitamin D to meet the body's requirements. is is because there are a number of factors that can affect how vitamin D is made, such as your skin colour or how much skin you have exposed. But you should be careful not to burn in the sun, so take care to cover up, or protect your skin with sunscreen, before your skin starts to turn red or burn.
Make sure you: • Spend time in the shade between 11am and 3pm • Make sure you never burn • Cover up with suitable clothing and sunglasses • Take extra care with children • Use at least factor 15 sunscreen visit www.nhs.uk for more sun safety tips.
CHILDREN AND SUN PROTECTION... Take extra care to protect babies and children. eir skin is much more sensitive than adult skin, and damage caused by repeated exposure to sunlight could lead to skin cancer developing in later life. Apply sunscreen to areas not protected by clothing, such as the face, ears, feet, and backs of hands. To ensure they get enough vitamin D, all children under five are advised to take vitamin D supplements.
DEALING WITH SUNBURN... Sponge sore skin with cool water, then apply soothing aftersun or calamine lotion. Painkillers, such as paracetamol or ibuprofen, will ease the pain by helping to reduce inflammation caused by sunburn. Seek medical help if you feel unwell or the skin swells badly or blisters. Stay out of the sun until all signs of redness have gone.

Dr. Clare Patterson
MBBS Bsc MRCP MD
Consultant Dermatologist "My simple but effective approach is personalised for you." I am a consultant dermatologist based in Shrewsbury, Shropshire. I specialise in targeted medical and cosmetic treatments which are designed to give you healthy, glowing skin. I've been in dermatology since 2001. I've worked in hospitals and clinics all over the UK. I’ve also worked in Australia, where I completed a PhD in skin cancer, but I recently decided to move back home to Shropshire to be close to family. My medical training means that I can see through all the latest skincare fads, and my friendly, informal consultations are designed to help you establish a simple and effective treatment plan that will bring your skin back into balance. I also offer a range of treatments that can firm, tone and smooth the skin, including Botox and dermal fillers. I’ll work with you to decide on the most appropriate course of treatment, so that you’ll leave looking natural and relaxed, rather than frozen or fixed. I understand the impact that problem skin can have on your self-confidence, so I offer dedicated teen skin consultations to help bring stressed, hormonal skin back into balance. My specialist paediatric training means that I’m also qualified to work with younger children who suffer from common skin conditions like eczema and psoriasis; I'm a mum myself, so I know how distressing skin irritations can be for young children and their families. I'm an experienced skin surgeon, and I'm fully-trained to remove anything unsightly or suspicious. anks to my specialist training in Australia, I have a special interest in skin cancer checks and mole removal. Many of my patients schedule annual checks; these are quick and easy, and give great peace of mind. Unlike many high street practitioners, I’m a fully trained Doctor specialising in skin, and have a through understanding of anatomy. is means that I can help you to hold back the years with BOTOX® and dermal fillers, while maintaining a natural, but refreshed, appearance.

SUMMER SUN AT NEXT... Rich and fruity, Summer Sun captures the feeling of travel; walking barefoot on white sands with the rich aroma of creamy coconut rolling off the rippling tide. A sun-drenched blend of sweet caramel and amber combined with sun-hot skin creates an endless summer scent. In short, it is the beach in a bottle - £14 (100ml).
Beauty Tips For Summer... ere are some beauty looks that remain from season to season like bold lip colours and winged eyeliners, but others that won’t cross over from winter to summer. Warmer weather brings different problems like sun burn, sweating or occasional dips in the pool on holiday. No-makeup makeup is the ultimate summer look. Start things off with a good moisturiser as you shouldn’t leave your skin unprotected without a barrier against environmental attackers like pollution and bacteria. Use something with a little added SPF to help prevent sunburn too. If you do get caught by the sun Aloe is a known anti-inflammatory, offering moisturizing relief, as well as containing antioxidants that can help repair damaged skin and prevent free radicals from doing their worst. BEACH HAIR One great tip for your hair, is to keep it wet. Before you go into the sea or the pool, give it a good soaking - this saturates the cuticle with water so less chemicals are absorbed, which will help minimise the damage to the integrity of the hair. Use a UV ray protective spray, like Aveda Sun Care Protective Hair Veil (100ml) £19.10 from fabled.com, it is a lightweight, water resistant UV defense mist that forms an invisible screen that will protect hair for up to 16 hours, and helps minimize colour fadage, damage and dryness.

Engine: 2.2 turbo diesel Top Speed: 130 mph Average fuel consumption: 40mpg Pictures: Kia.co.uk
as I shrinking? Was I getting smaller? I checked my reflection in the hall mirror. I looked the same. Or did I? Later that morning I took off to the local branch of Shirts 'R Us for a fitting. I was in the mood for a snappy pinstripe. The pleasant gentleman with a tape measure told me the truth. I was definitely not shrinking. Quite the reverse. So whatever gave me that idea?
W
Trotting out to the car park I blinked away an April shower and beheld a treat for sore eyes. A magnificent-looking car. The strains of mandolin music and Dean Martin's smooth baritone seemed to fill my ears. I was ready, willing and able to be caroused in comfort by the third generation, sportierlooking Kia Sorento: an embodiment of everything one could wish for. A seven seat SUV. Here is sunshine and sweet-smelling flowers; here is wisdom, gravity and concern; here is beauty; here is practicality, comfort and economy. Then it dawned on me. I wasn't getting smaller. It was simply that cars are getting bigger. And better I hasten to add. The evidence was right there before my very eyes in the eye-candy elegance of the Kia Sorento. Let me be frank. A car like this is not everyones cup of
78
tea. Not everyone needs a seven-seater equipped with a boot the size of Fingal's Cave, powered by a 2.2 turbo diesel pumping out near 200bhp and capable of taking you to near 130mph. Nor do they need one able to tow a Thames barge or two laden with sea coal across dry land in search of an open fire - and yet return an average of over 40mpg.(This eight speed automatic Sorento with five different drive modes and the Dynamax intelligent 4WD system with manually selectable lock mode, has a 2000kg max tow weight). Neither do they need one equal to the task of transporting The Temperance Seven with all their kit, plus a Party Seven can of Watney's Red Barrel all the way to Inverness for a knees up with the natives. No - some folk will prefer a Trabant. Take Oliver Fotheringham. He is the owner of Planchon Manor: or would be if it hadn't been flattened by developers to build affordable homes. Now dwelling in a trailer park near Weston-Super-Mare, he keeps badgering me for a visit. Heading south on the M5 and reflecting on the strange observations that the mainland appears to slope downwards from north to south and wondering at the same time if this was indeed the case or simply an effect of the Sorento's effortless motoring (perhaps elements of both) I was curious to see how Oliver was getting on.
It was a relaxing drive. A large cabin exuded the airiness associated with open moorland and big skies, encouraging a mood of comfortable alertness - as of an expert gamekeeper surveying the estate in his charge. Seldom have I experienced such a prodigious amalgam of automotive ambiance, driving position, controls, visibility and aural enhancement (courtesy of superb ICE equipment). Together this made for complete reassurance, endorsed and amplified through exemplary road manners. Here was a big car at home on the road and here was little me at home in the Kia. My ego continued to expand. Could this continue or should I visit my shrink? But who needs a psychotherapist with someone like Oliver Fotheringham to greet you at the gate? Picture not so much a silver fox but a pewter miserable exuding hippopotamus exasperation. He blinked and peered through the windscreen as though doubting that yours truly would be in something so impressive. The gate which he clung to in the manner of someone about to shut out trouble opened onto a narrow drive. Oliver took his place beside me and gave directions: but not before he had a good look around.
"What's this?" I told him. "A bit big and grand for you old chap" He said."There's one thing it isn't" I responded, "And that's dear. You could have one for £41,995- and there's a seven year warranty! Think about it. By the way, do you still have the Trabant?" Turning the corner my question was answered. There, painted in a shade of faded turquoise and peppered with hits from seagulls was the very car next to his palatially appointed park home. 'Ah well' I reflected later on my way home 'each to his own'. I patted the steering wheel. 'Take me back Kia Sorento to the land of quality and taste'.
