Hadley Under and Over 5’s Nursery and Preschool
Pictured getting ready to celebrate are: Liz Morris Lead Practitioner, Manelle, Samuel, Jakub, Amelia, Georgia and Vanessa Davies - Early Years Practitioner.
Hadley Under and Over 5’s Nursery and Preschool are preparing to celebrate their 50th birthday this year having been established at the very heart of their community since 1968.
These days it is Manager, Kerry Jones, that spearheads the day to day running of this popular Early Years setting, along with her team of dedicated and highly motivated Early Years Practitioners. Kerry has over 20 years’ experience of working in Early Years and says “Our Nursery and Preschool is a charity based provision, with a strong ethos of an allinclusive, holistic approach to learning where every aspect of a child’s development is individually nurtured. All profits made are reflected back into the provision to maintain our home from home atmosphere and enhance our children’s learning with unique experiences”.
Our settings greatest achievement are the “confident, selfmotivated, independent learners that we see off to ‘big school’, many of whom have been with us since they were babies, we are not just staff paid to do a job, early years is a vocation and all of my team have passion for being the best they can be, encouraging this in the children who they care for and as recognised by Ofsted October 2017, sharing a vision of what quality early years care and learning looks like in practice”.
Founder member of the Hadley Under and Over 5’s Nursery and Preschool is Gill Moore, who is the very bedrock of this gem in Hadley communities’ crown. Fifty years on from opening a playgroup for local children in a gym sited on Hadley playing fields, before moving to The Old School Buildings on Hadley Park Road, Gill is still at the helm as Company and Fundraising Manager and can be found rallying a loyal team of volunteers at the settings Community Charity Shop in Hadley Centre. The shop is testament to the company’s forward thinking approach that is once again evident as it takes donations of goods from the wider community, helping those with an affordable solution to their everyday needs and in turn Nursery and Preschool profit from all funds raised, an approach totally unique to Hadley Under and Over 5’s. To celebrate this milestone Golden Anniversary, Hadley Under and Over 5’s will be holding celebrations throughout the summer months, such as a traditional family fun day and BBQ and a coach trip to the seaside. Gill invites anyone with photographs or recollections of their time at Hadley Under and Over 5’s, either as a child, parent, staff member or trustee, to get in touch by phone, email or pop into our shop in Hadley and join our celebrations!

The Ugly Duckling Review_Double Page Editorial 16/02/2018 09:32 Page 1
The Ugly Duckling
The Ugly Duckling has established itself as one of the best eateries in the area, situated just on the outskirts of Telford, run and managed by Sam McNulty and Ryan Hayward, who have successfully made this place the talk of the town and for all the right reasons.
With classic Georgian design and an impressive extension to the dining area the exterior look gives a great first impression. The interior is equally as pleasing, with a contemporary modern feel and comfortable seating plan.
My Colleague Lily and I went to sample the brand new menu which has got a great selection dishes, the variation of dishes means even the most discerning clients will find something to satisfy. The starters, which include a selection of tapas, a new addition, which is great as you can have a few tapas dishes instead of a main course. If you fancied a steak then they have a very impressive meat selection where you choose exactly what you have on your plate.
We were seated in a cosy booth for the evening, which is always a favourite of mine and this alongside the very pleasant atmosphere made for a very enjoyable evening. We stuck to soft drinks, as we had driven there, but there is a massive selection of drinks from local bitters to house wines or even something sparkling if you’re out celebrating. We eagerly scanned the menus, for our starters Lily was drawn to the Rice Cracker and Asian 7 Spice (togarashi) Crusted Tiger Prawns with Japanese Dipping Sauce and I went for a classic favourite of mine; Tempura Calamari with Cantaloupe Melon, Watercress and Red Onion and Yuzu and Soy Dressing. The starters were a sensational start, the Calamari was perfect; the batter was

mouth-watering chips this was another great dish.
The dessert menu beckoned in spite of our full stomachs- Lily had the Sticky Date and Ginger Pudding with Boozy Butterscotch and Vanilla Ice Cream and I opted for the Key Lime Pie with Italian Meringue and Chocolate Soil and Coconut Ice Cream. Dessert is Lily’s favourite course and this one did not disappoint one bit, the Sticky Date and Ginger Pudding was sumptuously soft, with the butterscotch oozing out, this rounding off an incredible meal for Lily. I’m new to Key Lime Pie but after the recommendation from the waitress I was ready to give it a whirl – her advice was spot on, the meringue was fluffy and sweet, and the base of the dessert was fantastic. The coconut ice cream and chocolate soil (a light sprinkling of crumbs) were a really pleasing combination and finished things off brilliantly. The Ugly Duckling is overall an excellent choice for dining out, the staff go above and beyond to make your evening enjoyable and Ryan and the team have done a great job in creating a reputable restaurant, serving the very best quality ingredients. This one of my favourite places to visit, with regular events and rooms available. The Ugly Duckling is becoming a firm favourite for foodies from near and far and continues to deliver great quality and value for money.
perfectly cooked light and fluffy and the calamari soft and accompanied with the other interesting elements of the dish made it a truly fantastic dish. Lily was equally impressed with her Prawns, which were succulent and extra tasty with the Japanese dipping sauce – top class.
For the Main course I went for the Fish and Chips; Beer Battered Cod Fillet with Triple Cooked Chips and Pea Puree accompanied by Tartar Sauce and Lily went for the 10oz Gammon Steak, Salt Baked Pineapple with Fried Ducks Egg and Triple Cooked Chips. Put simply it was the best fish and chips ever. I had been told that the fish was fresh in that morning you - and you could tell. Everything about this dish was fantastic, great batter that was once again ‘on point’ and the triple cooked chips were to die for along with the tartar sauce and pea puree which worked impeccably together. Lily’s gammon was excellent, the quality of the meat is such an important factor in any dish here they have it perfected. This slab of succulent gammon, along with the egg and pineapple and crunchy and

Classic DISHES FOR Spring
Rhubarb
& Custard Pie Ingredients 375g Pack of Dessert Pastry 450g Rhubarb - Cut Into Small Slices 2 Tbsp Caster Sugar Juice 1 Orange For e Custard 150ml Double Cream 150ml Milk 1 Vanilla Pod, Halved 3 Free Range Eggs 85g Caster Sugar Zest of 1 Orange
Halloumi & Veg Skewers Ingredients 225g Lighter Halloumi, Cubed 2 Red Peppers -Cut Into Bite-Size Pieces 8-10 Small Shallots, Peeled Baby Plum Tomatos 2 Tbsp Freshly Squeezed Lemon Juice 60Ml Olive Oil Chopped Fresh Mint
Method
1 - Spear the halloumi, peppers, shallots and tomato, alternating each, onto skewers (if using wooden skewers soak them for 30 minutes first to prevent burning). Arrange in a shallow dish and set aside.
2 - Whisk together the dressing ingredients. Drizzle most of the dressing over the skewers and turn to coat. Marinate for 10 minutes.
3 Heat a griddle pan over a medium heat and cook the skewers for 4-5 minutes, then turn and cook for a further 3-4 minutes, until the vegetables start to soften and char around the edges. Remove carefully – and drizzle over the remaining dressing.
Method 1. Heat oven to 190C/170C fan/gas 5. Roll out the pastry to around the thickness of £1 coin and place in a 23cm tart tin. Cut a round of baking paper bigger than the tin and place in the tin with baking beans on top. Bake for 15 mins, then remove the beans and bake for a further 10-15 mins until lightly golden. Remove the tart from the oven and turn the oven down to 160C/140C fan/gas 3. 2. Prepare the filling whilst the tart bakes. Simply heat the rhubarb, caster sugar and orange juice gently in a small pan for 8-10 mins until softened. Remove from the heat and leave to cool slightly while you prepare the custard. 3. Heat the cream, milk and vanilla pod in a small pan and bringing to the boil. Whisk the eggs and sugar in a separate bowl. When the cream mix reaches boiling point, pour it over the eggs while still whisking, then pour the mix through a sieve into a jug and add the orange zest. 4. Once the tart case is cooked, layer the rhubarb over the bottom of the case and pour the custard on top. Place the tart in the oven and cook for 30-35 mins until the custard is just set. Remove from the oven and leave to cool completely before cutting into slices.

UK ARENA TOUR 3 & 4 April 2018, Genting Arena
After rising to fame in October 2012 when he was featured on Disclosure’s breakthrough single “Latch”, Sam Smith got his first taste in the number one slot in May 2013, when he susequently featured on Naughty Boy’s single “La La La”.
Throughout 2016, Sam Smith released teasers with footage of himself in the studio working on new music, leading up to the release of his second studio album. In early 2017, it was reported that Smith would be releasing his second album in September 2017 and had recorded with constant collaborator Jimmy Napes and Naughty Boy. In April 2017, he was said to have been in studio sessions with classical crossover group Clean Bandit, working on a possible "comeback single". Along with the group, record producer Timbaland and musician Frances have said they have worked on songs for his upcoming album.
‘Too Good At Goodbyes’, the first single off the new album, saw global success hitting #1 in the UK and Global Spotify Charts, #1 in the UK and US iTunes charts and entering the official UK charts at #1 making it Smith’s sixth UK number one single.
Sam gave fans a taste of the new album during a series of intimate shows in London,

of charge, with no obligation. High quality illustrated catalogues from previous auctions will be given away on a complimentary basis in order for the public to get a better idea of the services available.
We recently broke the British record for a Rolex Submariner watch sold at auction. On 11th October 2017 we sold an example made c.1964 with orange numerals for nearly £280,000 including premium. This achievement was reported in the national media. The owner consigned the watch to auction at one of our valuation events in the east of England. Many other star items have turned up at our events.
Some special antiques and collectables valuation events will be taking place soon in your area. The experts of Lockdales Auctioneers will be providing free valuations to the public on Wednesday 14th March at Oswestry Cricket Club between 11.00am-3.00pm and on Friday 16th March, 10am to 2pm at The Hadley Park House Hotel, Hadley Park East, Telford, Shropshire, TF1 6QJ, free car parking on-site subject to availability.
Another interesting watch consigned to one of our auctions was a Rolex Explorer wristwatch, specially made for Sir Edmund Hillary and his team of mountaineers in 1953; those who famously made the first ascent of Mount Everest. The watch sold at auction for over £27,000 which was a world record for the type.
We currently also hold the world record for a Women's Social and Political Union (Suffragettes) Hunger Strike medal sold at auction, being that of Mary Aldham (aka Mary Wood) who slashed the portrait of Henry James at the Royal Academy Exhibition in 1914, and caused a riot. We sold her medal and various personal effects on behalf of the owner for £23,450 including premium.
Our highest result for a single item so far was £113,000 (including premium) for the linocut print “Speed Trial” by Cyril Edward Power, at the time a world record for the artist.
There will be experts providing valuations on the following types of collectables: Coins (including British & World, sovereigns, Krugerrands, Royal Mint commemoratives & proof sets), stamps, banknotes, medals & militaria, antiques, clocks, watches, jewellery, gold, silver, pre1900 documents/books & maps, cigarette-cards, postcards, pre-1960 sporting programmes & tickets, pens, vintage toys, vintage comics, scientific instruments, swords, bayonets, deactivated and antique firearms. No appointment is necessary at this event, simply turn up with your items and the valuers will be happy to see you.
Members of the public will have the option, if they wish, to consign their goods to auction (subject to terms & conditions). Cash purchase offers are also available. Valuations will be provided free
These examples are some of the most exceptional we have ever dealt with, but we are more than happy to give advice on collectables at any level, they don’t have to be worth a fortune. We look forward to meeting the public in Shropshire. If you have any questions feel free to contact Lockdales’ Martlesham offices: 01473 627110, sales@lockdales.com. e Anorak…
You can go ahead and breathe a great big sigh of relief, because with Winter being finally over, the days of having to compromise style for warmth, or functionality are finally over. Building on the latest ‘athleisure’ craze, that seems to be everywhere at the moment, designers have chosen the anorak as the latest outerwear ‘must have’ item for this Spring. ere is no longer an excuse for not being able to look stylish, whilst being appropriately dressed for the weather.
e Punk… Punk inspired clothing is well and truly ready for a comeback, and it could well be this season! We may be seeing more and more of this look in future seasons too. Desingers like Prada and Balenciaga are leading the way with leopard and fishnet. Other major trends for spring include classic 60’s florals, feathers and sheer fabrics, so if you are not ready to let your punk rocker side out, there are plenty of alternative trends for you to choose from.

Presenting, Pantone's 2018 Color of the Year: "Ultra Violet," a spiritual, cosmic purple that communicates originality, ingenuity and visionary thinking that points us toward the future. So after confronting her now ex fiancé, best friend and breaking I Heart New York the grooms hand, she grabs her stuff, goes to the airport and catches the next flight out to New By Lindsey Kelk York. With no friends, no money and no job, her taxi drops her off at the nearest hotel where we are introduced to hotel receptionist Jenny, who turns out to be the fairy godmother of all friends that Angela never knew she needed. Cue a complete makeover, a lot of spending in Bloomingdales, alcohol, and a beautiful Marc Jacobs bag, and Angela is well on her way to getting her life back on track. She is also able to secure her dream job of being a writer, even better that she gets to blog about her New York adventure. However, she now finds herself in a dilemma, and one she has never had to worry about before when not one, but two cute guys are vying for her attention. Can Angela navigate her new, crazy life in New York and figure out which man is right for her? Is she beginning to heart New York more than home? Once I got past how unrealistic the book felt, I was able to really dive into the story and enjoy it for what it is. A funny and refreshing chick flick. Our heroine Angela is completely charming and relatable (if a little naïve). What I admired most about her is her courage for getting on that plane and getting as far away from home as possible. Let’s face it, how many times have we all wished we could do just that? Lindsey Kelk is fantastic at creating atmosphere and provides an amazing introduction for those, like myself, who have never been to the big apple. Her descriptions of famous places such as Times Square and the Empire State building, the many shopping trips to designer stores in the city and her take on American food has me longing to visit New York. In fact, I am currently sat here contemplating booking a ticket as we speak!
I loved seeing how our heroine developed throughout the book. She grew into such a confident person and I know all of you will be rooting for her right through to the very end. I won’t spoil which guy she ends up with, but I was very happy with the choice! inally, can we all just take a moment to appreciate the sexy, fashionable and slightly over the top character that is Jenny? She is the friend that we all long for. Someone who will stand by you through thick and thin yet also tell you when you’re being a complete idiot. I think everyone needs a Jenny in their life. I Heart New York is a fun and fresh romantic read. It’s definitely one you would take on holiday. What’s even better is, this is the first book in a series of seven. If like me, you love a good chick flick, this book is perfect for you, especially if you’re a fan of Sophie Kinsella’s ‘Shopaholic’ series. I’d rate this book 4/5 stars and I can’t wait to read the next in the series. By Georgina Jefimik

Make your home allergy - free this spring... Allergy Help...
First step - see your GP...
If you think you have an allergy, you should go to see your GP. They will determine if it is an allergic reaction and offer advice and treatment to help manage your condition. If your allergy is particularly severe or they are unsure of what is causing the allergic reaction, you may be referred to an allergy specialist for more tests and advice.

Avoiding the allergen is always the best way to manage your allergy...
S
pring can be tough...
especially if you are prone to allergies.
As you are likely to be preparing to set about the spring clean in your home, it’s a great time to look at your routine to see if you can make a few changes to help create a healthier environment, so you and your family can breathe more easily. Washing windows, cleaning cupboards and overall freshening up are typical but what can help with seasonal allergies? Read on to discover how to tackle reducing sources of allergies in your home! Many people suffer from allergies, and while most of us tend to link sneezes caused by pollen to the spring and summer seasons, the fact is lots of allergens lurk in our homes all year round. So, on the threshold allergies busy season, let's take a look around indoors to find some of the problems and see what can be done about them. Symptoms are generally mild but can be more severe for some, mainly they are frustrating like runny noses and itchy eyes, but some allergic reactions can be life threatening. There's no
real cure for allergies, at best we can ease the symptoms and take steps to eliminate the causes. Bedrooms are top of the list for most household allergens. To lessen the problems avoid storing items under the bed, which collect dust, and remove books and clutter that can attract mould spores. Wash pillows every two weeks and use non-allergenic coverings on mattresses and pillows. Also get your duvet cleaned regularly. Vacuum your mattress frequently, to remove dust mites. Make your bedroom a pet free zone. Elsewhere in the home, replace carpet with wood flooring and tiles if possible. Don’t use heavy drapes or venetian blinds. Remove houseplants to reduce pollen. Use a vacuum cleaner with an airtight dust container like the Miele Compact C2 Allergy vacuum cleaner or one of the new Dyson range that help reduce allergens. Avoid aerosol based cleaning products – they're easily inhaled. Dyes and chemical additives can also spark a reaction. If you child has allergies, make sure you tell the school. And if anyone in your family, including yourself, is prone to severe allergic reactions, use a medical identity bracelet to alert others who may be involved in helping or treating you/them.
But there are some effective ways of managing an allergy which will help control symptoms. Antihistamines help stop the reaction occurring and decongestants will help for a blocked nose. Steroid medications like sprays, drops and creams can help reduce redness and swelling caused by an allergic reaction.
Hay Fever Prevention
Exposure to animals in early life?
Allergic rhinitis, also known as hay fever, is a type of inflammation in the nose which occurs when the immune system overreacts to allergens in the air. It is thought that people who are exposed to animals in their early years are more likely to develop Allergic rhinitis with onset usually occurring between the age of 20-40.
Nut allergy...
Some peanut allergy symptoms can be quite violent and unpleasant. However, they might not represent a serious health risk. Some common symptoms include: swollen lips or tongue. wheezing. diarrhoea. stomach cramps. nausea. vomiting. swollen face or limbs. A GP can arrange testing if a nut allergy is suspected. An NHS allergy clinic will use blood tests or skin prick tests to help make a diagnosis.

the qualifications, but are in fact very poorly qualified in comparison. Some with a distant learning course, part time by post! When looking for a podiatrist in Telford or Shrewsbury, ensure that you are visiting a well educated and skilled healthcare professional.
Why use General Podiatry Treatments? Podiatry is very important, in the health of the population, as without your feet you can not walk! Staying active and mobile is important. Suffering and pain is often easily remedied. Of course Rheumatoid arthritis, Diabetic foot treatments are all important. But even the healthiest sports person can be incapacitated by athletes foot that becomes infected with bacteria, the healthiest pensioner can end in hospital with infective arthritis to the knee or ankle, after a simple corn becomes infected. I have patients, that have lost a limb due to these complaints! Worryingly, they were fit and healthy in all other aspects. Whether you need callous reduced and dry heels cured, corns removed, verrucae treated or ingrown nails removed in Telford, Newport, or Shrewsbury Shropshire - Call for an appointment sooner rather than later. I offer fair fees and high quality, gentle treatment. If it is a foot, ankle or leg complaint then The Foot Doctor can help. To find out more visit www.TheFootDoctor.co.uk or call Steven Dowdeswell on 01952 677063 and take the first step to solving your foot and heel pain.
M
any people suffer needlessly with simple, often superficial foot complaints....
I often mention to my patients, some of whom travel many miles to visit me, that a corn, hard skin or ingrowing toenail can be far more painful than any of the more "serious" complaints that I deal with each day. It is here that well skilled Professional Podiatry can assist as a routine and often regular treatment.
As a HCPC registered podiatrist and holder of a BSc (Hons) Pod Med, all of your foot complaints can be easily and comfortably treated. I hold full licence to issue antibiotics for nail and foot infections, as well as a high degree of skill in using local anaesthetic and steroid injections, to numb and make your treatment painless if required. In reality, this is rarely required! All clinical equipment is Vacuum Autoclaved, after thorough Ultrasonic cleansing, to provide the best in patient protection. Using the latest spray drill technology, your treatment and hard skin, is reduced quickly and perfectly every time. A podiatry treatment is thorough and addresses all medical conditions of the foot and ankle, this is not a buffing or low grade treatment, as offered by beauticians and the poorly qualified practitioners that tend to operate outside of the regulated healthcare environment. Chiropodist or Podiatrist - What is the difference? Podiatry is the modern term for professionals that also undertake routine medical based treatment of the foot and ankle. Be sure to check that your podiatrist has a full 3 year BSc Hons In Podiatric Medicine, for the Gold standard in Foot and Ankle treatment. This is a 3 year full time Science degree and requires dedication and significant training by the NHS and University to complete. Surprisingly, many of the those in the foot health market have many letters to accompany

Fun, Fitness & F riendship...
My name is Kim and I am local fitness instructor in & around Telford. Dance & fitness has always been a passion of mine for as long as I can remember. At school & college I studied dance and performed in shows and competitions around the country.
After leaving college I then went onto training to become a fitness instructor through an apprenticeship scheme in a gym and worked my way up to management. Having not being the most confident person and suffering from an anxiety/panic disorder from a young age, fitness & dancing is always something that instantly uplifts me & many others will feel the same after finishing a class . Being a freelance fitness instructor was always a dream of mine, to be able to help others feel better about themselves through what I love doing seemed like a no brainer! I just had to do it! So, through lots of hard work and determination, I made it happen! I love meeting new people and helping them along on their journeys! It feels amazing to know that my classes help so many people with whatever goal they want to achieve whether that be weight loss, fitness, stress busting, confidence or even just making new friends. I currently teach Clubbercise dance fitness which is an amazing concept for people who feel a bit more self-conscious, however my classes are for everyone whether you are a complete beginner to a fitness fanatic and we create a friendly, welcoming atmosphere for everyone. PRESCRIPTION ORDERING
Shropshire pharmacist warns residents not to fall foul of the new prescription ordering service.
Challenge Yourself -For Hope House Hope House are looking for energetic people to sign up to their sporting fundraising events as part of Team Hope House in 2018. The children’s charity are backing a range of events from half marathons, aquathons and triathlons as well as organising their popular annual Cycle Challenge and their brand new Snowdon Trek.
H
First out of the blocks is Chester Half Marathon and Shrewsbury Aquathon on April 29 followed by various other half marathons including Lake Vyrnwy and North Wales half marathon and the popular Shrewsbury Triathlon. Challenges are subject to registration fees and minimum sponsorship for each event entered. In return supporters will receive their free Hope House running vest, fundraising pack and support up to and on the day. If supporters have already registered for these events or wish to register for an event not listed, they can still become part of Team Hope House by committing to raise minimum sponsorship.
The first ever Hope House one day Snowdon Trek will take you to the summit of the highest mountain in England and Wales, Mount Snowdon, on Sunday July 1. The trek will follow the most popular route to the summit, the Llanberis Trail, with a team of experienced mountain guides, guiding you along the route at check in points. Registration is £20 plus £100 sponsorship per person (to include free t-shirt).
The annual Hope House Cycle Challenge reaches its 10th anniversary in 2018 and will take place on Sunday August 5. The popular ride will be going back to its original two scenic routes – 56 miles to Lake Vyrnwy and 72 miles to Bala Lake. Cyclists will be treated to a snack stop at a Half Way Feed Station and a delicious home-made feast of cakes and savouries at the end. Cyclists can register for the early bird price of £25, on the day entry will be available at £35.
Every week 3 local families face their biggest fear and their child dies, tragically Hope House can only afford to help 1. It is only with your support that Hope House can be there for every mum, dad, brother and sister who needs them so please challenge yourself in 2018 and help them ensure no family faces the death of a child alone.

A new way of ordering repeat prescriptions which has been in place in Telford for a year is now being rolled out across the rest of Shropshire - and one pharmacy boss is urging people to leave plenty of time to get their order.
Ian Swindell, pharmacist at Lunts Pharmacies in Shrewsbury, Craven Arms and Pontesbury, said the new Prescription Ordering Direct service can vary from surgery to surgery. He said: “The service can be very effective. However it can differ from surgery to surgery - sometimes an order can be signed off by doctors and the prescription be at the pharmacy within minutes. Sometimes it takes 48 hours - and then the pharmacy may have to order the medication in. The prescription will always be ready within 48 hours, however the medication may not be. I would urge people to order their repeat medication a week before they run out, to ensure it will definitely be there ready to pick up.” The service, which is used by seven medical practices across Telford, will be rolled out across surgeries around the rest of Shropshire over the coming months.
Lunts Pharmacies will still continue to dispense and deliver prescriptions as normal. Customers will simply need to follow the advice given out by their surgery. “Essentially not much will change for customers,” Mr Swindell said. “It is more of a change in the system behind the scenes and we want to warn customers that the extra layer of administration introduced could cause a delay to the ordering process”.
“Please be aware and leave plenty of time to ensure you do not run out of vital medication.” For more information about Lunts Pharmacies visit the website https://lunts.net/ or call 01743 232857.

audio entertainment courtesy of Bowers and Wilkins - the definitive masters of audio art. And because it's a Volvo, of course, you'll never be in safer hands when it comes to braving the bustling highways.
t was a misty morning; not quite cold enough for frost. An antipodean used to baking in the heat of breakfast time would have reached for a woolly jumper. As for me, I had spring in my step. I'd already spotted my chariot waiting on the drive. Quick as a camera flash, I got myself ready for action. Skip breakfast? Why not? I knew a place down the road where the coffee was hot and the bacon sizzled on the grille plate. On my way out I scooped up the keys. The Volvo XC60 would soon be divulging its secrets.
I
My brain began to string together phrases - each word beginning with the letter V. Once started I couldn't stop. 'Vapour veil vexes visibility'... That means it was misty. 'Valorous Volvo vanquishes vagueness'....That means the Volvo stood poised in purposeful fashion ready to do business. 'Verily the vehicle for versatile velocity and verified vitality'....But enough of vain verification! Here was the very latest smooth XC60 - a 4wd, modestly magnificent premium sector SUV replete
with every additive possible at the price of ÂŁ50,230 (With all the extras), resulting in an irresistible promise of many smiles per mile. This is the car that has just been named 2017-2018 'Car of the Year' - in Japan of all places! One of the safest Volvos ever made, It's fully loaded with new technology and is rated overall safest car in Euro NCAP testing, underlying Volvo's lead in automotive safety. I can tell you from experience that even if you have nowhere to go, you just have to go somewhere - if only to relish the invigorating attributes of this 'hell of a good car' that will take some beating. Before setting off I had just enough time to sweep the luxurious interior with admiring eyes before settling down on seats that do not stint when it comes to cosseting in the top notch quality cabin. Soon, thanks to Volvo's Sensus connectivity and entertainment technology, I was enjoying the ultimate
Depressing the throttle uplifted the heart as the 190bhp 2.0 litre diesel, driving through the 8 speed automatic gearbox, encouraged the XC60 to lead me all the way to 130 mph (If I had wanted to and the law had allowed) in smooth and silent fashion even in 'comfort' mode, and in a style as refined as the Duke of Debonair and as irresistible as the Duchess of Desire. In sport mode responsiveness and handling sharpen up even more to make you feel full of the joys of safe performance. Should you wish to venture off-road you select 'off road' and the ride height rises. At the same time you're gifted with thrifty fuel consumption of a claimed 55.4 mpg. It all adds up to a persuasive verdict summed up in one word. Volvo. 'Voluminous Volvo validates virtuous values....' I was at it again.'If only' I thought, 'I were myself as refined as the XC60 then the world would take notice.
A-Class Edit_Full Page Bleed New 09/02/2018 10:18 Page 1
New A-Class. Dramatic exterior styling. A radical new interior. Semiautonomous driving capabilities. And a revolutionary infotainment system that will change the way you interact with your vehicle. The new A-Class has arrived, completely redefining luxury.
Showcasing the latest Mercedes-Benz design, the new AClass appears more agile and assertive than ever. With a diamond radiator grille that widens at its base, and eyecatching LED headlamps, it not only looks sensational, but also offers class-leading aerodynamic performance, boasting a drag coefficient value of 0.25.
But it’s the game-changing interior of the A-Class that will really stop you in your tracks. Combining cutting-edge technology with a bold new look and feel, it features a freestanding widescreen cockpit display incorporating a touchscreen interface. Replacing a conventional instrument cluster, this forms the centrepiece of the intuitive new MBUX infotainment system, which debuts on the A-Class.
Meanwhile, distinctive styling elements include the eyecatching, turbine-style air vents, which can be optionally illuminated in a wide range of colours. With significantly more cabin space than its predecessor, the A-Class offers more room for you and your luggage too.
The new A-Class is available with a range of technologies that were previously the preserve of luxury vehicles. These include advanced driver assistance systems that maximise comfort and safety, even enabling semi-autonomous driving in certain situations. Optional extras including augmented reality navigation, where the map display is overlaid with useful information like house numbers will help you reach your destination whilst the innovative head-up display ensures your eyes are always on the road. You can even specify front seats with seat climate control, multi-contour support and massage function. As for performance, the AClass has a choice of new petrol and diesel engines, each balancing impressive power with outstanding efficiency.
e wait is over. World premiere in Amsterdam. Mercedes-Benz celebrated the world premiere of the new AClass in Amsterdam. Against a modern setting with a festival atmosphere more than 450 invited guests experienced the new benchmark in the compact class.
With the A-Class, the brand introduces the new highlight MBUX – Mercedes-Benz User Experience – first in the compact class rather than the luxury class. This underlines: the A-Class is more mature and comfortable than ever before. Technologically, it is not only the new MBUX infotainment system that sets it apart from the competition – it also offers a range of safety and driver assistance systems that were previously reserved for the luxury class. This also applies to the redesigned appearance. The purist, surface-emphasised design is the next step in the design philosophy of sensual purity.
“The A-Class has been a big driver of change at Mercedes-Benz. It is the single best example on how we managed to rejuvenate our entire brand”, says Dieter Zetsche, Chairman of the Board of Management of Daimler AG and Head of Mercedes-Benz Cars. “There’s not much of an ‘entry-level’ feel left in our new entrylevel car. This grown-up A-Class fully incorporates our definition of ‘Modern Luxury’. And it’s unparalleled in this segment.”

J
aguar has announced a range of enhancements to its FPACE performance SUV. The 2018 Model Year updates see the debut of Jaguar Land Rover’s latest Ingenium engines and new convenience and safety features introduced.
The changes broaden the appeal of the FPACE with an all-new 250PS four-cylinder Ingenium petrol engine available alongside a high-output 240PS diesel powerplant. In addition, F-PACE benefits from an efficient new E-Performance diesel derivative promising CO2 emissions as low as 126*g/km. The 250PS 2.0-litre four-cylinder Ingenium petrol engine uses Jaguar Land Rover’s aluminium-intensive design to provide excellent thermal properties and lightweight construction for improved efficiency and enhanced vehicle dynamics. Extending customer choice is a hallmark of the 2018 Model Year enhancements, alongside comfort and convenience
enhancements. This approach sees the introduction of new multi-adjustable 20way front seats as an option in the F-PACE Portfolio variant, which deliver heightened comfort. Dual View technology is introduced, allowing the driver and front passenger to view different infotainment displays using the central 10-inch touchscreen display. The clever InControl technology is available when Touch Pro is specified and allows the driver to follow satellite navigation instructions while the passenger uses the same display to view USB or TV outputs. Jaguar takes pride in the safety credentials of its vehicles and F-PACE features a pair of new technologies for 2018 Model Year. Forward Traffic Detection is designed to assist when forward visibility is restricted. Fitted as part of the Surround Camera System, the new safety feature detects items crossing the path of the vehicle and provides a visual warning on the central screen when a potential hazard is detected. Forward Vehicle Guidance, which is also
part of the Surround Camera System, helps drivers to place the vehicle when completing low speed manoeuvres. Working in conjunction with the front parking sensors the system provides a visual representation of the vehicle overlaid with wheel projections showing the alignment of the steering. Drivers can see the parking distance reading on the central screen, taking the stress out of tight manoeuvres. Visual changes are restricted to a revised colour palette and the introduction to the options list of the distinctive contrasts and finishes originally available on the 15spoke 22-inch alloy wheels fitted to the exclusive First Edition models. As of 2018 Model year, S vehicles also feature a dual tone Light Oyster/Ebony interior colourway and a wider range of interior finishes are available across the rest of the range.
