Coal Grill & Bar Coal Grill & Bar is one of the newest, exciting additions to the Southwater complex in Telford. We were thrilled to have the opportunity to go and enjoy an evening out and try some of the delights that they have on offer. We were welcomed by Katarina, who took us to our table and offered us some drinks from the fantastic cocktail menu, being the designated driver I was really pleased to see that there were non-alcoholic Apple Mojito’s made with lime juice, sugar and mint with a healthy serving of apple juice over crushed ice and charged with soda, my hubby Stef was eyeing up a rather impressive sounding Frozen Black Irish, vodka, kahlua, baileys blended with vanilla ice cream –Yum! We browsed the starters menu, which had lots of tasty options but I decided that some Garlic & Chilli Olives - pitted olives marinated in garlic chilli and red onion, would get things going a treat, along with some Spicy Tiger Prawns in a tomato, garlic, chilli and white wine, served with bread. Stef fancied the Duck Pâte - smooth pâté, slices of toast and caramelised red onion chutney. Whilst sipping away on our gorgeous cocktails, we enjoyed taking
in the relaxed, chilled vibe and contemporary décor, which has been carefully thought out to the last detail. The seating plan is very comfortable and each table seems to be cosy, giving a good level of privacy, allowing diners to enjoy their meals, and each other’s company.
The Hype Review In no time at all the starters arrived, I couldn’t wait to try the prawns – they looked amazing, but they tasted even better. They were plump and juicy, oozing with flavour and the tomato, garlic and chilli was really tasty and there were some good chunks of chilli which gave it a real kick too! Stef tucked into his Duck Pâte enthusiastically, it is one of his favourite starters
and this one does not disappoint, he said it was really full of flavour and perfectly finished with the chutney. The starters definitely wet our appetites and we were looking forward to the main event, which we had chosen from the extensive main menu. Coal’s signature dish is Firesticks - Flame-grilled skewers of prime meat and fish served on a hot skillet with fire roasted sweet peppers, tangy tomato sauce, fresh courgettes, mushrooms, chilli and red onions, accompanied by Coal’s rice (although you could have Chips or Gratin Potato) - which I decided were a must to try and Stef asked the advice of Katarina, who pointed out Coal’s Combo Platter chargrilled rump steak, grilled chicken breast, Cajun pork medallion, topped with onion rings and a side of Coal-slaw, which sounded right up his street. The mains arrived in all their glory, the Combo Platter looked fantastic with a generous slab of rump steak and a tender chicken, along with the crispy onion rings and crunchy Coal-slaw were a winning combination. The Firesticks were simply magnificent, I had chosen one Chicken Breast And

Chorizo and one Prime Chargrilled Beef Rump – there are also Spicy Paprika Pork & Cumberland Sausage or Succulent Seared Tiger Prawns available though. The large chunks of steak were cooked beautifully and were so tender they melted in my mouth, as were the chicken, chorizo and vegetables, you can’t beat that chargrilled taste! We were getting very full but had taken special care to ensure that the desserts would not be left out. There are a few to choose from but the winners were Coal’s Banana Split, served with butterscotch and vanilla ice cream for Stef and Mixed Berry Brûlée topped with caramelised sugar. It was certainly the perfect end to a perfect meal, the crispy sugar top cracked to reveal creamy Brûlée and sweet juicy berries – simply delicious and Stef’s banana split was just as scrumptious! We had a really great time at Coal Grill & Bar, Sarah, the manager and her team made us really welcome, with service which is second to none. The restaurant has a lovely atmosphere and comfortable feel but best of all the food is first class! Coal – burning bright in Southwater!

All You Can Eat At Jenko’s!
My husband Stephan and I were really looking forward to our first ‘Mongolian Experience’ at Jenko’s, we had heard great things about Jenko’s and it sounded right up our street! We were instantly impressed with the stunning ‘Log Cabin’ that is nestled at the rear of The Compasses, which was twinkling with lights, making a beautiful setting to start the evening. We entered and were greeted by the friendly staff who showed us to our table and offered some cocktails to get things going! There is a great selection of drinks available but we opted for Yak’s Milk which is made with Bailey’s Irish Cream – Yum!
We were also given the starters menu which has a good selection from Garlic Mushrooms, Crispy Calamari and Gammon Steak to Mongolian Skewered Mutton Kebabs - A special combination of minced lamb delicately flavoured with herbs and spices, served with a sweet chilli dip, which is what Stef and I chose. The restaurant is beautiful and warm with soft lighting, which melts over the wooden beams making a glorious yellowy glow, it feels relaxed and comfortable. The starters arrived really quickly and looked amazing! With a little Yak’s Milk to wet our appetites we tucked in, the mutton was really juicy, it was really tasty and perfectly
finished with the spicy sweet chilli dip giving it a hot kick – we were both really impressed and couldn’t wait to give the main course a whirl! Jenko’s Mongolian is a very unique experience and YOU get to be the chef where the main course is concerned, choosing from delicious fresh and tasty ingredients which are cooked by the speciality chefs, in front of your eyes! It is perfect for vegans & vegetarians and you can try as many dishes as you want, have fun and experiment with a combination of flavours, all sear cooked to your liking. There is a selection of meat and fish, which include Chicken, Rump Steak,

Pork, Chorizo, along with a huge selection of vegetables, such as onions, beansprouts, mushrooms, olives, sweetcorn, tomato, peppers, the list goes on and on! Then there is a selection of herbs & spices and finally some different sauces to ladle over your dish - The sauces are the secret of Mongolian cooking as they add moisture, allowing the meal to cook properly, tenderise and add distinctive flavours to your dish and for best results you should put two ladles of sauce over your food. They have some handy ideas for recipes on the wall to help out too, then you simply hand it to the chefs who work their magic! The meat will be sear cooked in the traditional mongolian way to retain essential nutrients, then just help yourself to rice, pasta or noodles to complete your meal! My recipe was: Chicken, Rump Steak, Red Onions, Mushrooms, Beansprouts and tomatoes – with Garlic, Fajita Seasoning and a ladle each of Tomato and Chilli sauces. We also had a side order of Garlic Bread, gorgeous chips (some of the best I’ve ever tasted!) and an amazing Feta Salad, with Olives and Sundries Tomato. It was totally amazing, oozing with flavour and so juicy, I was thoroughly hooked, plus best of all it was really healthy. Stef and I both managed a couple of visits to try different

options and were beginning to feel extremely full! However, our dessert stomachs still had some room for a sweet and looking down at the menu I knew exactly what I was going to try - Yurt Pavlova with Raspberry & served on a combination of meringue, fresh whipped cream and a special sauce – all in the shape of a Mongolian yurt (that’s a traditional hut) and when the dessert arrived it was HUGE, I tucked in enthusiastically and it was stunning, with the crunchy meringue and cream, along with a blast of Raspberry - it’s a match made in heaven. Stef had spotted one of his favourite sweets - Sticky Toffee Pudding with treacle toffee sauce with custard, which he really enjoyed, he said it was really satisfying and finished the meal off a treat. Jenko’s is a must try for all the family, The food is excellent, the staff are brilliant and friendly. You get to choose all the ingredients which is fantastic and you will certainly not leave without a full tummy - We can’t wait to go back! All you can eat prices are: Adults £17.50, Children £8.95, Steak, Chips & Salad - £17.50 & Steak & Mongolian BBQ £24.50

PONDICHERRY IRONBRIDGE
On a typically cold, British January Saturday evening, my partner and I ventured into the inviting warmth of Pondicherry. Set in the historic picturesque valley of Ironbridge the iconic old police station provides a true taste of India, Perfect for warming with some fine Indian cuisine.
Arriving at this contemporary Victorian gem we were greeted by Babs and the very welcoming team and shown into the stylish bar area where we were offered a choice from the extensive drinks menu, with a range of highquality bottle beers, ciders, spirits and wines, there is also an exciting choice of champagnes fit for any special occasion or event. After a glass of delicious Pinot Grigio blush cielo, from Italy, we were escorted by a very helpful waiter Tim upstairs to the restaurant and seated at a candlelit table, this large open plan room still holds the charms of the buildings history, with high ceilings, Victorian windows and beautiful décor, with a very contemporary stylish twist. The restaurant was full with both intimate couples sharing starters to larger tables of families & friends with children. The full restaurant provided a vibrant atmosphere with the smell of delicious food providing a sensory delight. After finally making our choices from the mouth-watering menu based on faithful favourites and eavesdropping on neighbours delicious looking choices, the attentive
waiter took our order and within moments returned with Poppadoms and an array of different dips including lime pickle, spicy mango chutney and onion salad. For starter’s we shared the Pondicherry special BBQ - A selection of chicken tikka, spicy wings, seekh kebab, lamb chops, fried onions and radicchio leaves. All of the different meats were delicious, with first class ingredients and sourced locally produce.
After a short break to enjoy the surroundings, our main courses were served in a flourish of steam and selection of spices. I opted for the Handi mahe - A tasty and filling dish reflecting Pakistani style, emphasizing a true home flavour. I chose lamb however this can be prepared with chicken or prawns and I accompanied my dish with pilau rice, it also came with an exotic salad. My partners main was sizzling on arrival the Tandoori mix barbecue chicken and King prawns - with onions peppers and mushroom looked and tasted exquisite. We shared a garlic cheese and coriander naan too.
Although there is a vast range of desserts including the Chocca Mossa sharing dessert, after the delicious food we simply could not fit in another morsel, so we settled featured for a coffee each to end the perfect meal. Before bracing ourselves to enter back out into the cold night, we were fortunate enough to be shown downstairs to the newly renovated police cells. The cells are exclusive, for a private dining experience with historic information and memorabilia adorning the walls, fantastic lighting, this unique addition to and already exciting venue will also be accompanied by a new menu launch very soon. Overall a truly pleasurable evening, in a beautiful setting with attentive friendly knowledgeable staff and with the perfect blend of traditional and modern elegance, Pondicherry comes highly recommended by its loyal regulars and the Hype team. I most certainly agree with the Pondicherry philosophy – ‘Arrive as a guest and leave as a friend’ Five stars to Babs and the team! THE WREKIN GIANT!
there was a warmth throughout the restaurant, families sat enjoying loved ones company while couples enjoyed a relaxing drink in the bar area.
Walking into The Wrekin Giant with my partner Simon, on a cold Thursday evening, we were instantly warmed with the bright colours and modern/stylish dÊcor. Leaving the cold weather outside, we were welcomed and seated by a polite member of staff who left us with menus, so we got stuck in! The menu has a vast variety of meals hosting Starters, Sharers, Light Bites, Big Plate Specials, Pub Favourites and a Burger section. Turning the page, I was instantly excited scanning the Perfect Puds and hunger had set in! After much deliberation we had made the hard decision of choosing our Drinks, Starters, Mains and Puddings, so we headed over to the bar to order! Simon chose a drink from the Mocktail section with the Ruby Red Cola – Raspberry & Apple Juice and CocaCola taking his fancy, I decided on a rose wine. Sitting back at our table, the surroundings were relaxed and

Before long our starters arrived! Simon opted for Breaded Crispy Shrimp while I set my sights on the Chicken New Yorker Batons - Yum! Simons twelve piece breaded crispy shrimp, served in an iceberg lettuce cup with a sweet chilli dipping sauce, came presented perfectly and he enjoyed every mouthful and left him excited for his main course! My New Yorker Batons were delicious! Chicken, BBQ sauce, cheese & bacon tucked inside filo pastry accompanied by a BBQ dip finished with a fresh side salad with a tasty vinaigrette - Wow! It really was a treat, the textures of the filo pastry along with a smooth creamy sauce inside was a match made in heaven! Finishing our starters we wondered what the main course would have in store for us!
The Wrekin Giant2_Double Page Editorial 03/02/2015 11:03 Page 2
A short while later our meals were presented to us, ordering off the BIG PLATE Specials menu the plates were huge! Simon was taken by the Full Monty Mixed Grill while I opted for the Crispy Hunters Chicken. Simon being a protein lover was in his element seeing the 5oz rump steak, 5oz gammon steak, pork sausage and a chicken breast topped with a free range egg supporting a pineapple ring, served with chips, onion rings peas, mushroom and half grilled tomato! His steak cooked perfectly, just how he had requested and the gammon was really succulent! He was particularly impressed with the chips, not being a chip lover himself he found The Wrekin Giants chips fluffy, light and full of taste! My Crispy Hunters Chicken was a very large dish. I couldn’t wait to get stuck in! A jumbo crispy chicken breast topped with lashings of BBQ sauce, 2 streaky bacon rashers hidden under melted cheese served with chips, onion rings and a fresh salad side it was the perfect homely meal to enjoy away from the cold weather that surrounded Southwater that evening. I enjoyed every mouthful and the BBQ sauce accompanied the crispy hunter’s chicken dish perfectly - Thoroughly enjoyable! Feeling very content with full bellies, we weren’t sure if we had room for dessert, but after taking a second glance at the Perfect Puds menu, we both knew we were not leaving without sampling the sweet stuff! After toying with the options, Simon decided that the one for him was the Cookie Dough Cheesecake and when it arrived topped with vanilla ice cream and toffee sauce he knew he was on to a winner! His words “Sorry, this is better than your mom’s cheesecake!” (Sorry mom!). I decided that I really wanted to attempt the Giant Chocolate Horseshoe Sharer! A warm chocolate brownie cake topped with marshmallows, chocolate sauce, and toffee sauce hugging two scoops of vanilla ice cream - brilliant for sharing, or a CHALLENGE for one but after eating less than a quarter I knew I was defeated! This dessert is a must try, too delicious to leave, the very kind waiter packed it into take away bag for me to take home! We sat in the pleasant surroundings to let our food settle whilst we finished our drinks. The Wrekin Giant was great, great staff, atmosphere, surroundings and most importantly great food! We cannot wait to return with our daughter to try out the children’s area with TV’s build into the booths in the family area we know our daughter will enjoy the experience at The Wrekin Giant! The Wrekin Giant also offer many different weekday and weekend deals on food and drink making dining at the restaurant affordable and good value for money for any occasion! Breakfast from £1.99 (service hours vary). Also, a Golden Years menu for the over 60’s (Monday to Friday) and a fun, exciting menu for the children to enjoy! Have you had the Hungry Horse experience yet?

First Anniversary for AGA Carvery with over 80,000 diners served to date!
This week saw the anniversary of the UK’s first official AGA Carvery – Created by Shropshire based restaurateur and publican Adam Giles MD of family run Nostalgia Inns. Ye Olde Punch Bowl Inn is located just outside Bridgnorth and was the first of its kind in the UK to create the AGA Carvery concept and launch it last February 2014, to much acclaim. Since its launch Ye Olde Punch Bowl Inn has announced it has served a staggering staggering 80,000 diners from it's AGA Carvery who have enjoyed the unique flavours created by the slow cooking of the meats and the fresh vegetables – It has even now become a regular haunt for famous faces from TV, News and Sport, including Nick Owen of BBC Midlands today, BBC TV Actor ‘Boycie’ from the hit comedy series ‘Only Fools and Horses’ – “It is the best carvery I have ever had”, commented actor John Challis, who is also a Shrop-
‘Fresh from the hot plate to your plate’ – Diners travel from all over the UK and many have commented on the quality and tenderness of the meats, as well as the extra crispy potatoes and vegetables all cooked in the AGA cooker ‘The feedback has been amazing’, comments Adam Giles, creator of the AGA Carvery concept and MD of Ye Olde Punch Bowl Inn owners Nostalgia Inns – “We always received very positive feedback from our diners, as well as awards but since the AGA was installed the feedback has been incredible, far beyond our wildest dreams – We were so impressed we even installed one in our sister pub, the Plough Inn, near Bewdley – the response at both sites has been amazing, as well as enquiries from our diners about buying an AGA cooker for their own homes, as they have been impressed how versatile our AGA Total Control is – we even give them a private demo if they enquire”. Adam has been awarded by guides including Les Routier and industry awards, as well as with the accreditation of becoming an 'AGA Ambassador' by the Telford based company and is helping drive awareness of the versatility of AGA in the UK
Wedding Investment – Never one to rest on his laurels, following last years investment in the new AGA and refurbishment of the entire pub, Adam has taken the AGA concept even further, he has since bought some land adjacent and has invested over £100,000 in the land and is now landscaping of the hillside for weddings, installing a stunning dual-lake, with Japanese style ornamental bridge and gardens for wedding guests – “We thought we would push the boat out a little further”, adds Adam “For 2016 our wedding guests will be able to enjoy the stunning location and beautiful views of the Shropshire hills beyond for exclusive use for themselves and their wedding guests – they will of course be able to arrange an AGA Carvery meal for their guests of up to 150 – we like to think it will be the perfect backdrop to weddings in the region”.

HBO shared new Game of Thrones season five pictures with fans to coincide with the first full-length trailer - The long-awaited teaser clip debuted at IMAX showings of the last two episodes of season four and was later released internationally, much to fans’ excitement… There had been endless speculation surrounding the season 4 finale of Game of Thrones, book readers and spoiler addicts were pretty sure they knew how it would all end, with screams due to Michelle Fairley returning as Lady Stoneheart (zombie version of Catelyn Stark) seeking vengeance on those who had wronged her and her family. She was coming and even the cast teased that she was coming, she had to be coming! But the season finale came and went, and she didn’t! Podrick Payne and Brienne of Tarth spend most of ‘A Feast for Crows’ hearing rumours about a trail of dead Frey bodies that Lady Stoneheart and the Brotherhood without Banners had left around the kingdom, so what would be the sense in spending so much time on the Brotherhood and Beric Dondarrion’s powers of resurrection, without intending to bring Catelyn back from the dead? I suppose it’s a question that will be answered in good time and meanwhile the speculation will continue to grow, I can’t wait!
Maisie Williams returns as Arya Stark, along with Peter Dinklage as Tyrion Lannister, Kit Harington as Jon Snow and Lena Headey as Cersei Lannister. The first look images, released on the show’s official Facebook page, depict Tyrion plotting with Varys, Margaery Tyrell looking unexpectedly happy after her husband Joffrey’s death (if I was her I would be doing a little dance!) and Jon Snow seemingly teaming up with Stannis Baratheon. Cersei is angry that Tyrion managed to escape from King’s Landing and Arya is preparing to join assassin’s guild the Faceless Men of Braavos after reaching the House of Black and White. We also get a first glimpse of Alexander Siddig and Jonathan Pryce as Dorne ruler Doran Martell and religious leader the High Sparrow respectively.
Elsewhere, Deanery’s is plotting her return to the Iron Throne defiantly stating "I am Deanery’s Stormborn and I will take what is mine with fire and blood” - with the help of her three dragons! She should not be underestimated and has shown that she has what it takes to be Queen but can she and her army of Unsullied warriors make it across the narrow sea and commence battle? One thing that is for sure – Winter Is Coming!

MAROON 5
TO PLAY BIRMINGHAM’S GENTING ARENA As Maroon 5 fever grips the nation, the US pop superstars, armed with new album ‘V’, take it up another notch next spring with a date at Birmingham’s Genting Arena. 28
The new album was recorded in LA over the past year with producers Max Martin, Benny Blanco, Ryan Tedder, Shellback and Sam Martin, the much-anticipated ‘V’ reunites Maroon 5 with long-time keyboardist Jesse Carmichael. Rolling Stone raved about the new album saying ‘The 11 songs are precision-tuned and lustrously polished, jammed with hooks and choruses’ in their glowing 4* review. Not bad at all then!
With charismatic (and absolutely gorgeous!...) frontman Adam Levine at the helm, Maroon 5’s live shows are in a class of their own, as they showed earlier this year when they played two sold out London dates in January to rave reviews. The Star called it “A masterclass of showmanship”, the Standard said that they had “returned in spectacular style” and the Telegraph that their set had “provided moments of pop perfection”.

RELAX & FEEL BETTER Special report by Katy Rink THE pioneer of a new cognitive therapy is determined to prove his radical methods work – commissioning a full clinical trial to silence his critics. Alan Sharrock has had a rough ride – facing tough comments on BBC TV’s Dragon’s Den in 2011 and running into difficulties with the Advertising Standards Authority (ASA) for using case study evidence – rather than scientific proof – to advertise his ‘Miruji Behavioural Therapy’ (MBT). Miruji clients say MBT relieves symptoms of all manner of health conditions – including chronic fatigue, arthritis, obesity and depression. The challenge, for MBT pioneer Alan Sharrock, has been proving it. He has amassed hundreds of anecdotal ‘case studies’, from grateful clients but has found it difficult to persuade NHS commissioners to take him seriously without proper evidence. He is now a step closer to finding definitive, scientific proof that his therapies work. Dr Lisa Hill will initially be working as an independent research consultant to oversee a prospective trial into the physical and mental health benefits of MBT. She will be looking at the potential of MBT to promote long term weight loss, reduce stress and improve general wellbeing, improve mobility and get people back to work. Dr Hill states: “The strength of MBT is that it permits clients to enter into their own virtual worlds by providing a relaxed and positive environment. MBT incorporates both physical and mental relaxation techniques to provide clients with an over-all feeling of wellbeing.” Dr Hill was interested in results from a recent clinical audit – undertaken by independent occupational health consultant Dr Nick Richards – which showed that 70% of people lost weight after following a programme of MBT. After just 12 weeks, some people had lost as much as two stone. Dr Richards also discovered people were reporting dramatic recoveries – from chronic fatigue and depression – and were finding that they had a much more positive outlook on life. Dr Richards said that MBT was particularly promising therapy in the fight against obesity, since it motivates people to help themselves; the key to any sustained weight-loss. He added: “I believe MBT offers an exciting new therapy for many people with obesity, mobility problems, lack of
wellbeing and medically unexplained sickness that baffles the experts. “Having studied and practised medicine for over 50 years, I believe this type of therapy empowers the individuals to tackle their own problems in a positive and harmless way, at a relatively low cost. Why else would so many be coming back to Miruji? “We will face costs, criticism and challenges, especially from others with a vested interest in their untested therapies, but we have a dedicated team of professionals with a strong desire to help people and to take away some of the burden from our beleaguered NHS.” Alan Sharrock hopes that with sufficient evidence on his side, commissioners and policy-makers in the NHS will begin to recognise the value of MBT. He said: “The benefits to the NHS are huge. Not only is it helping people to change harmful behaviour, it’s also enjoyable, so people keep coming back for more and best of all for the NHS it is extremely cost effective, costing just £100 for a 12 week programme. “If MBT was available throughout the UK the NHS would save not just millions a year but billions. It really is that simple. If we help people to relax and give them the mind set to succeed, they can achieve anything they want to.” Alan will be looking for volunteers to take part in his study for a minimum of six months. Subjects should be over 18 and interested in making positive changes in their lives. There is no upper age limit. Alan would also like to hear from people who want to lose weight and keep it off, or who are suffering from depression, anxiety, ME, fibromyalgia, MS, arthritis or people who need help quitting smoking. Putting on antiperspirant is a routine part of most people’s day, and you may not think much about it. But here’s why you should: if you use one containing aluminum, you could be increasing your risk of breast cancer.
Antiperspirants work by clogging, closing, or blocking the pores that release sweat under your arms — with the active ingredient being aluminum. Not only does this block one of your body’s routes for detoxification (releasing toxins via your underarm sweat), but it raises concerns about where these metals are going once you roll them (or spray them) on. Recent studies have shown a correlation between breast cancer and regular use of antiperspirants. The risk increases even more if the antiperspirant is used immediately after shaving. Before there was a belief that the deodorant is much safer than the antiperspirant. But few recent studies have confirmed the association of parabens, with breast cancer. The parabens are contained in many deodorants. A simple example, is the autopsy of a woman dying from breast cancer, in which high amount of parabens were found in her breast tissue.
Do Bra’s Cause Breast Cancer?
Many physicians and researchers agree that wearing a tight-fitting bra can cut off lymph drainage, which may contribute to the development of breast cancer because your body will be less able to excrete all the toxins you’re exposed to on a daily basis. Aluminum from antiperspirants is one potentially dangerous source
Primary Causes Of Breast Cancer
You Will Want To Know of toxins that can accumulate if your lymph drainage is impaired.
There are few solid studies on bra wearing and breast cancer, but one of the most compelling was completed by medical anthropologists Sydney Singer and Soma Grismaijer — authors of Dressed to Kill: The Link Between Breast Cancer and Bras. The study of over 4,000 women found that women who do not wear bras have a much lower risk of breast cancer - Their findings included: > Women who wore their bras 24 hours per day had a 3 out of 4 chance of developing breast cancer.
> Women who wore bras more than 12 hour per day, but not to bed, had a 1 out of 7 risk. > Women who wore their bras less than 12 hours per day had a 1 out of 52 risk.
> Women who wore bras rarely or never had a 1 out of 168 chance of getting breast cancer.
When comparing women who wore their bras 24 hours a day with those who did not wear bras at all, there was a 125-fold difference in risk. Based on the results of this study, the link between bras and breast cancer is about three times greater than the link between cigarette smoking and cancer. Although this study did not control for other risk factors, which could have skewed their results, other studies have found similar compelling links. For example, a group of Japanese researchers found that wearing a girdle or bra can lower your levels of melatonin by 60 percent. The hormone melatonin is intimately involved with the regulation of your sleep cycles, and numerous studies have shown that melatonin has anticancer activities. How Does Your Garden Grow?

How does your garden grow? If you are anything like me, not very well! I love to sit in my mother’s garden as it is so pretty. She has always been an avid gardener, plus she knows what she is doing, which helps. My own garden is not so fortunate and I struggle with even the most simple of gardening tasks. Even remembering to water the odd basket my mother has planted for me is hard! I suppose it boils down to time, knowledge, organisation and lots of loving care. So how do you achieve a pretty garden if you if you lack these important qualities? 1. Hire A Gardener Yes it could be that simple! Get someone with all the knowledge and skills in to set out a basic garden design, using hardy plants, small conifers and maybe some planters. Book them in
to keep on top of your lawn too, that helps to keep the garden nice and tidy, rather than looking like a meadow!
2. Fake It! Consider having astro turf fitted. The initial outlay may seem expensive but with an average lifespan of between 10-15 years it’s well worth it. Any grass lover will tell you that in order to maintain natural grass you will need lots of skill, experience, time, money, materials and equipment. A synthetic requires no maintenance which means your time is spent relaxing.
years to come. Some of the best plants for beginners are: Aquilegia, Eschscholzia (Californian Poppy), Hardy Geranium (Cranesbill), Daylily, Buddleia, Sedum, Hosta 4. Small Steps Another top tip, if you want to do the work yourself, is to break things up into small sections. Take the job on one area at a time. Set aside time to dig 1 border or area and plan what you want to plant etc. You will quickly see the difference, this will spur you on to carry on to the next area and so on... in no time at all you will be able to sit back and relax in your lovely, easy-to-care-for garden!

SSFC is the largest A level examination centre in Shropshire with over 700 students taking A levels in 42 different subjects. ‘Results are important for students both in terms of their progression to University and employment' says Martin Ward, Principal 'The pass rate is an impressive 98% with A*-C grades over 70%. It is very encouraging also to see the range of routes that students are planning for example Jack Comerford and Oliver Austin have been offered very sought after BBC Broadcast Engineering apprenticeships enabling them to have their university costs covered and gaining invaluable work experience.' Applying couldn't be easier via our online system as Liz Hird, Admissions Manager explains, it's just one stage of the process 'Face to face interviews are crucial - it's important for students to see the people who, alongside students, are such a key part in our success and crucially, enables them to receive good advice about their options post 16 as well as see what joining the SSFC community can offer them. Steve McAlinden, Assistant Principal adds 'To support students with their studies, there is a transport scheme with Arriva, a government Bursary Programme and Free College Meals scheme which students can apply for.' When choosing where to study academic results are important, as is information on
where students have progressed to after their courses but that's only part of being a sixth form college student. It's important to embrace the opportunities available to support learning, enhance skills to fully enjoy the unique sixth form college experience. At SSFC we work hard, through our Enrich & Extend programme, to offer as many activities as we can to give students every opportunity to emerge from SSFC as fully participating, rounded individuals, confident in their ability to succeed in the next stage of their journey and beyond. As well as extra qualifications such as Extended Project and Critical Thinking, students are able to get work experience, volunteer with local organisations, go to careers fairs and summer schools, join the large Music & Dramatic Arts programme – there really is something for everyone … body combat exercise, college magazine, 3D club, peer mentoring, hockey and Duke of Edinburgh to name but a few. 'Our acquisition last year of Wakeman School has bought enormous benefits to
the student body, not least on-site sports and performance facilities.' says Martin Ward, Principal. 'We've been successful in gaining a grant from the Sixth Form Colleges Capital Improvement Fund which has allowed us to continue with the modernisation of both Priory Hall and Wakeman Hall. These improvements have also enabled us to fully utilise Wakeman Hall as a performance venue – we've already welcomed ex-student Reuben Penny and his team who ran music composition workshops for A level students, the Belle Vue Arts Festival and are looking forward to our Celebrating Achievement Evening and seeing students perform 'Cabaret'.'' Information on how to apply, our facilities, study programmes and even how to buy tickets for any of our events can be found on our website at: ssfc.ac.uk.
