ZIZZI SOUTHWATER Makes Your Mouth Water!
Having waited years for Southwater to open - illuminating the heart of Telford, we were thrilled to be invited to the VIP opening night at the brand new Zizzis!
Telford has been transformed by Southwater and Zizzi is in the very heart of it all.
There is a beautiful covered seating area outside, but it was the inside that I was intrigued to see. Upon entrance we were immediately stunned by the decor. It had a very modern contemporary feel to it, with fabulous artwork on the walls, and even a tree - planting the ‘Zizzi’ roots firmly into Telford soil and at the back of the restaurant was the kitchen with the highlight being a roaring oven...
We were greeted by Sam and Emma, and a glass of Prosecco to get the celebrations underway! The team here are amazing, very warm, friendly and professional – they were very proud of what they had achieved, and why not! If this was a sign of things to come, then the food should be first class!
For starters there was a selection of Antipasti to share, which consisted of Calamari rings, garlic bread with mozzarella, and caramelised balsamic onions. There was also mixed olives, tomato bread with pesto and Italian cured meats. The selection of Antipasti had so much variety. The meats were very succulent, the calamari had so much flavour and the breads were fresh - My personal favourite, being the garlic bread with mozzarella and caramelised onions – a stunning combination of flavours.
The drinks were flowing, (a little too well!) our waiter Roy had recommended ‘Pinot Grigio Blush’ to go along with our main courses and we didn’t have to wait too long – they looked superb! I had opted for King Prawn Linguine - King prawns and courgette ribbons in a hot roquito chilli, tomato and lobster sauce. My husband Stef, chose Pollo Prosciutto - Chicken breast in prosciutto ham and sage with a white wine sauce, Tuscan potatoes and green beans, our colleauge Surjit opted for Calzone Carne Piccante - Spicy piccante chicken, mini meatballs,
CIAO TELFORD! SOUTHWATER LEISURE HUB, TF3 4JG T: 01952 299277 E: TELFORD@ZIZZI.CO.UK
mushroom, chilli, tomatoes and bolognese and her partner Will chose Ravioli Di Capra - Goats cheese and spinach ravioli with a tomato sauce, basil pesto and pine nuts. We each tried a little of each others main courses and they were all absolutely delicious, the Calzone was a real winner though! We were full to the brim, but we still had a delicious trio of desserts to devour – Chocolate Tartufo, Tiramisu and Lemon Meringue Sundae. The chocolate truffle was elegant, the lemon meringue was tangy and the tiramisu had a lovely kick of coffee to it. Buonissimo!!! To summarise – the food as expected was superb, the ambience was friendly and warm and the service was second to none.
Italian food created and served with passion – highly recommended to all the Hype readers.

Just A Taster... Chris Conde
At the ever popular restaurant and bar, Henry Tudor House in Shrewsbury, you can now book the best seats in the house and choose from a range of new Tasting Menus starting from as little as £35 per head for a five course dining experience. For groups of 10 or more this comes with the option of being served in their sumptuous Private Dining Room where Henry Tudor is reputed to have stayed, before his battle with King Richard’s troops at Bosworth. For smaller groups they also have what is for many, the undiscovered 1st floor restaurant, which feels equally special, but a little less hurried than the hustle and bustle of the ground floor Brasserie.
The menus, with up to 9 courses, are lovingly created and prepared by TV’s Masterchef contestant and resident Executive Chef, Chris Conde. Each course is a complete mini dish, with its own little constellation of ingredients, everything ‘just so’. No speck of jus
out of place, humble vegetables carved and cooked to perfection alongside some of the finest local and coastal ingredients.
If you want an alternative to the starter, main, pudding and possibly a spot of cheese, this may be for you. “Although there are many theories about the origins of the taster menu, some believe they date back to Ancient Greece,” explained Chris, “when many different courses were served to royalty at religious feasts as a sign of placating all the various gods. Each had a favorite food and no one wanted to offend any god for fear of retribution”. Wherever its true origins lie, the Taster Menu has evolved around the world to become one of the most popular ways of exploring the impressive talents of today’s culinary professionals and when combined with the finest surroundings, can be things of wonder that don’t overwhelm the diner.

“We believe our taster menus are personal to both the diner and the chef”, said Chris, “and I will always try and incorporate some of the guests ideas wherever possible, when putting the menu together for that special occasion.” For more details contact Henry Tudor House on 01743 361666 or by email at hello@henrytudorhouse.com Henry Tudor House Barracks Passage Shrewsbury SY1 1XA Tel. 01743 361666

The Walking Dead Season 5_Double Page Editorial 15/09/2014 09:42 Page 1
SEASON 5 RETURNS 12 OCTOBER!
Images: AMC
Well October 12th sees the return of the #1 TV show from AMC, The Walking Dead! After the gripping season 4 finale, that saw the majority of the prison group make their way to Terminus, only to be captured and held in a railway car, we finally get to see what fate and those pesky termites have in store for Rick Grimes and the gang! There has been loads of gossip regarding the highly anticipated new season from cannibals to even maybe the cure for the zombie infection ravaging the world. One thing is for sure, season 5 will see some of the most shocking zombie action to date, so much so that they are rumoured to have cut some of the scenes deemed ‘too grusome for tv’! "The Walking Dead" made quite a splash at this year's San Diego
Comic-Con, especially with the debut of its Season 5 trailer. The comic book creator and AMC show executive producer and writer Robert Kirkman explained what he thinks about the characters still remaining. "This is a very dangerous, very different group of people," he said according to New York Daily News. There were teasers from some of those involved in the show for Season 5 events. It should please fans to know that the mysterious vanishing of Beth Greene (played by Emily Kinney) will be elaborated on. "She is out there ... questions of how she got where she is will be answered," Gail Anne Hurd, "The Walking Dead" producer, shared. Everyone’s favorite Norman Reedus, who plays Daryl Dixon, and Kinney also discussed their characters'
WHO WILL S SEASO blooming relationship. "Over the course of the episode I was able to build a trust and open up to someone and build something with Beth," Reedus explained. When asked if she wants their relationship to continue growing Kinney replied "I hope so, I think they definitely have a certain connection that has grown from surviving together. They have gotten to know each other on a different level that's really special, whether its friendship or something else. It's a deeper relationship." Meanwhile, could a romantic relationship form between Andrew
The Walking Dead Season 5_Double Page Editorial 15/09/2014 09:42 Page 2
“Rick has made up with all his demons, he is in an uncomplicated place. I don't think he has any conflict anymore or any moral ambiguity ... he's just very dangerous and a formidable leader as a result." Andrew Lincoln on Rick Grimes
L SURVIVE? SON 5 Lincoln's Rick Grimes and Danai Gurira's Michonne? "This is the number one question we're asked," explained Andrew Lincoln. "I think the beauty of it is seeing the pain these two went through losing a child," Gurira added. Romance or not, Rick will apparently be a force to be reckoned with this season. "He has made up with all his demons," Lincoln explained. "He is in an uncomplicated place. I don't think he has any conflict anymore or any moral ambiguity ... he's just very dangerous and a formidable leader as a result."
Still, the question on every viewers mind is always about the impending and inevitable deaths of some characters. There has been talks of riots and boycotts if certain members of the group were to be killed off! Lauren Cohan, who plays Maggie Greene, understands character deaths all too well as her on-screen father Hershel Greene, played by Scott Wilson, is "the character we miss the most, we do all know that our time will come, but just like in life we have to be in the moment" she said. As a massive fan myself, I for one cannot wait to see what the writers and producers have in store for us in season 5. This isn’t a show about zombies - its much more, with new characters, some of the most shocking scenes ever fimed, the chance of a little romance and undoubtedly the loss of some of the group, its about survival - but who will survive??...

Moon Landing 2014 World Tour Sunday 23 November 2014 NIA Birmingham
‘I have never been a beautiful boy. Never liked the sound of my own voice. I wasn’t cool when I was in my teens,I never slept, but I did have dreams.’ – Bones
Moon Landing is the fourth album by James Blunt. It’s an album about dreams, longing, first love. About looking in the mirror and seeing the boy you were, the man you are – and learning to be comfortable with that, flaws and all. About getting back to basics and rediscovering the power of music to communicate emotion directly and honestly, without too much polish or complication. ‘There's just something romantic, oldschool and lonely about the moon landings,’ he explains. ‘A nostalgic memory of something huge that we can hardly believe we once achieved, and for some sad reason, can't achieve again – like first love.’ We all think we know about James Blunt, of course. But those who’ve been off-planet, here’s a recap on the story so far. Born in an army hospital in Tidworth, Wiltshire. Educated in Harrow, then Bristol. Signed up for four years in the Army. Ended up serving six, in Canada, Kosovo and then London. Spotted playing at the South by Southwest Music Festival, signed up by Linda Perry to her new label Custard. Recorded an album, Back To Bedlam, with Tom Rockrock in LA. Released it to universal indifference. And then the third single, You’re Beautiful, came out.
And so there it was: one big hit, two more albums, three world tours, four number one singles, five Grammy nods (plus two BRITS, two Ivor Novellos and a host of MTV awards), a six-piece band, seven whole years on the road, eight kiss and tells, and then the numbers spiral out of control: nearly 17m albums and 20 million singles sold worldwide. Plus over 5m Facebook ‘likes’, 250m plays on Spotify and an astonishing 257m YouTube views. What do those figures mean? Some amazing experiences – some youthful excesses. The chance to use his high profile to do some good, supporting charities such as Medicines Sans
Frontiers and Help For Heroes (including three foiled attempts to play in Afghanistan for serving soldiers), and to draw attention to the issue of climate change.
But to a lad who picked up a guitar and wrote his first song at 14, wrote his university dissertation on the music industry, took that guitar to the war in Kosovo, and always dreamed of making music, what success has meant, more than anything, is freedom. ‘What it allowed me to do was go on tour with a band. That was absolutely amazing, and so I recorded our second album, All The Lost Souls, with that band, and make a deeper, richer album. Then I recorded the third album, Some Kind Of Trouble, in the UK with lots of musicians and a fancy studio, and enjoyed making a more upbeat album. I picked up an electric guitar and did the kind of songs that I’d heard as a teenager but couldn’t replicate on my acoustic. It was fun playing catch-up, exploring all the things I wanted to do and be - all the other musicians I wanted to sound like.’
But for Moon Landing, he wanted to go back to sounding… like himself. Initial sessions saw him working with a real musician’s producer – Martin Terefe, and these recordings have an undeniable freedom and celebration in their sound. ‘I was playing a lot of ukulele - mainly because it makes me look bigger,’ says James. ‘We got on so well we could easily have done a whole album together and more.’ But then James chose to strip it back further - he went back to LA, staying with his friend Carrie Fisher as he did for the first album (Back To Bedlam was her title suggestion, and the vocals for Goodbye My Lover were recorded in her bathroom). He also returned to producer Tom Rothrock, and to working with just the two of them in the studio, occasionally bringing in selected musicians from the Back To Bedlam sessions to fill in where James’ own skills weren’t enough. ‘I’m a useless drummer,’ he says cheerfully. ‘And I didn’t play the bass much, either. But I can find my way round almost anything else. It was meeting between two old friends, making music for more than just the joy of it – but for the need. ‘Tom and I just
sat in his studio for a few months, feeling our way. He has an array of old vintage instruments, and I went around playing them one at a time. It’s a much more personal album, between him and me: about us finding where it all started, and where we are now. I’m not trying to prove anything, I haven’t been trying to second-guess the audience or overthinking things. It’s just me alone in a sound-booth, looking through the glass at Tom, trying to express myself simply and honestly. This is the album I would have recorded, perhaps, if Back To Bedlam hadn’t sold anything.’ The result is a collection of songs that are raw, direct, and emotionally honest. There are songs of searing selfexamination (Always Hate Me, The Only One), and others that sound like soundtracks for films not yet made, like Miss America - a song inspired by the tragic death of Whitney Houston, to explore the idea of how fame makes us feel like we know that artist personally. From unabashed declarations of love (the jaunty Postcards, the yearning Blue On Blue), to what must be one of the most tender break-up songs ever, the achingly lovely Face The Sun, Moon Landing is a thing of pure, understated beauty. And, as an ntroduction, and like all of James Blunt’s best work, the melody for first single ‘Bonfire Heart’ will quickly etch itself into your consciousness, and you’ll soon be humming along to the sweetly reflective verses, and anthemic chorus.
You can never go back to the start, but some things you can rediscover. ‘In my teens, I found freedom in music. It’s a way of dreaming, a way to express who you are to the audience, but just as importantly, to yourself. It has taken me a while to understand it, to feel it again and start dreaming again.’ NIA tickets priced at £42.70 (including admin fee and £0.70 renovation levy) + £2.50 fulfilment fee.

A NEW AGE OF DISCOVERY...
Discovery and Beyond.... Demonstrating their shared vision of pioneering spirit, technological innovation and sense of adventure, the ground breaking partnership was announced against the backdrop of SpaceShipTwo, the world’s first commercial passenger carrying spacecraft, together with Land Rover’s new Discovery Vision Concept vehicle. The announcement illustrates the commitment that both brands share to iconic design and engineering excellence and a desire to push the boundaries of travel for the next generation. The partnership will see Land Rover vehicles become part of daily life for the Virgin Galactic team and for all ‘Future Astronauts’, the space experience will now begin with Land Rover as they arrive in New Mexico for training, and continue to the moment they drive from the space terminal building to the waiting spaceship. Land Rover will base a fleet of vehicles at the Virgin Galactic test centre in the Mojave Desert, California and at its astounding operational New Mexico base, Spaceport America.
The exciting announcement was revealed in dramatic fashion on board USS Intrepid, a former aircraft carrier and now a museum dedicated to the exploration of sea, air and space and anchored on the Hudson River. Land Rover’s first act as exclusive partner was to bring a unique full-size replica of SpaceShipTwo VSS Enterprise to New York, where it joined the remarkable British Airways Concorde and its namesake Space Shuttle Enterprise upon the Intrepid. Like the Space Shuttle, SpaceShipTwo is the first of a revolutionary fleet of reusable human spacecraft. Having the vehicles in one place for the first time provided a powerful symbol of human ingenuity and the adventurous spirit of exploration and discovery. Revealed alongside SpaceShipTwo was Land Rover’s Discovery Vision Concept, a vision of Land Rover’s future family of Discovery vehicles. The concept car previews dynamic new design language and an array of world first technologies. Building on Land Rover’srenowned allterrain capability, the Discovery Vision
Concept represents the ultimate SUV of the future.
The vehicle uses augmented reality technology to display a ‘see-through’ view of the terrain ahead, making the front of the car ‘virtually’ invisible from inside the cabin. Gesture Control allows you to open the doors, operate the indicators or turn on the headlamps simply by moving your hand, while Laser Referencing projects visible markings, symbols and imagery onto the ground to aid low speed or tricky manoeuvres.
Richard Branson, Founder of Virgin Galactic said “We couldn’t be more delighted to have Land Rover join us on our incredible journey. It is hard to think of a brand which is more synonymous with exploration and adventure. The safety and engineering excellence of Land Rover’s vehicles, which have been the stuff of legend for more than 65 years, are attributes which also lie at the heart of Virgin Galactic. We look forward to crossing the final frontier together and to a long and fruitful partnership.”
Virgin Galactic + Land Rover_Double Page Editorial 15/09/2014 09:58 Page 2
Phil Popham, Group Marketing Director of Jaguar Land Rover said “This is a marriage of two of Britain’s most iconic brands which celebrate shared values, a pioneering spirit and a true sense of adventure. Not only do we both share the same long-term vision to enable mankind to explore, but we also want to develop this partnership to inspire others.
From our tens of thousands of employees and customers to schools and colleges, motivating more young people to pursue careers in engineering, science, technology and math - and explore new ways of travelling for future generations.
Land Rover’s heart beats ‘above and beyond’ – we are pioneers on land and Virgin Galactic is the pioneer of space. It’s a very special match of brands with a shared vision.” DISCOVERY VISION CONCEPT The Discovery Vision Concept is a bold vision of the SUV of the future. The iconic Land Rover Discovery is poised to
transition from a single model to a new family of vehicles designed to meet every need of the customers of tomorrow. The pioneering spirit at the core of Discovery for the last 25 years continues with Land Rover’s bold new vision for the new age of Discovery: smarter, more connected, more desirable and more capable than ever.
VIRGIN GALACTIC Owned by Sir Richard Branson’s Virgin Group and aabar Investments PJS, Virgin Galactic is on track to be the world’s first commercial spaceline. To date, the company has accepted over $85 million in deposits from more than 700 individuals, which is approximately 20% more than
the total number of people who have ever gone to space. The new spaceship (SpaceShipTwo, VSS Enterprise) and carrier craft (WhiteKnightTwo, VMS Eve) have both been developed for Virgin Galactic’s vehicle fleet by Mojave-based Scaled Composites.
Founded by Burt Rutan, Scaled developed SpaceShipOne, which in 2004 claimed the $10 million Ansari X Prize as the world’s first privately developed manned spacecraft. Virgin Galactic’s new vehicles, which will be manufactured by The Spaceship Company in Mojave, Calif., share much of the same basic design, but are being built to carry six customers, or the equivalent scientific research payload, on suborbital space flights. The vehicles will allow an out-of-the-seat, zero-gravity experience with astounding views of the planet from the black sky of space for tourist astronauts and a unique microgravity platform for researchers. The VSS Enterprise and VMS Eve test flight program is well under way, leading to Virgin Galactic commercial operations, which will be based at Spaceport America in New Mexico.

What Is Blue Light?
Blue Light
Longer working hours in front of digital displays, evenings watching the flat screen TV and an addiction to smartphones and tablets means a change in the type of light we are exposed to. Most of us are aware of the dangers of UV light and take steps to protect ourselves in the sunlight. However, with prolonged exposure research shows that shorter wavelength, i.e. blue and violet, light can be just as damaging. Research suggests that this high intensity light can damage the retina and cause the onset of age-related macular degeneration earlier in life.
Effects on Sleep....zzzz..
Sources of Blue Light
It’s not just your eye health that’s at risk either. Blue light is an important part of your daily routine, sending signals to your brain that it’s time to wake up in the morning and making you more alert. Use of tablets and smartphones when you’re going to bed disrupts this natural cycle and can lead to insomnia and fatigue.
The plethora of electronic devices in use today, such as cell phones, tablets, and laptop computers, has drastically increased our exposure to blue light. Another source of blue light is energy efficient technology in the form of fluorescent light bulbs and LED lights.
You can’t wear sunglasses at work or in bed, so how can you protect yourself from these wavelengths? All reflection free finishes on spectacles give some degree of protection as well reducing eye fatigue. This is why your optometrist or dispensing optician will always recommend the finish. Several lens manufacturers have also developed special blue light blocking filters which are just coming onto the market. These filters cancel out the shorter wavelength light, causing less exposure to the eye. You can also try not using your electronic devices within an hour of going to bed.
Research has determined that the lens inside the eye, and the pigment in the back of the eye, offer some protection against blue light. But this protective mechanism only lasts for a short period of exposure to the intense blue light, and during daylight hours. Contact JBO (John Biddle Opticians) on 01952 586267.

AW14 Beauty Trends
Straight from the Autumn & Winter catwalk shows, we bring you the latest beauty trends for eyes. The Winter Blues are not a bad thing this season as blue becomes the coolest shade for shadows, eye liners and even mascara. Along with bright blues, metallics and glitters were all over the big fashion catwalks, mix the two and you will have a fantastic look for the AW season.
Thick blue eyeliner teamed with metallic gold shadow and electric blue mascara is guaranteed to turn heads and if you are bold enough add some glitter for the full on fashion look. If you want to wear a glitter, apply a small amount of vaseline to the area to help it stay in place. We love the Barry M range, which is
available online or in Boots and Superdrug. The colour range is huge and they have loads of metallic shades and glitters too!
Autumn and Winter will not see you grabbing your tweezers yet, as big eyebrows remain the trend. It’s important to make sure you keep
them tidy though and be careful not to go too heavy with the eyebrow pencil - get this wrong and you risk looking like Bert and Ernie from Sesame Street! Have a Colourful Autumn!

Evanji - WHAT IS SUGARING? Sugaring is the ancient Arabic art of removing unwanted hair from the body and face using a natural sugar paste. Skin is left soft and completely hair-free and re-growth is softer, sparser and lighter in colour (diminishing with each treatment until, in many cases, growth finally ceases!).
Because the paste is completely natural and the treatment so gentle, any areas of the face and body can be treated (including legs, under-arms, brows) - even sensitive skin. Conditions such as Eczema and psoriasis can be improved. (It's ideal for girls who are starting to feel conscious of darker hair and looking for a way of removing it without resorting to shaving or waxing - in fact many mums and daughters have joint appointments!).

Located north of Telford, less than 10 minutes’ from the town centre, Trenchwood Gardens has been a great success and the majority of homes have been sold. The final phase offers a choice of larger three and four-bedroom properties and because of the limited availability, the four-bedroom Cambridge and Shrewsbury style showhomes have been released for sale. At Aston Fields there’s a total of 101 homes for private sale, offering a choice of two, three and four-bedroom designs. The new development is ideally situated on the edge of the town, less than 500 metres from the main shopping area of Bradford Street. The M54 is less than a mile away, making the homes a perfect commuter base.
Over at The Coppice there are 152 homes for private sale. The two, three and fourbedroom properties will be ideal for buyers with children as the area is well served by schools; while nearby Hadley is home to two supermarkets, where homeowners can stock up on groceries. Properties at all three locations are from

Little Rabbits Childminders: By Lucy Smout and Rachel White
We are two Ofsted registered childminders working together from the same home. We were nursery nurses who have gained experience, knowledge and qualifications for over 6 years in child care. We are Level 3 and level 5 qualified in Early Years and both have a range of other qualifications including up to date paediatric first aid, anaphylactic awareness and auto-injector training, child protection, food hygiene and Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) training.
We are highly experienced practitioners caring for children from newborn upwards. Both of us have gained room leader roles within a nursery and have experience caring for children with a range of needs and abilities including Special Educational Needs, and Gifted and Talented. Other training includes: epilepsy awareness and rescue medication training, care for children with severe food allergies and intolerances. We are friendly, fun, caring and responsible individuals who provide a calm, nurturing environment. Based in the country side, we offer a variety of fun and stimulating activities to meet children's individual abilities, needs and interests. Some of the activities we provide are; nature walks around the large garden, gloop play, cloud-doh, play-doh, water activities, lots of role play
resources for the home corner, inclusive day trips to attingham park, farms and more. We support children's development of hand-eye co-ordination, fine manipulative skills and gross motor skills through different activities. We allow a mixture of child-initiated play as well as adult led activities to promote concentration and attention skills. Through observation of children, we
and working towards the early learning goals for each child. We understand children learn at different rates and we support this.
We both have excellent understanding of child development, identifying needs early to support children with early intervention if needed. We have experience of liaising with external agencies to support children with IEPs (individual education plans), including children with speech delays, physical needs and medical needs.
We have very good initiatives with caring for babies and children, helping them to settle when upset. We understand children starting in a new child care setting may be unsettled and we will work in partnership with parents as much as possible to allow a smooth transition and helping the child to settle. We have both cared for twins, ensuring they are treated and valued as unique individuals, ensuring each of their needs are met and are both happy. Children we care for are able to build good attachments and bonds with us, which will enable them to feel safe and secure to learn and develop effectively. We provide all meals, this includes breakfast, morning snack, lunch, afternoon snack and a tea. We also cater for babies who are weaning by providing their meals too.
The children's safety and wellbeing is paramount, their needs will always come first. We want to provide more for children and help them reach their full potential, for them to be happy and well cared for. Thank you,
Lucy and Rachel
understand how to plan activities that will include risk and challenge to promote their development and to help children learn how to take manageable risks. By knowing the children, we also know when to change activities so children do not become bored.
Children are able to make marks with pens, crayons, pencils and more, and also learn to write their names. We support children's letter and number recognition with lots of activities and resources to help get children ready for school. We help get children ready for school through daily routines, being good role models

OPEN EVENINGS AT SHREWSBURY SIXTH FORM COLLEGE PLUS TASTER DAY & PARENTS CONFERENCE
Staff and students at Shrewsbury Sixth Form College are celebrating good A Level results with 20% of the students gaining A*-A grades, 45% A*-B grades. The College is the largest A level examination centre in Shropshire with over 700 students taking A level examinations in 42 different subjects.
Commenting on the achievements Principal Martin Ward, said ‘A level results are important for students both in terms of their progression to University and employment. The pass rate is an impressive 98% with significantly high proportions of higher grades with A*-C grades over 70%. With the removal of the opportunity to take January modules and the changing national picture for A level achievement I think the results are good’ Underlying the headline rate there are many individual success stories. Isobel Goodman, Harriet Jackson, David Parton, Morgan Rogers, Jasper Syms, Fergus Walters, Hannah Webb are all off to Oxford or Cambridge in September to study a range of subjects from Maths to Geography. Harriet Jackson will be spending her first year in California as an exchange student sponsored by her college at Cambridge. Kotiram Manmuang, who is from Thailand, is one of a growing number of international students who are choosing to study at SSFC. He has been very successful, achieving 3 A*'s and a B grade in Maths and Science and will now be

going onto study at Economics at Warwick University. The College has increasingly worked closely with Shropshire Council to support the needs of a rising number of students with High Needs in terms of additional support for disabilities or specific learning difficulties. This provision has facilitated excellent results for students including Steven Green. Steven, a former Meole Brace student, has received comprehensive support related to his Asperger’s Syndrome both in and out of lessons. This has enabled him to complete A levels in Chemistry and Biology, attaining pleasing grades in both. Ultimately, Steven intends to attend university to complete a science based degree. As well as great results, Shrewsbury Sixth Form College has another cause for celebration as we were successful in bidding for funds to improve the sports fields and sporting opportunities at our English Bridge Campus. Over £82,000 has been granted from National Lottery investment from Sport England’s Further
'Our acquisition last year of Wakeman School has bought enormous benefits to the student body, not least on-site sports facilities so to receive such a large investment to further our aspirations in this area is very welcome.' says Martin Ward, Principal. 'We've also been successful in receiving a grant from the Sixth Form Colleges Capital Improvement Fund which has allowed us to improve the café facilities at the Welsh Bridge Campus and continue with the modernisation of both Priory Hall and Wakeman Hall.' Open Evenings in October (16th & 21st) and a Taster Day and Parents conference on November 22nd will give students and parents alike the opportunity to have a good look at both campuses.
