It’s What We Are All About...
Wednesday Night Fever...
My partner and I decided to take a midweek visit to the Good Time Bistro in Madeley. The restaurant from the outside has a vibrant and appealing look to it and draws you in instantly. They open the restaurant doors on a Wednesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday evenings, and Thursday and Friday lunch time. We decided to try out the new Wednesday evening, which offers a different menu, suitable for all. The food offers a great variety of choice, at a very reasonable cost which makes it attractive to a slightly younger crowd.
As we entered the restaurant we were welcomed and the feel of the restaurant instantly impressed us. It was very quirky, offering something different to what is available in the local area but also having that warm friendly feel with some music playing softly in the background. We were shown to our table which was presented very well with a few unique touches. We were given the food menus to browse and our drinks ordered was taken straight away. The drink menu offers lots of choices unfortunately for me I was driving so the lemonade won, even though the cocktails sounded very tempting!

At our table an entrée of assorted breads and olives were presented which was a great touch, as it gave us time to mull over what we wanted but kept our hunger at bay at the same time.
For my main course I decided to go for the Chicken Stroganoff With Creamy Mash And Vegetables, and my partner decided to go for the Spaghetti Bolognese with Garlic Bread. I absolutely loved the Chicken Stroganoff, it was very tasty and an unusual twist on a classic stroganoff, as it would normally be with beef. This worked very well and with the sauce and all the fresh ingredients, including the creamy mash which was fantastic. This dish lived up to my expectations and much more! Ashleigh was very impressed with her dish too, she said that the Bolognese was very flavoursome and clearly homemade, which was evident in the freshness of the flavours. This was accompanied with some crunchy garlic bread. Overall both dishes were a massive hit and offered value for money but very generous portions.
Now onto our favourite course, the puddings. Lots of choices were available and all sounded very appealing. We both went for the home made Chocolate Brownie With Ice Cream, after it was explained to us that it was freshly made that day and the fact that we both love brownies it was a very easy choice. When it arrived the smell was to die for! The taste was even better, a slight crunch to the top of it but very smooth and moreish, with hidden biscuit pieces inside making it simply delightful. It was the best brownie we have ever had and without doubt, should be firmly fixed onto the menu.
Overall a fantastic evening and, being a younger couple, it was certainly a treat for us to go out and enjoy the quality of the food but at a great price, making it amazing value for money. Another visit is defiantly on the cards! This is a family run restaurant with owners that are very passionate about their food. An alternative menu is available Thursday till Saturday and offers a few more dishes at still very reasonable prices, so if you’re looking for a great evening, with a quirky feel and amazing food, then go down to Good Time Bistro.

Switch On Event
Friday 25th November 2016!
Councillor Caroline Killen has been the Chair of the Shifnal Town Council Christmas Lights Working Group for a few years now and is proud to announce that this year’s Christmas Lights Switch On Event will be held on Friday 25th November 2016 at 6.45pm.
“This year”, Caroline said, “the event promises to be even bigger and better than in previous years with the Christmas lights extending a little bit further in the Town. We have an excellent team of volunteers who are on the Working Group and who also help on the night, but without one gentleman, we would struggle; former Mayor and Councillor, Mr Gerald Nickless. Gerald works tirelessly throughout the year to ensure that Shifnal has the best local Christmas Lights and I would just like to say a big thank you to Gerald, from all of Shifnal residents and businessesl”. The 2016 Shifnal Carnival Queen, Princesses and Prince will be switching the lights on at 6.45pm on Friday 25th November 2016 – aided by Shifnal Town Council Mayor, Councillor Robert Harrop.
There will be Countdown Clock in the centre of Shifnal, starting on Friday 11 November at 6.45pm and the clock will be positioned above the shop front of the One Stop Shop. There will be refreshments available outside the One Stop on the evening of the 11th November, as well as the opportunity to purchase a raffle tickets and the chance to win a fantastic hamper!
Shifnal Lions will be supporting the Christmas Lights Switch On Event with a Father Christmas, and this year, there will be two real Reindeer attending as well - supplied by Jolly Entertaining. Children will have the opportunity to get close to these lovely animals . Telford Street Dance Group will start the proceedings at 5pm and the Rock Choir, Shifnal Male Voice Choir and a DJ will also be there.
Councillor Killen said “this year we are delighted to say that the Christmas Tree that will be on the corner of Shrewsbury Road has
been kindly donated by local family, the Whitehouses”. There will also be another (surprise) Christmas tree in the Town!
A Fun Fair supplied by Pat Collins will be on Bradford Street as well as a local Face painter – Fantasy Faces, sponsored by Shifnal Town Council.
You will be able to have “tea on the go” with a choice from Bridgnorth Pig Roast, Pancakes, Pizzas, cakes as well as the opportunity to buy a lovely glass of mulled wine. There will be markets on Friday 25th November and Saturday 26th November with a wide variety of unique stalls and entertainers, as in previous years

The Visage Hair and Beauty complex has its own separate reception area, and is equipped with two hairdressing salons with a total of 26 individual hair-styling bays, including adjustable chairs, overhead driers, and storage cupboards. Both salons are contemporary and modern in design, and include full interactive learning whiteboards that help demonstrate theory in practice through the use of video. Full barbering facilities are also available. In addition, Visage has two fully-equipped beauty salons with 16 individual beds that make use of the latest techniques and treatments, including holistics. Steam and sauna facilities are available in one of the beauty salons for students wanting to develop skills in spa treatments. Visage also has nail bar salon facilities to help support and maximise the growing number of students pursuing nails as a career. Students participate in additional curriculum activities, for example hairdressing workshops in extensions and colouring, whilst Beauty offers courses in Hopi ear candles, body wrap, roller waxing, and ear piercing. Full-time students will be able to study for these additional qualifications to enhance their CVs. In-house competitions take place where independent judges select winners. Students also participate in international hair and beauty competitions.
Students work in a real life commercial environment, carrying out a wide range of treatments on clients under full supervision. The salons use a top range of hair and beauty products, including Dermologica and Matrix.

She contacted TCAT after being recommended by a friend, and the college helped her to juggle her studies with the pressures of bringing up her young children – one of which was just eight weeks old when she enrolled.
Clair said: “It can be daunting, as you are studying in a smaller environment. But these group sizes allow you to learn in a fantastic way – lessons are taught in a classroom, not a theatre!”
Her TCAT tutor Stuart Taylor said: “She came to the Foundation Degree Health and Social Care with a level three NVQ. “Under normal circumstances, I would have advised her to study on the Access to Higher Education Diploma, which would have given her the necessary academic skills to study on the course.

Mature student Clair Drummond has said a big thank-you to Telford College of Arts and Technology for helping her to graduate with a first class honours degree in Health and Social Care.
The 33-year-old, from Malinslee, completed a two-year Foundation Degree at TCAT, before topping it up with a further year at the University of Wolverhampton.
And she said she was grateful to TCAT for giving her a ‘great step onto the higher education ladder’, and supporting her with her dyslexia.
Clair is now working towards a master’s degree, and can register as an approved social worker. This means she can expect to earn up to £25,000 in her first year, rising to around £40,000 if she becomes a social work manager.
Mother-of-three Clair’s previous jobs range from co-ordinating training at fast food chain McDonalds, to giving scuba diving tuition in Malta. It was when she started looking for jobs in the care sector that she realised she needed to develop her CV and get a professional university-level qualification.
“However, during interview, Clair convinced me that she was a suitable candidate to start on the course, and from the beginning she displayed an ability to learn very quickly.” By the end of her two-year TCAT course, Clair had earned a Merit grade and was praised for her very good essay writing and exam skills and ability to contribute meaningfully to class discussions. Clair’s story shows that you don’t need A Levels to go to university . . . and you don’t need to spend all your time at university to get a degree!
TCAT offers a wide range of HE courses, including Foundation Degrees in topics such as Early Years, Supporting Children in Primary Education, Health and Social Care, Computing, Sports Performance and Coaching, and Art, Design and Media. On top of this, there are HNC programmes in areas such as Business, Engineering, Computing and Systems Development, and Digital Media Production – all capable of being topped up into a full honours degree with a further year of study.

SLOW COOKED LAMB SHANKS
Caramel
CHEESECAKE & Chocolate Ingredients
Biscuit Base 150g Digestives, 150g Oreos, 125g butter (melted) Cheesecake Filling 500g Mascarpone cheese, 1 tsp vanilla extract, 100g icing sugar, 150g Carnation caramel, 300ml Double cream & 175g Milk Chocolate chopped up Decorations Caramel drizzle – I use Tescos own brand, Chocolate drizzle & Whipped cream.
Method
1 | Crush the biscuits in a food processor (or break up by placing in a zip bag and smash with a rolling pin 2 | Melt the butter and mix in the biscuit crumbs. 3 | Spread on the bottom of an 20cm Deep Tin and press down firmly, then place in the fridge to cool. 4 | Place the cream in a large mixing bowl and whisk until thick, then add the cream cheese, vanilla, icing sugar and caramel and whisk again until smooth. 5 | Chop the milk chocolate into small chunks and fold through the cheesecake mixture, then spread over the biscuit base and leave to set in the fridge for 4 hours, or overnight. 6 | Decorate by drizzling with caramel and chocolate and maybe some chocolate buttons!.

4 lamb shanks, 2 carrots, chopped, 1 onion, chopped, 3 garlic cloves, finely chopped, 2 bay leaves & 2 sprigs rosemary, 1 bottle of full-bodied red wine, 480ml beef stock, 1 tbls soft brown sugar, 1 -2 teaspoon cornflour, olive oil & salt & pepper
Method
1 | Preheat oven to 325F degrees. 2 | Season the lamb shanks with salt and pepper. 3 | In a large frying pan brown the lamb shanks on all sides in the olive oil then transfer to a large casserole dish and keep warm. In the same frying pan put in the carrots, onions, garlic, bay leaves and rosemary and cook slowly for 3-4 minutes. Pour in the red wine, beef stock, and brown sugar into the frying pan and stir gently bringing it to a low boil. Pour the wine mixture over the lamb shanks; top up with water if needed. 4 | Cover and place in the oven and cook for 2 1/2 – 3 hours until tender. 5 | Remove the lamb shanks and keep warm and skim the fat off the top of the red wine juices. 6 | Mix together the cornflour with just a bit of cold water and whisk the cornflour mixture into the red wine juices until desired consistency. Serve up on individual plates and enjoy.

Method
1 | Prepare the hot chocolate mix according to the package directions. 2 | Mix with half the chipotle and half the cinnamon. 3 | Top with the whipped cream and sprinkle with the remaining chipotle and cinnamon.

Australia is a country for all seasons...
Summer in Australia, is from December to February, and it is a great time to visit and get outdoors. Swim Sydney’s beaches or hike the overland tracks, or you could take in one of the most famous NYE fireworks displays in the world. Winter, from June to August, offers snow skiing in the Australian Alps to snorkeling in the temperate Great Barrier Reef! It is this diversity that makes Australia so unique, it literally has it all.
Australia is a BIG country, but it is isn’t hard to get around. Flying is the most popular due to the vast distances and fares are reasonable. Coach and bus travel is comfortable and reasonably priced. You generally have air conditioning, adjustable seats and free wifi. Greyhound offer hop on hop off passes for popular routes, short trip passes and flexible passes based on the distance you wish to travel. Road trips offer some of the most beautiful scenery in the world, and the roads are well-maintained or you could use the trains, some of which offer spectacular journeys, sweeping across the continent. The legendary Ghan travels between Adelade and Darwin, passing through Australia’s Red Centre, as well as the tropical top end.

1. Sydney Harbour The sparkling waters of Sydney Harbour are synonymous with Australia’s most famous city. Alive with ferries, yachts and kayaks, one of the world’s
greatest natural harbours is also a gateway to other parts of Sydney. One of the best ways to explore its beauty is to catch an iconic Sydney ferry. Passing some of the harbour’s famed landmarks, including the Sydney Opera House and the Sydney Harbour Bridge, the city’s waterways offer many scenic vantage points.
2. Bondi Beach Bondi Beach is a surfers paradise! It is one of the most visited sites in Australia. Bondi is located to the east of Sydney central business district. It is around 1km long and is protected by shark nets (not the whole length of the beach though?!!). Yellow and red flags mark safe swimming areas, and visitors are advised to swim between them.

3. Wildlife - Australia has a vast array of wildlife, from the Kangeroo to Dingos. One of Australia's best-known marsupials is the koala, which feeds on the leaves of various species of eucalyptus. One of UK's biggest stars, John will be bringing this huge 35 date tour to the Barclaycard Arena for two nights, on 10th and 11th November 2017.
On announcing Winging It, John said: "When I start this new tour, it will be three years since my last live show Supersonic, which is the longest break I've ever had. I'm very much looking forward to getting back on the road - there really is nothing like performing stand-up in front of a live audience. The new show is called Winging It, and in some respects having come to comedy relatively late, it sometimes feels like that’s what I'm doing in life! But I'm enjoying every minute of it."
Winging It will see John back on stage for his fifth UK tour, performing in his own inimitable style. His last tour ‘Supersonic’ was watched by more than 500,000 people and received huge critical acclaim. ‘Rollercoaster’ in 2012 was another sell out, and followed the successes of his ‘Sunshine’ tour in 2011 and the ‘Elvis Has Left The Building’ show in 2010, for which he was nominated for an Edinburgh Comedy Award. John Bishop has had an incredible career. Within three years of his first ever comedy gig, John was playing to sold out arena audiences across the country and released the fastest selling stand-up DVD in UK history.
He has achieved huge success with a number of his own comedy, entertainment and documentary shows including ‘John Bishop’s Australia’ (BBC1), ‘John Bishop’s Britain’ (BBC1), ‘John Bishop’s Only Joking’ (Sky1), ‘The John Bishop Show’ (BBC1), ‘The John Bishop Christmas Show’ (BBC1) and ‘John Bishop’s Gorilla Adventure’ (ITV1).
Earlier this month John turned his hand to something completely different – interviewing. A new series called ‘John Bishop: In Conversation With…’ sees him chatting, one on one, with some of the UK’s biggest names from the world of entertainment, sport and music to discover the people behind the public persona, in 10 intimate and revealing one hour interviews on the W Channel.
John has recently made a return to acting – he is currently filming a new ITV drama, Fearless. Written by Homeland writer Patrick Harbinson and produced by Mammoth Screen (credits include Poldark and Victoria), the six-part series will TX next year.

Winter Health... Winter is coming along with the unavoidable cold and flu bugs that start doing their rounds around now. But it doesn’t need to be the unhealthiest time of year for you and your family. Here are some top tips to ensure that you can keep healthy and fit, regardless of what the weather is like!
1. Make Sure That You Are Getting The Right Amount Of Sleep
It is recommended that we have seven to nine hours sleep however, a recent study found that most people are only getting six and a half hours each night! Its normal to adopt hibernating habits in the cold so use this time to catch up.
2. Drink More Milk
You are more likely to get a cold in the winter, so making sure your immune system is in the best possible condition is important. Milk and dairy products such as cheese, yoghurt and fromage frais are good sources of protein and vitamins A and B12. They're also an important source of calcium, which helps keep our bones strong. Try to go for semiskimmed or skimmed milk – rather than full-fat – and low-fat yoghurts.
3. Eat More Fruit And Veg
When it's cold and dark outside, it can be tempting to fill up on unhealthy comfort food, but it's important to ensure you still have a healthy diet and include five portions of fruit and veg a day. If you find yourself craving a sugary treat, try a juicy clementine or satsuma instead as these are readily available at this time of year, or sweet dried fruits such as dates or raisins. Winter vegetables such as carrots, parsnips, swede and turnips can be roasted, mashed or made into soup for a comforting winter meal for the whole family.
4. Try New Activities For The Whole Family
