Welcome to our December issue of I-Female magazine. I-Female started with a thought… I am, I can, I will, IFemale. A voice for women and young adults, I-Female was design to help inspire, motivate and encourage. We exist to help educate, empower and uplift women in areas such as entrepreneurial development. We also help to bring awareness to issues like domestic violence, depression and healthy living for both women and men. I-Female is a tribute to female empowerment; allow us to encourage you to not look at yourselves as victims or survivors but as strong women. December 1st is World AIDS Day. We are pleased this month, to have Andrea Johnson, Founder of Girl U Can Do It, Inc and the USA Positive Women’s Network Philadelphia Chapter on our cover “The Beautiful Faces of HIV.” Andrea shared with us a very inspiring story about her life and living with HIV. According to the CDC (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention) HIV (human immunodeficiency virus) infection has now spread to every country in the world. Statistics show that approximately 40 million people are currently living with HIV infection, and an estimated 25 million have died from this disease. The scourge of HIV has been particularly devastating in sub-Saharan Africa and South Africa, but infection rates in other countries remain high. In the United States, approximately 1 million people are currently infected.

Also in this month’s issue, you’ll read about “22 Things Happy People Do Differently” and “15 Easy Ways to Increase Productivity and Get More Done.” 2013 is upon us and as we prepare for the New Year, I-Female Magazine wishes you a wonderful and blessed holiday and New Year. We would like to thank our readers/fans! It is because of you that I-Female is real. here are two types of people in the world: those who choose to be happy, and those who choose to be unhappy. Contrary to popular belief, happiness doesn’t come from fame, fortune, other people, or material possessions. Rather, it comes from within. The richest person in the world could be miserable while a homeless person could be right outside, walking around with a spring in every step. Happy people are happy because they make themselves happy. They maintain a positive outlook on life and remain at peace with themselves.

8. Never make excuses. Benjamin Franklin once said, “He that is good for making excuses is seldom good for anything else.” Happy people don’t make excuses or blame others for their own failures in life. Instead, they own up to their mistakes and, by doing so, they proactively try to change for the better.

9. Get absorbed into the present. Happy people don’t dwell on the past or worry about the future. They savor the present. They let themselves get immersed in whatever they’re doing at the moment. Stop and smell the roses.

10. Wake up at the same time every morning.

12. Choose friends wisely. Misery loves company. That’s why it’s important to surround yourself with optimistic people who will encourage you to achieve your goals. The more positive energy you have around you, the better you will feel about yourself.

13. Never seek approval from others. Happy people don’t care what others think of them. They follow their own hearts without letting naysayers discourage them. They understand that it’s impossible to please everyone. Listen to what people have to say, but never seek anyone’s approval but your own.

t 41, I’ve lived a life with many struggles, many trials and many tribulations. Being an only child to a mother that died when I was 2 and having a father that cared more about satisfying his own needs and surrendering to the negatives of this world and abandoning me and many of my siblings he had by many

Thank God for grandparents, especially a loving and caring grandfather who did his best to show a young female child that was once broken how a man is to love a woman and helped me to put some of the pieces in my shattered mirror back into its place so that I could look into it and see clearly the awesome, beautiful, talented and strong creation my God created, which helped to equip me with the value of loving myself despite my adversities.

As I am older and growing wiser, I have come to realize that my whole life has been a testimony of faith, courage, strength, determination and appreciation that my God was setting me up for to help me to stay strong through one of the biggest challenges he knew I would soon face in my life. With my God’s continued love, I am conquering all battles as a solider in his army despite the heartaches, pains and demoralization I face, so that I can help his people, especially my beautiful people of color.

Have you ever had to face a monster in your life? Have you ever been beat by someone so violently that you fell numb to the pain being inflicted on you? Have you ever lost your rights and will to want to live due to another’s impositions upon you? Have you ever had to face an issue so horrific in your life that you just wanted to crawl into a corner, hide from the world and give up? As you read my story of falling and getting back up again, I pray that it is read with understanding, lessons to be learned and talked about and feelings of empowerment and the will and want to help with understanding those infected with and by HIV or any other life altering disease.

the Hilton Hotel on City Line Avenue in Philadelphia, PA on Mother’s Day 2006, I caught the eye of a man, a very beautiful and healthy looking man. At that point in my life, I was happy being single as I always loved myself and it didn’t bother me to be single because I lived a stress free and drama free life. I had all the love and support in whatever I did from my family and friends, so I was happy. My family and friends would always say to me “You need to find a man, someone to care for you,” and my response was always “when God is ready for me to have one, I will.” So when I caught the eye of this man, and he pursued me fiercely, I was wowed. You see, I haven’t had many relationships in my life by choice (4 total), and three are still friends to this day. Growing up, I saw many marriages and committed relationships broken up because of cheating spouses, abuse and per-

sons just becoming disinterested in each other. I always said to myself, I don’t want a man that lies, cheats and abuses me in any way, little did I know, I was getting involved with exactly that. I fell in love with this beautiful and what looked like a healthy man, who was 9 years, my senior. I thought with him being older and experiencing a lot in life that was a plus. He told me everything wonderful about himself, as well as a lot of the mistakes he made in his life and in his past relationships. I called myself working on the TRICC method (Trust, Respect, Intimacy, Communication and Commitment) with him. I did not judge him on his pass and accepted him as he was since I thought what he was telling me was the sincere truth as truth was something we both stressed upon. I starting thinking that I could help him live a better life now that he has taken responsibility for his past and was willing to work hard on his future, which looked as though it included me. Besides that he claimed to have accepted God and could preach the Bible to you like a preacher would in church. So now I really thought “WOW”, a God fearing man, we are going to make each other even better persons. So I thought!

On July 11, 2007, she told me something that would forever change my life, she told me I had HIV. I felt ashamed, scared, stupid, depressed, worthless and so angry that I wanted to kill myself.

s the months went on, things slowly but surely began to change. While doing his laundry, I found a woman’s

number in his pocket, whom I found out, was also married, and when I questioned him about it he said that she was someone that he met before me and that she lied about being married and that is why he had to break things off with her. Come to find out that was not

the truth as this same married woman continued to be problematic the whole time up until the end of our relationship. The horror was just beginning. I started finding numbers of other women. I kicked him out and vowed never to take him back. He called and called and came by my house and job and stated how sorry he was and that since I was a strong woman who he didn’t feel as though needed him, he felt he couldn’t talk to me about his feelings, so he would call his old female friends to talk to them about it and that these other females were only friends that he knew long before he met me. I started to doubt myself and thought, I know I have a strong personality, so maybe he did find it hard to talk to me. Big mistake on my part as I learned that I gave him the ok to continue to mistreat me and that if he was persistent and pleaded long and hard enough I would take him back, and he was right. I was too embarrassed to let my family know what was going on. I self doubted me in

thinking I was being too strong and not letting him be a man or so I let him make me believe that.

I never experienced anything like this and all I felt was embarrassment, shame and fear.

God was saying fool, I am showing you and you’re not listening. Then at the end of June, 2007, I caught this man in the act of cheating with the same female that was mentioned earlier that was married. I was so mad, hurt and embarrassed at all that I allowed myself to go through with this man, and so many more feeling ran through my head, like killing the both of them for making me feel this pain in my heart, but I regained my senses and realized they were not worth it. After catching them I made a doctor’s appointment to be checked for everything. My doctor and I had a great relationship and she was the only one I felt that I could really talk to about what I was enduring and she said to just leave, but I didn’t want to tell her that I had stepped into the next stage with this man of threats to harm me if I did.

I didn’t know who to turn to. My doctor took all kinds of tests on me including an HIV test. HIV was not in my thought process whatsoever, as this man looked and seemed one hundred percent healthy. My doctor called me right after the July 4th holiday and said that she needed to talk to me about something and to call her back right away. Of course I didn’t as I thought my hemoglobin was low as I suffer from anemia and I was trying to work as much overtime as possible to get my bills paid because I allowed this man to put me in a serious financial strain as well. She then called me again and demanded that I come in to see her ASAP. I said why, she said just come in.

o I went into the office and she had what looked like tears in her eyes and on July 11, 2007, she told me something that would forever change my life, she told me I had HIV. I felt ashamed, scared, stupid, depressed, worthless and so angry that I wanted to kill myself. How could I allow myself to be so stupid! My doctor was on top of everything. She had things set up for me before I even arrived or asked. My doctor and I called this man and I had her tell him as he acted like he didn’t believe me. His surprise was more like an “oh, is that it.” After that, I fell into an instant depression for about 3 weeks, but being the woman I am, I couldn’t stay depressed long. It was like God was saying, “I am not through with you yet.” I tried to distance myself from this man, but I couldn’t. From allowing him to manipulate me all this time, he knew how to honeymoon me and reel me back in. I think I was more afraid of him now, but didn’t want to let it

show for my daughter’s sake. I wouldn’t let her see the fear, but I was definitely afraid. Not only was I afraid, but I was angry, so angry. I took my anger to a level that I never thought I would be able to do, I started to email every friend, family member and person I knew to let them know that I had this dreadful disease and that I loved them enough for them to know that if it could happen to me it could happen to you. My doctor then put me in touch with people that would become my mentors and help me to begin to heal and help others while in the process. I was being strong for others and putting on the biggest face of everything being ok at home, but suffering in silence with this man. I fell into the mode of him stating that he needed me to survive, because he said that without me, he would be nothing, and that he would never see me with someone else. He also promised for the last time that he would change and that he would work hard to make sure he provided well

for his family. I thought since I have this disease, no one is going to want me now, what do I really have to lose. So on February 28, 2008, after being pressured and giving in, we got married. I felt even more shameful and depressed as I married someone that I did not trust and really did not love. At this point in my life with this disease I just wanted someone, a man, to love me and if it meant forgiving him even though I didn’t truly love him, it meant I wouldn’t be lonely and have to go through this alone. I didn’t even tell my family I got married. I tried to make the best of the situation I got myself into again with this man. In my mind I thought since we both have this dreadful disease, maybe he will straighten up and do right now. I told him that if I found out he was unfaithful again, especially while we are now married, I would be through with him. He promised that he was starting anew with us.

I never thought I would be associated with anything like this in my life. I always saw others and heard stories of persons that went through similar nightmares, but I never thought it would happen to me. It was like a bad dream that kept getting worse. I later found out that this man cheated on our wedding day. After he began to display some of his old habits, I searched his possessions. I found a cell phone that I didn’t know he had.

You are now empowered to accept only paid-in-full checks that will leave your inner self flowing in positive cash flow. You have a better understanding that when you put in hours, you must get paid. Don’t waste your time; life is too precious so don’t get paid minimum wage, set out for what you are worth, and take no prisoners. You are now refreshed and have a clear mind, can think, and will start accepting checks that are worth your time. When businesses are in the process of failing, they seek out help from banks or other investors that will bring them out of the bottom and hopefully save their company. During President Obama’s campaign, he was captured by millions of people for his speech that entailed a six letter word: CHANGE. President Obama continues to strive for these six powerful words by pressing a determined plan to rehabilitate education, energy, financial control, and health care. Change is making an adjustment in any situation or plan, correcting or altering the old way into a new form that will make it easier. When I think of change, the first thing that comes to mind is manage, able to take control. Kristen has a great professional career, owns two homes, and is in the process of beginning her own business. Writing a business plan you must identify your business, know your market, and have a key focus on target customers. If you know anything about a business plan, you must have a mission statement, or mantra. A mission statement tells who your company is, what you stand for, what you do, and why you do it in less than 30 seconds. Do you ever feel like there aren’t enough hours in the day to get everything done that you need to do? Most people have felt this way in the past or feel that way right now. It’s an extremely common feeling, but most people don’t know how to solve the problem. You can’t stop time to get more done, but there are little things you can do each day to free up some of your time and be more productive. Below are 15 easy ways you can increase productivity and get more done. It’s important to point out that, each of the tips in this list won’t work for every person. Find the strategies that work for you, and you’ll find more time to get things done each day. 1. Get up earlier. It really is that simple. Set your alarm clock ten minutes earlier each day for a week. At the end of the week, you’ll be getting up over an hour earlier than you did the week before, but you’ll have time to adjust to the new schedule. You’d be amazed how much more you can get done with an extra hour each morning. 2. Get to work thirty minutes earlier than everyone else. If you can get into your office or workplace just a half hour earlier than anyone else, you’ll be able to accomplish an hour’s worth of work. The reason is simple — you’ll have no distractions. Getting to work early when fewer people are there is far more effective in terms of boosting your productivity than staying late when the office is still filled with people. 3. Create daily to do lists. To do lists are critical for boosting productivity.
