ANNUAL CHAMBER EVENTS The Chamber offers a number of opportunities for you to meet and connect with other business leaders. Save the date for Chamber-sponsored and member-sponsored events. Some of examples of our annual events:
I-94 WEST CORRIDOR COALITION The I-94 West Corridor Coalition comprises businesses, individuals, and government agencies committed to improving I-94 and its support facilities. Our mission is to provide a strong, united voice advocating for transportation concerns along the I-94 corridor, from Maple Grove to St. Cloud. Our growing communities require foresight, planning, and relentless advocacy to ensure that Central Minnesota’s transportation needs are not forgotten. We’ve experienced major success over the past years, which include: •
•
6
The opening of additional lanes between Highway 101 in Rogers and Highway 241 in St. Michael, which have resulted in a 55% reduction in total travel delay and the completion of nearly 3 million square feet of new industrial development in the region. Trunk Highway 610 receiving $13 million from the 2020 bonding bill for road improvements between TH 610 and I-94, and the extension to County Road 30. The completion of TH 610 connections to I-94 and to County Road 30 in Maple Grove is critical to our regional transportation system.
Continuing the mission will require that projects currently funded but unfinished will receive the nearly $400 million allocated in a timely fashion to ensure they are completed.
These funded but unfinished priority projects along the I-94 West Corridor include: • • • • •
Completion of Highway 610 in Maple Grove that connects I-94 and County Road 30 in Maple Grove Added lanes between Highway 610 in Maple Grove and Highway 101 in Rogers A new I-94 Interchange at Dayton Parkway (aka Brockton) in Dayton Added lanes and improved interchanges between Highway 241 in St. Michael and County Hwy 37/19 in Albertville Added lanes between Highway 25 in Monticello and Highway 24 in Clearwater
In addition, the coalition will continue to seek all funding options to expand I-94 from 4 to 6 lanes in the gap from Albertville to Monticello. This will include urging MnDOT to reapply for BUILD Grant Funding and assist in securing Federal USDOT Agency support/selection for these applications. Connect with us @ greenlight94.com/ Facebook(https://www.facebook.com/i94coalition) Twitter (@GL94MN)
showing our appreciation for what they do to keep us safe and respond to emergencies. Each year, we give back 50% of our net proceeds from this event to Minnesota Fallen Firefighters Association (MNFFA), Law Enforcement Memorial Association (LEMA), and The Frontline Foundation.
Did you know the I-94 West Chamber of Commerce has a long history of giving back to our communities? From recognition and scholarships to awards and sponsored drives, we have found a number of unique ways to support those who need or deserve it in our region. As a business centered organization, we understand the effort and hard work businesses and employees put into doing GREAT things. Not only do we recognize outstanding leaders and businesses at our Circle of Excellence Awards, we also show appreciation and support for others in our communities. For many years, the I-94 West Chamber of Commerce has recognized those who serve at our First Responders Luncheon each May. This event reminds us of how close we are to someone who is a Paramedic/EMT, Dispatcher, Law Enforcement Officer, or Firefighter. Their dedication to helping others in need is paramount for any community. It is vital that we spend time positively recognizing them for their efforts and Aspire
I94 Gives
We also see the importance of our future workforce. Each year, we award area high school students scholarships as they enter their next phase in life. Awards include five scholarships and recognition by the Chamber at an event. We find it incredible that so many families in our region are in need, especially around the holidays. Several years ago, we began supporting the Caring for Kids Toy Drive (through Hanover Food Shelf) at our annual holiday event. In 2019, we added CROSS to that list. Hosting a Holiday luncheon at the Rogers Community Room, we were able to collect approximately 200 toys, hats & mittens to help make winter warmer and merrier for kids served by both organizations. Our Chamber is a growing organization of productive leaders constantly evolving to meet the needs of our business community in new and engaging ways. Our membership is extremely supportive of the communities where they work and we are proud of their efforts to support each one of these opportunities to give back.

Now Osseo Area Schools High School and Middle Schools boast some of top educators and student achievements in the state. St. Michael is a growing community of 18,000 people and a multitude of thriving businesses. Located along I-94, St. Michael is only 25 minutes to downtown Minneapolis and 35 minutes to St. Cloud. This convenient location provides easy access for residents and all types of businesses. St. Michael has retained much of its small-town values with great schools, hard-working residents, abundant open space, and safe neighborhoods.
FOUR REASONS TO LIVE, WORK & PLAY IN ST. MICHAEL TOP-RANKED SCHOOLS
Residents of St. Michael attend Buffalo, Elk River, or St. Michael-Albertville (STMA) school districts, all of which are wellrespected and excel in academics, arts, and athletics. For example, recently released statewide test results in reading, math, and science show STMA students rank in the top 4.4% in reading, top 3.2% in math, and top 4% in science. In all three combined subjects, STMA students ranked in the top 3.2% in the State of Minnesota.
PARKS & OPEN SPACE St. Michael has an extensive park system with miles of paved trails, numerous lakes, and is home to Fox Hollow golf course. The City recently built a new Town Center Park in the City Center area which features a splash pad, unique playground, concessions, pavilion, pickle ball courts. The community is also fortunate to have convenient access to the Pelican Lake State Wildlife Area, Beebe Lake Regional Park, and Crow Hassan Park Reserve, which accommodate an abundance of recreational and outdoor activities.
CITY CENTER AMENITIES
The City Center’s newer Library and Crow River Senior Center provide year-round opportunities to stay active and involved in the community. This is also the location for the new the annual Daze & Knights Festival in early August. Learn more at: stmdazeandknightsfestival.com.
BUSINESS CLIMATE The city works hard to promote a positive climate for both large and small businesses, including maintaining one of the lowest city tax rates in the area. Some of the city’s larger employers include J & B Group (think “No Name Steaks”), Cub Foods, PCi Roads, Marksman Metals, New Plastics Plus, Die Tech, and Rachel Contracting. Working with Shop STMA, I-94 West Chamber, Wright County Economic Development Partnership, and others, the city makes sure businesses have what they need to succeed and prosper.

but our slogan of “Healing the Planet one Garden at a Time” truly came into play. Everyone wanted to garden and our guests personally felt the healing benefit of Mother Earth. Additional silver linings for us include launching our GrowHaus Online Shoppe and the fact that with strict Covid 19 safety protocols in place we experienced significantly less sick days for our team. We increased and improved our level of internal communications as we frequently checked in to understand how they were personally feeling about the state of the world. We sent monthly emails to not only update everyone on the pivots that we were making but to provide support and inspiration. Our 2021 slogan to “Make a Difference”, will be employed all season long through plants, education and experiences.
Mortgages Unlimited, Bob Streitz I was among the lucky ones. The housing market remained strong with rates still at historic lows. But there is more to success than low rates in this industry. The behindthe-scenes work of staff also experienced a metamorphosis. Our processors, closers, underwriters, disclosure and legal teams, front desk and back office folks all learned to do their jobs in other ways, from other places and seamlessly. Old processes were challenged with new requirements. We Zoom together when we can’t room together and remain fully-functioning. I also realize and recognize what it means to be a part of another team, the I-94 West Chamber. The staff at I-94 also found new ways to keep businesses connected. Emails contained more info and shared links to events, training, opportunities and new members. The calls with questions and referrals from fellow chamber ambassadors never stopped and remain a big part of my business’ life blood. And for that I am also thankful and remain one of the lucky ones. Aspire
Strike Fitness Owner Mark Royce was interviewed by The Epoch Times for an article that ran under the headline: Boxing Club Owner Pushed to Brink: ‘I Have Nothing Left to Lose’. Much of the content here is taken from that article. Royce and his wife began 2020 with three boxing clubs and a yoga studio. All four businesses were flourishing however by the end of 2020 they had one barelysurviving boxing gym and the yoga studio was squeaking by. They’d been forced to sell two gyms for little to nothing just to get out of the leases. Gyms and fitness centers have been one of the hardest hit industries. Royce told the paper “I’m fed up and I’m done. I have nothing left. They’ve taken everything from us. They destroyed our business this year. Not a virus. Because that [big box store] is booming.” Meanwhile Royce was down 72 percent and he and his wife haven’t taken a paycheck in a year. Royce, outraged by what he sees as arbitrary orders from the governor is frustrated that friends in Stillwater can drive across the border and work out in Hudson. “People need to live, they have a right to run their business, support their employees, their staff.”

Simonson’s Salon & Spa 2020 was especially challenging for the salon and spa industry. Starting on March 18 when the clarification came that all salon’s and spa’s were to be closed, the Simonson’s team was thrown into limbo and pressured to rapidly adjust to these changes. There were thousands of guest appointments to reschedule, but that didn’t stop us from providing online ordering, as well as the creation of a blog series “Maintenance Outside the Salon”. When the word came that salon’s and spas were able to reopen with limited capacity and heightened sanitation protocols, Simonson’s was fortunate enough to have enough space as well as already having one of the leading sanitation protocols. However, we took this opportunity to increase our team’s sanitation education and introduced new products, services and experiences that could deliver essential relaxation and health benefits. We also have to recognize the challenges that the Simonson’s technicians faced. Our entire team has taken everything in stride and Simonson’s plans on being around for our guests and community for many years to come! Thank you to all who stood by us and supported us, we couldn’t have done it without all of you!

Equity Source Mortgage While many experienced extreme or catastrophic business loss in 2020, Equity Source Mortgage saw a dramatic increase in business as a result of low mortgage interest rates in 2020. Our commitment to keep an eye on saving our clients money and helping them get their financial “house in order” is of utmost importance to us during uncertain events such as what we have experienced with COVID-19. As predicted earlier this year, we have seen an uptick in divorce related inquiries that has a direct impact to refinancing needs. Our experience with these types of transactions has become a strong niche for us over the years as they come with complications not all mortgage professionals are equipped to deal with. The chaos we have experienced has also forced us to look at our processes internally and make some adjustments that are better and more efficient. The most difficult change for us is not physically attending our customer’s closings. Having in person contact is such a big part of reminding them they are more than a number to us--they are people with stories, dreams, and life changes. We look forward to visiting with people in person again and returning to a sense of normalcy.
