IBB AT HOME WELCOME I SPRING 2016
Welcome to the spring issue of IBB at Home! The first part of 2016 has been a busy and exciting time at IBB Design Fine Furnishings, and I have a lot of good news to share (I must brag a little) regarding our team! Shay Geyer, my daughter and co-owner of IBB Design, is nominated for Traditional Home’s Rising Stars of Design Award! It’s a national search, and such an honor for her and all of us at IBB. James “JT” Turner is nominated for Best Interior Designer by Fashion Group International of Dallas. We are delighted for JT to be recognized for the amazing work he does for his clients. Kevin Twitty’s work was recently featured on CandysDirt. com, the top real estate blog in the Dallas Metroplex. His home’s kitchen design was highlighted on ‘2016 Kitchen Trends’. You must check out the blog to see his colorful back splash. It’s truly an understatement to say I’m proud of our team of talented designers. And, our team of designers has grown! Michael Reese and Pam Hood both recently joined IBB Design. Michael and Pam bring decades of excellent design experience to our team and we couldn’t be happier to have them on board. While we have been busy at the store, we’re online too! You can now shop IBB Design gift and accessory items via Shoptiques, an online destination featuring curated boutiques and specialty stores. It’s been a lot of fun for us to see IBB Design fans across the country purchasing online. Visit http://IBB-Design.shoptiques. com to see what it’s all about. Now, get ready for some design inspiration from our team, and check out page 53 for a sneak peek at our Shoptiques online boutique.

Tip: Always sample the paint in your space before diving in and painting the entire room. Just because it looks fabulous in your friend’s home, doesn’t mean it will look equally as stunning in yours. There are many factors which can influence how paint looks in a space. TIPS TO KEEP YOUR HOME AT ITS BEST Buying a new home is such an exciting time – many times it means a fresh coat of paint and new furniture! At IBB Design, we’re here to help you create your dream home and want it to look its best for years to come.
HERE ARE 10 TIPS TO KEEP YOUR HOME LOOKING FABULOUS AND FRESH LONG AFTER YOU HAVE MOVED IN.
1
Take care of wood surfaces. Throw out damaging silicon-based cleaners, and use a natural oil treatment such as Old English or Mohawk Furniture Polish.
2
Condition your leather surfaces. Johnson & Johnson’s pink baby lotion is a great leather conditioner – simple apply it with a soft cloth. Remember! Never treat Nubuck leather.
3
Store your dining table leaves horizontally. If stored upright, they could warp overtime.
4
Rotate and vacuum your sofa and chair cushions quarterly for balanced wear.
5
Utilize rug pads on hardwood floors to extend the life of rug(s) and protect flooring.
6
Rotate your rug(s) annually to ensure they wear evenly and avoid sun damage.
7
Preserve the life of rugs and carpeting by vacuuming regularly.
8
Seal grout lines, granite and marble countertops yearly to avoid stains and water damage.
9
Thoroughly inspect and clean outdoor furniture each spring.
10
Buy high-quality furniture! It’s always best to buy the best quality you can afford, because it can last a lifetime when properly maintained.
DESIGNER TIP: Read furniture care labels BEFORE something happens, so you know how to care for the piece. Always test your product application first, in an inconspicuous area, to ensure it doesn’t discolor or damage fabric.

DESIGNER TIPS
BY JAMES “JT” TURNER IBB Designer james@ibbdesign.com @jrt1175 on Instagram
THE IMPORTANCE OF
SCALE IN DESIGN
Proper scale and proportion is key to any room’s visual appeal and functionality. Having a piece of furniture too small or oversize can really throw things off and out of balance! Hanging a small piece of art over a large-scale sofa is disproportionate. Instead, go with one large piece or if you are a fan of smaller pieces, pair or group a variety of sizes in the same color scheme or subject matter. This will add more visual weight and balance the sofa.
Let’s talk lamps! I love a largescale lamp, but more often I see lamps which are much too small for the light needed in the space. A prime example is on a bedside table. A small bookshelf lamp is not enough next to a tall headboard or ceiling. Instead, beef it up and let it be seen! When it comes to floor covering, most living room rugs should be at least 8’ x 11’ in size. In some homes, even a 9’ x 12’ may be the minimum. As for positioning, it is fine if the front feet of a sofa are
on the rug and the back are off. A good rule of thumb is to leave 18 to 24” from the edge of the rug and the wall – on all sides if possible, essentially framing the furniture arrangement. Don’t shy away from putting a large scale statement piece in a room – having pieces of varying shapes and sizes makes a room interesting. If everything is the same size, the room can feel one dimensional.
Home.

a purposeful home office Today, many homes are built to include a home office. But how often do we really use the space for only work tasks, like preparing a presentation or hosting a conference call? Chances are, your family’s needs for the space are much greater, and accommodating them would allow you to utilize and enjoy your home office more often. Instead, design a space which allows you to catch up on email and the kids to work on homework, while also functioning as a comfortable spot to curl up with a good book (or nap!). Resist the urge to put a desk front and center, whereby limiting the use of the room. By adding a cozy sofa or an oversized pair of chairs, the functionality of the space has improved. Putting the desk against a
wall or behind a sofa allows you to truly utilize the room. Carry the comforts and existing design elements of your home into the office with lighting, accessories and great throw pillows.
YOUR OFFICE SHOULDN'T BE BARE AND STALE - RATHER AN ADDITIONAL LIVING SPACE FOR YOUR FAMILY. By simply reconfiguring your home office, you can increase its value, and create a cozy and functional gathering area which your family will love.

PENTHOUSE
CHIC
The Penthouse Floor of The Residences at The Highland, a sophisticated urban resort, was a recent commercial project of IBB Design which I was thrilled to work on with our owners Beth Rafferty and Shay Geyer. The views of downtown Dallas are exquisite from The Highland Penthouse Floor and served as an inspiration for our design. We wanted to create a beautiful space which was also comfortable and functional. Through durable, commercial-grade floors and wall treatments, and plush luxurious fabrics with hints of sparkle and shimmers of gold and silver, we did just that. From the circular splashes of light cast on the dimensional modern version of moirĂŠ walls to the overlapping gold circles on the antiqued silver-leaf mirrors, curvature helped navigate this space through
the past and reimagine its present. The circular motif is repeated through other accessories, like the highlyreflective, gold-leafed and spiraling lamps, and the concentric circles on the classically robust credenza. Custom wall sconces and gem-like agate accessories give a striking, lavishly equipped feel with high-back swivel chairs to envelope and invite you to stay awhile. Art played a distinctive role in melding together the commercial/residential feel with a selection of extralarge GiclĂŠe, timeless eglomise, explosive gold bursts of three-dimensional sculpture and original mixed media and oils. The powerful art selections give personality to the space. Art should draw you in and make you feel a particular way. The Penthouse Floor evokes a sophisticated luxe feeling which captures you from the moment you step off the elevator.

COVER STORY INTERIOR DESIGN Shay Geyer PHOTOGRAPHY Dan Piassick
As you enter this stunning 10,000square-foot home, you'll immediately feel a smile emerge upon your face. The crisp palette and bursts of color can't help but evoke a sense of happiness. That was exactly the request the homeowners had when they contacted Shay Geyer to design their young family's home. The open formal living room offers views to the expansive backyard resort and is the first room you see as you enter the home. Navy and teal were paired with cream and mixed metals to offer a touch of glam. The built-in arched bookcases are painted in a high-gloss teal to add depth to the fireplace area. The abstract art above the fireplace makes an impactful design statement in the room.
color me happy IBB AT HOME 23
The entry features a rich navy chest with white marble. A grand arched mirror showcases the tall ceilings and abstract artwork provides a glimpse of the palette in the adjoining formal living room. The foyer features a magnificent curved wrought iron staircase. The large center hall table is a sentimental piece from their previous home. A pair of ottomans offer additional seating for when they entertain guests. An art installation of gold leafed starbursts, adorned in minerals, fill the staircase wall.
IBB AT HOME 25
The study, located in the front of the home, serves as an office for the family. White paneled walls surround the room and offer contrast to the navy and white patterned drapery. Navy grasscloth wallpaper was hung above the paneling to add a more rich blue hue to the space. A glass and chrome writing desk and an artisan executive desk chair were selected for the work space, with a pair of navy velvet swivel chairs to create a comfy sitting area. The formal dining room is a favorite amongst family and friends. The hand-painted wallpaper was inspiration for the room's design. Velvet host and hostess chairs, in a rich cobalt blue, head the table while chippendale-style chairs, in a custom metallic finish, were selected as side chairs. A rich gold trim tape graces the leading edge of pleated drapery panels. A mirrored buffet bounces natural light around the room and offers storage and service areas.
IBB AT HOME 27
Comfortable and optimal seating were the two biggest requests for the family room. A gray sofa with a chaise lounge, pair of swivel chairs, and a chair and ottoman offer everyone in the family a cozy spot. Ottomans were also placed in front of the fireplace for additional seating. Pattern was brought into the room with the rug and zig-zag cut velvet on the swivel chairs. Pops of chartreuse, blue and fuchsia disperse bold color throughout the room.
IBB AT HOME 29
The color continues into the breakfast nook. Fuchsia chairs surround a wood and glass dining table. Abstract artwork contains an array of colors that nod back to the palette in the fabric valence over the kitchen window.
IBB AT HOME 31
The large kitchen with double islands has a crisp palette of white and gray. Swivel counter stools were covered in a gray textured vinyl. It's the perfect familyfriendly option as spills can be easily wiped up. The kitchen window valence brings in a bold pop of color and ties in with the adjoining catering kitchen.
IBB AT HOME 33
A gorgeous large scaled floral motif wallpaper was selected to use in the home's catering kitchen. It's fresh vibrant feel is the perfect backdrop for making snacks and working at the built-in desk area.
IBB AT HOME 35
One of the daughter's bedrooms is another favorite room in the home. The design was influenced by her love for horses. The wallpaper was an extraordinary find and used to select coordinating fabrics and other design elements. A shadow box of awards and ribbons and a photo canvas of her with her horse were grouped over the swivel chair, while the drapery and bedding were designed with the princess in mind. Panels hang over the bed with her name monogrammed on the cornice. Every detail was thoughtful and personalized.
IBB AT HOME IBB AT HOME 37
IT'S THE PERFECT SPOT TO TAKE IN THE VIEW AND ENJOY A CUP OF COFFEE.
The master bedroom features a serene palette of soft blue, gray, white and cream. An embellished geometric wallpaper presents a glamorous backdrop for the bed. The windows are dressed in embroidered linen panels hung on Lucite drapery rods. Quartz lamps sit atop each of the gray painted night stands. The mirror shape plays perfectly with the lines of the wallpaper pattern, while a gorgeous piece of abstract artwork hangs above a console and works perfectly with the palette of the room. The large master retreat offers ample seating with a sectional and club chair. It's the perfect spot to admire the view or enjoy a cup of coffee.
IBB AT HOME 39
The serene blue continues into the large master bath. A star-shaped ottoman, centered in the room, serves as a place to put your shoes on and chat with the kids. Embroidered linen is one of the homeowner's favorite fabrics, so we made it a focal point on functional roman shades as you enter the room.

BOLDCONTRAST HIGHLAND HOMES MODEL HOME WILDRIDGE SUBDIVISION IN OAK POINT, TX DESIGNED BY IBB DESIGN FINE FURNISHINGS LEAD DESIGNERS: BETH RAFFERTY & SUSAN NEFF
IBB Design Fine Furnishings has proudly designed Highland Homes’ model homes for more than 25 years. One of our most recent installations is a brand new model in the Wildridge subdivision, where the IBB Design team is thrilled to have received rave reviews on the design elements used in this project. The goal of the design for this model home was to create memorable spaces through bold contrast and color with a palette of navy, orange and white.
FOYER & STUDY Bright and bold orange painted walls provide a cheerful welcome into the home. Large-scaled abstract artwork leads you up the staircase and showcases the soaring ceilings. A metal and stone top console fills the space beneath the staircase.
Rich navy and crisp white were used in the study. The walls were painted navy and provide beautiful contrast with the white linen drapery panels and white cabinetry. Â
IBB AT HOME 43
DINING ROOM The dining room is open onto the family room area which also carries the orange, navy and white color palette. A striped rug offers a modern pattern under the wood dining table and white dining chairs. Orange and white patterned drapery panels dress the windows and add a pop of color to the walls.
FAMILY ROOM The family room offers ample seating with a sofa, two club chairs and large wing chair. The color palette is dispersed throughout the room in the upholstery, accessories and drapery panels.
IBB AT HOME 45
KITCHEN The kitchen features a high contrast design of richly stained wood cabinetry with white countertops and backsplash. Striped counter stools play off of the striped rug in the breakfast nook.
MASTER SUITE In the master bedroom, a white upholstered bed is bold and beautiful in front of the rich navy walls. The crisp palette offers a very soothing and serene atmosphere. Blue is said to have calming properties, and therefore makes a great choice for bedrooms. White sheer
drapery panels hang gracefully, framing the windows and giving a soft airy feel to the room. Abstract artwork above the bed makes a beautiful statement.
IBB AT HOME 47
SECONDARY ROOMS
One of the most talked about rooms in the home is the nursery. Striped walls, custom bedding and artwork make it a truly special room. In the boy's room, a score board hangs above the bed for a fun personalized statement. The girl's room also features the navy, orange and white palette.
GAME ROOM
Project: Highland Homes Wildridge Photos Courtesy of Highland Homes
The game room, media room and kids' area is designed for loads of family fun. The open concept offers the perfect setup for entertaining, while a cozy sectional is also a welcoming spot for movie night. The single stripe design of the drapery panels was leveraged and painted around the room as a fun decorating element.

KIDS’ CORNER Interior Design by Shay Geyer Written by Jaylie Geyer Photography by Dan Piassick
Everything has a place, so it’s much easier to keep my room tidy and that makes my mom really happy!
In the last issue, we gave you a sneak peek into the design plan for my new bedroom. I asked my mom to design a room which would give me more storage, and use my love for all things Kate Spade to inspire the room’s color palette and details. She decided to chronicle my room transformation as part of the “One Room Challenge”, a six-week, nationwide, blogger room makeover event created by Calling it Home. I’m so excited with how it turned out! It was even featured by House Beautiful magazine! When my friends come over, we hang out on the striped day bed. It’s also the perfect spot for a friend to sleep when I’m having a sleepover. Sometimes my little sister sleeps there too, when she wants to sleep in my room with me. Most nights I sleep up in the bunk, but sometimes I sleep on the day bed. My mom really thought of every detail to tie in the Kate Spade look. I love the bow design on the bunk bed safety rail. The window treatments, designed to look like store awnings, are
another one of my favorite elements. My new room has so much more storage. Everything has a place, so it’s much easier to keep my room tidy and that makes my mom really happy! The closet underneath my bunk is twice as big as my old closet, and I love having my shoes organized so cute. The vanity area is my favorite spot. I love having a place to sit and do my hair to get ready for school and dance. There’s a lot more storage in there too, and it’s perfect for all of my dance clothes. My bathroom functions so much better now. I love how my mom used the penny round tile in my favorite color on my vanity wall, and stripes in my shower. I also love having a bench and shower wand instead of a bathtub. Thank you so much for letting me share my new room with you, and a huge thank you to my mom for designing the perfect space for me!
