Here are a few design tips to keep in mind when you are planning your rooms:
Leave enough space to walk around the furniture in your room. It will make your room feel more inviting. If your furniture is too big for your space, it will make your room seem smaller.
Make sure your area rug is large enough to go under at least all of the front legs of your furniture in a sitting area. This will make your room feel pulled together. If your furniture is floating in the center of your room, a rug that also goes under the back legs will make your room feel bigger.
BY PAM HOOD, IBB DESIGNER pam@ibbdesign.com Photography by Audrie DollinsHang your artwork with the center at your eye level or the average of you and your partner. Average eye level is 57” off the floor. When artwork is centered at eye level, your guests can view it comfortably, and it will make your room feel cozier.
Don’t buy matching furniture sets. Choose finishes that complement each other like wood stain or painted pieces. This helps create a collected-overtime look.
Don’t have everything the same height. Vary the height of accessories on an etagere or cocktail table. Different heights will create interest when the eye moves around the room.
ETAGERE Styling 101
BY SHANNON GIDNEY, IBB DESIGNER & SALES MANAGERshannon@ibbdesign.com
@designershannongidneyibb on Instagram
Etageres became popular in France in the late 18th century, and we still cherish them today for their beauty. They offer a nice backdrop for displaying meaningful items, treasures collected in our travels, and a host of other accessories. Styling one can be intimidating for sure!
I like to start with my larger objects and then work everything around those, while paying attention to negative or blank areas. It is important to give the eye a place to rest. Generally, the bulkiest items rest near the bottom shelves to achieve a nice balance.
Layering in artwork is always a home run. This is a great way to add interest and color. It also helps to create layers within the shelves. Framed photographs fall into this same category, which help to personalize the space and evoke memories.
Books are a must, too. I love arranging them in nontraditional ways, even turning the pages to face outward instead of spines showing, especially if the spines don’t complement my chosen color palette. I do feel it’s important to pay special attention to their colors, ensuring they flow with the room. Layering stacks of books and arranging them vertically and horizontally keeps things interesting, too. I like to use unexpected items as bookends to help organize them.
Lastly, a little bit of repetition goes a long way in styling your etagere. Try to group smaller, like items so that it doesn’t read as clutter. Boxes are very helpful in adding height as well as hidden storage. Unique bowls or vessels can aid in displaying those smaller type items as well.
Photo by Audrie DollinsFRESHEN UP YOURLiving room.
BY KAY LEWIS, IBB DESIGNER kay@ibbdesign.com @mkaylewis on Instagram Photography by Audrie DollinsWe notice all those little things when we are forced to stay indoors for the winter months-things that we have just put off and that are now screaming for our attention.
There’s nothing like a fresh coat of paint to spruce up a living room. The freshness and cleanliness are so uplifting even if it is the same color. Painting prompts you to clean your crown moldings and baseboards and to address general maintenance issues.
Rearranging and cleaning accessories can also bring a new life to some of your accessories. But honestly, accessories need to be added to and updated even though there is nothing “wrong” with them. You grow weary of looking at the same ones.
Re-stylize a bookcase by taking everything off and starting fresh. Relocate accessories from other rooms, declutter, and add some new personality. Clutter creates anxiety and stress. It affects your ability to focus. That basically means if you are living in a cluttered home, your environment could be taking a toll on your wellbeing and overall health.
Not sure where to start? Start simple. Add some pillows and a new throw. Move the candlesticks from the dining room to your living room mantle. And build off each step as you gain your confidence. But remember, we at IBB are always here to help!
MetalsMixing
Mixing metals is no longer considered a faux pas in the design world. The juxtaposition between the warm, golden tones of brass and gold and the cool tones of stainless steel and brushed nickel blends beautifully. The combination can create a harmonious mix that is interesting and highlights the contrast between the elements.
Clients often ask whether it is okay to mix metals in their homes. This question was my inspiration for designing this primary bedroom and sitting area, showing that mixing metals as well as incorporating different textures can add warmth and luxury to your space.
It is best to choose your favorite metal and make it the dominant one you use throughout. The area rug was
BY ANGELA DAVIDSON, IBB DESIGNER angela@ibbdesign.com Photography by Dan Piassickchosen because of the beautiful blend of gold, silver, cream, and gun metal gray and became the anchor piece in the primary bedroom. Since the rug had a lot of warm gold, the subtle champagne, gold, and black diamond pattern on the bedding was chosen to add texture to blend with the rug. The metallic gray leather chairs with gold legs add sophistication to the sitting space and were paired with a small end table with a marble top with a matte bronze base. Wood was introduced on the nightstand, bedside table, and on the trim of the headboard and helps to add warmth to the room. Throughout the space, different textures and coordinating colors were used on accessories, bedding, pillows, artwork, and draperies to make the room feel more cohesive and inviting.
GEYER GIRLS Glam Room
Being a mom of two girls and a designer who wants each space in a home to be not only aesthetically fabulous, but also functional for daily life, I began to rethink a few of the rooms in our home. As our girls have gotten older, their needs have changed. Brookie’s bedroom is great, but her closet is tiny. As she has grown, her clothes take up more space,

Renderings by Daniel M. Chavezneed for more organized storage.
After considering rooms in our home that weren’t functioning for our family, I landed on repurposing our upstairs guest bedroom. That bedroom was only used once or twice a year and was the perfect space to transform into a closet/glam room for Jaylie and Brookie.
The girls decided on a palette of bright sky blue, white, black, and pink. The cabinetry in the room is painted in Sherwin-Williams Something Blue. I designed a custom wallpaper for them to use on the ceiling of the closet, the walls inside the accessory closet, and on the walls of the vanity area in the bathroom.
I designed cabinetry to transform the bedroom into a closet to organize their clothes. We also allocated space for a salon chair with a full-length mirror. During the pandemic, our hairstylist started coming to our home, and with our crazy schedules, we decided to keep it that way ever since. This space gives us a designated area to maintain our entire family’s hair needs with at-home convenience. It’s
a true luxury, especially given the way we balance work and family.
Another fun reason for this room was how our girls would use it with their friends. As Jaylie has grown up, her friends have always come to our home to get dressed for special occasions. We considered that when planning the makeup vanity that seats two and added a long bench in the center of the room for extra
seating. The bathroom area also accommodates one sitting and two standing when getting ready. We look forward to the days Brookie shares the space with her friends as they grow up.
We turned the existing closet into an accessory closet to house shoes, bags, and jewelry.
Adjustable shelving will house their shoes and handbags. Pull-out racks and drawers will provide storage for jewelry and other accessories.
We can’t wait for the transformation and to share the big reveal with you!
T imeless "TREND"T imeless "TREND"
BY JORY GATTIS, IBB DESIGNER jory@ibbdesign.com | @jorya.gattis on Instagram Photo by Dan PiassickAnyone who has worked with me knows that I’m not an advocate of investing in trends, opting instead for great timeless staples and things that one loves. That being said, one “trend” that I’m seeing more of these last few years is a shift away from contemporary
minimalism and back to pieces with character and layering throughout.
This must be one of the most fun spaces I’ve had the pleasure of creating, mainly because it was such a departure from other things I’ve done in the last few
years. I anchored this space with a beautiful Pakistani hand knotted Persian Heriz-style rug that I sourced from a local rug gallery. I always love to bring in a rug that has some personality - even in the most contemporary of spaces. A rug with some character adds tons of warmth and life to a design.
From there, I went crazy and started layering. Leather and mohair and zebra oh my! When working with
new-traditional styling, it’s much easier to mix and match to create a curated feel, while keeping things a little elevated and polished. Ginger jars and found objects juxtapose simple picture frames and boxes, while stacks of books bring height variations and add extra character. Topping things off with some focal artwork and fresh flowers crown the space to really make it come to life!

Five Tips to Create a Welcoming Guest Bedroom
BY RITA SKAGERBERG, IBB VISUAL MERCHANDISER rita@ibbdesign.com Photography by Audrie DollinsThe holidays are upon us, and there are so many fantastic reasons to have overnight guests. Family and friends welcome the idea of not having to spend this cherished season in a sterile hotel away from all the action of family and fun. Here are my Top Five Tips to ensure your guests feel as if they just stepped into a home away from home.
Tip Number One: Provide s p a c e
Clear out spaces for guests to unpack their stuff. No one likes living out of a suitcase, so having an extra wardrobe, closet space, or even the surface of a dresser clean and cleared off is important. It’s awkward for guests to move your personal stuff out of the way to make room for their items, so make sure there are a few EMPTY spaces and places. Guests will greatly appreciate having somewhere to unpack items in an orderly fashion. If the space won't allow for a full dresser or chest of drawers, utilize a bench at the foot of the bed for propping up suitcases or for setting down extra luggage when not in use. The less clutter, the better for everyone!
Tip Number Two: Home is where the Wifi Connects Automatically
Anticipate your guests’ needs by having your Wifi password and network name prominently posted in your guest room. In today’s world, no one exists without a Wifi connection, and no one likes bugging hosts for the password that looks like a long typo. Display the information in a cute frame on the nightstand or dresser. This will be a time saver for
you as well, as you won’t have to keep repeating a lengthy password! Speaking of electronics, if possible, provide a universal charger for cell phones. You never know which guests will have thought of everything and which ones will forget something as essential as a phone charger. Try to have it plugged in and ready to go before your guests arrive, especially if the nearest plug is somewhere inconvenient, like the wall behind the bed. Often your guests will arrive with a dead phone battery from a day of travel, and this will show how thoughtful and considerate you are!
Tip Number Three: Forget Me Nots
Have a stash of toiletries readily available in case any were forgotten. Store them in a cute basket or bin and set it out somewhere visible for guests to feel encouraged to use if needed. Include mini versions of things like toothpaste, shampoo, conditioner, body wash, mouthwash, face and body lotion, eye drops, dental floss, hairbrush and comb, cotton balls, and q-tips.
Depending on your geography, you might add sunscreen and bug spray as well. Extra toothbrushes are vital, and there are so many cute options these days for “guest sets” of this type of product. Make sure you check once your guests have left so you can refresh anything that is needed.
Tip Number Four: Back to the Basics
Keep bedding clean and fresh. Make sure sheets are crisp and unstained. Matching white sheets and bedding are
best, the easiest to maintain and replace, and feel most like a hotel. Provide multiple pillows (some people like to sleep with two or more pillows) that are comfy and plump. In addition to clean bedding, set out a set of fresh towels, at least two for each guest. Fold them neatly and place them where your guests will see them and know they are for their use. Too many times people assume hanging towels will be used by guests, only to have them be mistaken for decorative use only. Also supply additional clean hand towels and washcloths. After a long day of travel, nothing is as welcoming and inviting as the sight of soft, fluffy towels waiting for use after a refreshing shower. Keep extra blankets on hand, as you never know which people sleep hot or cold. Have an extra throw blanket (or if you can swing it, a luxurious bathrobe) for wrapping up in the mornings as your guests make their way to the kitchen for coffee and breakfast. It’s important for guests to have easy access to these individual comforts, as they might be missing them from their own home!
Tip Number Five: Good Clean Fun
This might seem obvious, but you never know! NOTHING
is worse than arriving to your destination to find the space provided for you is dirty or cluttered. I once arrived and found the bathroom where I was staying had not been cleaned beforehand. Needless to say, I never accepted an invitation to stay there again. You might think this is common sense to keep your guest bedroom and bathroom clean, but you’d be surprised how many times hosts will do a quick pick up and miss unpleasant things that a more thorough cleaning would have revealed.
There are countless things that you, as the host, can do to make sure your friends and family enjoy their stay with you. These five tips are just some basics that ensure comfort and contentment for everyone, yourself included. As host or hostess, there will be enough things to worry about, so preparing the guest space and anticipating needs ahead of time will make sure everything runs more smoothly. BUT Beware! This could backfire. Make sure you have a hard deadline of when guests’ visits end or you could end up having permanent house guests who will never want to leave your fabulous home and your considerate hospitality!

This incredible sofa is just what every living room needs! It is one of the best I have ever sat in. The lines are very well crafted to cater to any style.

This new collection from a fellow Texas designer was also a sight to see and a market highlight for #teamIBB! The collection was expertly crafted and was executed so well. The dining table in particular is such a beautiful art deco inspired piece that looks amazing from every angle.
Always a favorite, this fabric line is known for having beautiful options with amazing colors and designs. They also have a furniture line. The line is absolutely stunning and is a very well cleaned up look on traditional furniture.
Another item that stood out as the chicest recliner I have ever seen was the bespoke in motion collection! They offer a wide variety of customization options, and the best part is that it definitely doesn’t look like a recliner!
This cocktail table is one of my favorite tables because you can mix it with so many different styles. It can fit in so many spaces in your home… a truly timeless piece.
This nightstand design is a new introduction but a spectacular instant classic in my mind! It’s a nod to the pagoda shape and creates a beautiful transitional look in any bedroom.
This fresh take on a midcentury modern look was a big win for me! The lines are soft and crisp, the perfect blend of feminine and masculine that can elevate any space. This stunning bed is my favorite from the collection, especially in the pink mohair.

ACCESORY SWAP FOR MAJOR IMPACT Simple
BY MEGHAN SEBREN, IBB VISUAL MERCHANDISERmeghan@ibbdesign.com | @meghansebren on Instagram
It happens to all of us; we get bored of looking at the same accessories day after day. The problem isn’t the actual accessories necessarily. We all have irreplaceable keepsakes with sentimental value and timeless pieces that we will always love. It’s just not realistic to replace them every time our taste changes. (However, if that’s what you prefer, IBB can help you with that!) Here are a few great ways to get an updated, fresh look with your current stash:
• GROUP THINGS BY COLOR
This helps give individual pieces you may not be crazy about a new look. If you have pieces that aren’t your favorite but can’t get rid of, mix them in with like colors to give them new life.
• GROUP THINGS TOGETHER
By grouping all your antique vases together, for example, they stand out more and can give a cleaner, less cluttered look.
•
UTILIZE SMALL ART
Let small pieces make a big impact. You can group small art together to create a gallery wall or layer small pieces on shelves.
•
PULL OUT THE GOOD STUFF
If there is a serving bowl that only gets pulled out twice a year – display it! Place it on a cocktail table or shelf where it gets seen. You get to appreciate it more and will likely get more use!
•
USE THAT TRAY!
The concept is same as the above. Trays are underutilized and have tons of functions. Nice ones can be placed on bookshelves, and functional ones can be leaned against the backsplash of a kitchen or placed on a bar cart stocked and ready to go.
•
CHANGE YOUR COLOR PALETTE! KIND OF….
Find a shade of yellow tucked away in your rug or pull out a color from a piece of art in on the wall and start shopping! In your home that is. Pulling out a new color in your room gives it an instant face lift!
A touch of GOLD
A touch of gold imparts a comforting, warm feeling to your home. Here are a few ways to incorporate gold into your décor.
1. To add warmth to a gray palette, layer in lamps and other accessories throughout the space. Make sure to evenly disperse them through the room to achieve a sense of balance. Items with mixed metals can also help you
BY MAXINE BURT, IBB DESIGNER maxine@ibbdesign.com | @designer_maxine on Instagramblend the cool and warm tones together.
2. Decorative lighting is like jewelry & can help give your space a new look. Change your existing chrome chandelier to a brass fixture or find a fixture that is designed with mixed metals.
3. Replace existing chrome hardware and fixtures in your
bathroom with a brass or mixed metals. Updating your cabinet or door hardware with current finishes can help make your house feel like a brand-new home!
Making any of these changes can help give your home a fresh new look. If you need assistance in transforming any room, the IBB designers are always ready to help you bring in a touch of gold!
Blending Spaces Blending Spaces
BY LAUREN MACNAK, IBB DESIGNER lauren@ibbdesign.com @laurenmacdesigner on Instagram Photography by Dan PiassickWhen deciding on how to design a space, people often think you must use a space in a traditional way. Truly though, there are no rules in how to design a room other than finding a look you love and a function that fits your needs. Sometimes that means using an oversized bedroom as an office space. To give it a polished feel, working on
some shelving for books, décor, and art can define your space and allow for playful decor. Layering in rugs blends the two spaces together to create a cohesive vibe. Don’t be afraid to add a funky piece to play with shapes. The goal for design is always to make a beautiful space that functions for your individual needs.
WHAT’S A GREATDesign Tip?
BY KAREN HOLLOWAY, IBB DESIGNER karen@ibbdesign.comFOCUS ON SCULPTURED GLASS
The fireplace or focal point of your living room will get more attention throughout the winter months, so this would be a great time to spruce it up. Beautiful colored glassware or sculpture would be a great addition, even with the holiday décor.
BY LINDSAY STEUDTNER, IBB SENIOR DESIGNER lindsay@ibbdesign.comADD PRINTED WALLPAPER
With the new year here, you may be thinking of ways you can add something new and fun to your living spaces. Try injecting a little style into your space by adding wallpaper to the back of your builtin shelves. Applying wallpaper is a great way to add print and color for those who don’t feel bold enough to use it across a whole room. It can turn a storage piece into a feature in the room.
GET COMFORTABLE
We all love the comfort of a sectional in our family gathering spaces, but sometimes it just blocks off the room. I’ve noticed a lot of sectionals with open pieces in the middle. Whether it’s a table or a cushioned ottoman, consider this option to get the best of both worlds.

GO ALL NATURAL
While naturalistic and organic elements have always existed in design, we are starting to see them a little more frequently. They can be seen with a natural stain color on kitchen cabinets or a credenza with raffia detailing. Organic accessories, such as a grass cloth box or wooden vase, can be a simple way to start incorporating these elements into your space.
TRADITIONAL STYLE FAMILY HOME
BY KAREN BROOKS, IBB DESIGNER karenb@ibbdesign.com @karenbrooks3194 on InstagramTraditional elegance is how I would describe this latest home design for my clients. Their previous home was more Old-World Style, so they opted for a traditional French home with an eclectic look. They wanted to stay in an updated neutral palette, so we used neutral colors with accents of soft and calming colors to create an inviting atmosphere to help welcome visiting family.
Furnishings by IBB Design Fine Furnishings Photography by Dan PiassickFOYER
The traditional French home showcases colors inspired directly from the contemporary art painting colors. The marble entry immediately invites you in with a beautifully patterned marble floor and imported marble staircase for a sophisticated touch. The grand entry chandelier has crystal strands and hand-carved rock crystals in both clear and frosted looks. Blue, skirted ottomans are placed by a central entry table, displaying their accessories.
FORMAL LIVING ROOM
The formal living room was designed so that the view through the windows was part of the room. We kept the colors neutral with soft color accents and centered it around a bespoke marble fireplace and a baby grand piano. Two regal prince chairs bookend the fireplace and complement the soft palette sofa and upholstered chairs. A large cocktail table sits on a timeless and classic rug. Gorgeous Lucite pedestal drink tables help define the area.
FOYER SITTING AREA
We used soft blues, lilacs, and a touch of fuchsia throughout the house. The homeowners like a French influence, so we selected ornate French chairs upholstered in a soft lilac velvet to sit directly under the stairs. A beautiful sofa and lilac velvet pillows complement the sitting area with an antique floor mirror.
FORMAL LIVING ROOM
DINING ROOM
We created a richness of detail in the dining room complete with a grand rectangular, hand-carved dining table with antiqued gold detailing. The French polished walnut top with intricately carved pedestals and scrolling legs sets a beautiful stage for their special occasions. The two-door, lightly distressed buffet with antiqued gold detailing and a hand-carved walnut top creates the perfect display for their cherub statues. The wallpaper is elegant and easily transportable should they decide to move!
STUDY
The wood-paneled study was inspired by some personal items and showcases several of my clients’ treasures, including an alligator he procured himself. Favorite books, family pictures, and several custom art pieces complement the space with opposing tufted chocolate leather sofas.
KITCHEN
The kitchen carries the neutral and traditional theme, featuring low-back swivel barstools. My client loves to cook, so we added a prep area with plenty of counter space. Crystal chandeliers help light the oversized chef’s island which is perfect for entertaining while cooking!
KITCHEN NOOK
The kitchen nook also features a frosted rock crystal chandelier and perfect round table and upholstered chairs.
PRIMARY BATH
The primary bath with hand carved, ornate molding and paneling showcases an intricate patterned wallpaper and gold accent hardware.
PRIMARY BEDROOM
The primary bedroom leaves no detail left out. From the ornate molding and trim to the inset upholstered poster bed with hand carved posts, this bedroom is set up for pure luxury. Oversized three-drawer chests provide plenty of storage and are detailed with antiqued golden Greekkey patterned accents. Generous-sized chairs rest at the foot of the bed. The sitting area features dual sofas and a bespoke fireplace for those cool nights.
SECONDARY BEDROOM & BATH
The secondary bedroom provides a calming sanctuary complete with a sitting area and oversized nightstands.
The luxurious bath provides paneled storage and silver accent details.
GUEST SUITE & SITTING AREA
The guest suite and sitting area were designed in soft and peaceful colors, providing the ideal accommodations for visitors.
TWIN BEDROOM & BATH
Dual blue floral twin beds and desk set the room for a fun visit from their grandkids!
We are thrilled to present a project that is the unanimous favorite of 2022. In developing the Star Trail model, the IBB Model Design Team launched itself into a new season of COLOR! The details and beauty of this home are unrivaled, and we cannot wait to share it with you!
Dining ROOM
The incredibly unique formal dining room offers a breathtaking wowfactor just beyond the grand entry. The light and fresh color palette for the entire project was inspired by the fabrics in this room.
Its oversized doorways provide ample space, and the modern sliding doors allow it either to be a breezeway into the family room or completely private. Each upholstery piece in the room is customized, mixing patterns, trims, and cording to create a timeless and luxurious look. Even the wall pattern was inspired by one of the fabrics! A high coffered ceiling and gold chandelier finish the room in grandeur.
Family ROOM
The bright blues and greens of the house are grounded and given depth by rich wood floors and ceiling beams. We love how unexpected the bright green velvet sofas are. Mixing these bold pops with the classic marble fireplace brings a modern look to traditional finishes.
Kitchen
Dare we say it? Yes! Darker woods are making a huge comeback! We matched our floors to this gorgeous stain on the island and vent hood. The harlequin Carrara Marble backsplash is elegant and timeless. We added more interest in the kitchen by mixing knobs and pulls in our cabinet hardware.
The nook is perfectly located adjacent to the extended island and built-in planning desk. Combining a banquette and chairs at the sunny kitchen table, we created a comfy place for a family to dine, work, and play every day.
Bedroom PRIMARY
Can’t decide which blue is your favorite? Use them all!
This room combines a mix of bright aqua, deep royal, and rich navy with pops of green. The bright colors are layered on top of furniture in crisp white and gold, inviting you to begin each day with a smile, surrounded by cheerful colors and rich furnishings.
Bath PRIMARY
This spacious suite is bedecked in gleaming gold and white marble, with the star being the honeycomb Thassos marble with brass trim. The bright sky blue of the bedroom is carried into the bathroom and closet areas for a polite pop of color.
The Study and the Entertainment Rooms in this model are master classes in how to use the same color palette to achieve completely different looks. Both are bright and bold.
With its crisp, white-paneled ceiling, gold chandelier, and traditionally patterned rug, however, the study is elegant and sophisticated.
In turn, the Entertainment Room is fresh and playful with its bold blue paneling, oversized sectional, and modern pop-art.
Bedrooms SECONDARY
These spacious bedrooms are a designer’s dream! High ceilings and room for all the furnishings are additional perks of this amazing floorplan. The guest bedroom is on the first level. The second floor boasts two bedrooms with en-suite baths as well as a second primary suite.
& Gameroom Loft
We had a blast creating this PLAY-FUL game room. We used casual rugs in a fun stripe pattern to create a comfortable base in this space. With its built-in wet bar, it is yet another fabulous place to enjoy in this home.
FAVORITE FEATURE: Our design team added sliding doors to the overlook into the family room to keep the kids’ playful noises upstairs. Details like this add a whole new level of livability to a home.
OUTDOOR LIVING
Patio
Cozy up to watch your favorite football team by the outdoor fireplace. Enjoy dinner al-fresco! And top it off with s’mores around the firepit. The Star Trail 817 plan literally covers every aspect of family living and enjoyment.

PREP TIME: 10 MIN. | COOK TIME: 20 MIN. | YIELD: 2 CUPS
