José Antonio Gandía-Blasco IBIZA, ESSENCES OF MEDITERRANEAN IDENTITY IBIZA, ESENCIAS DE LA IDENTIDAD MEDITERRÁNEA José Antonio Gandía-Blasco Canales was born in Ontinyent, Valencia. After studying law at Valencia University, he embarked on his working life in the family textiles firm that he has headed since 1999. In 1996, building work was underway on his summer house in Ibiza; his quest for outdoor furniture that would do justice to its architectural style led José Antonio to make his first forays into the world of furniture design: “In 1994 I travelled to Ibiza with the express purpose of finding a place to build my house. I eventually came across Na Xemena and I thought this is it; I don’t need to see any more. I had the house built and then added the terrace furniture. I never imagined that those pieces of furniture would be so important that they would trigger the reinvention of the Gandía-Blasco firm. That passion for Ibiza resulted in a furniture collection that was christened “Na Xemena”, that nowadays is know all over the world. The spirit and magic of the island is reflected in its lines and in its distinctive white colour, expressing its identity and my own”.
José Antonio Gandía-Blasco Canales nace en Ontinyent, Valencia. Tras cursar estudios de Derecho en la Univ. de Valencia, entra a trabajar en la empresa familiar, dedicada a la fabricación de productos textiles, de la cual es propietario desde 1999, siendo hoy un referente internacional en su ámbito. La construcción de su residencia estival en Ibiza en 1996 y la necesidad de amueblar la casa con un mobiliario de exterior coherente con el concepto arquitectónico, provoca la primera aproximación de José Antonio al diseño de muebles: En 1994 viajé con la intención de encontrar un sitio donde construir mi casa. Finalmente descubrí Na Xemena y pensé, ya está, no necesito ver más. Edifiqué la casa y luego los muebles para las terrazas. Nunca pensé que esos muebles serían tan importantes como para suponer la reinvención de la empresa familiar Gandía-Blasco. Esa pasión por Ibiza daba sus frutos en forma de una colección de muebles que se bautizó como “Na Xemena” y que hoy en día es conocida en todo el mundo. El espíritu y la magia de la isla se reflejan en sus líneas y en su blanco característico expresando su identidad y la mía propia.

Durante todo este tiempo, Fomento ha participado activamente en los sucesivos cambios que nuestra isla ha ido experimentando a través del Turismo. En la actualidad nuestra institución la forman desde hoteleros a representantes de los distintos sectores sociales, así como particulares, con cuyas aportaciones se financian los costes operativos de la asociación. Trabajamos para que el Fomento del Turismo de Ibiza sea un foro de debate abierto y colaboración empresarial, estimulando la asociación de profesionales, trabajadores, empresas y entidades de todos los sectores económicos y sociales de nuestra isla, para trabajar todos juntos por Ibiza como destino turístico de calidad.
