ts n e v E t s a P Axiata Roundtable By Ann Gie
On the 16th of February, ICMS Malaysia (MY) Chapter together with the Axiata Foundation organised the Axiata Foundation Roundtable: “Decoding Data with Axiata”. In the sharing sessions, the participants were presented with the growing market of e-wallet in Malaysia along with an introduction of the Boost wallet and how it could influence our daily lifestyle. As well as that, Pedro Uria Recio (Head of Axiata Analytics Centre) enlightened the participants with the importance of data analytics in enhancing the development of the nation. Following this, a few interactive activities were conducted such as a Kahoot game, case study challenge, and a presentation. These exposed the participants to how public relations and marketing operates in today’s world as well as possible solutions to related problems that could arise. Wrapping up the event, constructive feedback was provided to all teams followed by announcing the winner. Undeniably, the event has provided a deeper understanding of the world of Data Analytics and how Axiata influences the nation with its knowledge in this industry. “It was a fun and fantastic event! I was able to make friends with people from different backgrounds while solving problems together. Indeed, I would definitely recommend my friends to join events organised by ICMS in the future!”- Edward Ng, University of Reading Malaysia MARCH 2019 ISSUE 26 Page 2

“AM I JUST WEAK? AM I JUST NOT GOOD ENOUGH?”
Chris This is ICMS’s 9th Council EOP Associate Aris Azlan’s iconic line when he performed as Chris for the University College London Malaysian Night 2019. In fact, this is a question he often asks himself as a first-year student going into university. Having close to 30 contact hours per week, 10 hours of cast practices and extracurricular works have definitely had an impact on this physics student. Contrary to the character he played, Aris remained optimistic and resilient against the stress he faced, adapting to all the seemingly never-ending challenges. MARCH 2019 ISSUE 26 Page 8
res u t a e F e t Associa “The key is to know your priorities and be very disciplined,” Aris said with a bright and confident look. “It was really challenging at the beginning, but after I learnt what’s actually important and made some sacrifices, it has become much more manageable.” He told me that planning and following your weekly or even monthly schedule is absolutely important in order to meet deadlines.
After the successful conclusion of the performance, Aris feels much more confident in his own capability to handle stress and adapt to challenges to come. “I am now sure that I am strong and most definitely good enough,” as he smiles optimistically, “I am ready for anything to come now, and I hope the best for all my peers in ICMS.”

An adventure begins.. BY Jesper Huang Stepping into the life of an undergraduate, I did not want to confine myself to the experience of university within its borders. Instead, I was outward looking to search for an opportunity that allowed me to gain an international experience. Almost by chance, I stumbled upon ICMS. Immediately, I was drawn in by its deep-rooted culture in Building Networks, Empowering Leaders and Realizing Ideas. But what really sealed the deal for me? The people. I was immediately inspired by the intense passion and drive right from the get-go at The Teh Tarik Session which then prompted me to apply to ICMS as a Junior Associate. Although there is a steep learning curve, there is a network of individuals who support the growth of each other.

As I transition from a Junior Associate to the Council Policy and Strategy Executive Director, I aim to initiate actionable strategies across the Chapters so that we operate to offer the best experience for our fellow Associates to learn, grow and contribute to the ICMS community and beyond. This also presents an incredible opportunity to help sharpen and hone my creative and problem-solving capabilities throughout my Council-term in ICMS.
