Thriving Together There’s no story as compelling as a woman who lifts her self up, out of a poverty mindset, as a single mother to create an empire that is soon to be the first self-development company to go public. Seriously, Lisa Nichols is not just preaching... she’s living and holding a space for us all to join her.

I’m often asked for my publication schedule so people can start getting their articles together but here’s the deal... I don’t pick the theme until I know who is going to be on our cover. And THEN I choose the theme that matches their brilliance - and THRIVE? Lisa is all about Thriving... that point well beyond surviving.

I’ve met her a couple of times, had seen her in live action and she’s a force to be reckoned with -seriously, her energy output is huge! She’s determined and audacious. And if I’m honest, rather intimidating. Do I have what she has? That singleminded pursuit of my dreams? The gonads to do whatever it takes because the vision is so compelling I don’t even have a choice?

And then I think of my family and the yummy freedom that my business allows me. Of the experiences I am able to have with them. I think of the lives of my clients that I transform, allowing them to in turn transform other people’s lives. I am creating change in the world and yes, the vision compels me. I may not be on the world stage like the amazing Lisa Nichols but I know in my heart that we all THRIVE in our own ways, by the beating of our own hearts, doing what it takes to spread our love in the world...

STEP INTO THE SECRET - THRIVING TO BE THE BEST YOU As you know, the three steps to the Law of Attraction, and creating a New Thriving YOU!

“Your job is to get ready, to be whole and complete in you so that when the universe responds, you get absolutely everything you deserve.”

1. Ask the universe for what you want.

2. Believe that it is already yours.

3. Be ready to receive.

Ask and believe, and you shall receive. Seems almost magical, doesn’t it? But, yes, that is how the universe works!

Finding Your Dot The key to get to where you’re going is to know where you’re starting from. You need to find the dot that says, “You are here,” just

like the dot on the kiosk map in the shopping mall.

Many of us are like hamsters on a treadmill, moving and moving and moving, just for the sake of movement. Yet we never really get anywhere, because we haven’t shifted our mindset.

To really understand yourself you have to get outrageously honest. It’s what I call being emotionally buck-naked.

This is a bold self-evaluation or self-assessment.

You peel away the layers and take an honest look at yourself. You celebrate yourself—even when it feels uncomfortable. You tell the truth about where you’re falling short—even when it stings.

Step 1 – Acknowledge yourself Begin by evaluating the four areas of your life: · Success – your career, financial health, community involvement · Health – your wellness, vitality, physical appearance · Relationships – to yourself and with others · Spirituality – your relationship with a higher power, the universe, or god Speak directly to yourself in the mirror and acknowledge yourself. In so doing, you lift yourself up and celebrate your very being. Here’s how I do it:

This is your opportunity to really stop for a moment and notice that every page in your autobiography up until today, this very moment, has already been written upon.

“Lisa, I’m proud of you. I’m proud that you are playing a little bigger today than you played yesterday and last week. I’m proud that you are stretching yourself.

The moment you are ready to own your past, the good and bad, the happy and sad, the highs and lows—and everything in between—is the moment you move into the driver’s seat of your life.

Step 2 – Forgive yourself

How do you gain control of the steering wheel?

The Four-Step Boot Camp One of the most effective ways to find your “dot” is to have an honest conversation with yourself—face to face. Do this four-step exercise in front a mirror every morning for just seven minutes and you’ll be amazed by what you learn about yourself and how quickly you gain control of where you’re going.

Next, release your past.

We hold ourselves hostage to so many old thoughts and old regrets, so many should-haves, could-haves, and if onlys.

People want the Law of Attraction to work in spite of all that negative chatter going on in their heads. But the Law of Attraction is not magic. We all have to go through the process and do the work.

I’ve lived in those dark places. Do I slip up? You bet! I often feel myself lacing up the old boxing gloves and beating myself up. But as soon as I feel the first blow, I immediately take the gloves off, embrace myself, and apologize. In the mirror 5

I tell myself, “I love you. I forgive you.” Then I move on.

And, no, it isn’t easy, especially when you’re dealing with deep-seated hurts and abuses from the past.

I had let the abuses of my past define me. I had to work through my forgiveness every day until one day it didn’t come up anymore. You’ll know when you’ve worked through something, because it will no longer be an issue when you look in the mirror.

Step 3 – Determine where you need improvement Next, take an honest assessment of the improvements you need to make in yourself to attract what you want. This can be sobering as well.

“I need improvement in prioritizing my schedule to invest more in my physical health by working out. I need improvement in drawing better boundary lines inside my family. I need improvement in spending more quality time with my mother and grandmother…”

Be honest with yourself, because you’re laying important groundwork here.

Step 4 – Make a commitment In this step you’re really designing the next chapter of your life. You’re telling the universe, this is what I’m committed to doing.

For example, “I’m committed to riding my bike at least three days a week, I’m committed to keeping my boundaries. I’m committed to finishing my book by June…”

For me, every morning goes something like this:

This is your bridge to the Law of Attraction. You begin to speak the possibility inside your commitment. You’re finding the dot that says, “You are here.”

Now, you ask the universe to make your commitment happen. But don’t think your work is over.

Design Your Destiny Remember, the Law of Attraction is obedient to your thoughts. It is always working in your favor.

Your job is to get ready, to be whole and complete in you so that when the universe responds ,you get absolutely everything you desire.

People have asked me, “Can you believe you’re on the Oprah show?”

With all humility I say, Why not? Why not me?!

Why not that little girl from south-central L.A, who grew up in the midst of gangs, who didn’t look like any beauty queen, who couldn’t find any beauty in herself. Why not that little girl who was considered academically challenged? Why not that young woman who was so desperate for love that she picked wrong and almost lost her life? Why not the single mother who craves for the best possible outcome for her son, an African American male child with no father around?

The question is not “Why you?” The question is “Why not you?!”

The universe knows it, and it’s up to you to know it.

SURVIVING & THRIVING AFTER THE COLLEGE SEND-OFF

Just as you are nervous about letting go and watching them head towards college life, they are nervous about leaving you. They want independence with guidance. Young adults are hungry for approval and direction, and they are looking to you for it. So, how as parents can we go forward giving them their independence and taking ours back?

When I think about sending off a child to college, all I can think about is hitting the restart button.

Think back to when your precious baby was born; remember that crazy feeling of “oh my gosh, they are letting us leave with her? Are we are qualified for this?” Well, you are right back at that same kind of moment. Except I can wholeheartedly tell you… YOU ARE QUALIFIED, and she is going to leave you.

This amazing individual that you taught to go potty, kissed their first booboo, and gave the keys to your car is leaving. They are leaving to start their journey, and a life of independence. Except here’s the thing: they still need you and your help (not to mention, most likely a lot of financial support).

Young adults “leaving the nest” today are in an unpredictable place. They have no idea where the economy is going, and most have little idea of what they will do after college. But then honestly, did we?

Recently, one of my clients asked me how to stand up for her independence when she was still financially dependent on her folks. I coached her on the values she has and how honoring those will help her become able to make decisions on her own, resulting in financial responsibility along the way. This is the perfect teaching opportunity for parents; using our “empty nesting” as an example of taking risks and being true to ourselves, we can teach our children just as we did when they were little.

Here are 5 things you can do for yourself as your child leaves for college.

1. GO out there and do something y’all have always wanted to. Whatever form of fear that has been holding you back…let it go. This is a great way to show your child how to take a risk by trying something new. Stepping outside of your comfort zone can teach you about yourself.

2. Look at your schedule. I bet it is a lot less full with your child gone. You are now free to fill it up with things about you; isn’t that amazing? You are getting a chance to just BE again, to figure out 8

what you want to do with your free time. Is there a class you are interested in or maybe a hobby you’ve wanted to try?

3. Embrace your emotions; it is okay to be sad or lonely without your child. Show them that you are okay even on the sad days by engaging in activities, hanging out with friends, or reconnecting for a few minutes with a text.

4. Leave the line of communications open, but don’t ask too many questions. They will be more comfortable sharing if they don’t feel like it’s an inquisition. (Yes, even though you may be dying to know who they are dating.)

5. Spend time “dating” again. Remember that person you’ve been sharing your life with, the one you picked all those years ago. Make a list of things you can do together, and start crossing them off.

By doing these 5 simple things, you will actually show your child how to deal with their new life--finding new friends, deciding what classes they like, dealing with the emotional rollercoaster of freshman year, and dating. These are all similar to the actions you are taking. Be open about what it’s like to “start over,” and together you will both survive and thrive!

ARE YOU BEING DEPRIVED OF THE URGE TO THRIVE? 2. Gracefully Bow Out – for those days that the tears are flowing or you are in physical discomfort and faking it won’t do, gracefully reschedule, we all need a “mental health” day from time to time.

You just ended your second marriage, your two year old doesn’t sleep through the night and you are doing your best to keep up with your three children and your busy coaching practice. Your work calendar is filled with appointments of back-to-back clients, all of which want you to help them THRIVE! They want to thrive in business, they want to thrive in relationship and they want to thrive in life. However, you don’t feel worthy of helping them because you don’t feel like YOU are thriving.

Can you relate? Just as doctors sometimes fall ill, sometimes we as Coaches are in “thrivedeprive”. So, what do we do when we feel that we are in the grip of overextension and we are not shining our brightest light? Here are a few approaches that have helped this Coach weather a “thrive” drought.

1. “Fake it until you make it” - This works best for minor upsets and bad days. Putting yourself in full service to your client can help you through. I’ve heard it said many times, “heal others and you heal yourself”. Wise words and it works!

3. Own it and use it as a Coaching tool – We are human and our clients select us because of the credibility our human experiences bring to our work. If your energy field is less than full of happy energy, own it right up front. Tell the client that you are working through some material that once over come, is going to give you a different skill to add to your Coaching toolkit and a new and greater understanding of your clients who you will undoubtedly attract to help in the same manner.

If I were to ask you to define these things for me odds are you’d go into a diatribe about the ‘How’. You’d rattle off a bunch of formulas you’ve learned over the years. How selling from the stage is the way to go. How telesummits are brilliant and how your Facebook page should be making you money. Membership sites, radio shows, email newsletters, writing a book, programs that sell while you sleep.

And it’s precisely all of those definitions that lead people to hate the business side of their business.

Because they’re nothing but Left-Brained Crap.

Yes - they are all totally valid strategies and it’s great to have options but it’s not really the strategies that create a viable, profitable business.

And all alone they feel - well - old school. Like the days of yore when men in suits knocked on your door to sell you magical snake oil (how creepy would that be today?). There is this perception that all it takes to build your business is to get ‘out there’.

What does that mean - get ‘out’ there?

Sounds like something you do outside of yourself.

In a way that’s what marketing indicates - that you’ll have to step outside of yourself and talk about things in an oh-so professional way, that your certificates and qualifications are uber important... that you need to shout from a mountain top louder and more consistently than everyone else, or that you’re in competition with everyone.

What ends up happening is you separate from our purpose to ‘get out’ there. You end up having two distinct sides of yourself - the yummy, coachy side that is BRILLIANT at creating transformation in others, who is in tune with her heart and of being of service to others.

The “I meditate and work on self-development” side. Your woo-woo.

And then you have the business side of you. The one who has to plan the sales message in your emails. The one who is taking classes on going from zero income to six figures in 30 days if you implement this particular formula. The side of you that thinks if you just push a little harder, your success will happen.

Most of us live in one side or the other. Not merging them together. Not trusting our intuition when it comes to making more money. Not allowing our-

selves to close the sales conversation because it feels so yummy to be in service.

We flop back and forth and what ends up happening is we feel a lot like fish out of water. We never really hit our stride. And success isn’t happening quite as fast as those classes promised they would.

You get overwhelmed and frustrated.

You know you’re meant for more...

Abundance. Prosperity. Thriving.

These are all spiritual achievements.

Your success is a direct reflection of how much trust you put into your intuition. On how much abundance you set yourself up to receive. Oh how willing you are to allow the two distinct sides of your business merge together.

True success is a spiritual journey.

Whatever that looks like to you, I’m willing to bet it isn’t found in any formulas. It’s found inside of you - in your heart.

I have one client who had spent tens of thousands of dollars on training and coaching. She has a flipping formula for everything but she was frustrated because none of them were working.

We started exploring some of those formulas and what about each felt right or wrong.

By the end of the first session we literally threw all of the lessons out and she started just talking to people, having coffee dates, doing things that made her heart soar (about topics that moved her, not the ones she was ‘supposed’ to talk about). Success story? You bet... she found the sweet spot where her heart and brain were totally 12

in alignment and things just started to come easliy.

Spiritual marketing is about fusing together both sides of your brain. You totally become a badass marketer when you set your heart free.

In fact, doing less and opening up more helps you enroll more clients. Trust and Faith are the primary ingredient in your marketing plans.

When you find that sweet spot where you hold the yummy vision and take inspired actions, that’s what makes you MONEY! Approach your business building in a spiritual way rather than the old-school suit and tie (or nylons... gosh I hate nylons) way and doors open up.

Creating AND Receiving are a part of business creation... It’s the perfect flow and dance that ultimately means that at all times your heart and spirit are engaged and open.

Marketing then becomes a part of your development as a person. It reflects your growth and your total belief in you and your messages.

I am currently house and dog and cat sitting in the Canary Islands. One of my responsibilities is to water the Orchids and keep them alive. As the lady of the house told me when giving me instructions, everyone else she knows has killed their orchids, but hers are thriving. No pressure then? Care of any plant (or any person) takes knowing what makes that plant (or person) thrive.

What makes you thrive? Do you know your own care instructions for thriving in your life? Do you know how to get the best from yourself? (here's a hint: it's not self-criticism, driving yourself into the ground and neglecting yourself) We are all very different, so there is no point adopting someone else's care plan. You have to create your own care instructions - the circumstances that allow you to thrive. Then you have to follow those care instructions. There's no use knowing that orchids don't like direct sunlight and leaving them in a south-facing window all day long.

Answer these questions to help you create your personal unique THRIVE care plan:

1. How much sleep do you need to thrive? If you're tired, you can't thrive.

2. What does your body need from you in order for it to thrive? If your body is unhealthy and unhappy, you can't thrive.

3. What does your mind need from you in order for it to thrive? If your brain is fried, you can't thrive.

4. What does your heart need from you in order for it to thrive? If your heart hurts, you can't thrive.

5. What does your soul need from you in order for it to thrive? If your soul is wilting within you, you can't thrive.

6. What brings you joy? Without joy, you can't thrive.

7. What do you love? If you fill your life with what you love, you cannot help but thrive.

8. What Big Dreams are hiding in your heart? Living fully and passionately helps you thrive.

Imagine being at the beach, softly touched by the refreshing breeze, breathing fresh air, touching the water with the tip of your toes and feeling an absolute freedom in all areas of your life.

Freedom - the most precious and sacred gift we have and for some reason we sabotage it by creating concepts that are not worthy of our sublime existence.

How many times have you heard from elders, mentors, coaches and people in general that to reach your goals and succeed in life you have to “push harder” and “work harder”?

I want you to stop for a moment and really drop this banana in the trash can because it’s a sabotaging lie – this is BS! You don’t have to push harder or work harder in anything you do in your life to reach your goals and success – remember success is the reflec-

• Find your life purpose – this is WHO you are meant to be in this world - it takes time, coaching and inner work until you really get it and see it.

• Get clear with your vision – this is the WHY of your life purpose and WHAT you SEE yourself doing.

• Discover your life’s mission – once you found WHO you are meant to be and WHY, you will know HOW to do it.

• LOVE and ENJOY everything you do – you will experience everything comes easy and new opportunities knocking at your door.

Now, If you are working hard in everything you do (even writing an article for your blog), pushing hard to get somewhere and not loving or being excited about it - it’s a clear sign that whatever you are doing, it isn’t for you to do.

If it doesn’t come easy, it’s because what you are doing is not in alignment with your life purpose, vision and mission. So, why waste your sacred energy fighting against the waves?

Instead take a break, drop the banana, live your life purpose, love your vision and enjoy your mission – then everything will fall into place.

GET YOUR LEGAL DUCKS IN A ROW IN THREE KEY STEPS

Here are three key steps to get your legal ducks in a row: 1. Create a Disclaimer. Be clear about what you do as a coach so there is no confusion. Short is not sweet here – go for length.

If you are a type-A coach, you want all of your ducks in a row, right? Perhaps you have wanted to put some legal protections in place for your business, but it is still “on the list”. You just haven’t gotten around to it.

When you and your business are protected, safe and secure, you can thrive. But, did you know that legal protections also allow you to make more money and be a leader in your business?

Here’s why: When you are backed by a business entity, you are no longer a kitchen-table hobby.

When you have contracts, disclaimers, and privacy policies in place, you are a coach with strong boundaries so clients happily pay you and come back for more. When you uplevel your business and increase your frequency, you stand confident and tall, and attract more of your ideal clients.

In other words, you show up in the Universe like you mean business – and you get more business.

2. Use a Client Agreement. You can still be a warm and loving coach, and have a container to hold your client relationship. Clients love direction.

3. Add a Terms of Use & Privacy Policy.

Protect your intellectual property. Those blog posts and websites take a lot of time to write, and it is okay to want to claim them as your own.

Don’t wait to shorten your legal “to-do” list. It is time to be safe, secure, and legally protected so you can relax - and then watch yourself thrive!

I decided to study the Law of Attraction deeper. I began reading the books Byrnes’ work was based on. I began “testing” those Law of Attraction teachings in my life, creating experiments to see what I could manifest from what I was learning.

The first of these experiments was to attract more friends–specifically seven new friends–into my life that shared interests similar to mine, including the Law of Attraction.

Each month we’ll happily highlight one of our fabulous coaches here... We pick randomly and for no other reason than we know personally that these Coaches are doing amazing work in the world and deserve every inch of space we can spare!

Creating a system for manifesting my dream life and teaching it to hundreds, no – thousands of people throughout the world is something I didn’t think was possible.

And yet it’s happening in my world right now.

Like many people, I got really excited when I first saw Rhonda Byrne’s film The Secret in 2006. Understanding that “like attracts like” and “thoughts become things” changed my life. But, I also knew that if simply wishing made it so, a lot more of us would have a lot more.

I envisioned and created a group, the Friendship and Prosperity Women’s Club (FPWC), seeking to bring like-minded women together to establish close platonic friendships, as well as to study AND apply the principals of the Law of Attraction to increase success and prosperity in our lives.

I promoted the group on Craigslist and within a week had nine applications. The group had its first meeting in January 2008 with exactly seven new friends, in attendance! It was my first This Stuff’s Working! moment. Now, FPWC just celebrated our Fifth Anniversary with 13 active members.

After a year of facilitating the group, which included reading great books like The Master Key System, Secrets of A Millionaire Mind, and Think and Grow Rich, I realized that everything I’d been learning and using with great success actually was the basis of a system. Not a daydream, 26

but a proven plan to take wishes and turn them into reality. That’s how my D.R.E.A.M. Plan took shape–a complete, five-step process for manifesting!

I started writing about the D.R.E.A.M. plan, and piloted the model to my FPWC group. More This Stuff’s Working! moments were created!

I knew I was on the right path when an organization offered me a speaking opportunity in San Francisco, CA. I presented my What’s Your D.R.E.A.M. workshop to two rooms packed with young students and professionals. Sharing my story and my D.R.E.A.M. Plan on stage lit a fire under me.

Soon after that presentation, the pastor of my church invited me to share give my D.R.E.A.M. with our congregation and I began giving personal development talks at the church. After one of my talks, a fellow congregant approached me and asked me about becoming her life coach.

Before I even really knew what a life coach was, I had my first coaching client. Within 6 months, she had manifested her D.R.E.A.M. and a light bulb went off for me.

My own D.R.E.A.M. plans had grown bigger and bigger over time, yet each one was manifesting with relative ease as I worked the plan. My life was beginning to reflect what I had been wanting for myself since childhood.

I lived where I wanted to live–in sunny San Diego, CA. I loved who I wanted to love, being happily married to my wife. I went where I wanted to go–taking vacations to Hawaii, Palm Springs, San Luis Obispo, Las Vegas.

I drove the car I wanted to drive–a blue convertible Mustang.

My healthiest body began to emerge, as I saw the scale dip below 300 pounds for the first time in a decade. To date, I’ve lost 112 pounds and counting!

Everything around me was upgrading.

Then, in 2012, I decided that it was time to make the leap and turn my passion into my full-time work.

I left a phenomenal job to start my company, This Stuff’s Working! Coaching. I became a certified coach. I turned my D.R.E.A.M. Plan into my first published e-book: A D.R.E.A.M. Comes True: 5 Steps to Planning and Creating Your Personal Success Story NOW!, which was a #1 Bestseller on Amazon in February 2013!

Why I’m In Business?

Building this business is absolutely a D.R.E.A.M. come true. I was born to write and I love being on stage speaking. But more than anything else, I love to use BOTH to help change people’s lives by changing the way they see themselves, helping them understand how they are creating their lives, and teaching them to do so intentionally, with vision and purpose.

I’ve learned something that I don’t think enough people understand for themselves: You can create the life of your dreams. You have all you need, right now, to become the person you want to be, do the things you want to do, and have the things you want to have.

As a coach, I help my clients find the clarity, commitment, and courage to live the life they want.
