PUBLISHER’S POV HAUS CALL This month we celebrate the launch of ICONIC HAUS 2020 with 19 of the top, marquis designers sharing their inspired work under one roof…all to benefit Phoenix Children’s Hospital through an 18-day tour of the home (tickets at iconiclife.com), designed by award-winning architect C.P. Drewett and built by the team at Bedbrock Developers. This will be my seventh designer showhouse, and this year’s team is the most collaborative ever. The pure pride and joy of ICONIC HAUS inspired an app and…wait for it…my return to print publishing. A little more than two decades ago, I was on my first press check for a magazine I created from my kitchen table that eventually overtook the market leader at that time. Ten years later, I sold that title (my baby) to embrace life’s next great adventure, raising my real baby…a fine young man today of whom I am so proud.
Renee M. Dee Publisher @reneeldee @youriconiclife
The love of publishing never left me—having a platform to create a bigger impact, to express my love of living a beautiful life, to create stunning imagery, to be an authority on design, luxury and style, and to work with so many incredible clients, essentially playing a part in their hopes and dreams, too. And then the epiphany that I would return to publishing hit me with stunning clarity. My team and I launched ICONIC LIFE digital luxury lifestyle magazine 90 days later on March 19, 2018. Today, exactly two years later, is the launch of the print edition of ICONIC LIFE. I have felt so alive and purposeful in creating this new print title that there hasn’t been a moment of work, rather a labor of love. Thank you to everyone who has encouraged me and stepped up instantly to support me. This new chapter assures me I am back where I belong; where I am super inspired and filled with remarkable energy to create an impact on a national scale with a tribe of readers, social media followers and digital subscribers who want to embrace a movement to LIVE BEAUTIFULLY.

TASTING NOTES
Here’s The Juice: Our Favorite Reds of the Moment by Mark Tarbell
Napa Valley is beloved and is producing the dominant wine style in America’s red wine, which has changed in nuanced ways over the past three decades. There are still many different approaches to crafting of style that ends up in the bottle. The center of everyone’s target is a dark, thick, deep red fruit-forward style with underlying soft tannin and structure. The Paso Robles wine region in Southern California has the ability to produce wines of many different styles and with an exciting variety of grapes. It also is an area that can achieve the same lushness and depth of the great Napa reds. It’s long been the one to watch in the California wine world. Napa, watch out!

CULINARY CREATIONS
The Sweet Life This Supermodel Turned Baker Might Be The Most Ironic Second Act Ever by Dena Roché The Dutch-born fashion model, Kristel van Valkenhoef, and owner of New York City-based Botanic Bakery laughs that the stereotype that models never eat is a misconception that drives her nuts. It’s hard to imagine anyone able to resist the nature and art-inspired confections van Valkenhoef is turning out in the East Village. Her sweet treats, especially her realistic geode candies, are definite Instagram #foodporn. “Growing up in my garden, we had lots of rocks, and I really loved cracking them open,” van Valkenhoef says. “Each of them has a long story, and that’s the beauty of it. My geode candies are inspired by that natural beauty.” “Over the years, I have worked closely with many designers from fashion houses like Céline, Dolce & Gabana, Narciso Rodriguez, 30

Theory and Helmut Lang,” she says. “And while spending time in their ateliers, I learned about the design process—how to draw inspirations, how to carefully or radically choose colors, how imperfections can make something perfect, the element of surprise, the process of trial and error, believing in yourself, always giving your best, and performing under pressure. Creativity can be drawn from all around you.”
“
Modeling has given me the luxury to get in touch with my true personal journey. Botanic Bakery has collaborated with Dom Perignon, Viktor & Rolf, Jill Stuart, Helmut Lang, Justin Alexander and Wilhelmina Models.

loral design is having a moment, and the designs of today are something of another; think petaled walkways disguised as indoor gardens and abstract sculpted vines adorning chic hotel lobbies. The expansion of floral art has a lot to do social media and has aroused a new obsession with botanic centerpieces. She designed parties and décor for the Oprah Winfrey Show and was a design consultant for the Bellagio Hotel in Vegas—she is certainly tapping her own creative talents to keep evolving the world of floral—one stem at a time.
“
For Jennifer McGarigle, her celebrity-filled career is blooming.
The designer has roots in Bodega Bay, California and her chic design studio is in the art-forward, culinary hot-spot of Culver City. She is the
owner and principal designer of Floral Art, where visitors walk straight into the imaginative space that McGarigle thrives in. Being both free in form and with an often Bohemian-driven aesthetic, she is also a force in the industry and aimed on success—an enduring attitude in the coastal metropolis. “Being based in LA has allowed me the luxury to be creative with big budgets and work a diverse clientele. We’re also lucky to have access to locally grown flowers in California,” she shares. The floral darling has had her flower art, furniture designs and modern neon vases featured in the New York Times, Oprah Magazine, Architectural Digest and a long list of others. McGarigle tells us her inspiration starts with the actual space. “My process begins with the imagination, then to sketches and renderings. After designs are complete, I’ll often test the idea, especially if it’s a new concept I’ve never tried before. And piece by piece, it comes together,” she says.

heryl Lowe, the successful designer for her namesake brand Sheryl Lowe Jewelry has enjoyed accolades for her collection of rocker-chic jewelry that represents empowerment, self-expression and inner strength. Her super wearable designs have been seen on celebrities, the likes of Goop founder Gwyneth Paltrow, Maria Shriver and Oprah. This summer, she and husband Rob Lowe together launched her newest collection, Mr. Lowe. We caught up with the designer to hear her vision for the new collection and why designing for her husband and two sons provides her constant inspiration. “My clients are buying for their husbands; however, we are finding that men are self-purchasing the collection, and an entirely new clientele has emerged,” she says. “I focused on more earthy gemstones. Same as the Sheryl Lowe Jewelry women’s collection, I am mixing metals with beads. I’m working with what I know to be a success, and my travels are a constant source of inspiration because I buy a lot of materials when I am in other countries, keeping the look very authentic,” she says. And what does she hope to achieve with her new collection? “My collections have always been about passion, self-expression, empowerment and inner strength. I want the same for my male clients. I hope that the shy and conservative man will feel comfortable and inspired wearing this collection,” she says.
love it because I am able to take a “ “ Ipiece of her with me wherever I go. – Rob Lowe “I am continually inspired by the men in my life—my husband Rob and our two amazing sons. They are a constant source of creativity since we see each other often. I think a man should wear my collection in any way that he wants to. Whatever makes him happy, confident and comfortable. My wish is that men will feel comfortable in multiple pieces. I love texture and layering. And what does Rob say? “I love it because I am able to take a piece of her with me wherever I go. I love my beaded bracelet with the diamond buddha, my chain necklace with two pendants, the Maltese cross and Ganesh, and my ring with a pave diamond triangle, which represents strength, serenity and hope,” he says. Tricked-Out Airstreams AS ICONIC AS APPLE PIE by Nancy Erdmann The Silver Bullet of travel trailers reigns supreme with customized, modern design.
A
irstream’s polished-aluminum travel trailer is about as iconic as apple pie. The airplane-inspired coach began its journey in the early 1930s when Stanford graduate Wally Byam created a trailer for camping in comfort with his wife. Not long after, he opened his first Airstream factory. Often referred to as the Silver Bullet, today it is considered the Cadillac of recreational vehicles. From newly built, custom-designed vehicles to renovated-tothe-hilt, older models, Airstreams are reaching a new high in style, innovation and sheer fun. Timeless Travel Trailers, a Colorado-based firm, recently restored a rare Western Pacific Airstream that serves as a vacation residence for its owner. Updated with Mid-century modern flair, it features an aluminum interior, wide-plank bamboo flooring, walnut veneer cabinetry and large horizontal windows for unobstructed views. “We’re seeing a high demand for an open floor plan, while creating functional storage space throughout the unit,” says Nicole Aulik, a business development consultant at Timeless Travel Trailers. “Solar and smart technology are also high on customers’ wish lists.” Tommy Bahama has also gotten into the game
with its Relax Edition, designed in warm woods and green earth tones, with tropical bedding and ocean-blue towels. State-of-the-art kitchen appliances, woven yacht-like flooring and a builtin lighted bar bring the brand to life, including beach chairs, a cooler, glasses, bottle openers, whiskey stones and candles. And not too long ago, Airstream introduced The Nest—a compact, 112-square-foot luxury trailer big enough to accommodate a queen-size bed, bathroom and kitchen light enough to be towed by a large SUV. Ultimate Airstreams offers several entertaining designs that might make you rethink your next glamping or client event. The Sophia I—a wine-tasting lounge—is a sophisticated ensemble of leather lounge seating, underlit translucent Brazilian granite countertops, a handcrafted oak barrel ceiling, dual-zone wine coolers and wine display cabinets. The Sophia II, includes dual TV monitors, making it ideal for work-related presentations, tailgating and guest lodging. The Hybrid Mobile Office is 30-foot-long office on wheels that provides the freedom to work from home anywhere—the ultimate freedom that Wally Byam imagined.

No apologies—we’re a bit particular when it comes to luxury hotels. In fact, what really sets one apart from another? Luxury travelers expect all five-star stays to offer an amazing experience, so what makes a Baccarat better than a Belmond, or a Four Seasons rank over a Fairmont? We’ve stayed at hundreds of exclusive properties worldwide, and we’ve done the time, brought back the intel and invested in the deeper dive to share our picks for truly ICONIC stays.

THE RANCH AT ROCK CREEK Montana The Ranch at Rock Creek, a Relais & Chateaux property nestled into one of the most pristine valleys in Montana, is the first guest ranch in the world to earn a Forbes Five-Star award. The Ranch takes glamping to a new level, with 29 individual accommodations from onebedroom suites to five-bedroom homes. The ranch offers a host of winter activities including survival skills while on a snowmobile to a new Après Ski & Spa package where you can combine downhill skiing and snowboarding with blissful treatments in the Granite Spa.
HOTEL EMMA Texas Good times are brewing at Hotel Emma in San Antonio. Located on the famous River Walk and housed in a 19th Century brewhouse that maintained many of its original fixtures and even equipment from the brewing days, the 146-room boutique property stands out with great loft-like design, modern and historic aesthetics, and local touches. A culinary concierge is on-hand to organize private chef dinners in your suite, or advise guests of hidden pop-up dinners around town. As a writer, the 3,700-volume library from the collection of a local historian provides the perfect alcove in which to while away a rainy afternoon.

RITZ-CARLTON DOVE MOUNTAIN Arizona With the debut of a floor-to-ceiling renovation of all its guest rooms, The Ritz-Carlton Dove Mountain near Tucson was one of just eight hotels in the world to earn a five-star rating from Forbes for both the resort and its spa. One of my favorite memories from a past stay was roasting s’mores, so I love that the 14 Fireside Mountain rooms added in the renovation come with a s’mores kit as the turndown amenity. I’d heard a rumor that employees at any Ritz-Carlton are empowered to solve a guest problem or create a special experience for guests. Imagine my surprise and delight to return to my room and have a basket of spa goodies sent to me.

BALLYFIN Ireland If you’ve ever dreamed of being a princess (or prince) Ballyfin Demesne in County Laois, Ireland is your fantasy come to life. This lavish former country mansion is set on 614 acres and features a scant 20 rooms. After eight years of restoration, the house is as over-the-top as Versailles and feels like going back in time, albeit with all the modern conveniences of 2018. The 19th-Century carved wooden bed, which has the most ornate circle canopy I’ve ever seen, is so impressive it literally sits in the center of the room.

THE DRISCO Tel Aviv
BACCARAT New York
A hotel with a storied past can make for a deeper connection to the place. Such is the case with the newly opened Drisco Hotel in the up-and-coming American Colony area of Tel Aviv. The 42-room Leading Hotel of the World pays homage to its unique past when a self-proclaimed prophet from Maine moved 40 American families to Palestine in 1866, and two disciples, John and George Drisco, tried to build the hotel. They ran out of funds and the hotel was eventually completed by a German Templar. Mark Twain and Thomas Cook were frequent guests. The hotel offers visits to independent ateliers and VIP tickets for the Bat Sheva Ballet and The Gesher Theater next door.
Baccarat crystal is the epitome of luxury. That iconic luxury is authentically captured in the Baccarat Hotel in New York City. Timeless heritage and elegance gracefully combine with modern amenities and flair to create an atmosphere akin to staying in a fine French chateau in the world’s most dynamic city. Most of the furniture and accessories were custom designed and, naturally, Baccarat crystal is woven into many features. The Grand Salon is designed with champagne-colored silk drapery with vibrant red roses arranged into an elegant ball perched on the bar. There are even Glass Attendants, employees whose entire job is caring for the crystal. My favorite use, though, is Bedside Bubbles: simply press the CHAMPAGNE button on the phone and your favorite bubbly is delivered to the room with Baccarat flutes.

When wellness is on the menu, check into one of the 49 casitas at Rancho Valencia, Southern California’s only Relais & Chateaux property. The 45-acre property near Del Mar will make you think you’ve landed in the Mediterranean with its olive trees, gardens and design. There are more than 95 complimentary fitness classes a week, and a fitness butler will meet you after each one with a pressed green juice or protein shake as a reward for completing a workout. With 18 tennis courts on property, including two new ClayTech courts, it’s no surprise to me that it is Tennis Magazine’s perennial top tennis resort in the country.
WIDDER HOTEL Zurich Zurich may be the financial capital of Europe, but for visitors who want an Old World European experience in this modern mecca, the Widder Hotel is a hidden gem. Located in Old Town, the five-star hotel was created by combining several 700-year-old former guild houses in an incredible adaptive reuse project. While the hotel includes a large collection of modern art from artists like Andy Warhol and Robert Rauschenberg, it’s the old architecture and history that make the Widder shine.

THE MODERN at MOMA New York I never miss a chance to dine at The Modern at the Museum of Modern Art, notably located across the street from Baccarat Hotel. The Modern features a sophisticated environment for Chef Allan refined, contemporary cooking in a beautiful setting overlooking the Abby Aldrich Rockefeller Sculpture Garden. Order from a seasonal menu or to enjoy the tasting menu, which I highly recommend. Every dish is plated like artwork and totally Insta-worthy. Be sure to save room for artistically designed desserts made by Pastry Chef Jiho Kim. The Modern holds two Michelin stars.

Among them is James Beard Award-winning Chef Tony Mantuano, whose four-star Spiaggia is one of the country’s best Italian restaurants and who also served as Bravo’s Top Chef Masters, who is at the helm at Terzo Piano, a beautifully minimalist dining room flooded with natural light that overlooks all highlights of the Windy City— the city skyline, Millennium Park and Lake Michigan.

UNTITLED at THE WHITNEY MUSEUM OF AMERICAN ART New York Danny Meyer’s second museum restaurant Untitled at The Whitney Museum of American Art features farm-to-table takes on New York diner classics. Chef Suzanne Cupps’s bright, artful cooking in an optimistic setting leans heavily into vegetables, and the menu lends itself easily to sharing. Untitled, like the Museum around it, is designed by world-renowned architect Renzo Piano and showcases views of the Hudson River and High Line Park from every seat as well as contemporary American artworks from the Museum collection.
RAY’S | STARK BAR at LA COUNTY MUSEUM OF ART Los Angeles Also designed by architect Renzo Piano, Ray’s | Stark Bar, named in honor of film producer Ray Stark, in the Los Angeles County Museum of Art is a contemporary work of art unto itself. Floor-to-ceiling windows make it look like a jewel box. Dancing teacups designed from 1850 to 1950 float throughout the space. Outside, artist Chris Burden’s iconic “Urban Light” installation of 202 decommissioned Los Angeles-area streetlamps makes for a striking backdrop.

THE COLLECTIONS CAFÉ at CHIHULY GARDEN AND GLASS Seattle A museum in its own right, Chihuly Garden and Glass, offers the culinary side with The Collections Café, which honors glass artist Dale Chihuly’s passion for collecting objects. Vintage accordions hang from the ceiling and glass-topped dining tables double as display cases for clocks and toy soldiers. The food is Northwest hearty—a pressed pork sandwich with apple butter and spicy cider vinegar slaw and expect plenty of craft beers and regional wines.
465 BAR AND RESTAURANT at MUSEUM OF FINE ARTS Boston The Museum of Fine Art’s newest dining venue 465 Bar and Restaurant features executive chef Brian Flagg’s seasonal menu emphasizing fresh local ingredients with an innovative root-to-stalk approach. The restaurant offers a view of world-class art with cocktails or mocktails, a multi-course meal or a quick bite and discussion before or after a film, lecture or program. Originally designed by I. M. Pei, the space has been renovated and redesigned by Bergmeyer.

GRAND ENTRY TOWER
I
am inspired by the contrasts created between the architectural styling of the house design itself by C.P. Drewett, and the amazing Sonoran desert. In the shadow of Camelback Mountain stands this bold stroke of a brilliant white building, with strong horizontal features that are reinforced by the distant McDowell Mountains to the east. Natural materials and a sense of place are integral characteristics of the interiors that we do, and this was where we started. Drewett’s unique building plan encourages the integration between interior and exterior living space—with multiple locations of glass expanses that bring the outside in. C.P. leads with this intention in the first space a guest enters. By not
designing a formal interior space to receive visitors, the architect devoted this covered foyer tower to greeting guests with a dramatic outdoor volume of space that feels much like an interior space. We combined a native flat-weave wool rug, with a strikingly contemporary console table in sandblasted white oak, a found object lamp in French terra cotta, a large format modern painting, along with large antique limestone vessels, planted with tactile species that again blur the line between interior and exterior space. The large pendant light enhances the visitor’s sense of entry. The overall mood of the space is organic, dramatic and natural. To the visitor, the space is ambiguous about whether it is inside or outside.

LIVING ROOM
T
he home’s architecture inspired by Mid-Century Mexican Modernism was the impetus for the interior design of IMI Design’s living room space. The architectural framework of massing, simplistic forms and layered elements are echoed in the appointments of the furnishings space. The innovative Italian sectional is formed with blocks of interlocking cubes, which is a fractal pattern of the home’s structural massing. It also allows for an unconventional way to lounge or socialize within the space. Inspired by the layered windowpanes in the fenestration, the designer echoes the layering in woven textile screens. The
textile art commissioned for the room references Mayan graphics while executed in a medium often used in the sixties and seventies. The neutral palette with hues of black, brown and ivory emphasizes texture and form. Two mirror imaged coffee tables of natural cerused oak incorporate biomorphic forms and a strategic use of negative space. The curation of the room’s pieces includes two 1970s leather sling chairs by Max Gottschalk, a John Rose sculpture and other collectible pieces. The design is guided by architectural inspirations, several layers of international influences, bespoke furnishings and curated accoutrements.

CULINARY & DINING OASIS
T
he Ownby Design team was very humbled and honored to be asked to design the heart of the home in the ICONIC HAUS. The kitchen is an incredibly vital centering space to any home, that needs to be both a functional and inspirational place of gathering. We were inspired predominantly by the platform of the architecture in the home. We are always excited to work with the Drewett Works team, and this project has been no exception. We complimented the work of C.P. Drewett with clean lines, high contrast and a neutral palette as our foundation to build upon. As our team began collaborating on this space, our vision was driven by an emphasis on seamless indoor-outdoor transitions.
From the desert itself, to the many rock outcroppings and surrounding mountains, we strive to pull these organic elements into the spaces we design through a repetition of material, utilizing a neutral palette, rustic pottery and wooden elements along with clean lines to bring the modern luxury our firm is known for. We focused largely on the breathtaking views of Camelback Mountain that envelop the home. You will notice this inspiration in the blackened terra cotta pottery and large-scale flowering branches we curated. Our goal with this design was to highlight the use of rustic organic elements in a highly refined manner, resulting in a stunning kitchen space that is equally warm and inviting as it is luxurious.

MEDIA LOUNGE
T
here was a time in custom luxury home design that most clients requested a dedicated home theater/media room. Today with Netflix and Chill, clients want a more open, multi-functional media room. We were presented with a blank slate with white concrete floors, crisp white walls and a high ceiling, along with an amazing view of Camelback Mountain. Architect C.P. Drewett said he was inspired by Mexican Modern Architect Luis Barragan, and the clean organic feel became our inspiration while also encouraging us to create a more casual lounge vibe by adding a mix of moody textures to the room. Playing off the existing black paneling on the TV wall, we used a Nile blue textural woven jacquard wallcovering aptly named Gaucho Cloth–inspired by South American
Gaucho clothing. To anchor the space, we incorporated a textural wool rug offset with four luxurious chaise lounges upholstered in a deep Ochre Boucle fabric, the perfect spot to shut off the world for a few hours. For a little fun and whimsy, what is better than a statement chair! We didn’t want to block the view, so the carved wood Dual Hand chair fit the space perfectly. The Studio Floor lamp harkens back to the old theater days and had us feeling nostalgic for a little “Casablanca” moment! And what is more nostalgic than a true neon sign custom made for the space. Antique Spanish terra cotta pots gracefully showing their age are pure sculpture in this clean modern space. Finally driving home the lounge vibe, a fabulous painting by Michael Carson adds that bit of sultry sophistication to finish off the room.

ROMANTIC BEDROOM
A
bedroom should be an enveloping experience where you’re comforted and surrounded by luxuries. It’s a place that quiets the mind—a “white space,” if you will. Inspired by this idea, Jaimee Rose Interiors fashioned a bedroom where the black wallpapered walls and black painted ceiling retreat and fade away, and layered white textures, shape and form to build an atmosphere of sophisticated, serene calm.
Black grasscloth wallpaper creates the base note, and a gold dome pendant floats above. A playful feline-footed, four-poster bed adds lightheartedness and vertical form. Textural chairs at the foot of the bed create a cozy place to read or relax. Generous nightstands, layered lighting and art that allows the eye to dream all combine to boost function and form. Sheer white draperies add to the feeling of floating in space.

MODERN BEDROOM
I
nspired by Mid-Century architect Luis Barragan’s belief in vibrant color and shapes, Drewett Works’ minimalistic architecture, paired with our own modern aesthetic, we wanted the space to reflect a modern, clean and natural feel with a hint of playfulness and neutrality. By using clean lines and gentle organic curves, we fused different materials and shapes to achieve a timeless modern bedroom. We incorporated white and pale neutrals with bold, colorful accents adding depth and contrast while inviting natural light to filter through sheer window treatments. Our color palette derived from the vintage canvas art—pulling these bold colors and shapes into the neutral palette. Elements reminiscent of the Mid-Century Modern characteristics, including nontraditional materials such as mixed wood and metal
elements were incorporated to warm up the pale neutral walls. Simple lines in the furnishings compliment the subtle geometric patterns, while keeping with a mostly muted color palette allowing the vibrant accents to add personality. We designed the bed and nightstands to interlock and create a sense of a form-meets-function feel, while adding pops of vibrant colors, a fun desk chair and whimsical yet bold light fixtures to add an element of playfulness. The modern furniture complimented by an iconic Warren Planter-style lounge chair symbolizes chic sophistication from this era. Aiming to have a sense of structure with geometric elements and introducing personality through art, lighting, bedding and accessories, we anchored the space while fusing the overall design.

t Treasure in the Detail, our signature style is warm, modern, cohesive and delightful. While every project is entirely unique, we have woven a level of warmth cohesively throughout our portfolio. Timeless materials presented in a playful and modern way that make a home feel polished yet inviting and restful. The inspiration behind our space for the Laundry Haven was reflective of just that. The hardscape selections include cool tones mixed with black and white finishes which allowed for flexibility and creativity in the overall design creation while still sanctioning a cohesive
story with the rest of the modern home. We love working with neutral pallets while adding in pops of pattern and color to make our designs inviting and fascinating. The laundry room was a perfect space to create this experience. We love how the plaid wallpaper complements the rich tones in the cabinetry while also infusing the space with a modern and spirited edge. The artwork was selected to tie in a minimalist Mid-Century element. The accessories mixed throughout the space not only provide a functional component but deliver texture, depth, and warmth against the cool tones in the finishes.

POWDER ROOM
P
owder rooms have always been especially fun to design, because they represent three things to me. First, a place where a person usually spends time alone(!), and is likely to take the opportunity to closely examine their surroundings. Second, a room in the house that is not a part of the homeowner’s everyday living environment and can therefore be a little more extreme in its design without becoming tiresome. And three, it’s a small enough space that we can use high-end, custom materials without incurring huge costs. A powder
room can also veer off on its own, unique design direction and present an exciting and unexpected experience that leaves a lasting impression. For the powder room in this Iconic Show Haus, I was inspired by the minimalist nature of the architecture, with its simple massing and clean lines. We followed the black and white direction taken in other areas of the house with the continuation of the integral colored concrete floor. In this type of design, simple shapes take precedent over little details, and the impression is an overall clean and fresh experience.

ounded more than 20 years ago by Eddy Doumas, Worth Interiors has gained international recognition for our creative interior architectural concepts, lighting and furnishing designs featured in Architectural Digest, Elle Décor, Traditional Home and LUXE, our work has been noticed. Worth Interiors has established offices in Vail and Denver, along with a New York City satellite and a workspace at the notable Scottsdale Design District. We strive to find balance; combining dramatic elements with subtle detailing, and vice-versa to create a visual tension that inspires and excites. Our goal was to create a private, yet welcoming environment for visitors to this amazing property. Though separated from
the main home, the guest house needed to reflect the hospitality of the homeowner. We wanted to create a livable space that relates to the home’s amazing location in the desert. Special attention was paid to how a guest would use the space—a good night’s rest, breakfast or a card game, or relaxing after a long hike or reading a book. Combining textures and different materials was an important part of the mix. Natural fibers such as linen, alpaca and leathers were combined with lacquer, metals, wood and glass to create an interesting balance. Our color palette was inspired by breathtaking sunrises. We are so grateful to the TOWN team for supporting us as we support the Phoenix Children’s Hospital.

LUXURY MASTER BATH
O
ur master bathroom inspiration began with original artwork by Ken Tate. His pieces are perfect for the vibrancy and punch of color we wanted to add to the neutral palette of the room. We centered the artwork on each water closet entry and offset sculptural pieces from Alexander Sinclair for balance on the floating cabinetry. The colors in the artwork allowed us to be playful with other accessories in the space. LUSH provided us with unique bath products to create a cohesive color scheme in various areas. The bathtub side table from
Bellini also served as a vehicle for the color scheme. Another Bellini piece is a teak side table located in the shower, hosting LUSH soap and Waterworks accessories. Simple white towels with a subtle geometric shape and ink-injected resin bath accessories float seamlessly in a translucent acrylic encasing ground the bright colors as they layer the room. Clear crystals from Aviva Stanoff located on the makeup vanity create repetition of forms found on the towels and the Gabby Home bench underneath echoes the clear theme in this vignette.

onsistent with a design philosophy that seeks to combine beauty and functionality, luxury closet designer Jennifer Wilson of SPACE BAZAAR envisioned the atmosphere of the master bedroom dressing room to reflect privacy, sophisticated richness and timeless beauty combining detailed Italian craftsmanship that is intimately connected to the spirit and allure of the architecture. A closet space worthy of your expensive designer clothing and collected treasures, Jennifer has blended Italian brand Porro’s modern technology and materials creating a classic, tailored aesthetic. An elegant pathway softened by wood tones leads from the linen hallway into the primary dressing room.
Luxurious touches range from integrated lighting, iron and glass doors, and a custom designed island showcasing glass drawer fronts with a saddle leather top. She has paired it with a simple seating arrangement featuring Flexform’s ABC chair upholstered in a beautiful refined gray fabric with soft tobacco-color leather piping along the armrests, and Fly side table with marble top and satin chrome base, which emphasizes the central function that allows you to shop in your own home boutique. Closets are no longer an afterthought of the architecture rather an integral part of the initial design process, and Jennifer’s clients tell her the closet is their favorite room in the house.

PRIVATE OWNER’S ESCAPE
T
hrough a combination of teamwork and imagination, we partnered with Detailed Metal Concepts, Arizona Hardwood, Brown Jordan and Torzala Custom Renovations to create a serene exterior retreat. Our patio design was inspired by a terrarium’s private yet inviting simplicity. With a strong connection to modern materiality, the room eloquently expresses the repetitive principals that remain all too unnoticed in nature. Crystal clear surfaces and rectilinear steel lines elegantly veil an internal environment of vibrant foliage. The translucent bedroom windows serve as the glass envelope for the viewer to peer into the natural and idyllic world within. Coupled with delicate supple plants and stark raw steel panels, clear coated teak furniture and jute sprout from
a milky concrete bed. As the guest enters the environment, they are transported to a living creation as if they were within a quiet and peaceful terrarium, unaffected by the chaos of everyday life. The design allows the visitor to sit back and embrace the soothing sanctuary, surrendering their mind to wander as their fingers dance over raw wood grain of the cozy chairs. We divided the space to the outside world with clean benches that demonstrate the literal juxtaposition of wood piercing a concrete domain. By showcasing the contrast of delicate greenery floating on an austere metal surface and balancing elements of warm wood and fibers flourishing on a cold concrete base, we are celebrating the duality of the terrarium that influenced our design.

hen given the opportunity to do an exterior space at the Iconic Haus, our focus was to create an unforgettable outdoor experience. We wanted the space to be beautiful, functional and fun! Outdoor living in Arizona is just as important as indoors, so we designed a space where people could take advantage of our glorious weather and easily transition between the indoor and outdoor spaces. We chose black furnishings for contrast against the white background
of the home and to bring visual interest, without taking away from the beautiful desert surroundings. In addition, the different textures of the fabrics and rugs give depth and dimension to the space. An outdoor ping pong table and corn-hole boards provide fun and entertainment for all ages! If you just need to put your feet up and relax, the fire pit provides the perfect place to sit and visit with friends. And, of course if you’re thirsty, just grab a seat at the bar and watch the big game.

INDOOR OUTDOOR LIVING
T
he landscape architecture design of the ICONIC HAUS 2020 is inspired by the modern minimalist architecture of the home. The main focus of the design is to not overpower the sophisticated architecture, but rather to compliment with striking broad strokes of massing plant material.
The developer requested a lush non-desert plant palette for the Cameldale community, so vibrant bushes and grasses were selected. Accents of Aloes and Hesperaloes are used for their striking architectural form. Lowgrowing trees were carefully selected so that coveted views from the community are

OUTDOOR LIVING EXPERIENCE
T
he outdoor living space for the 2020 ICONIC HAUS is a stylish reflection of the architectural spirit of this home…a modern and minimalist space with accents of color and shape. The home is designed by local award-winning architect, C.P. Drewitt, who was inspired by the Mexican architect, Luis Barragon, who used simple lines and planes with right angles, and added drama with light, shadow and bold saturated colors. Modern style is an exercise in restraint. It means less visual clutter and more emphasis on key elements—shape, shadow, color and scale. The sculptural round swing is a fun spot for relaxation and is a contrasting
shape to the straight, clean lines of the fireplace. The large-scale abstract art piece was commissioned by artist Niki Woehler, and its colors are moody and beautifully layered. Artful and dramatic pieces like this give personality to a space and this canvas is meant to BE the wall rather than just a piece hung ON a wall. We chose to use the STILL collection from Brown Jordan, the premier sponsor of this Iconic Estate. It has a retro modern vibe and the elegant flair that we needed for our outdoor living room…a place for evening cocktails and loungey parties. Relax and enjoy!

ly into Shannon Airport and begin your Irish adventure on the west coast in County Clare. The county boasts some of the most picturesque Irish scenes and is known for the Cliffs of Moher, overlooking the Atlantic Ocean, the Poulnabrone Dolman, Neolithic tomb and Bunratty Castle, a 13th Century castle that is now the heart of a heritage park Naturally in castle country, you need to stay in your own castle and the justrefurbished 16th Century Dromoland Castle is the best place to call home. Set on 450 acres, the castle boasts 97 guest rooms and suites, and original artwork by acclaimed Irish artist John
Brennan. Enjoy Waterford Crystal chandeliers, hand-woven Venetian silk wall coverings, ancestral art, stained glass windows and other luxurious appointments fit for the king of the manor. While at the castle, steep yourself in history, partaking in the activities a royal might have years ago including clay shooting, falconry or archery. Or try your luck fishing for trout on Dromoland Lough or the world-class 18-hole golf course. Dining at Dromoland is an epicurean delight whether in the fine dining, Earl of Thomond restaurant, to a traditional fireside afternoon tea. But perhaps our favorite was rowing out on the lake with a Champagne picnic in tow.

Savor This Sexy New Tequila by Livia Hooson

e love a high-end spirit that can be savored solo and not chased. Robin Clough is the 29-year-old, London-based entrepreneur who has debuted an award-winning tequila that is designed to be exactly that; savored rather than chased. Entering the premium spirits industry is no easy feat as tequilas are one of the fastest-growing categories in a billion-dollar industry, with competitors like megadistributors Diageo and brands with celebrity backing like Rande Gerber and George Clooney’s Casamigos. But Robin and his team, which all together make up some of the youngest founding members of an international luxury liquor brand, are breaking onto the scene with their disruptive and ultra-sexy brand, Tequila Enemigo.

Clough, along with Mexican native, Sebastian Gonzalez and fellow British native, Max Davies-Gilbert initially launched in the UK in the fall of 2017. They partnered up with Park Avenue Liquor in New York City and debuted their 500 first-edition bottles branded exclusively with a sleek, black and gold design, with their tequila on shelves in three continents in less than three years.
five International Double Gold awards, more than any other tequila brand last year. The company’s top-tier bottle of Enemigo 00 Extra Añejo has a long maturation time in American Oak barrels (never reconstituted barrels) leaving the consumer with a balanced amber spirit with notes of caramel and orange. Their Enemigo 89 Añejo Cristalino tequila is aged traditionally for more than a year, then put through a three-phase filtration system that purifies the spirit to create a clear and distinct flavor with hints of coconut and vanilla.
“Enemigo” (Spanish for enemy) is a forward way to let the public know Clough and his team are challenging the standards of what tequila should be. A reminder to ditch the mixtos (agave and sugar) for a 100-percent, agave-derived spirit from Mexico’s western state of Jalisco. This bold move in the spirits game is a strategically savvy play that has quickly secured them awards of excellence across the board. Tequila Enemigo has won
We caught up with the globetrotting millennial to find out why tequila and why now.
? Why tequila? Robin Clough: It all came down to this one moment when I was traveling to Mexico right after business school, where Sebastian and I met, and we decided to taste some tequila at a roadside café. I was very apprehensive to drink it because of my past experiences with the spirit. I had always seen tequila as a spirit that should be consumed late at night
as a ritual punishment between friends. After sipping this authentic agave drink, I was blown away! It was a subtle, complex and refined liquid that we tasted alongside our meal for a few hours. Since that awakening, we began brainstorming. When something changes your perception, it is an exciting moment that you want to create from.

You have created a completely unique recipe, hand-designed with your tequilero in Mexico. What sets you apart from other premium tequilas? RC: Many tequilas are designed around premade recipes from the tequileros instead of being custom curated. The Cristalino 89 is in a narrow category within a larger category of thousands of tequilas. Of these, about only 34 are aged and then filtered. Therefore, our Cristalino is a clear spirit with complexities of wood and a subtle ageing profile. The 89 represents the number of iterations that it took to get to the end product.
Our Extra AĂąejo has a full-bodied profile with a hint of agave, demerara, tobacco and a touch of vanilla. Developing for about 30 seconds after you sip it, it is a pleasant surprise for a tequila with this level of complexity to develop gradually and always with an undertone of velvety subtleness. Alongside our tequilero in Mexico, we conducted blind taste tests to create both of our tequilas; bringing the best we could to the table.
How are sustainability and loyalty to your tequileros part of your brand? RC: Sustainability is at the front of everything we do. For example, the first time we got down to Jalisco, there was an agave crisis, and it has become an endangered species because of the demand on the blue agave. They are no longer on the endangered list, but that put things into perspective for us. So, we make environmentally conscious choices through each process. Because of modern technology, we use 50 percent less water at our distillery, and we use leftover agave husks to fuel our ovens. In addition, we ensure fair treatment of our farmers. Because the price fluctuates for agave every eight to 10 years, we have set a minimum price for what we pay our farmers, ensuring they will always get paid what they deserve, no matter the shift in industry price.

Serving and Sipping Tequila Tips
1.
2. 3.
Taking a note from the well-known wine glass company, Riedel, our tequila is recommended to be sipped out of long-stemmed flutes in order to savor the spirit with intention. Clough really does not want to tell you how to drink your beverage (there is no right way), but he prefers utilizing this style of glass that is designed for the spirit to be tasted first on the tip of the tongue than pulled slowly from the deep-bottom. The AĂąejo Cristalino makes a wonderful marinade for gravlax and other seafood including oysters and caviar. The Extra AĂąejo is an excellent choice to close off a heavier meal such as steak and enjoyed with a cigar for a digestif with family and friends.

LAST WORD
Gracious Greenery It’s Time to Clear the Air by Jillian Vaughn It is a shocking fact that the air inside your home is between two to five times more polluted than the air outside, according to the EPA. In fact, burning fireplaces, candles and unclean ductwork and/or molds can make indoor air quality up to 100 times more toxic than outside air. Architects, designers and builders alike know the appeal of bringing “the outside in,” and design spaces to bring that natural element into your home. Plants can not only improve the aesthetic appeal of your indoor environment, but they can be nature’s housekeeper, purifying the air quality inside your home into fresh, oxygenated air so you and your family can enjoy a healthy home environment. Plants use carbon dioxide in the way we use oxygen. When you have plants in your home, they take in carbon dioxide and give off oxygen, in addition to serving as Mother Nature’s air purifier.
