TURNED OFF BY TOO NICE!
I am not an advocate for dating any man just because he’s nice to you. “Nice” is the bare minimum when it comes to relationship compatibility, and I don’t think any woman owes a man her attention just because he consistently does sweet things. But I will say that when we have been in continuously unhealthy or abusive relationships, and the thought of someone “too nice” or “too considerate” completely turns you off or makes you downright sick…you have to consider where that’s coming from. According to Dr Amir Levine, author of Attached, based on how we were treated by family members or past lovers, we develop attachment styles that can shape who we are attracted to. He outlines the three attachment styles as anxious, avoidant or secure. Here’s is how Levine outlines the three attachment styles, according to a Vice report. Secure: feels comfortable with intimacy and are warm and loving. Anxious: craves intimacy, often preoccupied with relationships and longs to get closer with their partner.
Avoidant: equates intimacy with loss of independence, distancing self, the idea that something better is around the corner. For example, if you have an avoidant attachment style, someone who is secure may turn you off. It will feel like something is “wrong” because they are not distant or inconsistent. “Because you are used to equating an activated attachment system with love,” Levine wrote, “you conclude that this can’t be ‘the one’ because something is missing, for some reason no bells are going off. You associate a calm attachment system with boredom and indifference, and because of this fallacy you may let the perfect person pass you by.” So while it takes self-awareness and work with a therapist to really sort out why people who are potentially good for you “gross you out,” it’s not impossible to resolve. Next time you feel a little nauseous from just kind behavior, it’s worth considering, why?

SUPERSTAR KAY Superstar Kay was born Christopher Richardson in February 1990 in Cleveland, OH. His interest in music was developed at an early age when he was encouraged by his aunt to sing in church. Initially music was literally just an interest, but fashion design was his passion. It wasn’t until he decided to try his attempt at producing when he found out he was really good at it and began to nurture that talent. He established Khyng-Jayden Productions in 2001 and was highly successful starting out. He later signed producers Akitak (Memphis, TN) and Chase (Houston, TX). In 2012 Superstar Kay moved to Valdosta, GA and established 937 Magazine, an online publication that catered to independent artist. After a year he decided to place 937 Magazine on hiatus and went back to focusing more on producing. To make himself more appealing as a producer he began writing and donating his voice for hooks. In 2015, he moved to Indianapolis, IN and opened The Shadow Gallery, and added engineering to his resume. In late 2016, after growing tired of mumble rap and meaningless lyrics being glorified, Superstar Kay decided it was time to emerge from behind the scenes and become a recording artist. His singles “Club Lights”, “Overtime”, “Pilots”, and “Wan More Luv” have received a large number of plays and positive reviews. Since 2016, SuperStar Kay has released two studio albums (with the latest consisting of 60 tracks), seven playlists, and eight singles. SuperStar Kay was named “Artist of the Week” on NapRadio.com, was featured in Straight Official and NUTTS Magazines, and has been interviewed on a number of internet radio shows and podcasts. He has performed throughout his hometown of Cleveland, Columbus, Pittsburgh, and Indianapolis. His music is available on all streaming platforms. Q. When did you know you wanted to be an artist and how did you get started? A. I knew that I wanted to be a recording artist a few years ago and started recording in 2016. I got started in the music industry as a producer while still a teenager. In working with artists and experiencing music as a fan I thought that I could do what the others were doing and maybe better and started putting myself to the test. Q. From where does your creativity flow? And how do you stay motivated? A. It flows through emotion. Whatever mood I am in, there’s always music for it. Creating is therapeutic for me. It’s how I release. As long as I am still breathing there is always emotion used to express everything. Q. What is your overall vision behind your music? A. I always aim to deliver the best product possible. I try to put myself in the shoes of the listeners and think about what they want to hear. I strive to make music that anyone can relate to all while avoiding being boxed in as an artist. Q. You are currently pushing your single, “Wan More Luv”; what was the concept behind your latest single release?
A. With my single, Wan More Luv, I wanted to be able to express my emotions behind love and my desire to get a person’s one hundred percent in a relationship. I gave it a reggae/island feel to add a different texture to a conversation or situation we’ve all had or desire. It adds a bounce and a different groove; I just
hoped the listeners would be able to relate to it.
Q.How do you separate yourself from other artists? A. I separate myself from other artists by the amount of work I put in. I work when everyone else is sleeping and do things that others won’t do. I’m constantly challenging myself to tap into different genres and styles of music. I write, produce, and record myself most of the time and in an effort to keep myself fresh I stay studying my crafts. I make myself go the extra mile and add another mile putting distance between us. Q. You just released a playlist as well, titled “NightFall 3”; what was your inspiration behind it? A. Nightfall 3 is the third installment of a playlist series that allows me to connect with my roots. I’ve always done my Nightfall projects for the city of Cleveland and for the family more than anything else and this one is no different. I seek out production elsewhere that helps set the tone for each individual track and I add lyrics (either singing or rapping) that resonate with everything that’s “home” to me. Q. What advice do you have for aspiring producers and artists? A. Don’t stop! To anyone out there pursuing any kind of dream just keep going regardless of what’s going on; every time you feel you want to stop go twice as hard. Music is something that’s timeless, you’re not getting too old for it. If your competition is giving one hundred percent then you give a thousand. Keep chasing your dreams. Believe in yourself and don’t let anyone else cause you to question your abilities. Specifically to artists; learn as much about this industry and your craft as you possibly can. Q. Who would you like to work with in the future? A. I would really like to work with some of my favorite artists like Future, Chris Brown, T-Pain; but really I’m open to work with anyone who has a high and incredibly solid work ethic. Q. What is next for Superstar Kay? A. Just continuing to deliver the best music possible to my listeners and fans. I plan to get back on stage and deliver very power performances. With so many drivers hitting the roads again, a car travel preparation checklist can ensure you’ll enjoy the full experience. Car care expert and Engineering Explained YouTube channel creator Jason Fenske has taken more road trips than he can count. While Fenske has his share of favorite destinations and Instagrammable spots, more than anything else, he knows how to prep for a drive, long or short. “Before you head out, make sure your car is ready,” said Fenske. “Car care is necessary year-round, but it’s especially crucial before rolling out on vacation. You don’t want to get stuck in an unfamiliar place with a vehicle in need of serious maintenance. Fortunately, you can minimize the chances of a car breakdown with adequate preparation.” Vehicle maintenance can ensure a trouble-free trip

Check your tires To maximize tire life and safety, check the tire condition and inflation pressure. Under-inflated tires are more likely to blow out in high heat and can also reduce fuel economy. Check your owner’s manual to find the recommended air pressure for your vehicle. While checking your tire pressure, check the tread on your tires, too. This is easy to do by sticking a penny in the tread gaps with Lincoln’s head facing down. If his head is fully visible, you need new tires. 2. Check your fluids Cars need a specific amount of clean fluids. For the brakes, clutch, power steering, windshield washers, transmission, differentials or coolant - you’ll want to make sure these fluids are at the right level. To ensure peak vehicle performance, Fenske recommends an annual tune-up to have fluids checked and/or replaced, while checking other safety systems on your vehicle. 3. Get an oil change Regular oil changes help prevent engine wear and can save gas. It’s best to change your oil and oil filter as specified in your owner’s manual. “Changing your oil regularly is crucial to keeping your vehicle running its best,” says Fenske. “But the type of oil you use can really help ensure your car is running at optimal performance, especially if you’re going to be driving long distances. That’s why it’s important to put the right, high-quality oil in your vehicle.” If you’re using conventional oil, Fenske suggests switching to a synthetic motor oil such as Mobil 1, which can keep your engine running like new. Mobil 1 motor oil not only helps combat harmful deposits in your engine, but also helps stop engine sludge, reduces overheating, and offers advanced engine wear protection. If you’ve already completed a road trip and didn’t change your oil as part of the prep, that’s OK too - post-trip maintenance is a great idea to keep your vehicle running smoothly. 4. Plan ahead in case of an emergency Keep an emergency kit in your trunk in case your vehicle breaks down. Include a gallon of drinking water, jumper cables, windshield washer fluid, basic tools, gloves, a flashlight with spare batteries and a first aid kit.
5. Save your directions You never know when you’ll encounter loss of service on your devices, so make sure you save your directions. Print off your trip as backup or take screenshots on your cell phone so that if you encounter a spotty service area, you’ll know where you’re heading no matter what. 6. Check the battery Excessive heat and overcharging can shorten your car’s battery life. Hot summer weather is tough on car batteries because it increases the evaporation of battery fluid and damages its internal structure. Batteries last around five years on average, so Fenske says if it’s old, you may need to replace it. If the battery is relatively new you should: * Inspect terminals and posts for corrosion * Make sure terminals are tight and have proper lubrication * Check battery fluid levels
How the pandemic has changed rush hour (BPT) - It is an indisputable fact that the COVID-19 pandemic changed a lot about Americans’ daily lives, including relationships with vehicles. While Hankook Tire’s latest Gauge Index found that 60% of Americans are driving every day, as opposed to only 19% in April 2020, many habits behind the wheel have shifted in light of the pandemic, too. 1) Americans are spending less money at the gas pump. The COVID-19 pandemic quickly closed many regular driving destinations, including office buildings, schools, restaurants and retail, which in turn gave drivers fewer places to go. While the amount of driving expected over the next few months is still uncertain, the positive impact on wallets is still there: 70% of Americans say that they have spent less money on gas since the start of the pandemic. And when they do need to fill up the tank, drivers are strategic about it. Since the pandemic, over three-fourths (77%) make a plan to get gas while running errands to limit their time out of the house.
2) There are designated errand runs - and designated runners. Americans are also strategic with how and when they leave the house for essentials. Many are not comfortable making a quick run to the store to pick up something they forgot for dinner. Nearly two-thirds (64%) say they now save all their errands for one day or do curbside orders to limit potential exposure to the virus. Another half (53%) have a designated errand runner, so only one person must leave the house. 3) Rush hour is less rushed. With more Americans continuing to work from home and students taking classes online, rush hour is proving less intense. Nearly two-thirds (63%) of drivers recognize that normal traffic patterns have shifted since the start of 2020. Another 65% confirm there is less traffic on their regular routes - though that largely depends on where you live. Hankook found that drivers in the Northeast saw the most significant impact on their regular traffic flow, where 71% of drivers say their daily routes have fewer cars on the road. 4) Comfort levels are shifting gears. As a result of the pandemic, 75% of Americans are not comfortable using public transportation. However, confidence behind the wheel is down, too - just over a third (36%) say they are less confident driving since the start of the pandemic, perhaps because they aren’t doing so as often. Interestingly enough, men are almost twice as likely to say they’re less confident behind the wheel as women ... 44% vs. 28%. Additionally, people are careful about who they drive with. Two-thirds (66%) are not comfortable getting into a car that belongs to someone outside their household. Another two-thirds (63%) are not comfortable having passengers from outside their household in their own vehicle. 5) Face masks are the new sunglasses. 2020 has not just changed when and where people use their cars, it is also changing what they keep in them. Most Americans (81%) keep a face mask in their car, the Gauge found. More than half (55%) have a designated spot for it in their vehicles - be it in the glove compartment, center console, rearview mirror or the gear shift. And 72% say they have hand sanitizer in their vehicle, too. Which of these trends will stick around and which are more temporary reactions to a tumultuous year remains to be seen. However, one thing is for certain: The COVID-19 pandemic significantly impacted how Americans view, use and depend on their vehicles.

I am LaToya Francois “The Full Figured Model” ! I am a Model based out of Atlanta, Georgia. Born in 1984 in Baton Rouge, Louisiana I have always aspired to be in the modeling industry. My mother speaks about me always ready to pose at any given moment! In the early years of my life I was very confident in myself and I thank my grandmother for that. Like most people I did have my moments where I compared myself to others and I remember voicing these concerns to my last grandmother Alice Woods. Each time I mentioned what I thought may have been a flaw she came back with a positive way to look at things and I am grateful for her. Now, can I say that I stayed confident throughout my entire life? If I say that I did I would not not be truthful. In high school I found myself tackling low self esteem. High school is a critical time in life where one may be looking for acceptance in some of the wrong places. I fell into that unhappy place of allowing others to tell me that I was not pretty because I was heavier than others. The person who made me question myself the most was the caption of my high school football team. I had the hugest crush on him! One day I built enough nerves to tell him that I was interested in him, and that same day he tore me down. Being told that I was pretty but too big was a huge blow to my confidence. Throughout my high school career I held on to that statement and allowed it to define me. Years later after graduating high school and moving life I started remembering all of the uplifting words that my grandmother used to build my confidence, watching my mother be jazzy as a Full Figured woman, and also seeing someone on TV that I felt looked like me in a movie when the comedian Mo’ Nique showed up on the scene as a confident full figured woman. Since then I have built myself into the woman I am today and I’m able to show true confidence to other women who look like me. Oh! Remember the caption of the football team? I did have a chance to tell him how he scared me in high school. Needless to say he did take a moment to try to pursue me but I humbly declined. Just hearing him say “ If I knew then what I knew now about a fuller woman I would have thought twice about what I said to you.” That was the most satisfying moment in my life! HOW AND WHEN DID I BEGIN MY MODELING CAREER? I began my career in 2015 starting with the modeling group known as “Phenomenally Plush”. This group promoted self-love and body positivity and I knew this was something that I had to be a part of because it stood for something that I had to be a part of because it stood for something that I hold near and dear to my heart. Finding myself working hard within this group, it catapulted me into being featured on the cover, representing the month of April, and on the back cover of the very first Plus Size Calendar published in the state of Louisiana!! The calendar named “BIG BEAUTIFUL BOSSES was well received throughout the capital area of Baton Rouge and surrounding areas!! I later booked the Phenomenally Plush Fashion show hitting the runway with confidence and grace. After a short period the calendar was released and I was crowned Beauty of the Year 2016!! The crowning and recognition led to more bookings allowing multiple fashion shows throughout South Louisiana. I was even named “The Show Stopper” due to a gaining fan base and increasing popularity. First let me say, I never saw myself in the Pageantry world. When the opportunity was placed in front of me I passed on it at first. I just couldn’t see myself as a “pageant girl”. I already had a background in modeling and being fierce and I figure Pageantry and Modeling just didn’t mix. The opportunity to be a part of the Ms.Full-Figured USA Louisiana Pageant came around a second time and I found myself being encouraged from many near and far to step out and do something outside of my comfort zone. On June 3, 2017 I hit the stage in style and grace. The pageant forced me to tap into my more dainty side and be on stage in a softer way. By competing in the Ms. Full-Figured Figured USA Louisiana Pageant allowed me to gain more experience to add to my repertoire. Needless to say I did not win or even place in the pageant that night, but definitely am grateful for the experience and thankful for the other opportunities that have come along by not winning a title. Only 3 & 1/2 years ago I decided to relocate to Atlanta, Georgia for a bigger piece of the industry and to gain more exposure and access to the exciting vast industry of Modeling! Since being here I’ve graced many stages showcasing the walk that earned myself the name “The Show Stopper”! Also in the short time that I have been in Georgia I was given the opportunity to be the spear-
head for the Georgia branch of the Ms. Full Figured Pageant. When the opportunity was presented to me I definitely doubted myself because I did not know much about my new stomping grounds that I now call home. I THOUGHT WE WAS JUST MEETING FOR COFFEE! BODY DIVERSITY IN FASHION
Looking retrospectively at 2017 the industry cited important shifts across the diversity spectrum and for the year that was, racial diversity came out the winner with 32.5% of the top international publications featuring people of colour, a 3.5% increase over 2017. (The fashion spot) Body diversity saw a marginal increase from the previous year and it’s greatest triumph the inclusion of 90 ‘plus size’ models on the runways for Spring Fashion Week in New York. The real figures though revealing that the 90 who walked, represented less than 4% of the 2601 runway appearances in total. Not quite as impressive, but yes still an important step in the right direction. The least exciting number for body diversity was it’s representation across the top international publications with just 1% of plus size models featured, showing a marginal increase on 2016’s 0.9%. That number equates to just 8 covers out of 679 belonging to a model, size 12 or over. These numbers are significant because they tell a story and part of that narrative is that the real work on the inclusion of diverse representation within the fashion industry has only just begun with much work needing to be done if we want to see this small yet meaningful increasing advancing to normal. The Fashion Law cited the Washington Post fashion critic Robin Givhan in stating, “We need to get to a point at which inclusiveness feels organic. And IS organic. That we get to a point where the shows feel like they are speaking to the wide range of consumers, but without turning the runway into some kind of human assembly line in which one-of-each is the standard.” As consumers, we look to the industry to lead the change, but are our expectations a little misplaced? Is it only the responsibility of the ‘giants’? I have been recently challenged myself with this question; not that of the importance of diversity in body image because I am 100% behind that, but found myself wrestling with how this belief shows up in my own life and in my work as a fashion stylist. The catalyst, a newly launched swimwear label I was introduced to, Harmony Swim. This is a brand that not only speaks the message of beauty at every size, but also demonstrates the heart of their message visually in the upfront marketing of their brand, and that, is unfortunately rare. So the question remains. How authentic is our support of body diversity in our everyday? Do we genuinely back the message or are we simply giving it lip service? How do we really feel about cellulite on the runway, in our magazines and instagram feeds? Are we comfortable with that? And if the answer is yes, how are we personally promoting that message? And to the high street and mainstream fashion brands, the brands that the vast majority of us are wearing; size ranges might well be available from a size 4 to a 16, but how many of them are using size 16 models to front campaigns? The requirement doesn’t just rest on the shoulders of Vogue or Harpers Bazaar, or even New York Fashion Week. It has to become ingrained in our personal value system as individuals, as consumers, as fashion retailers, and as designers, stylists, photographers, and hair and make up artists, creative directors and influencers. And yes, Vogue. My feeling is that it’s going to take a shift from ‘the one’ to fuel and support the work that is being done at the top. The truth is the platform for body diversity is emerging even if the stats look small and new opportunities are starting to develop but this mountain is a long way from being conquered and until we start to consider our individual role in the game, 1% just might remain 1%.
