INTRODUCTION WELCOME TO OUR FOURTH FESTIVAL OF CHICHESTER. IT HARDLY SEEMS POSSIBLE. OUR FOURTH ALREADY! Time passes so quickly. But time also puts us in a lovely position. It means we can enjoy the best of all possible worlds. We are still a very young festival, but we are also a festival which has established itself remarkably quickly. And that’s why we have been able to put together our best programme yet for 2016. Once again, our bedrock is the fantastic range of clubs, societies and personalities which makes Chichester such a fun and exciting place to live and work. To these we have added some fantastic talents from further afield to offer a perfectly-balanced programme for the summer ahead. From mid-June to mid-July, Chichester will be the place to be with a wonderful line-up including music of all kinds and events ranging from speakers to plays and from community concerts to art exhibitions. New for this year – and hugely exciting – is a big-name music festival in Priory Park with guests including Sophie Ellis Bextor, Paul Jones and The Manfreds, Seth Lakeman, The Feeling, Martin Simpson, Courtney Pine and Chichester’s very own Zoë Rahman. Take a look through the pages that follow, and you will find plenty to whet your appetite. We are now one of the biggest arts festivals on the south coast – and one of the best. Come along and support us. Bring your friends. Let’s make sure our brilliant programme gets the audiences it deserves. But first a few thanks. The Festival of Chichester has always enjoyed a close and treasured relationship with the Chichester Observer which has once again offered us magnificent support this year. We are also hugely indebted to all our key local authorities. Chichester City Council has always been a generous
supporter; last year they were joined in their support by Chichester District Council. This year we have scored a hat-trick with West Sussex County Council also coming on board. We are massively grateful to all of them. So, everything is now in place. All that remains is for you to provide our audience. Spread the word. Tell everyone you know. The Festival of Chichester offers the perfect celebration of the city this summer. Phil Hewitt (chairman) and Barry Smith (co-ordinator)
The Festival of Chichester committee is:Phil Hewitt, Barry Smith, Anne Scicluna, Helen Watt, Anthony Cane, Jill Cook, Felicity Masters & Rebecca Robertson.
