tar Treff, third-grade teacher at Cooley Ranch Elementary in Colton, California recently added play director for NASA’s Space School Musical to her list of accomplishments as a teacher. The full length musical, written and provided by NASA’s Jet Propulsion Lab, was performed by fourth through sixth grade students at her school. A public recording is available on YouTube. Treff reports “For weeks we heard the kids singing science songs. Excitement was electric from teachers, kids, and parents alike. We had so many parents comment that it was the best play they had ever seen at our school.” Treff was ecstatic that not only did students excel in their artistic abilities, but they retained and PHOTO CJUSD mastered the included Science After completing Endeavor’s 5-course Certificate in STEM Leadership program, earning an additional endorsement as a Distinguished STEM Educator, Cooley Ranch Elementary 3rd grade NASA, cont. on next pg. teacher Star Treff reports that it is her students who are benefiting the most from her training.

Valley College math instr uctor, CHS grad publishes book on global travels

My general philosophy is, have I been? No? Okay, then — let’s go,” Dr. Jeremiah Gilbert said with a laugh. An avid traveler, the San Bernardino Valley College (SBVC) mathematics professor has carried a wide-angle lens through more than 80 countries. He enjoys chronicling the places around him — both at home and abroad. This year, a compilation of his circular photographs was published in the local anthology San Bernardino, Singing, and his book of travel tales was published, titled Can’t Get There From Here: Fifty Tales of Travel.

Jeremiah Gilbert, a San Bernardino native, Colton High graduate, San Bernardino Valley College mathematics professor, and current Loma Linda resident, is an avid traveler and photographer who penned tales of his travels in a new book Can’t Get There from Here: Fifty Tales of Travel. His website jeremiahgilbert.com showcases his photography from abroad and short stories. Jeremiah has traveled to 85 countries thus far.

Many people with his level of interest in other cultures and societies might have chosen to live abroad temporarily or permanently, but not Gilbert. He currently resides in Loma Linda and teaches today in the same Travels, cont. on next pg.
