Keep your electricity owing & business growing

Uninterrupted power supply is the goal of every power transmission and distribution company, but many problems lie in the path of achieving it. These problems can lead to unnecessary shutdowns, and can cause huge monetary and man-hour losses. To help power companies achieve highest efďŹ ciency, FLIR brings a wide range of thermal imaging cameras and T&M products.

Substation Thermal Image

FLIR’s wide range of products for predictive and preventive maintenance These products help in detecting hot spots from a safe distance, avoiding unwanted shutdowns, identifying hazardous SF6 gas leakage, monitoring high voltage electrical substations continuously from remote location, etc.

From the President’s Desk

Dear Friends Wishing you a very happy and Prosperous New year! The recent in principle agreement between US & China on phase 1 deal is a big positive for global trade and investment. Also, there is clarity coming in on Brexit. These have removed a layer of uncertainty and augurs well for India too. As 2019 grinds to a close, all hopes are now pinned on 2020. With GDP growth in India slowing to 4.5% during July to Sept quarter, manufacturing activity contracting and inflation slowly creeping up, we are waiting for some signs of green shoots going into 2020. On one side, there are expectations that government will initiate further reforms including personal taxation, better credit conditions and its improved transmission, on the other side there are also some hopes that economy will finally show signs of responding to government’s past spending and cut in corporate taxes attracting new manufacturing activity. Last couple of months, we have been seeing demand for power consumption dropping. This is being attributed to extended monsoons & consequent low demand in Agri sector and also reduction in cooling requirement in residential & commercial sectors. However, muted activity in factories has also been one of the major reasons for fall in demand for electivity. Good news is that most recent trends seem to be hinting at reversal with electricity requirement since 16th Dec been more that corresponding period of last year. Let us see how it shapes up in coming months. We are elated to learn about the much-awaited new power sector distribution scheme with an estimated capital outlay of Rs 2 trillion. This is aimed at better infrastructure, smart metering & private franchisee model for improved power supply in states. The scheme will replace UDAY which is coming to an end in March 2020. We await more details & are also anxiously waiting for the new tariff policy awaiting parliamentary approval. These outcomes are extremely important for our members to aid higher capacity utilization in factories & ensure growth in business which for the last 6 to 8 months has not been favorable. The eventful year for IEEMA ended with the annual T&D conclave with 300 plus delegates, host of industry experts and speakers from outside industry, including a very interesting panel discussion on “One nation, one grid”. Our Western & Eastern regions also firmed up their committees & their formal meetings took place in the month with lot of enthusiasm paving way for further broad banding membership & all-inclusive approach at regional level. With this, now we are proud to have a fully functional Regional set up to work in tandem with our Divisions & fully aligned with the National Executive Council. I will keep you informed on its progress from time to time. Talking about our biggest & Mega event, ELECRAMA 2020, roadshows at Vadodara & Jaipur evoked superb response from members & nonmembers alike with state utilities & industries participating whole heartily, all set to visit Elecrama. Countdown has already begun with less than a month to go & we are sure without any doubt, Elecrama 2020 would continue to be the biggest T&D show globally. New age technologies, Skilling up & sustainability are going to ne the highlights of the event to aid visitors & exhibitors understand & adapt an all electrical world. I personally invite all of you to be part of this unique experience called ELECRAMA. See you there! Wishing you & families again best of times & all the good luck.

Countdown begins for ELECRAMA 2020

India is ready to embrace the future of mobility The Indian mobility sector is currently a mass of contradictions. Undoubtedly, it has garnered political will, and the major automakers in the country see electric vehicles (EVs) and connectivity as the way forward. However, they also realise that this requires radical change, if not a total disruption of current business culture..
