Keep your electricity flowing & business growing

Uninterrupted power supply is the goal of every power transmission and distribution company, but many problems lie in the path of achieving it. These problems can lead to unnecessary shutdowns, and can cause huge monetary and man-hour losses. To help power companies achieve highest efficiency, FLIR brings a wide range of thermal imaging cameras and T&M products.

From the President’s Desk

Dear Friends, India climbed 14 rungs in the World Bank’s Ease of Doing Business 2020 survey to stand at 63 among 190 countries, making it one of the World’s top 10 most important countries for the third consecutive time. Infact, India’s ranking has improved 79 places from 142 in 2014, a record for a major economy. On the economic front, though the incoming data continued to remain benign, Government’s reform push on corporate taxation and accommodative monetary policy stance is likely to steadily provide the necessary strength to economy in medium to long term. The IMF sees Indian economic growth rebounding to around 7 per cent in the next FY, supported by various reforms which have the potential to OHDG WR VLJQLĂ€FDQW UHYLYDO LQ GRPHVWLF GHPDQG DQG PDQXIDFWXULQJ FRPSHWLWLYHQHVV As individual companies & as an association, let us play our role into changing WLPHV UHDS UHVXOWDQW EHQHĂ€WV LQ RXU EXVLQHVVHV 5HFHQWO\ WKH SRZHU 0LQLVWHU 6KUL 5. 6LQJK H[XGHG FRQĂ€GHQFH RI DFKLHYLQJ *: RI UHQHZDEOH HQHUJ\ E\ With more emphasis on Renewable energy sources like wind, hydro and solar, the need of hour is to have a grid that is highly adaptive & at the same time more secure, thereby creating potential for our members in areas of Digitalisation & Cyber security Other areas of focus are Power quality, Micro grids, Industry 4.0, Energy Storage to name a few. Talking about government’s ambitious plans of all vehicles to be electric by 2030, India’s EV aspirations are steep from where we stand today, but they have sparked remarkable interest and action in policy, industry and research areas. Samvaad...

Dear Members, India climbed 14 steps up in the World Bank’s latest ease of doing business rankings to stand at 63 among 190 countries, becoming one of the top 10 most improved countries for the third consecutive year This sharp rise in India’s ranking may help our Country attract companies who are looking for alternative investment destinations to China amid Beijing’s ongoing trade war with the US. This recent development coupled with the recent corporate tax rate reduction is an indication that efforts made by the JRYHUQPHQW KDYH KHOSHG ERRVW LQYHVWRU FRQÀGHQFH :KLOH WKH LPSURYHPHQWV are impressive and the rise in overall rankings in the last few years is noteworthy, the fact is that India is still below its competitors for global capital, particularly China, which at rank 31 is one level above France. India has also improved its ranking on global corruption index of the Transparency International and stands at 78 in the list of 180 countries, while China is at 87 and Pakistan at 117.This massive jump is a result of sustained reforms by the government, thereby improving transparency among other measures. These efforts can help further improve India’s ranking in ease of GRLQJ EXVLQHVV +RZHYHU ZH VWLOO KDYH VLJQLÀFDQW VFRSH IRU LPSURYHPHQW WR strengthen India’s position on the global stage. As industry we have a collective responsibility to make India a better place. However exports of electrical equipment is still a concern for the industry. The domestic electrical and electronics manufacturers are betting on exports for their growth prospects as the opportunities in the domestic sector have shrunk. If the industry gets its international efforts right, we expect that in 7-8 years it could become a US$ 100 billion industry. In order to boost our exports of electrical equipment, we feel that our industry has to manufacture products at par with the international standards. Research and Development (R&D) will play an important role especially when Technology upgradation is considered for strengthening the power sector. There is a need to form a proactive and collaborative R&D policy to develop innovative solutions to strengthen the Indian Power Sector through networking with research organizations, academic institutions and Industry. Infrastructure upgrades of India’s power sector are urgently needed. 0RGHUQL]LQJ WKH JULG LV WKH VHFWRU·V WRS SULRULW\ WR LPSURYH HIÀFLHQF\ WR UHGXFH WKH HQHUJ\ ORVVHV WKDW DUH GUDLQLQJ XWLOLWLHV· ÀQDQFHV 2QO\ WKHQ FDQ ZRUN EHJLQ to prepare for the future integration of both conventional and renewable power into the grid. But is the industry ready for it? While we see some efforts are being made in this direction, the industry needs to make critical changes to their operating model and culture if they want to survive and thrive in their respective businesses.
