Message from Head of School Dear IGBIS Parents and Community Members,
Ongoing discounts that will continue in 2017-18
IGBIS Re-enrolment and Fees for 2017-18 It is now time to invite your children to return to IGB International School for the 2017-2018 academic year. The Admissions Office will be sending you a link to the online re-enrolment process on our Open Apply system so that you may indicate your intention to return to IGBIS in 2017-18 and update your contact details. This is very important to us, as with many new students joining the school in August, we need accurate data for class lists, scheduling and resources and most of all, to ensure that our returning IGBIS students are given first priority.
• Discount of five percent (5%) is applicable for advance payment of the full amount of the total annual tuition fees • A sibling discount for families with two or more children attending IGBIS at the same time
IGBIS prides itself on the high quality of its teaching staff. All of our teachers have overseas qualifications and experience in teaching outside of their own countries, in addition to accredited training in the IB programmes. This quality comes at a significant cost, which we believe reflects our position as one of the premier international schools in Malaysia.
• Tuition discount of 3% after three years of full-time study at IGBIS • Tuition discount of 5% after five years of full-time study at IGBIS • Tuition discount of 7% after seven years of full time study at IGBIS
The Executive Board has discussed the tuition and other fees at length after considering parent feedback and the current economic climate. You will be pleased to hear that despite the increase in IGBIS operating costs and the fee increases announced by the majority of our competitors, it has been decided that the school fees will have minimal increases and in some cases be frozen or even reduced, for the new academic year. If you consider that students who have completed three full years at the school will also attract a 3% loyalty discount, we believe that our families will be delighted with the result.
2017-2018 Fee Schedule [http://igbis.edu.my/fee-schedule/]
It has also been decided to significantly reduce the enrolment fee in all grades to ease the financial burden experienced by families when enrolling new students. A particular focus has been to make our Fireflies (two year olds) to Kindergarten programme as competitive as possible to serve the needs of our current families and others in the local area. We will now offer a choice of a half day or full day Fireflies programme. Our Early Years programmes are excellent and form a strong foundation for future years in the school.

Loyalty discount for IGBIS Families commences in the 20172018 academic year In recognition of families who are loyal to IGBIS long term, the following discount has been offered from 2017-2018 onwards:
As you can see, the school very much appreciates the commitment and loyalty of its families and all that they have done and continue to do to make IGBIS an outstanding learning environment for students. If you have any queries or would like to know more about the discounts available, please contact our Admissions staff. In order to hold a place for the 2017-2018 academic year, please ensure that the Open Apply re-enrolment link (which will be sent to your school email address) is completed no later than May 8, 2017. I look forward to the successful completion of the current academic year and I would also like to take this opportunity to thank you for your continuing support of the IGBIS community. Yours sincerely,
Mrs. Anne Fowles Head of School

News from Elementary School The Grade 5 PYP Exhibition opened on Wednesday morning with a presentation to Grade 5 parents in the theatre, followed by a personalised tour of the Exhibition. Our students were extremely excited and although at times they were a little worried how they would manage the sharing of the information, they all spoke confidently and with enthusiasm. The parents were very proud of their own child’s efforts; however, it was rewarding to see them interacting with all students and learning more about their inquiries and findings.
This week l had the pleasure of tasting the baked treats made by our Grade 4 students. Their Unit of Inquiry was under the transdisciplinary theme of How the World Works and the central idea was “materials behave, interact, change and are manipulated to meet the needs of humans”. Over the last few weeks they have trialled different recipes to see how their ingredients interact, with the bake-off this week. I tasted cupcakes, doughnuts, muffins and brownies, lucky me! Until next time,
Mrs. Claire McLeod Elementary School Principal
IB PYP Exhibition 2017 Simon Millward Primary Years Programme Coordinator ............................................................................................... This week saw the Grade 5 students share their learning in the IB PYP Exhibition. In the final year of the PYP, students undertake an independent study that focuses on an issue that interests the students. Students are supported over the 7 weeks by, not only their regular teachers, but mentors and experts as well. This year’s IB PYP Exhibition was nestled under the Transdisciplinary theme ‘How We Express Ourselves’ with the
overarching central idea being ‘Expressing learning creatively can help communicate new understandings’. Students performed some musical pieces on their band instruments, performed group dances that they had choreographed and sang a specially written song all about the Exhibition process, to open the day’s proceedings. The Grade 5 parents and classes then listened to the student presentations. We are very proud of our students as they represented themselves and the school admirably.

News from Secondary School We said goodbye to our Grade 12 students during our Farewell Assembly this past Thursday as they begin their study leave for the IB DP examinations, which will take place in the next three weeks. The assembly focused on the talents of our Grade 12s and the impact they have made on our community. Grade 11 students contributed significantly to the assembly, to show appreciation for the guidance they have received from their older colleagues. Between the work of the Grade 11s and Mrs Davidson and Mr Spivey-Jones (the staff members who organised the assembly), we sent the Grade 12s off on a high note and wish them good luck! This was followed by our Grade 12 breakfast - the students in particular enjoyed the comfortable seating and snacks.

We welcomed Tan Sri Dr Lin on Thursday to speak to some of our senior students about his work with Harvard University and the value of a liberal arts education - a model that matches the conceptual framework of the IB Diploma. We are thankful for Tan Sri Dr Lin’s words and advice. Sincerely yours,
Michael Arcidiacono Secondary School Principal

The Grade 6 (temporary) Pizzeria Reeti Malhotra Grade 6 ............................................................................................... For our Food Design unit, Grade 6 learnt how to make (and then made) pizzas. We started off learning the basic techniques for cooking and completing simple recipes like focaccia bread and mousetraps (a fried egg on toast, topped with cheese and seasoning), to prepare for our final task: making pizzas for grades 4 and 5. We surveyed our young audience to write success criteria, which had the purpose of guiding us to making the perfect pizza. As the date neared, our two classes became more and more competitive, trying our best to win the favour of our two younger grades. One class brought in custom pizza boxes with their personal company logo, while the other decided to wow their audience with their delicious pizzas. After an exhausting rush to complete the pizza orders of about sixty people, we handed out our evaluations and received our results for what we did well and what could be improved. The winners of the Pizza Making unit between our classes is yet to be determined, but the excitement has not died down.
Library Returns and End of Year Timeline Amanda Clark Whole School Librarian ...............................................................................................
to return their books before that time and there will be many opportunities for the students to visit the library and return the books.
The next few weeks are a very busy time for families and school as we prepare for the end of the school year and get ready for the summer break. Elementary School students will continue to borrow books from the library until 19th May, with all borrowed books being due back at the latest by Friday 9th June. The library team are reminding students of what they have checked out and are doing all that we can to make sure that our learners are able to use and enjoy their library books for as long as possible. Teachers will be supporting students
Any books that are not returned at the end of the academic year will need to be paid for by parents, at replacement cost. Replacement cost includes shipping, cataloguing and processing costs paid by the school to our library supplier, in addition to the actual cost of the book. We have very few books that are late or misplaced, our reading community is very positive and responsible, so we anticipate this process going very smoothly. Thank you for all your help and support throughout the year.
