Message from the Head of School Dear IGBIS Parents and Community Members, With a holiday on Monday, we only have three more school days left this year. School will close at 12 noon on Thursday, 15th June. It’s hard to believe that that the holidays are nearly upon us. But first we will be saying thank you and farewell to some of our community who are moving to other places. The final Elementary School assembly where we will say farewell to Mrs McLeod, will be held in the theatre at 8:15am on Thursday, June 15. This will be followed by the Secondary
School assembly, which will commence at 10:30 am. There will be some special recognitions taking place in these assemblies as well as secondary school awards, so we hope that you can make it. If you and your family are staying around KL over the summer holiday, you may wish to enrol your children in the IGBIS Summer School. Please check the details on our school website or at the school reception.

News from Elementary School Our final few days for Elementary School are upon us. Staff are working on transition and handover documentation to support students moving to their next grade and teacher. Students are taking time to reflect on their learning over the year and thinking about what they could focus on next year. This time of year is also a time to start saying goodbye to students and teachers who will be leaving IGBIS. During our class parties on Wednesday afternoon, departing students will be guided to reflect on the happy times they have experienced at IGBIS and what they can look forward to when they start in their new school. Next week we will also farewell some teachers from Elementary School. Ms Kathy McKenzie will move to the Netherlands, Ms Deb King and her family will move to Switzerland, Ms Deborah Tobin will move to Thailand, Mr Mullin and his family will return
Revolting Rhymes Grade 4 students are finishing off the year with some Revolting Rhyming. They have been taking a well known story or nursery rhyme and putting their own twist on it. Here are a few of them:

Early Years Transition Tamara Snooks Early Years Coordinator .............................................................................................. Early Years (EY) 2 students were extremely excited this week to have the opportunity to play with students from Kindergarten (KG) and Grade One. The older students seemed just as excited as they eagerly waited outside the EY door for their friends to come and join them. Students were greeted by
hugs and the laughter and excitement echoed throughout the school. This week and next week the students from EY2 are having an earlier lunch and then joining the older students in the playground. The aim is to assist the EY2 students in becoming familiar with some routines they will encounter next year as a KG student. We are very proud of the way they have conducted themselves and are very thankful to the older students who have taken on a supportive role.

Jeremy wanted to kill this poor lad Because this Jeremy was clearly quite mad. He set up a scheme so evil and clever Where poor old O’Humpty would push on old lever.

When Humpty Dumpty pushed the old lever Jeremy thought that he was very clever. When Humpty flew up he fell down on a wagon Filled with tons of pillows and lots of nice dragons. Humpty left without getting hurt, Which made Jeremy’s hatred have a growth spurt. After many many years of trying in vain To make poor Humpty feel some pain. Jeremy McFinder ran up to a wall Jeremy McFinder had a great fall. Jeremy didn’t have any good friends To put him together, so he met his end. By Arielle

News from Secondary School Dear parents, We were pleased to welcome Grade 5 students in their visit to secondary week, as part of the transition process into Grade 6. Our Grade 6 students did an outstanding job, participating in fun activities with the Grade 5s and ensuring that they felt welcomed in their visit. Many teachers commented how impressive the Grade 5s were in their lessons, and I thoroughly enjoyed my interactions with them. We will be pleased to welcome them officially next year! Although it was the last full week of school this week, some great teaching and learning was occurring in the lessons. The Grade 6 presentations on the UN Sustainable Development Goals was a particular highlight, providing a glimpse of how students are developing in IGBIS, from when they do the
Exhibition in Grade 5, on the way to the Community Project Exhibition in Grade 8 and Personal Project Exhibition in Grade 10. Along this path, students develop a range of skills that they then put on display in demonstrations of their learning. I also saw wonderful presentations occurring in Individuals and Societies as well as Spanish, to name but a few. All of these examples are fun and meaningful ways to end the year - showcasing student learning. Finally, Student Council put on their final assembly on Wednesday - a great and fun way to wrap the last full week! Sincerely yours,

Transitions Phil Clark Middle Years Programme Coordinator .............................................................................................. As we head towards the end of this academic year, we have already started transitioning into the start of next year. On Tuesday we met together with parents of Grade 5 students to discuss how we support their children as they make the move from elementary school to secondary school, and as they transition from the end of the IB Primary Years Programme 02 into the start of the IB Middle Years Programme. On Wednesday, the Grade 5 students joined us in Secondary School for a full day of transition activities. They started the day taking part in a series of ice-breaker activities with the current Grade 6 students, before setting off for a series of lessons in drama, science and design. They joined the Grade 6 students
again for lunch before taking part in a joint problem-solving activity. At the end of the day, the Grade 5 students shared some of the highlights of their day and some questions that they had. The feedback was very positive and we look forward to welcoming the Grade 5 students into Grade 6 in August. Next week, we will begin transition activities with Grade 7 and Grade 9 students as we begin thinking about their upcoming Grade 8 Community Project and Grade 10 Personal Project. We had our final Secondary School Student Council Assembly on Wednesday morning, where they entertained us with a “year in review� quiz. It was a fun way to look back over the highlights of the year and another great example of student leadership in our school. Secondary Student Council regularly takes a lead in organising events during the year. We thank them for their commitment and enthusiasm as they help maintain and enhance a strong sense of community at IGBIS. We also acknowledged our Student Research Team who have been creating a student wellness room, and the student-led Editorial Board who have been creating and preparing the yearbook. We look forward with anticipation to receiving our yearbooks next week and thank the Editorial Board, and Adi from our marketing team, for the many hours of work that they have committed to this project.

IGBIS Instrumental Music Academy

This week the IGBIS Instrumental Music Academy End of Semester 2 Concerts were held in the Drama Studio. The students of piano, voice, drums and strings performed to celebrate their continuing development as young musicians. For some of the performers this was their very first concert and
stop talking about their performances and those of their friends. Music is now an important part of each child’s life, in and out of school. The IGBIS Music Academy Program is extremely well organized, and Program staff are dedicated, professional and inspire the kids to venture outside of their comfort zone and to do their best. Consequently, our children’s confidence has improved beyond the music room and has had a truly positive effect on their broader academic work and social life. Both kids love it, and are eager to continue learning.” -Ilya Sverdlov and Ekaterina Vinnik I hope everyone has a peaceful and restful vacation, whatever you do.

Finally, a huge thank you to our tutors Ms Iko, Ms Irma, Ms Puisim, and Mr Adil for their commitment and dedication to the programme. I regrettably farewell Mr Andy, our drum and contemporary piano tutor, as he leaves IGB to take up a new position in Singapore with his family. Summer School IGBIS is excited to offer a limited Summer School programme during the 2017 summer break. The week-long courses will run from 24-28 July, from 8:30am until 12:30pm. The cost of each course is RM800. Vacancies still exist in the following courses: Robotics - Want to build a robot that plays soccer? Or a robot that can sort balls according to colour? Using Lego EV3 robotic kits, students will explore what robots are, how to create them and how to programme them. The week will be made up of robotic challenges and games, and will include lots of time to explore and play with the robots and the software. Open to Grade 4 to Grade 10, 8:30pm-12:30pm
Swimming - Sunarize brings Chui Lan Kwan, Malaysian 100m freestyle and 100m backstroke record holder, and his team of instructors for this exciting course, and enjoy cameo appearances by Malaysian Olympic swimmer Daniel Bego. The Junior Programme will highlight learning to swim, fun water games, stroke correction for smooth swim strokes and water safety. The Senior programme will introduce students to water safety, competitive swimming and introduce students to water safety sports. Soccer - Sunarize is offering two soccer clinics to students that will focus on fitness, ball mastering, skills introduction and correction, fun and tactical soccer games, and short, friendly games. As well as the team of Sunarize Soccer Academy coaches, guest FIFA certified elite coaches will include former National Youth Development Program Director Aminuddin Hussin (one-day appearance), Coach Andy and Coach FAFA.
