Message from Head of School Dear IGBIS Parents and Community Members, Last week we held a special assembly for our Grade 12 students as it was their last day of attending classes at school…..ever! Now they are in the midst of their IB Diploma examinations. We know that our teachers have prepared them well and we wish them the very best in their examinations. We recently held a meeting of the IGBIS Board of Governors. One of their key roles is to ensure the long term sustainability, quality and annual performance of the school. In a future newsletter we will share the bio data of each member. This esteemed group includes: Tan Sri Abu Talib bin Othman (Chairman) Tan Sri Dato’ Dr Lin See Yan Dato’ Seri Robert Tan Dato’ Dr Thuraisingham Seng Yong Mr Lister Hannah Mrs Anne Fowles (Secretary) Congratulations Grade 5 for completing your PYP Exhibition to such a high standard and sharing this with us last week. It is Next week we will see the MYP Personal Projects that the Grade 10 students have been working on throughout the year. Parents, please check your school email account for a letter from Admissions about Re-enrolment. If you have not received the letter, please contact Admissions. News from Elementary School Class Placement for 2017/18 It is now time to consider placement of students for the next school year. In Elementary School staff are asked to consider the following criteria when placing students to ensure where possible there is an even distribution of: · age · gender · nationality · academic/developmental ability · ESOL level/native English speakers. · friendship groups Class teachers consult single subject teachers before sharing their recommendations with the Principal. This is a lengthy process, designed to consider all aspects of student placement and wellbeing. Class placement and the names of teachers will be available before school starts in August.
What’s coming up? · Wednesday 10th May is a holiday for students; however, all staff will be working on our CIS/NEASC Accreditation documentation. ·
Saturday 13th May is our Student Led Conference morning.

Class Parties End of year class parties across the school have been scheduled for Wednesday 14th June during periods 7 and 8. As it is Ramadan, no food or drink can be consumed at these parties.

News from Secondary School Dear parents,
start with their exams and the G10 and G11 exams are around the corner - in just a few weeks time. With the end of year of your son/daughter’s achievement over the course of the year. However, you do not need to wait until June to check on your child’s progress - you can access their current grades immediately, through Managebac. This week is an opportune time to sit down with your child and go through Managebac to see how things are going,
where they are succeeding and where they can improve. They will then have the remaining six weeks to adjust their approach. This conversation can continue on May 13th, during our Student-Led Conferences, where you will have a more in-depth look at the skills your son/daughter has been developing this year. As we fast approach the end of the year you will see the End Of Semester Concerts advertisement in each newsletter. Please keep the dates free and come along and celebrate the progress of the students who participate in the Music Academy programmes.

This semester the change of location provides a more intimate environment. In helping your child or children prepare for their performances please encourage them to practice regularly. For the young musicians, short 10 - 15 minute practice sessions are adequate. Have them perform for you or the family to help
Parents of students who are enrolled in the Music Academy should have received an email inviting them to the concerts at which their child or children are performing. If you have not received the email please contact me at jon.suffolk@igbis. edu.my.

on Level 6 to share examples of work from all MYP subject areas from their MYP portfolios.
A reminder that on the morning of Saturday 13 May we will be hosting our third annual IGBIS Student Led Conferences (SLCs). Please check your email for the time that your child’s conference has been scheduled. All grade 6-10 students are expected to attend school on that morning and we invite parents, guardians and other family members to join them. Please allow 1.5 hours so you can take full advantage of the SLC experience.
Next week our Grade 10 students will be creating their MYP
The purpose of our Middle Years Programme (MYP) SLCs is for grades 6-10 students to lead a one-hour conference, where they sit together with their family and show how they have demonstrated their learning and the attributes of the IB
SLCs will begin with the students teaching their families something that they have learnt in one of their MYP subjects. Students will then take their family to the Multi-Purpose Room

afternoon in the Secondary School library. The students will also be showcasing their Personal Projects during SLCs on Saturday morning, so please take some time to visit the library. The Personal Project is an important culminating self-directed project which connects student personal interests with school learning in the MYP. The Personal Project is formally assessed and prepares students for the Extended Essay in the IB Diploma Programme. By the end of the SLCs families should have a clearer understanding about what MYP students have been learning this year, and how their own child has grown as a learner. Families should also gain a deeper understanding about how students are learning and being assessed in the IB Middle Years Programme.

Book donations for Achiever’s Academy Sumire Uenishi Grade 11 ............................................................................................... “Thank you so much for the books. I love some of the novels and am looking forward to reading them. Please help convey our most heartfelt thanks to all donors of the books.” - A message from a volunteer teacher at Achiever’s Academy I organised a book donation for our partner refugee school, Achiever’s Academy. Overall, 445 books were collected: 115 novels, 256 children’s storybooks, and 75 educational books. Initially, my goal was to collect 300 books, so this result was well beyond my expectations. I am impressed by a number of books donated by the IGBIS community and greatly achievement can change the quality of education at the refugee school. In addition, I am open-minded. I would like to say thank you to my teachers for assisting me to make my project successful. I could not have done this project without support from so many people. Again, thank you all for making this project meaningful.

The last time that we held an Open Day on a school day it was a big success with many visitors eager to see what ‘life at IGBIS’ is really like. With Business Management, Economics, English A and B and Mathematics complete (apart from HL Mathematics Paper 3), next week brings Chinese A and B, Mandarin Ab Initio, Japanese A, Malay A, History, Chemistry, Design Technology and Psychology. Hopefully this Friday afternoon of no exams gave some time for rest, recuperation and reward for all the hard work that has been happening. KLISS Athletics Competition The weather was perfect for the rescheduled KLISS Athletics Competition, an event that had been rained out six weeks ago. An enthusiastic crowd of around 300 elementary students from grades 2 to 5 participated in an exciting morning of events that showcased talented athletes from eight international schools throughout Kuala Lumpur. IGBIS students showed great courage and sportsmanship, giving everything they had in their track
