Message from the Head of School Dear IGBIS Parents and Community Members, Welcome back to a new school year at IGB International School. We are starting the year by congratulating the Class of 2017 and all of the IGBIS teachers for our second year of outstanding IB Diploma Results. IGBIS students achieved average points of 34, which was well above the worldwide average of 29 out of 45, with 20% of students achieving 40 points or above. The top score of 43 was achieved by just 1% of the IB Diploma graduates worldwide. We welcomed a number of new teachers to the school over the last month and we are delighted to have Mr Simon Millward returning as the new Elementary Principal. All of the new and returning teachers are now settled in and eager to commence the school year. The Student Reception and Orientation Day on Wednesday had the hallways and theatre buzzing as people reconnected with each other and just enjoyed being back at IGBIS again. Over 70

new students have joined the school and our returning students (especially the student ambassadors) have done a great job of helping them to feel at home. Students, parents and staff have appreciated the new look ‘Café’ which has been taken over by the school caterer, ‘Cezars Kitchen’ with their range of freshly cooked food. A reminder of a few upcoming events: Thursday August 24:

Welcome Coffee for New and Returning Parents

Looking forward to another wonderful year ahead.

Mrs. Anne Fowles Head of School

News from Elementary School Welcome to another year at IGB International School. We are eager to Ignite Minds and Impact Lives. The school is a different place when it is buzzing with children. The teachers and I have been back for some time preparing for the new academic year. New teaching teams have been collaborating together and meeting with our new PYP Coordinator Ms. Aga. They have been experimenting with the learning environment to stimulate and inspire the students on their return. There comes a time when teachers are saying ‘enough of the meetings and the preparation, we want the children back!’ On Wednesday 9th August there was a ‘soft’ opening of the school year with our Reception and Orientation day. Returning students were talking at a rapid rate to their friends about what they had been doing in the holiday and the new students were easing their way into life as an IGBIS student. However, bringing them all together on Thursday 10th August was wonderful. Building

a community takes time and there will be ups and downs, but seeing and hearing about returning students caring, guiding and helping new students is a positive start. I look forward to seeing this positivity grow as our students develop and shape our learning community. Talking about learning communities, this year Ms. Aga will be trying to ‘Ignite your Minds’ to ‘Impact your Lives’ by starting an IGBIS Parent University course. Watch this space for further details as to how you can deepen your understanding of the Primary Years Programme. Once again welcome and I look forward to meeting more of you in the coming weeks.

Mr. Simon Millward Elementary School Principal

News from Secondary School Dear Parents, It was wonderful to welcome back our returning students and meet our new students this week. Our student ambassadors did a fantastic job of making the new students feel welcome and helping them to begin to familiarise themselves with the school. I am very thankful to Ernest and the whole team for helping to kick the year off in such a positive way. Lots of information will be forthcoming in the next few weeks as the school year gets underway. As we have done in past years, to stay informed we encourage parents to check their school emails and also the parent Splash page. The Splash page has links to the calendar of upcoming events, the homeroom notices, and the cashless systems (for online top up your children’s ePurse).

Next week, Ms Chotard will be putting on a Service Fair, where secondary students have the opportunity to meet with several organisations that we partner with to provide service opportunities for our community. Also, students will be looking at the extracurricular activities and athletics offerings for the first season. On the horizon will be our New Parents Coffee on August 24th and Meet the Teacher on August 29th. Sincerely yours,

Michael Arcidiacono Secondary School Principal

Admissions and Marketing News We are all excited to welcome over 70 new students to our school this semester. Wednesday’s Reception and Orientation sessions were a joy to behold - lots of smiles as old and new friends shared stories about their holidays and got to know their new teachers and programmes.

We look forward to welcoming all new parents on Thursday 24th August (New Parents Coffee) here at school from 8.00am to 9.30am in the Level 6 Multi-purpose room. Please join us for refreshments and some sharing of information as we prepare for an exciting new year.

My thanks to the staff who who worked hard to make everyone feel welcome and to the Student Ambassadors for being so willing to give of their time to ensure that everyone felt the warmth of an IGIS welcome!

OPEN DAY - our first Open Day for the year will be held on Friday 15th September (from 9.00am to 10.00am) and we would like your assistance in letting as many friends and colleagues as possible know of the event as we would like to see as many people as possible attend.

Please let us know if there is anything we can do to improve our Admissions process because we want to make sure that we are taking into account all feedback in the spirit of continuous improvement.
