Message from Head of School Dear IGBIS Parents and Community Members, Wow! The IGBIS International Day on March 10th was definitely our best one yet! It was fantastic to see so many people dressed for the occasion representing their nationality and walking with their flag in the parade. The country stalls had lots of interesting information, activities and tasty food to try. The performances gave us a further insight into the cultures in our community and were lots of fun as well. Thanks are extended to our Community Liaison Coordinator; Julie Arcidiacono and her International Day Team, in particular Wayne Demnar, Clare Demnar, Yuri Kim, Looi Mun Chiew and all of the parents, teachers and students who were involved in stalls, activities and performances. Not forgetting all of the rest of the community for coming to support the day. We are already starting to think about what we might do next year and will continue this discussion at the next PVO meeting on 19 April.
This week the school has been hosting the International Schools Theatre Arts (ISTA) Middle School conference with the theme ‘Something in the Air’. Schools from Hong Kong and around Malaysia have travelled to take part in the conference, to learn and collaborate with other teachers and students. Highlights have been the visiting artists who have been sharing their creative talents and skills with the students and providing professional development to teachers. Some of the artists will stay on to work with IGBIS theatre students on Monday 19 March. (Have a wonderful weekend ahead.

News from Secondary School Dear parents, This has been an exciting week in Secondary with the ISTA festival occurring - there is a real buzz coming from the Performing Arts section of the school as 80 students from grades 5 to 8 take part in activities and workshops, challenging themselves to develop new skills, take risks, and meet new friends. I am very much looking forward to the final performances that occur this Saturday. The hosting of ISTA marks several firsts for IGBIS as a school. The first "first'" was to host internationally renowned workshops at our school - ISTA is recognised worldwide for excellence in the arts and these workshops are held at top schools around the globe. The second "first" has been for the IGBIS community to host students from other schools in their homes. "Homestay" is one way that these conferences can take place, while maintaining more reasonable costs than putting large groups of students up in hotels. The participation of our parents and families in this element of the ISTA workshops has been fantastic and a real tribute to all members of our community for the way they have opened their doors and homes to others.
Looking forward, activities in Season 2 end next week. There will then be a week of sign ups for activities in Season 3, which will begin the week after the school mid-term break in the beginning of April. Sincerely yours,
Michael Arcidiacono Secondary School Principal
News from Elementary School An important part of being an IB school is the sense of community and working together for the betterment of students. On Tuesday 13th March we hosted some guests (teachers and students, PYP and MYP) from At-Tamimi International Islamic School. They spent time in the library learning about how we organise our books and resources. They observed library lessons being taught by Ms. Amanda and they talked with Mr. Derry to learn about how we use technology in our programmes.
Finally on Friday 16th March, we hosted the KLISS Elementary Track and Field meet. Approximately 350 students came to IGBIS to compete against each other in track and field events. Our students performed to the best of their ability and once again learned a lot about themselves and how to compete as part of a team.

Tuesday also saw the Grade 2 students have their field trip to The Little Gym at Kota Damansara. This linked very well to their unit of inquiry, How the World Works, as they have been inquiring into forces at work in the world. Some of our Grade 5 students have been involved in the ISTA festival. They have been hosting students from other schools and taking part in performing arts learning engagements, as well as making many new friends. These opportunities are great for our students to bring balance to their lives and learn more about music and drama.

.................................................................................................................... Hello, we are Team PYPX! As of March 12th, we have begun our PYP Exhibition Journey in Grade 5. Children have been busy brainstorming ideas for problems that need solving in our global and local community. We spent this week connecting with the mentors who will support us together with our homeroom teachers, as well as looking at the UN Sustainable Development Global Goals that we will work towards meeting through our Action. From March 12th to April 26th, Grade 5 students will be immersed in a process of self-discovery, self-efficacy, and extension of their learning and skills to be able to take responsible societal Action that will have direct impact on themselves and their families, local communities and the world. We encourage Grade 5 parents and all members of IGBIS community to offer their expertise to expand the children's scope of inquiry. If you are interested in any of the issues listed below, or work in a profession linked to those - we would love to welcome you to our classroom as a guest speaker or organize a Skype call in order for our students to interview you and learn from you. We would also be keen to visit your workplace or places that you think may be worth our interest as they connect to or support the Action towards meeting the Global Goals.

.................................................................................................................... As part of our transdisciplinary theme, "How the World Works", students in Grade 2 have been exploring forces all around us. We have been inquiring into how forces work, how forces affect movement, and how forces are used in our daily lives. To finish off our inquiry we headed out of school for an afternoon at The Little Gym in Kota Damansara. We focused on how forces affect the way we move in a gymnastics setting and this experience connected very well to our current PE activities. We all had a fun and energetic time at The Little Gym!
