Message from Head of School Dear IGBIS Parents and Community Members, Welcome back to a new school year at IGB International School. We are starting the year by congratulating the Class of 2018 and all of the IGBIS teachers for our third year of outstanding IB Diploma Results. IGBIS students achieved an average score of 34 points out of 45, well above the worldwide average of 29, with 20% of students achieving 40 points or above. We welcomed a number of new teachers to the school over the last month. They are now settled in and eager to commence the school year. The Student Reception and Orientation Day on Monday had the hallways and theatre buzzing as people reconnected with each other and just enjoyed being back at IGBIS again. Over 70 new

students have joined the school and our returning students (especially the student ambassadors) have done a great job of helping them to feel at home. A reminder of a few upcoming events: • Friday August 17: Welcome Coffee for New and Returning Parents • Monday August 20: Meet the Teacher Evening (we moved forward as a number of families may be travelling the evening of August 21) • Wednesday September 14: Malaysia Day Assembly Looking forward to another wonderful year ahead.

News from Elementary School There is much preparation that happens before the start of any academic year. Many of the new staff that have joined our school community arrived in June or July. They had the opportunity to acquaint themselves with the school and plan and prepare for the student arrival. Finally this week teachers got a glimpse of the new students and the returning students during our orientation morning. There was a positive vibe around the school and a genuine excitement for Tuesday’s first day of the 2018/19 academic year. Throughout the week students have been setting up their classrooms, getting involved in team building exercises and having the opportunity to find out more about each other. There have been a lot of smiles and laughter around the building and this is a great sign. In the photos you can see Grade 3 students setting up their student directed learning time, Grade 4 setting up their Seesaw portfolios and team building, and the Grade 5 students engaged in some maths activities. We are looking forward to building on the teaching and learning practices we have been engaged in over the last few years and hope that we can continue to grow our IGB International School community and family. Our first event to develop our community bond is happening on Friday 17th August 8.00 - 9.30. This is the New Parents Coffee event and we hope to see as many of you there as possible. Dates for your diaries • Friday 17th August: New Parents Coffee Morning • Monday 20th August: ES Back to School evening: 5.00pm 6.45pm • Wednesday 22nd August: No school Hari Raya Qurban holiday

News from Secondary School Dear Parents, On behalf of the secondary staff we are very excited to welcome all returning and new students back to school. We had a great first week, as students met their new teachers, connected with each other, and settled into the new block timetable and rotating schedule. There were a few changes to adjust to, and students and staff handled the changes very smoothly. This week we hosted camps meetings for parents and students. This year our secondary camps will be held much earlier than previous years, with grades 10 and 11 heading to Belum from September 3-7, and grades 8 and 9 (going to Merapoh, Taman Negara) and grades 6 and 7 (going to Ipoh) from September 4-7. Fuze Ecoteers (the service provider for the camps) shared presentations with parents, staff and students and led students in a variety of activities to get them ready for the outdoor adventure. We are looking forward to seeing new parents at the coffee scheduled for this Friday. Also for new parents, there will be a workshop on Assessment in the MYP, led by Mr Harding, on August 28. This session will also be open for parents of Grade 6 students, who wish to learn more about how their child will be assessed this year. Finally, we also look forward to seeing all parents at Back to School Night on August 20, at 5:30pm. At 4:30pm on that same date, Mr Harding will be meeting with Grade 10 students and parents about e-assessments for this year. Best regards,

Michael Arcidiacono Elementary School Principal
