Message from Head of School Dear IGBIS Parents and Community Members, On Monday and Tuesday this week, while students were on break, IGBIS teachers took part in a series of workshops delivered by Tania Lattanzio of ‘Innovative Global Education’. The workshops centred on provoking ideas about inquiry, conceptual inquiry in teaching and learning, and the role of student questions, voice and choice. The workshops acted as a catalyst for each grade level and department to review their units of work based on best practice and to further develop the school-wide approaches to learning overview. Professional development such as this is important for our school to continue as one of the leading IB schools in this region. The IGBIS community was excited to host the KL International School Sports (KLISS) Swim Meet for Secondary School students on Friday. Teams from BSKL, Nexus, ISP, Help, Tenby and Taylor’s, as well as our own swim team, competed with enthusiasm and skill!

News from Elementary School Our Elementary Principal, Simon Millward, has been out of school all week on an IB school visit. But that doesn’t mean that things have been quiet in the Elementary School in his absence. With 3 weeks to the Holiday Break, we are just gaining momentum. Walking around the homerooms and learning lounges you are immediately engaged in reflection of the final weeks of inquiry into our second units. In order to show their conceptual understandings, knowledge, skills, attitudes and taking Action students have developed multiple scenarios, designs and ways of sharing their new learning. Grade 1 have engaged in telling their stories of friendship and relationships through various media. The Grade 2 learning lounge is a town with a bakery, supermarket, cinema, doctor’s surgery, as well as gym and spa - all independently designed and developed by the learners and showing their understanding that numbers are everywhere in our communities and we use them in multiple ways. Grade 3 have been self directing their choices regarding their final assessment and we can see children creating 3D models, information panels, green screen videos, documentaries and many more to raise our awareness of ecology, conservation and environmental sustainability. Grade 4 have been developing different digital ways of note taking and summarising their new learning - they’ve developed and directed animations and timelapse videos to share their inquiries into the balance and the imbalance of the ecosystems. Grade 5 have looked at their use of energy and made inquiries into their choices and usage of energy as well as their impact on our planet. All this from a casual walk through levels 3 and 5 - a significant learning experience for anyone stopping by.

Elementary PE News Sean Lovesey Head of PE ............................................................. As we near the halfway point of the academic year it is time to reflect on the amazing success of the students in the school. Elementary students have particularly stood out this term. Their amazing ability to be thinkers and inquirers in every lesson is fantastic. Grades 1, 2 and 3 have shown their ability to problem solve and think from different perspectives. Grades 4 and 5 have been focusing on athletics. This week students in Grade 4 made and took aim at their own targets. Teams had to design a target for students to knock down using a range of different throwing techniques. Students showed a fantastic understanding of all the different techniques they had been learning in class. Overall we have had a successful term. All students have taken part in a wide range of activities, with fun and learning had by all.

Dear Parents, Now is a good time to review the sickness policy so we can keep the school community healthy and keep students fit for actionpacked and busy days here at IGBIS. A child who is sick will not be able to perform well in school and is likely to spread the illness to other children and staff. Please make arrangements for childcare ahead of time so you will not be caught without a place for your child to stay if he or she is ill.

News from Secondary School As we move past the midpoint of November and get close to the upcoming holidays in December, it is an important time for students (and parents) to do some careful planning around their workload for the last four weeks of school before the holidays. Inevitably, there will be a higher number of assessments during these weeks, as the holidays are also close to the end of our first semester (the actual end date is 21 January). As a secondary school, we are looking carefully at the dates and will be doing what we can to ensure that students are not overloaded.

At home, it is important that students carefully construct their calendar for the next four weeks, and think about the nature of assessments coming up. Secondary Student Council Winter Social Dance Feeling bogged down with all the upcoming assessments? Stressed out that the Christmas holidays are still so far away? Calling all students from grades 6 to 12! Student Council is hosting a Winter Social Dance on November 24th from 6:00pm to 8:30pm in the Level 3 Drama room. We’ve got great music, crazy lighting,

pizza and drinks. Prices are RM 10 to enter, or RM 15 including 2 slices of pizza and a canned drink. Hope to see you there!

Where is Grace? Do we ever see Grace? The time is fast approaching for the community to come and find out about the mysterious Grace in the Senior School Production for 2017. Rehearsals will really heat up over the coming two weeks as we approach the final performances. The cast are coming together on the next two Saturdays for extended rehearsals and the theatre will be transformed into a circus in which the action takes place. “DO WE EVER SEE GRACE?
